Izuku Midoriya's heart hammered in his chest as he ascended the steps to U.A. High School, the iconic hero academy he had dreamed of attending for as long as he could remember. Today was the day he had fantasized about endlessly—a chance to prove himself, to take the first definitive step toward becoming the hero he had always aspired to be. Yet, despite his rigorous preparations, nerves gnawed at his resolve, tightening around his thoughts like a vice.
As he glanced around, his anxiety deepened. The other examinees exuded an aura of confidence, their power evident in their bearing. Some were already showcasing their quirks—small demonstrations, but enough to make an impression. It was clear that many of them were eager to prove themselves before the exam even began. Izuku felt a familiar knot of anxiety twist in his stomach. *I don't have a quirk like them* he thought, clenching his fists tightly. *What if I fail? What if… I'm not good enough?*
Memories of his grueling training with All Might flickered through his mind like a montage, each moment a testament to the sweat and effort he had poured into this dream. He had pushed his body to its absolute limits, enduring pain and exhaustion every day. Yet, despite all that effort, doubt still lingered in the back of his mind. *What if it's not enough?*
As he walked into the massive auditorium where the practical exam briefing would take place, Izuku tried to steady his racing heart. The sheer scale of the room—filled with hundreds of students, all eagerly anticipating the challenge ahead—only heightened his nerves. He found a seat near the back, instinctively gravitating toward the shadows, hoping to remain unnoticed amidst the sea of hopefuls.
The hum of conversation around him was almost overwhelming, and Izuku found himself sinking further into his thoughts. But then, a voice—sharp and familiar—cut through the noise, jarring him from his thoughts.
Deku!"
Izuku flinched, the voice instantly recognizable. He turned slowly, already knowing who he would see. Katsuki Bakugo, his childhood friend-turned-bully, was standing behind him, arms crossed and a scowl etched onto his face. The intensity in Bakugo's gaze was palpable, his usual confidence radiating off him in waves.
"What the hell are you doing here, Deku?" Bakugo sneered, his voice laced with disbelief and irritation. "You think you're actually going to pass this exam, you damn nerd?"
Izuku opened his mouth to respond, but the words caught in his throat. Despite all the training he had endured, despite all the progress he had made, standing in front of Bakugo still made him feel small—like the quirkless kid who had been powerless against his tormentor for so many years. He swallowed hard, trying to muster a response that wouldn't sound as weak as he felt.
"I… I'm here to try my best, Kacchan," Izuku finally managed, his voice trembling despite his efforts to keep it steady.
Bakugo's eyes narrowed, his scowl deepening. "Your best?" he scoffed, leaning closer, his voice dropping to a low, threatening whisper. "You're quirkless, Deku. You don't belong here. You're just gonna embarrass yourself in front of everyone. So do yourself a favor and stay out of my way."
Izuku felt the sting of Bakugo's words, each one landing like a blow. He wanted to argue, to stand up for himself, but years of Bakugo's taunts had left him struggling to find the right words. Instead, he simply nodded, turning back to face the stage, his heart pounding even harder now.
Bakugo snorted in disgust and walked away, leaving Izuku alone with his thoughts. *Stay out of his way?* How could he? This was his dream too, his one chance to prove that he was more than just a quirkless nobody. He couldn't let Bakugo's words shake him, not now. But the doubt was still there, gnawing at the edges of his confidence.
As the auditorium continued to fill, Izuku noticed the wide range of students taking their seats. Some whispered excitedly to each other, speculating about the practical exam and what it might involve. Others sat in silence, their expressions focused and determined, mentally preparing for the challenge ahead.
Izuku's thoughts were interrupted as the lights in the auditorium dimmed. The murmurs of the crowd gradually died down, replaced by an expectant silence. A spotlight flickered on, illuminating the stage where a figure with wild blonde hair and green-tinted shades stood at the podium. It was none other than Present Mic, one of U.A.'s most recognizable Pro Heroes, known for his boundless energy and booming voice.
"WHAT'S UP, FUTURE HEROES?!" Present Mic's voice reverberated through the auditorium like a sonic blast, and several students flinched at the volume. But the reaction quickly shifted as excitement spread through the room. Present Mic's enthusiasm was infectious, and despite the tension, many of the students—including Izuku—couldn't help but grin.
"ARE YOU READY TO ROCK THIS EXAM?!" Present Mic continued, striking a dynamic pose that made his already larger-than-life presence seem even bigger.
A chorus of cheers erupted from the crowd, though some students—like Izuku—were more hesitant, their voices lost in the cacophony. Still, the atmosphere was electric, charged with the anticipation of what was to come.
"THAT'S WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR!" Present Mic's grin widened as he reveled in the energy of the room. "NOW LISTEN UP, 'CAUSE HERE'S HOW IT'S GONNA GO DOWN!"
The auditorium fell into a focused silence as Present Mic began to explain the rules of the practical exam. Izuku leaned forward slightly, eager to absorb every detail.
