*Gang Orca POV*
Kugo was only briefly surprised when someone barged into his office.
The person quickly entered and closed the door before stomping over to his desk as he set his papers to the side for a moment to look at them. His guest, a woman quite a bit younger than himself, stood before him with a tight frown and her shoulders slouched as her hands were firmly shoved into her pockets. She wasn't in a great mood and she looked like she had something to say too so Kugo gestured to an open seat that she flopped into.
Miruko didn't often visit him, at his own aquarium no less, so the man patiently waited to see if she'd start them off. He'd heard bits and pieces of what she'd gotten into recently, or rather what she'd been forced into, and it clearly had her wound up tighter than a spring. In fact, she was still sporting bandages and she really should have been on bed rest if not for her own stubborn streak.
He was certain that there were other people she could talk to but realistically Miruko probably just wanted someone to vent to who wouldn't give her any lip about her way of handling things. They sat tensely for a moment before Kugo decided that he would have to get the conversation going.
"So where's this new sister of yours?" he began and he could feel her annoyed gaze as he paid attention to his papers but soon enough she groaned and slumped back into the seat.
"How the hell should I know?" the rabbit woman grumbled while kicking out her legs, "and I think you mean random ass charge that was thrown at me cause everyone else decided it." Kugo could hear the irritation in her voice and he waited for her to resume as she began tapping a foot. "Plus, she's 18," Miruko tacked on flippantly, "she can do what the fuck she wants as long as it doesn't bite me in the ass."
It was clear to Kugo that despite Miruko taking the situation in stride, albeit in her own way, she was more frustrated with it than she let on. He could think of a few reasons why they would push this on the rabbit hero but he couldn't form a full picture without understanding what happened between her and her new household member. From what he'd gathered just tuning into what the parties involved had to say it appeared that no one had played witness to what Miruko had to go through.
"Figured as much," the whale man replied while drawing a side eye towards the heroine who was shifting uncomfortably in place. "I guess it was also because you'll be off active duty for an undetermined amount of time?" he mentioned, seeing Miruko gingerly massage certain parts of her limbs, and the white haired woman scowled deeply.
"Thank my little freak show for that," she grimaced after brushing over what must have been a still tender spot, "I couldn't count the number of broken bones and scars I got from that one tussle." Miruko took a moment to scowl but she winced in pain and drew a hand to her head. "I've even got a goddamn plate in my head now cause of her," the heroine growled and he worried for a brief second but she managed to steady herself. "Cracked my skull with her bare hands," she added, waving him off to let him know she'd be fine, but her voice went low in annoyance. "Miracle that I made it they said."
Kugo had known she'd been hurt significantly but he had no clue how close it had been. To think she'd been right on the edge, in a close combat physical fight no less, really made him question just why they'd chosen her to look after her recent enemy that hurt her so badly. There had to be something else they were hoping from this.
"Any other reasons they picked you?" he posed but Miruko shrugged.
"I guess she kinda looks like me though," she considered. "Skins a lil on the tan or darker side and her hair's as white as mine," she described briefly, "green eyes though." The rabbit hero mulled it over for a moment longer. "Maybe they want me to deal with her anger issues or something but that doesn't make any sense if you ask me," she considered but didn't appear convinced. "I guess I'm the only one she has any connection to though."
"Any progress then?" he tried since she had more she likely wanted to discuss and the woman huffed.
"I've only known her for like a month now and she's mostly quiet," Miruko explained. "Does the housework by her own choice, eats the food I bring, goes out and comes back," she listed with a sigh, "she's fine I guess."
"I highly doubt that," he assured but the heroine rolled her eyes.
"Best I got," she grumbled, "if they wanted someone to sit down and have a heart to heart with her then they should have picked someone else."
"I guess they're still investigating too?" he shifted slightly.
"She probably has a name already but she won't say it," the heroine informed, "blood and stuff was a no go or something since the doctor said her quirk probably reworked her entire body at some point even if we have no clue what her quirk does." The other hero readjusted her position so she was half laying in the seat before going on. "I wrote her down as 'Usagiyama Haru' and she didn't have an issue with it so that's that," she revealed which surprised Kugo.
