JJ stretched, sighed, and slid her hands over her expanding belly, feeling her baby kick her ribs. "Ugh, you're making mama uncomfortable, little one."
Reid sympathetically smiled as he studied a file. "Is the baby kicking your ribs again?"
JJ narrowed her eyes at her fiancé, "Yeah, after a kidney shot for variety. Gotta run to the bathroom." Her footsteps lightly slapped the floor as she walked away from the table.
"So," Emily turned to Reid. "How is JJ doing?" She asked as worry clouded her dark eyes.
"She's ready for the baby. I don't blame her," Spencer tapped his pen against the round table where they worked. "Her center of gravity's off, and she's always contending with swollen ankles, heartburn, and insomnia. I understand why some people say it's fortunate that females have offspring for the good of the species. I couldn't last a day with all her physical challenges.
Emily patted his arm. "Hey, at least you get it. You'd be surprised how many guys don't and make their partner's life hell while pregnant."
"My mom, in her more lucid periods, always told me to treat my significant other like I'd want someone to treat me."
"I think your mom's right," Emily observed as she stood and stretched. "Oh," She groaned as her back cracked, "I need more coffee."
When JJ returned, she sat down beside Spencer and shook her head. "I'm so tired of this. I want it to be over already."
"I know," Spencer said. "I can see the exhaustion in your eyes. You try to hide it, but it's there. I wish I could do more for you."
"I wish you could carry the kid for me," JJ quipped.
"That would be hilarious to see," Emily smirked as she returned with a cup of hot steaming coffee that smelled like ambrosia to JJ. "Dr. Spencer Reid, pregnant with a baby genius. I'd pay good money to see it."
Spencer tossed a scrap of a candy bar wrapper at Emily's head. "Not funny or possible," he shot back. "Anyway, there's no guarantee the baby will have above-average intelligence."
Emily smirked and winked at JJ, "Hm, considering how much you love Halloween, maybe the baby will inherit some supernatural abilities from all the spooky content you've soaked up over the years."
Reid chuckled, "As long as it doesn't start levitating objects, we'll be fine.
"Time out, you two," JJ said. "We've got work to do," she reminded them just as Garcia called.

JJ sat on Spencer's leather sofa. The slick, brown material made her feel content for reasons she didn't understand but didn't question.
"Hey," JJ entered with a cup of steaming liquid that JJ sniffed eagerly. "I love the smell of hot chocolate. Thank you."
"It's just as the lady requested: dark chocolate with some cinnamon." He handed it to her with a bow and a flourish.
JJ sipped it and then narrowed her eyes as Spencer watched her with a questioning smile that made his eyes crinkle. "What?"
"I think it's fascinating that you like dark chocolate now."
JJ chuckled and reached over to tousle his golden-brown locks. "I think it's just a pregnancy thing, and I'll go back to hating it after the baby's born."
"I hope so because it's a bit weird to see you sipping it with cinnamon, no less," Spencer shuddered. "I like dark chocolate but with sea salt. Cinnamon is just – wrong."
"Well, it's probably too late for this, but I couldn't say no," JJ said as she took another sip from her favorite red ceramic mug.
"Dr Thompson did say to pay attention to your cravings no matter how inconvenient."
"True." JJ blew out a long breath and turned her attention to Spencer. She stared at him for so long, he said. "What?"
"I was just thinking how lucky I am to have you with me, Spencer Reid." She leaned over and kissed him until he pulled back with a slight pop. "Wow, that was incredible."
JJ reached for his hand as she breathed in the lingering scent of the hot chocolate and the faint smell of Spencer's aftershave. She sipped the bitter liquid and held it out to Spencer. "You sure you don't want to share."
"No," he held a hand as if warding off a vampire attack. "It's yours."
"Okay, but I think you're missing out."
Spencer wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "You need rest, my beautiful Jennifer. Want to go to bed?"
"After I have a long hot shower. I wish I could soak in the tub with some of the lavender bath salts you gave me for my last birthday, but getting into and out of the tub will have to wait until after the baby comes."
Spencer stood up and held out his hand. "Just don't stay in there too long."
"You worry too much, and I love it," JJ said, kissing him.
Spencer laid a hand on her belly. "I love you both more than I can say, so I worry."
"We both adore you, Spence."