"You're all gonna be dropped into a simulated city environment," Present Mic explained, his voice still booming but now tinged with seriousness. "Your goal? Take down as many mock villains as you can! Each villain's worth a certain number of points. The more points you rack up, the better your chances of passing!"
Izuku's mind raced as he tried to picture the exam. A simulated city? Mock villains? It sounded intense, but he had been preparing for this moment. Still, he couldn't shake the nervous flutter in his chest.
Present Mic paused for dramatic effect, letting the information sink in before continuing. "THERE ARE FOUR TYPES OF VILLAINS you'll face in the practical exam! We've got the one-pointer, the two-pointer, and the three-pointer—each one tougher to take down than the last! AND THEN—there's a fourth type, the ZERO-POINTER!"
A low murmur spread through the crowd at the mention of the zero-pointer. Izuku felt his curiosity piqued. *A zero-pointer? What's that?*
Present Mic seemed to sense the unspoken question. "The zero-pointer's a GIANT obstacle we've thrown in just to make things interesting! It's HUGE, it's MEAN, and it's worth ZERO points! You can try to take it down if you're feelin' brave, but it'll just waste your time—SO DON'T SWEAT IT!"
The crowd reacted with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Izuku could hear some students muttering about strategies, while others seemed more focused on avoiding the zero-pointer altogether.
Suddenly, a sharp voice cut through the murmurs. "Excuse me, sir!"
Izuku turned to see a tall student with a buzz cut and glasses—Tenya Iida—standing with his hand raised. His posture was rigid, his expression serious.
Present Mic pointed at Iida with a grin. "GO AHEAD, MY MAN! WHAT'S
YOUR QUESTION?"
Iida adjusted his glasses, his tone formal and precise. "According to the handout we received, there are only three types of villains listed, yet you've just mentioned a fourth. Isn't that a bit… inconsistent? Could this not confuse some of the examinees?"
A few students rolled their eyes, while others nodded thoughtfully, appreciating Iida's attention to detail. Izuku admired Iida's confidence—he wished he could be that composed in front of everyone.
Present Mic leaned forward, his grin widening. "EXCELLENT QUESTION! The zero-pointer's not listed because it's not about points—it's a test of your judgment! Think of it as a curveball. You see that bad boy comin'? You've gotta decide how you're gonna handle it. Capisce?"
Iida nodded, satisfied with the explanation, though some students exchanged uneasy glances. The room buzzed with nervous excitement as Present Mic wrapped up his briefing.
Just when it seemed like the exam was about to begin, Present Mic's tone shifted, taking on a more serious edge. He raised a hand to calm the crowd, his voice dipping slightly in volume but losing none of its intensity.
"NOW, BEFORE WE GET STARTED," he announced, his eyes gleaming with anticipation, "WE'VE GOT A SPECIAL SURPRISE FOR YA!"
The students exchanged curious glances. A surprise? What could it be?
Present Mic's grin returned, as wide as ever. "I KNOW YOU'RE ALL PUMPED AND READY TO KICK SOME VILLAIN BUTT, BUT WE'VE GOT SOMEONE HERE TODAY WHO WANTS TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE EXTRA INSPIRATION!"
The lights dimmed further, and a hush fell over the auditorium. Izuku's heart skipped a beat, his mind racing with possibilities. *Who could it be?*
"PLEASE GIVE A WARM WELCOME TO A VERY SPECIAL GUEST—THE ONE AND ONLY, SAINTESS SERAPHINA EVERHEART!"
The room erupted into gasps of surprise and murmurs of awe as Seraphina Everheart stepped onto the stage, accompanied by Midnight and Cementos. Izuku's eyes widened in disbelief. *Seraphina? Here?* He had read about her, the legendary Saintess known for her miraculous healing abilities and unwavering commitment to helping others. She was a figure of hope and inspiration in the hero world—a living legend.
Seraphina's presence was almost ethereal as she moved gracefully across the stage. Her chestnut hair cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall of silk, and her hazel eyes seemed to glow with a warmth that immediately soothed the tension in the room. She wore a white gown adorned with golden accents, and her every movement exuded an aura of calm and serenity.
When she spoke, her voice was soft yet powerful, carrying effortlessly across the auditorium. "Good morning, everyone," she began, her tone gentle but filled with conviction. "It's an honor to be here with you today. I know how much this exam means to each of you, and I want you to know that you have my full support."
Izuku felt a wave of calm wash over him as he listened to her words. The anxiety that had been gnawing at his insides began to melt away. He couldn't believe that Seraphina—the Saintess herself—was standing in front of him, offering words of encouragement.
Around him, the other students were similarly affected. The tension in the room seemed to dissipate, replaced by a sense of quiet determination. Even those who had been brimming with overconfidence or anxiety now seemed to hang on her every word, captivated by her presence.
Seraphina continued, her gaze sweeping across the room as she spoke. "The path you've chosen is not an easy one, but it's one of the most
important. Being a hero is about more than just strength or power—it's about compassion, empathy, and the willingness to protect those who cannot protect themselves."