The whale man didn't think that Miruko would go on to name the girl herself, or even more so give her own family name to her, and he briefly mused if this might turn into a welcome change for both sides. No one could deny that Miruko could tough anything out on her own but from his perspective he saw the rabbit woman as someone with very few connections. There were people she got along with, even some she called friends, but in reality they were little more than acquaintances that she had a positive relationship with. His train of thought was put on hold however as the rabbit woman scratched her head and grunted.
"Uhh...she likes bread I guess cause it's the first thing she eats when I bring food home and she regularly goes to this bakery nearby now," she rambled slightly. "I'm not putting her in school cause she seems smart enough and I don't think she's gonna play well with others," Miruko listed out and Kugo felt his mouth twitch up a bit, "fighting is the last thing she should be doing."
"Any guesses on her quirk then?" he coughed, recomposing himself, but the heroine's expression quickly shifted downwards.
"It's got something to do with that foul ass temper of hers making her invincible or some shit," she snorted, "even if she still gets hurt like normal." There was an ambivalent look that crossed Miruko's face, as if she didn't know how to feel about that point, but her thoughts clearly turned sour soon after. "Those staff from the place we found her from were all real damn dramatic about her," she said, her eyes narrowing in mild anger, and Kugo studied the discontent look on her face.
"What did they say?" the whale man asked as he set his papers aside and Miruko glanced over to him and crossed her arms to contemplate.
"A bunch of weird and confusing shit," she claimed suddenly, appearing to give up on trying to remember what was exactly said. "She's scary as fuck, I'll give her that, but that's all there is to her," the white haired heroine noted with a point of her finger but her eyes trailed away in thought.
"More on your mind now?" he had to urge and Miruko nodded with a hum.
"Well I've been on this extended vacation, right?" she began. "All there really is to do is think about my pet monster, but I can't figure out a thing she wants," the heroine stated, "she doesn't seem to have particular interests and though she's good at throwing hands she didn't seem like a fighting junkie." Miruko was pondering more to herself at the moment yet it didn't stop her. "In fact I'd guess she doesn't like it."
Kugo remained silent, digesting the information, all while considering if Miruko even knew how she felt about her charge. She was certainly frustrated and tentative with the addition of this 'Haru' into her life but she also took a certain level of consideration towards the girl. He doubted it had anything to do with pity, or even respect, but something was compelling the heroine to care for this sudden companion of hers.
"When she gets worked up though then it's a different story," his junior continued. "She's fuckin' vicious at that point and damn creepy," she now complained with a serious edge subtly lacing her tone. "Ya know, I busted her goddamn ribs to the point where they were probably stabbing her lungs and she asks me, 'Is it that fucking fun?' before trying to do the same shit back to me," Miruko growled while recounting the memory and a twitch caused her ears to flicker. "I'm surprised she's still functioning in any sort of way."
Kugo decided it was best not to dig into the nitty gritty of how the fight went down, especially when Miruko was still injured, so he chose to keep them around where they were at.
"Were there any plans regarding her future?" he opted next but the rabbit woman went back to her noncommittal shrugs.
"I guess there are talks but I told them there'd probably be no dice," she answered dismissively just before her lips pressed into a hard line. "None of them saw or felt what I did," she mumbled, her attention once more drifting away as she spoke. "When we first started going at it she was definitely weaker than me but a minute later and then she's noticeably stronger than me," the heroine stated almost in amazement yet a chuckle of resignation left her soon after. "Freaked me out real good and my instincts told me to not let her fight anyone else."
The older man listened intently as Miruko said her piece. He was surprised by how much had been on her mind as well as the amount of insight she had about someone she'd known for only a month. She clearly had been paying much more attention than she let on or her meeting with that girl had just been that much of a life changing event.
"It'll sound crazy but lets say she fought All Might," she posed out of nowhere. "I can see her outdoing him if you give her the time," she near praised but the statement instead took Kugo aback, "and fuck, the look on her face when shit goes down says it all."
