A/N: Obvious disclaimer, I do not own DragonBall, Xenoverse or the like. I do own the OCs that appear in this story, which if a full list is needed (believe me, there's a lot), I will provide it later. Enjoy the story!
"Lettus, you're going to have to be quicker than that!"
"Oh yeah, how about this?"
Two large and muscular men, wearing what appeared to be brown rags for clothes, were rapidly throwing punches and kicks at one another in the wastelands of a large, blue and green planet. One man in particular was larger than the other, and had long spiked hair that went down to his mid back. The other man was somewhat shorter but still very large, and his short hair spiked straight up, with only two small bangs to frame his forehead. Both men shared an interesting feature, and it was that long, hairy monkey tails were present on them, and appeared natural to any observers. The smaller of the two, called Lettus by his sparring partner, threw a punch that the larger of the two caught, before a brutal punch sent him flying to the ground.
"Shit", Lettus swore, panting a bit on the ground before arising to his feet. "Alright, Pakcho, you got a lucky shot in! What say I crank this up a notch?"
The largest man, identified as Pakcho, laughed a little bit before turning to a female of their species who was sitting on a rock nearby. "Sarada, back me up here! Lettus ain't ever going to beat me!"
Sarada only huffed, her long tail twitching impatiently as she brushed her long, spiked black hair from her face. "Cool it you two! We don't wanna attract the attention of the locals."
"Ah, who cares about them?" Pakcho spat in the ground, but seemed to follow her order anyway and walked over to the woman. "I mean, if it weren't for our home planet being destroyed, we wouldn't be on his dump in the first place!"
"Yeah, you gotta point", Lettus sighed, walking over as well. "But if I recall correctly, it was our own fault… wasn't our original planet destroyed by an internal conflict?"
"Yeah, and with a Super Saiyan no less", Pakcho muttered, sitting on the ground in front of Sarada.
"Come off it", Sarada hissed, glaring. "Super Saiyan? Don't believe in such nonsense! If a Super Saiyan really existed, wouldn't one have appeared by now?"
"What do you mean?", Lettus asked.
"Think about it", Sarada said, looking towards him. "This planet has a gravity that is so intense, the locals… what are their names? Tuffles? They're small as hell naturally from the pure gravitational force extracted onto them! We're only benefiting from training and existing under such extremes, so it doesn't stunt our growth, but makes us stronger! If a Super Saiyan were to appear, now would be the time, right?"
"Yeah, you gotta point there!", Pakcho exclaimed, turning to her. "You're about as smart as one of those Tuffles as well, Sarada!"
"Don't you dare compare me to those insects!" Sarada growled, clenching her fist. "I'd sooner sleep with you then even think I am anything like them!"
"Ignoring that crude statement", Lettus sheepishly sighed, as Pakcho's face glowed from the remark. "They aren't all that bad. They treat us well enough."
"You think being forced to live in the wastelands for years is 'good treatment'?" Sarada remarked, glaring at her comrade. "Please. Only good thing living on this planet has done is made our species stronger, and even then we're treated less then slaves to achieve it." She then stood up, sighing. "Whatever… come on, Vegeta apparently wants to fight that one Saiyan that challenged him for leadership. Should be fun to watch someone else other than Lettus get clobbered for a change."
"Knowing Vegeta the Third, it will be a short match", Lettus stated, and he was about to follow after them before he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"You alright?", Pakcho asked, looking concerned.
"Go on ahead", Lettus muttered, not looking at his friend. "I'll catch up to you two later."
At first, Sarada and Pakcho seemed to want to stay, but they just shrugged at one another and turned to walk away. Lettus heard Pakcho mutter "maybe I hit him harder then I thought" before they were out to ear shot, but even then Lettus waited until they went around a ridge a short distance away before he turned to another giant rock in this distance.
"Alright, Tuffle, you can come out now!"
For a few moments, nothing happened, however Lettus' suspicions were confirmed as a girl no less than four feet in height appeared, coming up slightly to his mid-chest. Lettus couldn't help but notice that she was incredibly beautiful, with silky green hair and a yellow dress and white boots to match. Her gray eyes looked upon Lettus in fear. "H-how did you know I was back there?"
"Your breathing gave you away", Lettus stated. "We Saiyans are a strong, warrior race that relies on our senses. You'd do better than to attempt to spy on one of us, Tuffle."
At that, the young woman puffed her cheeks up, putting her hands on her hips in anger. "I have a name you know! It's Chari, and you'd do well to remember it, Lettus of the Saiyans."
Lettus huffed at that. Despite being a bit annoyed by her, he couldn't help but admire her attitude, which was unlike any Tuffles he had seen up till then. "How long were you watching us?"
"For a good while", Chari muttered embarrassingly. "I cannot help but admire the strength you Saiyans have, despite being brutes."