Her words seemed to resonate deeply with the students. Izuku felt his chest tighten with emotion. *That's exactly it* he thought. *Being a hero isn't just about having a powerful quirk. It's about being there for others, no matter what.* Seraphina's message was a reminder of why he had chosen this path in the first place.
"As you face the challenges ahead," Seraphina continued, her voice as soothing as a lullaby but with the strength of steel beneath it, "remember that you are not alone. You have each other, and you have the strength within you to overcome any obstacle. Believe in yourselves, and don't be afraid to show kindness, even in the heat of battle."
Izuku's eyes flickered to the students around him. He noticed how they seemed to be sitting up a little straighter, their nerves replaced by determination. Even Katsuki Bakugo, usually full of brash confidence, was watching Seraphina intently, his usual scowl softened into something more contemplative.
Seraphina's words continued to weave through the room, touching every heart present. "Most importantly," she added, her smile warm and encouraging, "never forget why you chose this path. You're here because you want to make a difference in the world, and I believe in each and every one of you."
The moment she finished speaking, the room erupted into applause. The energy in the auditorium had shifted entirely—where there had been tension and doubt, there was now hope and resolve. The students, once anxious or overconfident, were united by a shared sense of purpose.
Izuku joined in the applause, his hands trembling slightly as he clapped. He could feel his doubts being overshadowed by the resolve Seraphina had instilled in him. He could do this. He would do this. Her words had
reignited the fire inside him, and for the first time, he felt like he truly belonged here, alongside all the other aspiring heroes.
As the applause finally died down, Seraphina stepped back gracefully, allowing Present Mic to retake the stage. His usual boisterous energy returned, his voice ringing out across the room.
"LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR THE SAINTESS, EVERYBODY!" Present Mic shouted, his enthusiasm as infectious as ever. "ONE MORE TIME!"
The crowd erupted once more, their cheers filling the auditorium. Seraphina smiled softly, bowing her head slightly in acknowledgment before stepping off the stage. Present Mic waited for the noise to die down before continuing.
"ALRIGHT, FUTURE HEROES! NOW THAT YOU'RE ALL FIRED UP, IT'S TIME TO GET OUT THERE AND SHOW US WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF! REMEMBER, THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT SMASHING ROBOTS—IT'S ABOUT SHOWING US WHO YOU ARE AS HEROES!"
The mood in the room had transformed. The students were no longer just anxious or eager—they were determined. Seraphina's words had clearly left a deep impression on them, and the renewed sense of purpose was palpable.
As the students began to file out of the auditorium, Izuku lingered for a moment, watching as Seraphina gracefully exited the stage. He couldn't shake the feeling that her presence had been a gift—not just to him, but to everyone here. Her message of compassion, empathy, and courage had resonated deeply with him, and he knew it was something he would carry with him into the exam.
He watched as Seraphina briefly spoke with Principal Nezu, who had been observing from the side. Even amidst the bustling crowd, her calm and gentle demeanor stood out, like a beacon of light guiding them all. Izuku felt a deep sense of gratitude. *She really believes in us* he thought. *In
me.*
Before long, Present Mic's voice rang out again, directing the students to their respective examination sites. The shift in the atmosphere was almost tangible—gone were the nerves and chatter, replaced by focused determination. The students filed out in groups, some discussing strategies, others walking in silence, mentally preparing themselves for what lay ahead.
Izuku found himself swept up in the crowd, his mind racing. The practical exam was going to be tough, and despite the encouragement he felt from Seraphina's speech, the familiar weight of doubt began to creep back in. But he quickly pushed it aside, remembering her words. *Never forget why you chose this path.*
He clenched his fists, steeling himself. He wasn't going to give up—not now, not after everything he had been through. He had a chance—a real chance—to prove himself, and he was going to give it everything he had.
--
From a high observation room overlooking the various exam sites, Seraphina stood beside Principal Nezu and several other U.A. staff members. The room was filled with monitors, each one displaying a different section of the simulated city where the practical exam was taking place. The excitement and tension in the air were palpable, even from this vantage point.
"These young heroes… they're remarkable," Seraphina remarked softly as she observed the students navigating the challenges below. "Full of potential, but also full of heart. They're ready to face whatever comes their way."
Nezu nodded, his small form perched comfortably on a stool. "Indeed. Each one brings something unique to the table, and it's our job to help them refine those qualities into true heroism. I believe your presence here
today has already made a significant impact, Saintess."
Seraphina's gaze remained fixed on the screens as she replied, "I'm honored to be a part of this. Watching them, I can see so much courage, even in the face of uncertainty."
Her eyes were drawn to one monitor in particular. It showed a student with glasses and a determined expression—Tenya Iida—using his speed quirk to expertly navigate the city, taking down mock villains with precision and efficiency. His movements were calculated, his discipline evident in every step. Seraphina could see the makings of a leader in him, someone who could guide others with both his actions and his words.