Miruko's voice was touched by a hint of either quiet bewilderment or wonder that left Kugo silent. Whatever memory from that encounter had popped into her head had left her in this ambiguous state but she gazed down with an abnormal fondness. The older hero had lost the trail in the mix of possible pride or resignation coming from the woman but he also had no clue why those were the emotions coming from her.
"If we had a 'Deranged Bitch' rep for Japan then I fucking found her," Miruko eventually stated lowly with a thoughtful look and an almost inaudible chuckle followed her harsh words.
"I doubt you'd say that carelessly," Kugo remarked and his comment pulled her from her minor stupor.
"Listen," she grumbled, directing a finger right at him to grab his full attention, "if the kid was a villain then we'd need a whole new bigger and better Tartaurus just for her." Her tone was completely serious and he knew better than to question if she was just exaggerating so the woman just continued on. "You don't just find that sort of madness anywhere," she emphasized, "and I don't even want to think about fighting her again."
Kugo narrowed his eyes as Miruko faintly clammed up and he mulled over the words once more. It would have been easy to say that it was simply due to the injuries she'd incurred but someone like her getting noticeably affected by that? He didn't think so. As soon as that crossed his mind however, it began to click into place.
"Is it only because of her though?" he prodded and Miruko loosed a long, heavy, breath.
"Fighting with her felt...insane honestly," she confirmed reluctantly, "I wasn't really clocking it in the moment but once I went over it I kinda freaked." Miruko closed her eyes, frustration spread on her face, and she ran a hand through her hair messily. "I did a lot of crazy shit I didn't think I was capable of and it felt stupidly good, euphoric even," the heroine explained as best she could and her eyes reopened to show off a harsh glare directed at the ground.
Kugo could recognize the exasperation from her body language and he knew this was weighing on her mind more than ever with her having a new 'family' member, especially when that person was who these complicated feelings and actions had been aimed at. Miruko shifted a hand behind her neck and rubbed at it while giving it a roll.
"It ain't from my rabbit side so it's gotta come all natural from the human me and that ain't good," she noted critically. "Whatever it is I need to fix myself when it comes to that," she claimed and Kugo simply nodded along.
"Savagery, huh?" he remarked and Miruko quickly drew her sight to him.
"You too?"
"Killer whale, remember?" he said, tapping the side of his head. "She must have really had you cornered to pull that out of you," the whale man determined while his junior growled from the thought.
"Sure as hell did," Miruko roughly huffed, "and it wasn't like when I'm trying to beat down a strong opponent either." The heroine slumped back into her seat, snuggling her body tight, and a full blown scowl once again made its presence known. "It was like I was desperately wanting to kill her and in the heat of things I don't think I was scared or just trying to survive but..." she trailed away and then groaned at her own loss of words.
Kugo kept quiet, patiently waiting for her to try and express what she wanted to, because he could at least understand being pushed farther than you thought possible for yourself and how impactful that experience could be. It truly forced you to think about yourself and what sort of person you felt you were and wanted to be and that point, the point in which your humanity was peeled away, could so easily change so much of how you held yourself. Miruko stewed with her thoughts until she couldn't any longer.
"Fuck, it's hard to explain," she hissed but she was still undeterred. "Lemme put it this way," she tried. "She isn't living cause I came to my senses."
Miruko then held a hand in front of herself, gazing at her palm before closing it into a tight fist before letting the tension going and allowing it to relax and re-open.
"She's living cause I couldn't fuckin' put her down."
Notes and Stuff
I'm not set on pairing stuff but I really wanted to do something with this.
Off the bat, rather than Izumi being older than other characters I'm simply starting it when they're older. So the other student characters that are around her age are also about 17/18.
Izumi will be referred to, and be referring to herself, as 'Usagiyama Haru'.
I'll also probably play around with what I do with some of my writing here. Maybe get more brutal in moments given the nature of this and more directly reference a few things that Haru got up to prior to being Rumi's new sister.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and look forward to more updates from me!