"Who are you calling a 'brute'?" Lettus asked, before he paused to think for a moment. "Also… what does that even mean?"
At that, Chari almost fell over, though she quickly regained her composure before speaking. "My father is the one that calls your people brutes; and if you must know, a brute is what we call those that are savagely violent. You Saiyans seem to do nothing but fight one another. It is a little concerning to us."
"But of course!" Lettus smirked at that, pointing his thumb at himself. "We Saiyans are a strong, proud warrior race! If we could, we would gladly challenge anyone in the known universe to glorious combat!"
Chari raised her eyebrow at that. "And that is fun to you?"
"Of course! We Saiyans strive to be the most powerful. Fighting one another fuels this. When a Saiyan fights, they get stronger. We even gain massive boosts in strength from brutal, life threatening injuries!"
"Sounds like you guys are living weapons", Chari muttered, through despite her distaste at the thought she couldn't help but look over Lettus and his muscles, though she seemed to quickly dismiss whatever she was thinking about. "We Tuffles, on the other hand, value our intelligence and cunning over violence and strength."
"I noticed", Lettus stated, shaking his head. "You Tuffles are something else. I mean, what would you guys do if your planet was invaded?"
"Well, I guess we would invite them to live in our wastelands", Chari stated. Lettus was almost offended by this, but he couldn't help but notice the smirk on her face, and quickly figured out that she was joking around.
"Heh, I guess you guys did", Lettus sighed at that, stretching himself out. "Well, guess we'll have to protect you guys in case that ever happens, though don't expect us to do it for free."
"I'll keep that in mind in case another brutish race happens to appear."

For the next few months, Lettus and Chari would bump into one another almost consistently. It seemed like whenever Lettus was training, or sparing with another warrior, Chari wasn't too far off in the distance watching him. Occasionally, they would chat, learn more about what made the other tick, and the more this happened the more Lettus couldn't help but admire and care for her. Though her size was small and her physical strength non-existent, her spunk and daringness is what drew him towards her, though he couldn't admit this out loud. Twice she was spotted by another that Lettus was with, and they dismissed her quickly and harshly.
"Those damn midgets", Sarada said, growling after she spotted Chari watching her fight with Lettus. "They think we are nothing but bugs under their feet, when in reality they are the insects!"
"They aren't-", Lettus spoke up, but he was quickly interrupted by Sarada.
"I don't even want to hear it, Lettus! They are weak, pathetic creatures! I can't even see how we are supposed to co-exist with them! We Saiyans value strength beyond all else, a race like that is nothing but dust in the wind to us!"
"She doesn't really mean that, does she?", Chari asked, approaching Lettus after Sarada stormed off in a fit.
"Well, it is true that we are a proud race that values our strength… but what I think she fails to realize is that strength comes in many forms." Lettus signed, sitting on the ground next to Chari.
Chari looked at Lettus shocked, "Like what?"
"I mean, ever since I met you, I learned that strength also comes from one's willingness to just do things", Lettus paused for a moment, trying to think. "I can't really put it into words, but it's not like physical strength, more like pride."
"I think I know what you are trying to say", Chari muttered, looking in awe at him. "What you mean to say is that I have courage to go against my people's normal routine of ignoring you guys, and that is a form of strength different from physical."
"Yeah, that is exactly it!"
"I am impressed, Lettus. I thought Saiyans weren't supposed to be intellectual."
"Yeah, well, not all of us are brutes, either", Lettus sheepishly muttered, blushing a little. He turned back to her and for a few moments neither of them moved. Then, before Lettus could even process what was going on, she had flung her arms around him, and began to kiss him. Lettus seemed taken aback at first, but eventually began to return the kiss passionately. The two parted after sometime had passed, both blushing madly and refusing to look at one another.
"Um… sorry", Chari muttered after a few moments. "I-I don't know what came over me there..."
"No, no, that was… nice", Lettus finally said, before clearing his throat. "I'd, uh... like to do that more often."
"In broad daylight?!", Chari gasped, looking around. "We might be caught! I don't want anyone thinking... well, you know how our species are with one another, not to mention the height difference."
"Ok, ok, how how about we start meeting once a week during the night, just on the outskirts of the city. That way, we don't need to just keep trying to find one another. Let's start tonight!"
"Tonight?", Chari repeated, nodding. "Ok. Tonight it is. See you there, Lettus."
XxXxXxX –1 Year Later– XxXxXxX
"The Saiyans might be starting a war soon".
Chari flinched, but continued to just stare out at the city skyline from the cliff side she and Lettus were meeting at. The blight lights showed the city was alive and busy despite the moon being right in the middle of the sky, indicating the time to night it was. A slow breath escaped her lips, before she finally turned to Lettus, holding the black cloak she was using to cover herself tighter. "I figured. It was only a matter of time before your species mounted a resistance against mine; we have been treating you guys too harshly."