On another screen, a student with spiky red hair—Eijiro Kirishima—charged into battle with fearless enthusiasm. His hardening quirk allowed him to take on stronger villains head-on, protecting other students as he did so. Seraphina admired his bravery and his instinct to shield others from harm, even when it put him in danger.
As she continued to observe, her attention shifted to one particular student who seemed to be struggling yet refusing to give up. Izuku Midoriya was doing his best to navigate the city, avoiding the larger villains while trying to take down as many smaller ones as he could. His movements were hesitant at times, but there was a determination in his eyes that Seraphina couldn't ignore.
"He's not the strongest or the fastest," she remarked, her voice filled with thoughtful observation, "but there's something about him… a resilience, a drive to keep going, no matter the odds."
Nezu glanced at the screen she was watching and nodded. "That's young Midoriya. He's certainly one to watch. His spirit is something special, even if he doesn't fully realize it yet."
Seraphina continued to watch as Izuku faced a particularly challenging moment. A large, three-point villain loomed over him, and for a moment,
it seemed like the pressure would overwhelm him. But then, just as the villain struck, Izuku dodged out of the way at the last second, narrowly avoiding the attack. He stumbled but quickly regained his footing, determination burning in his eyes.
"He doesn't give up," Seraphina said quietly, a note of admiration in her voice. "No matter how many times he falls, he gets back up. That's the kind of strength that can't be measured by quirk alone."
Nezu smiled, his eyes twinkling with approval. "Indeed. It's not always the flashy quirks that make the greatest heroes. Sometimes, it's the ones with the quietest strength who make the biggest impact."
As the exam continued, Seraphina observed more of the students, taking mental notes on their performances. She watched as Bakugo Katsuki tore through the villains with explosive power, his aggressive style leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. While his strength was undeniable, Seraphina couldn't help but notice the intense anger that fueled his actions.
"So much raw power," she murmured, her tone thoughtful. "But he needs to learn control. If he could temper that fire with calmness, he'd be unstoppable."
Nezu nodded in agreement. "Katsuki Bakugo is exceptionally talented, but he's still learning how to harness that talent in a way that benefits others, not just himself."
Seraphina's gaze returned to Izuku as he continued to fight through the obstacles, his face set with determination. "There's something special about him," she said softly, her eyes focused on the screen. "I can see why Toshinori—why All Might—chose him as his successor."
Nezu glanced at her with curiosity. "You've spoken with Toshinori about young Midoriya?"
Seraphina nodded, her expression serious but warm. "Yes, we talked about him before I came here. Toshinori sees something in him—something that goes beyond quirk or power. It's his heart, his desire to help others. That's what makes him worthy of the mantle."
Nezu smiled, clearly pleased with the discussion. "I have no doubt that young Midoriya will grow into a fine hero under Toshinori's guidance. And with your influence here, Seraphina, I believe all of our students will benefit greatly."
As the exam neared its conclusion, Seraphina watched intently as Izuku faced one final challenge—a massive zero-point villain, towering over the city with an intimidating presence. The ground trembled under the sheer weight of the mechanical behemoth as it made its way through the simulated city. Most of the students wisely chose to avoid it, heeding Present Mic's earlier advice. The zero-pointer was a trap, an obstacle not meant to be tackled head-on. It was meant to be avoided, its presence a test of judgment rather than brute strength.
But Izuku Midoriya didn't move away. His eyes were locked on something—someone—amidst the rubble. A girl with short brown hair was trapped under a pile of debris, unable to move as the zero-pointer bore down on her. The terror in her eyes was palpable, and Izuku knew she wouldn't be able to escape on her own.
Seraphina leaned forward slightly, her eyes narrowing in anticipation. "He's going to…"
Before she could finish her thought, Izuku was already in motion. With a look of fierce determination, he propelled himself forward, using every ounce of strength he had. His mind flashed through everything All Might had taught him, everything he had learned during his grueling training. This was the moment he had been preparing for—the moment to prove he was more than just quirkless Deku.
The force of One For All surged through his body, and with a single,
powerful leap, he soared into the air, aiming straight for the zero-pointer. The wind whipped through his hair as he ascended, and for a brief moment, it was as if time itself slowed down.
From the observation room, Seraphina's heart swelled with pride and admiration. "Such courage," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "He's risking everything to save her, even though he knows it might cost him."
Nezu, standing beside her, nodded in agreement. "This is what makes him a true hero. It's not about the points or the victory—it's about doing what's right, no matter the cost."
On the screen, Izuku's fist connected with the zero-pointer's massive face, and the impact was nothing short of spectacular. The air rippled with the force of the blow, and the sound of metal crumpling echoed through the simulated city. The zero-pointer, once an indomitable obstacle, was reduced to scrap as Izuku's punch obliterated it in a single, awe-inspiring strike.
The students watching from a distance gasped in astonishment, and for a moment, the entire exam seemed to pause. Izuku Midoriya had done the impossible.
But even as Izuku triumphed, the toll it took on his body became apparent. The strain of using One For All at such intensity had left him battered and broken. As he began to fall back toward the ground, his limbs limp and his consciousness slipping, it was clear he was in grave danger.
Seraphina's breath caught in her throat, her instincts screaming at her to intervene. But before she could act, another student—the very girl Izuku had saved—sprang into action. Ochaco Uraraka, her face filled with gratitude and determination, used her quirk to make Izuku weightless, slowing his descent and preventing further injury. She guided him gently to the ground, her eyes wide with concern.
Seraphina exhaled slowly, a small smile of relief tugging at her lips. "He saved her, and she saved him," she remarked softly. "They're already looking out for each other. That's the spirit of a true hero."
Nezu observed the scene with a thoughtful expression. "Indeed. It's moments like these that show us what kind of heroes these students will become. Young Midoriya may not realize it yet, but he's already inspiring those around him."
As the practical exam concluded, the students began to regroup, some exhausted, others triumphant. Medical teams rushed in to tend to the injured, including Izuku, who was quickly taken to Recovery Girl for treatment. Despite his injuries, a small, contented smile played on his lips. He had done it. He had made a difference.
From the observation room, Seraphina watched as the aftermath of the exam unfolded. Her heart was full—of admiration, of hope, and of a quiet certainty that these students, especially Izuku, were destined for greatness.
She turned to Nezu, her expression serene but resolute. "These students… they have what it takes to become heroes in every sense of the word. I have no doubt they'll grow into the protectors this world needs."
Nezu smiled, his small eyes twinkling with a mix of pride and satisfaction. "I couldn't agree more, Saintess. With their potential and the guidance of the faculty, they'll become the next generation of heroes that society can rely on. And I believe your presence here today has given them the inspiration they need to take that next step."
Seraphina nodded, feeling a sense of peace settle over her. "I'm glad I could be a part of this. Watching them today… it reminds me why I chose this path. They've reignited my own sense of purpose."
--
After the intense practical exam, the students were directed to the infirmary for treatment and rest. U.A. High's top-notch medical facilities were in full swing as Recovery Girl and her team attended to the numerous injuries sustained during the trials. Seraphina, ever attentive and compassionate, made her way through the bustling infirmary. The scent of antiseptic hung lightly in the air, mingling with the soft murmurs of healing students.
She had been moving from bed to bed, offering her healing abilities and gentle words of comfort to the young heroes who lay exhausted and injured. Her presence was calming, a soothing balm in the chaotic aftermath of the exam. She could feel the tension in the air—the mixture of relief, pain, and anxiety—but wherever she went, it seemed to ease, if only a little.
One young boy with a sprained ankle looked up at her with wide, tear-filled eyes as she placed her hands over the injury. Her hands glowed faintly with a soft golden light, and within moments, the boy's pained expression shifted to one of awe. "You're the Saintess…" he whispered in disbelief.
Seraphina smiled down at him. "Yes, and you're a brave hero," she replied softly, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. "Take care of yourself. You'll be back on your feet in no time."
As the boy thanked her profusely, Seraphina moved on to the next patient—a girl who had taken a hit to the ribs during the exam. Seraphina knelt by her bedside, the same gentle glow of her healing quirk illuminating her hands. The girl winced as the healing energy began to mend the internal damage, but Seraphina's soothing presence kept her calm.
"You did well today," Seraphina said quietly, her voice almost a whisper. "Rest now. You've earned it."
Once the girl was resting peacefully, Seraphina rose, her gaze drifting
across the room. Despite all the injuries and fatigue, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment in the air—a feeling that these students had faced something monumental and come out stronger on the other side.
But there was one more student she wanted to see. She had saved him for last, knowing that their conversation might be different from the others. She had watched his progress with keen interest, and now, she wanted to check on him personally. Izuku Midoriya.
Seraphina moved silently through the hallways of the infirmary, her long gown trailing softly behind her. When she reached Midoriya's room, she found him fast asleep, his face peaceful despite the bandages that wrapped his arms and legs. The soft glow of the setting sun filtered through the window, casting a warm light over the room.
Seraphina stood at the doorway for a moment, simply watching him. She could see the exhaustion in his features, the toll that the exam had taken on him. But there was something else, too—an underlying determination that seemed to radiate from him even in sleep. This was a young man who had faced impossible odds and had come out the other side, changed but unbroken.
Stepping inside, Seraphina approached his bedside quietly, careful not to wake him. She pulled up a chair and sat down, taking in the sight of him. His breath was steady, though she could see the strain in his muscles. He had pushed himself to the limit, and it was clear that his body was still recovering.
For a few moments, Seraphina simply sat there in silence, her presence calm and comforting. She considered using her healing abilities to ease his recovery, but something told her that this rest was important—that his body needed this time to heal naturally, to rebuild its strength from within. She would let him rest for now.
As she sat there, lost in thought, Izuku's eyes began to flutter open. His vision was blurry at first, and it took him a moment to realize where he
was. The soft glow of the infirmary lights, the faint scent of antiseptic—it all started to come into focus. And then, he saw her.
His heart skipped a beat.