"I'd rather not fight you guys", Lettus muttered, looking down. "I-"
"Well, this is a first", Chari laughed, almost losing the grip she had on her cloak. "Lettus doesn't want to fight. I am shocked."
"Chari", Lettus said sharply. "How are you not concerned about this?"
"Lettus, what we Tuffles lack in physical strength, we make up for in intellect", Chari explained. "We have technology that would allow us to combat any Saiyan threat that comes our way. If anything, I am more worried about you and your people."
Lettus signed, sitting on the grass next to her. "If we do go to war, I will do my best to keep you safe."
A long silence filled the air, both Saiyan and Tuffle not speaking for moving for several minutes. Finally, Lettus looked over at the woman he had grown to fall for, and raised an eyebrow at her. "What else is wrong? You seem off tonight."
Chari looked down, tightening the hold on her cloak before finally just letting it fall. "Lettus, I'm pregnant." Lettus stood up in shock and looked down. Sure enough, her small frame didn't seem so small width wise anymore, with a prominent belly growing. Tears began to flow from her face, as she looked up at her lover with fear etched into her eyes. "W-what are we going to do? Will they be born with a tail? Since your species all have black hair and eyes, what will happen if they have green hair and gray eyes like mine instead?"
"We- we will figure it out", Lettus muttered, looking scared but at the same time his eye shimmered with hope. "I love you, Chari, and being a father will make me happier then when Pakcho finally slept with Sarada. Actually, come to think of it, I think she's pregnant too… ah boy, bet our kids are going to be sparing rivals."
Chari couldn't help but laugh at that, rubbing her belly with a bit of happiness before she finally fell into a frown again. "I just worry they won't look enough like a Saiyan to blend in with your people, Lettus. What's going to happen if they're too Tuffle to be Saiyan, but too Saiyan to be Tuffle?"
"Hey, hey, let's not worry about that right now", Lettus smiled, kneeling down and pulling her into an embrace. "Let's just enjoy this moment. You're going to be a mother, Chari."
"I am, Lettus", she cried with a smile, holding him. "I am."
XxXxXxX –A few months later– XxXxXxX
"She didn't make it?"
Pure misery was etched onto Lettus' face, as he stared down at an older Tuffle that was looking back up at him. The older man's white coat was covered by his gray bread, and his serious blue eyes pierced into Lettus' own black ones. The mud hut they were in let in a draft, which clearly caused the doctor discomfort, but neither the less he just cleared his throat and turned to a makeshift bed, where the pale body of Chari lie. "No. If I could've performed this birth in the city, then perhaps I could've saved her; however, I could not out here in your little mud huts."
Lettus fell to his knees, and though no tears came from his eyes, it was clear they were threatening to fall. The heartbroken man only stared at the dirt floor, letting agony consume him.
"Your daughter lives", the doctor stated, which caused Lettus to perk up. "She was born larger than any Tuffle baby would've been, which might've been the reason Chari didn't survive the birth. Still, the baby lives."
He led Lettus into another room of the mud hut, where a Tuffle mid-wife sat with a baby that was clearly larger then she could hold, causing her to look at the Saiyan as if pleading for relief. Lettus reached out and took hold of his daughter, looking upon the bundle he was holding. The young girl already had hair, which to Lettus' shock and horror was green just like Chari's, and she had the same eyes as his diseased lover as well, which were staring right at him with wonder and confusion. A black tail was swishing as she stared at her father with curiosity, unaware of the unique circumstances of her very existence.
"Chari had one final message for you before she went", the doctor spoke, clearing his throat. "No matter what happens, even if war occurs and the Saiyans emerge victorious, wiping every Tuffle from the face of reality, keep our daughter safe. Do not let the other Saiyans know she is a hybrid."
"…thank you, doctor."
"Are you sure you should be thanking me?" the doctor muttered, sighing. "I almost didn't agree to this when Chari asked me and my wife to come out here. A half-Tuffle, half-Saiyan baby? That child is going to have one hell of a life. She's already too big to be a Tuffle baby, and even if she was smaller the tail gives her away. In addition, she certainly isn't pure Saiyan, the hair and eyes are an instant give a way to that. Still, she has the right to live, and I guess we should give her a chance. You better name her, Lettus."
"I know she is going to have a hard life", Lettus muttered, staring down at his daughter. "But, I might be able to convince the others that she is a pure-blood, just one that has a mutation that changed her hair and eye color. After all, she has a tail, and she is only a little smaller then the average Saiyan baby. I should give her a Saiyan name, though, if I really want to pass her off. I'll name her Cress, after my late grandmother. She was a mighty Saiyan indeed."
"And she was not a breed traitor like you are, Lettus."
Before Lettus could even react, a sudden flash of light shot through the mud hut. When Lettus could finally see again, he cried out in agony. Lying on the floor was the doctor and the mid-wife, dead and burnt by plasmic energy almost beyond recognition. Standing at the door frame was a tall man with black, spiked up hair in the shape of a flame, and a beard fit for a king.