"S-Seraphina?" he blurted out, his voice a mix of awe, panic, and disbelief. His mind raced as he processed the situation—*The Saintess? Here? Right next to me?!*
Izuku shot upright in bed, his body moving faster than his brain could catch up. Unfortunately, his sudden movement caused a sharp pain to shoot through his side where he was still injured. "Ow!" he yelped, clutching his ribs, but the realization of who was beside him quickly overshadowed the pain.
His face turned bright red as the reality of the situation sank in. *I'm lying in bed, and the Saintess—Lady Seraphina herself—is sitting right next to me!*
His hero fanboy brain kicked into overdrive, thoughts whirling at a hundred miles per hour. *This is Seraphina! The Seraphina! The Saintess who heals and guides heroes all over the world!*
At the same time, his nervousness about being so close to someone so revered—and admittedly, very beautiful—caused his heart to race. He tried to say something, anything, but all that came out was a stuttered, "I-I-I, um, y-y-you're—"
And then, in the midst of his panic, he tried to shuffle back to give her more space—but he misjudged his movement entirely. His foot caught on the blanket, and with a yelp, he slipped and tumbled halfway off the bed, legs flailing.
"Whoa!" he shouted, more out of shock than pain.
The commotion startled Seraphina, who had been sitting calmly, lost in
her thoughts. When Izuku suddenly moved and yelped, she flinched in surprise. Her chair tipped backward, and before she could catch herself, she found herself unceremoniously tumbling to the floor with a soft thud.
For a moment, there was silence. Izuku lay awkwardly half-off the bed, one leg still tangled in the blanket, while Seraphina sat on the floor, her expression caught between surprise and embarrassment.
"U-um… I-I'm so sorry!" Izuku stammered, his face burning with embarrassment. He tried to untangle himself from the blanket but only succeeded in getting more tangled. "I didn't mean to—! I just—! Oh no, you're hurt—!"
Seraphina, who had been momentarily stunned by the unexpected fall, blinked in surprise and then burst into soft laughter. The sound was light and melodic, and it immediately eased the tension in the room.
"No, no, it's alright, Midoriya," she said, still chuckling as she pulled herself back up into her chair. "I wasn't expecting that! But I'm fine, really."
Izuku finally managed to sit back up on the bed, though his face was still beet red. "I-I'm really sorry, Seraphina! I didn't mean to scare you! I just—" He fumbled for words, trying to explain his nervousness, his fanboy excitement, and the panic of being so close to her, all at once.
Seraphina held up a hand, still smiling warmly. "No need to apologize. It's not every day I get spooked like that!" She gave him a reassuring look, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Are you alright? That looked like it hurt more than it startled me."
Izuku rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, still wincing a bit from the earlier pain. "Y-Yeah, I'm okay… just, um, surprised. I didn't expect to see you here."
Seraphina's smile softened, and she nodded. "I wanted to check on you, Midoriya. You've been through a lot today, and I wanted to make sure you
were alright. You showed great courage during the exam."
Izuku's face turned a deeper shade of red as he stammered, "I-I was just trying to help… I couldn't leave her there…"
Seraphina's expression softened, and she nodded approvingly. "And that's exactly why you did so well. Your first instinct was to protect someone else, even when it meant putting yourself at risk. That's the mark of a true hero."
Izuku blinked up at her, his eyes wide with a mix of disbelief and gratitude. "But… I barely made it. I almost…"
"You didn't give up," Seraphina interrupted gently. "Even when it seemed impossible, you kept going. That's what matters. You pushed beyond your limits because you knew it was the right thing to do. That's something to be proud of."
Izuku swallowed hard, feeling a lump form in his throat. He had always dreamed of being a hero, of being someone who could save others. But hearing those words from Seraphina, someone who had dedicated her life to helping others, was almost too much to process. He felt tears prickling at the corners of his eyes.
"Thank you," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Thank you so much, Seraphina."
She smiled gently, her gaze warm. "You don't need to thank me, Midoriya. You've already proven that you belong here. Keep believing in yourself, and never lose sight of why you started this journey."
Izuku nodded, his resolve strengthening with every word she spoke. Her presence was like a calming light, easing his doubts and fears. In that moment, he felt more certain than ever that he could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As they sat together in the quiet of the infirmary, Izuku suddenly realized something. "Um, Seraphina?" he asked, his voice tentative.
"Yes, Midoriya?" she responded, her tone still warm and reassuring.
Izuku hesitated for a moment, trying to find the right words. "H-how did you know my name? I mean… I don't remember introducing myself during the exam or anything."
Seraphina raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "Oh, that's what you're wondering about?"
Izuku nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed. He had been so caught up in everything else that the question had only just dawned on him. "Y-Yeah, I guess I just… I was curious."
Seraphina leaned in slightly, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well," she began, lowering her voice as if sharing a secret, "maybe I have my ways… I do keep an eye on promising heroes, after all."
Izuku's eyes widened in surprise, his mind racing. "R-Really? You mean, you… you've been watching me?!"
Seraphina chuckled softly at his flustered reaction, shaking her head. "Not quite like that, Midoriya." She paused, enjoying his adorably confused expression before continuing. "Actually, I overheard your name during the exam… and, well, Toshinori told me a lot about you."
Izuku froze the moment she mentioned Toshinori. His mind immediately jumped to *One For All*—the secret he had been entrusted with by All Might. Panic started to bubble up inside him again, and he blurted out, "Y-you know about One For All?!"
Seeing the fear and anxiety flash across his face, Seraphina quickly placed a gentle hand on his arm. "Midoriya, calm down," she said softly, her tone soothing. "Yes, I know about One For All. Toshinori—All Might—told me
about it long before he met you."
Izuku's heart was still pounding, but her words slowly started to sink in. "So… you've known… all this time?" he asked shakily.
Seraphina nodded, her expression kind. "Yes, I've known. But you don't need to worry. This isn't something you need to carry alone. All Might trusted me with this information, and now, he trusts you with it too. You're doing just fine, Midoriya."
Izuku stared at her, trying to absorb everything she was saying. The panic that had gripped him moments before began to ease, and he let out a shaky breath. "So… All Might told you… about me?"
Seraphina smiled. "He did. He speaks very highly of you, you know. He believes in you—just like I do."
Izuku felt a wave of relief wash over him, but at the same time, a new sense of responsibility settled in. "I… I just don't want to let him down," he said quietly. "Or you… or anyone."
"You won't," Seraphina said confidently. "You've already shown that you have what it takes to be a true hero. Just keep being yourself, and remember that you have people who believe in you—people who are here to support you."
Izuku nodded, feeling more grounded now. The weight of One For All still pressed on his shoulders, but it didn't feel as heavy as before. Knowing that Seraphina knew—and that she was there to help him—made all the difference.
Just then, the door to the infirmary opened, and Toshinori Yagi—All Might in his true form—stepped inside. His tall, lanky figure seemed even more worn than usual, but his smile was as warm as ever.
"Ah, young Midoriya!" Toshinori greeted, his voice filled with relief. "I see
you're awake—and in very good company, no less!"
Izuku, still processing everything Seraphina had just told him, looked up at his mentor with wide eyes. "A-All Might!" he exclaimed, momentarily forgetting the formalities. But as soon as the excitement hit, a wave of guilt followed. His face fell, and he lowered his gaze to the floor. "I… I'm so sorry, All Might," he muttered, his voice heavy with regret. "I-I think I failed the exam… I didn't get enough points, and I… I let you down."
Toshinori's smile faltered slightly, and he exchanged a look with Seraphina. The two of them seemed to communicate without words, both understanding the boy's burden and the need to ease it.
After a moment, Toshinori placed a reassuring hand on Izuku's shoulder. "Young Midoriya," he began gently, "you didn't let me down. Far from it. What you did during the exam was beyond anything I could have expected."
Izuku looked up, confusion and doubt etched into his face. "But… the points…"
Seraphina stepped in, her voice calm and soothing. "Points aren't everything, Midoriya. You showed us something much more important—what it truly means to be a hero. You acted selflessly, without hesitation. That's worth more than any points."
Izuku blinked, trying to process their words. "But… I…"
Toshinori chuckled, giving his shoulder a gentle squeeze. "Listen to her, my boy. You've done more than enough. Now, it's time to let yourself rest. You've earned it."
Seraphina smiled warmly at Izuku, placing a gentle finger on his nose. A soft golden glow radiated from her fingertip, and instantly, the aches and pains that still lingered in Izuku's body disappeared. But it wasn't just the healing energy that caused a reaction—Izuku's eyes crossed as he tried to
focus on her finger, and the unexpected touch to his nose sent a jolt through him.
"Ah! Wh-What?!" he exclaimed, flailing slightly in surprise.
Seraphina laughed softly at his reaction, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Consider that a little bonus healing," she teased. "You've earned it."
Izuku's face turned bright red as he rubbed his nose, still processing the sudden burst of energy and relief. "Th-thank you, Seraphina… I feel… amazing!"
Toshinori chuckled at the sight. "She's full of surprises, isn't she, young Midoriya?"
Seraphina winked at Toshinori before turning back to Izuku. "You'll need your strength for the journey ahead, Midoriya. Just make sure you don't overdo it. And remember, the strength that truly matters comes from within."
Izuku nodded fervently, feeling a renewed sense of energy and determination. "I won't forget! Thank you again, Seraphina. I'll do my best to live up to your expectations!"
"We know you will," Toshinori added, his voice filled with pride.
Seraphina stood, ready to leave the room. But before she did, she gave Izuku one last, gentle smile. "Rest well, Midoriya. You've earned it."
As the door closed behind Seraphina, the room settled into a peaceful quiet. Izuku's heart still fluttered from the whirlwind of emotions that had filled the past few minutes. He could still feel the faint warmth of Seraphina's touch on his nose, the soothing sensation that had washed away his aches and pains.