"Vegeta!" Lettus shouted, as the newly dubbed baby Cress began to cry. "How dare you!"
"How dare I?" Vegeta shot back. "Breeding with a Tuffle? Creating a half-breed?! You bring shame to all Saiyan kind, Lettus! Look at the child you hold! Tell me how she is supposed to pass as Saiyan pure-blood?!" Lettus growled in frustration as he held Cress close to him, causing Vegeta to scoff and walk past him towards the bodies of the Tuffles he murdered. "Disgusting creatures. I don't even know how you managed it, Lettus. Then again, considering her death birthing your bastard, I'd say you barely managed it."
"SHUT UP!" Lettus screamed, charging, though Vegeta only side stepped and sent Lettus flying into the wall. Cress cried louder at the shockwave of the impact, but Lettus had made sure she wasn't going to be injured as he turned towards Vegeta again. "YOU SHUT UP YOU-"
"You want to fight?!" Vegeta shouted back. "I've always been your superior, Lettus, even though I am younger then you. You cannot stop me from killing you, or that child. You're a disgrace and will die like one!" He held up his hand, and Lettus felt frozen in place. He couldn't move not just because he knew Vegeta was right, but because should he even start to run, he would be blasted the moment he started. Vegeta looked him up and down, and sighed. "My late father had expectations for you, Lettus. Oh well, Sarada and Pakcho produced a healthy baby girl as well, and unlike your bastard, she isn't a half-breed. Fennelle will be the Saiyan your daughter should've been, Lettus. A proud, pure-bred that will grow up in conflict and thrive once we take over this wretched planet."
"Conflict? You mean-"
"That's right, Lettus", Vegeta snarled, grinning. "The Saiyans are going to invade the Tuffle city tonight. We will not stop until every Tuffle is eliminated, and it'll all begin with what happened here in this very hut. A shame you have to die too, but with your obsession with these creatures, we can't risk more hybrids now can we?"
"Vegeta, wait!" Lettus shouted at him, holding Cress closer as she cried. "We can make a deal! Please, spare my daughter and I will swear allegiance to you!"
"I cannot trust you now that you've bred with one of those insects!" Vegeta roared, raising his hand and pointing his palm at Lettus and his daughter. "DIE!"
"KING VEGETA, YOUR MAJESTY, I BEG OF YOU!"
Other than Cress' crying, silence had struck the room. Vegeta eyed Lettus, his hand still raised but no energy even forming in it. "What did you just call me?"
"King", Lettus repeated, kneeling and bowing as he held Cress, who's cries dissolved into mere whimpers, as if she knew her life was being bargained for. "Sire, your father always talked about establishing a Saiyan empire with him at the helm, but you are the one for the job. You are stronger then every Saiyan, and smarter than any Tuffle. I pledge myself to you, no matter the cost. But please, my daughter, spare my daughter, and she too will be your servant as I will be. She is still a Saiyan, if but half, but still a Saiyan!"
Vegeta paused at this, before lowering his hand and grunting, though he couldn't hide the fact that he was smirking a little. "Yes, the plan was always for my father to rule this planet under a new Saiyan empire once we conquered it, and I would be Prince. Sadly, though, I guess I must now become king in his place. You swear your loyalty to me no matter what, Lettus, along with that of that half-breed, Cress? Fine. I shall spare your daughter's life for now, but make no mistake, Lettus. If any disloyalty comes from either of you, even if I ask you to sacrifice yourself for me to win this war, the deal is off and she will be exposed for what she is and slaughtered. You will most likely be slaughtered along with her, since you are a race traitor. Though you can prove yourself to me now, Lettus. Under no circumstances are you to spare any Tuffle as I command. In exchange for your and your daugher's absolute loyalty and obedience, I will play along with whatever delusion you create in order to make the other Saiyan's believe that she is pure-blood. Do I make myself clear?"
Lettus closed his eyes, and let the final words from his lover play in his head. Her voice echoed in the darkness he saw, and for an instant he almost thought that she was right beside him, whispering her final words as she held their daughter with him. "No matter what happens, even if war occurs and the Saiyans emerge victorious, wiping every Tuffle from the face of reality… keep our daughter safe. Do not let the other Saiyans know she is a hybrid."
"My life, and the life of my daughter, are in service to you, Your Majesty."
A/N: I know I didn't write Chari and Lettus the best, but eh I had to get the ball rolling somehow. I am better at slow burn romances, the type where you got so much fluff that you're practically screaming "JUST KISS ALREADY" at the two characters. Not that this story will have any romance outside of those two, spoiler alert.
Hoping that you guys like this initial first chapter! Don't worry, the summery will make more sense come future chapters, so stay tuned!