Toshinori sat beside him, the quiet presence of the former No. 1 Hero grounding the room. For a moment, they simply sat in companionable silence, both of them reflecting on the events of the day.
Finally, Izuku broke the silence, his voice soft but filled with curiosity. "All Might… Seraphina is really amazing, isn't she?"
Toshinori smiled, a warm and fond expression crossing his face. "She truly is. Seraphina has always been someone special—someone who understands the heart of heroism better than most. Her ability to heal goes far beyond just physical wounds."
Izuku nodded, his mind replaying everything she had said to him. "She… she really believes in me. Just like you do."
"Of course she does," Toshinori replied, his tone full of conviction. "Seraphina sees things in people that others often miss. She has a way of bringing out the best in everyone she meets. It's one of the reasons I trust her so much."
Izuku looked down at his hands, still feeling the lingering effects of Seraphina's healing. "She mentioned One For All," he said quietly, his voice tinged with awe. "I still can't believe she knew about it… and that she almost inherited it before me."
Toshinori nodded thoughtfully, leaning back in his chair. "Yes, I considered her as a candidate for One For All long before I met you, young Midoriya. She has all the qualities that make a great hero—strength, compassion, wisdom. But as you know, she chose a different path."
Izuku looked up at his mentor, his green eyes filled with curiosity. "But why? I mean… why didn't she take it? She would have been an incredible successor."
Toshinori sighed softly, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "She would have, no doubt. But Seraphina understood something important—
something that many people struggle with. She knew that One For All wasn't meant for her. She recognized that her role in the world was different. She chose to focus on healing, guiding, and supporting others from behind the scenes rather than stepping into the spotlight."
Izuku listened intently, his admiration for Seraphina growing with every word. "She… she knew that her path was to help others in a different way."
"Exactly," Toshinori agreed. "And that's what makes her so remarkable. She knew where she could make the biggest difference, and she followed that path with all her heart. It takes a lot of wisdom and self-awareness to make that kind of decision."
Izuku nodded, feeling a deep sense of respect for Seraphina's choice. "But… if she had taken One For All… would things be different? Would the world be better?"
Toshinori smiled gently, shaking his head. "That's impossible to say. But what I do know is that you were meant to inherit One For All, young Midoriya. Seraphina believed that too. She saw in you the qualities that make a true hero—qualities that go beyond just power."
Izuku felt a lump form in his throat as he considered his mentor's words. "I… I just want to live up to your expectations. To make you proud."
"You already have," Toshinori said, his voice filled with pride. "You've shown time and time again that you're worthy of One For All. Your actions during the exam today were a perfect example of that. You risked everything to save someone else, even when it meant putting yourself in danger. That's the true spirit of a hero."
Izuku's heart swelled with emotion. Hearing those words from All Might—and knowing that Seraphina believed in him too—gave him the strength he needed to keep moving forward. "Thank you, All Might," he said quietly. "I'll keep working hard. I won't let you down."
Toshinori nodded, his expression full of warmth. "I know you won't, my boy. And remember, you don't have to do this alone. Seraphina and I are here to support you, every step of the way."
Izuku smiled, feeling a renewed sense of determination. "I'll keep that in mind. And… I'll do my best to make sure One For All is used to help as many people as possible."
Toshinori's eyes softened with pride. "That's exactly what One For All is meant for, young Midoriya. To protect others, to inspire hope, and to ensure that the light of heroism never fades."
They sat in silence for a few moments longer, the weight of their conversation settling over them. Izuku felt more at peace than he had in a long time, knowing that he wasn't alone in carrying the burden of One For All.
Finally, Toshinori stood, placing a hand on Izuku's shoulder. "Get some rest, my boy. You've earned it."
Izuku nodded, his eyes growing heavy as the exhaustion of the day began to catch up with him. "Goodnight, All Might," he murmured, his voice already fading as sleep claimed him.
Toshinori smiled down at his young successor, his heart filled with pride and hope for the future. "Goodnight, young Midoriya."
As Toshinori quietly left the room, he couldn't help but feel a deep sense of contentment. With Seraphina's support and Izuku's unwavering determination, he knew that the future of One For All—and the world—was in good hands.
--
That night, as Seraphina prepared for bed in her quarters at U.A., she took a moment to reflect on everything that had happened since she arrived.
The memories flowed through her mind—the faces of the students, the determination in their eyes, the conversations she had with Toshinori and Midoriya. Each experience had left an imprint on her heart, guiding her toward the role she was now embracing.
She thought of the people she cherished—Toshinori, the students, and all those she had met in her journey. Each of them had played a role in helping her become who she was today, and she was grateful for their support and guidance.
As she lay down to rest, Seraphina felt a sense of peace wash over her. The responsibilities she carried were great, but she knew she wasn't alone. She had people she could rely on, and more importantly, she had the strength and resolve to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
She reflected on her conversation with Izuku and Toshinori. The young boy's earnest determination had left a lasting impression on her. His heart was pure, his intentions noble, and his willingness to put others before himself reminded her of why she had chosen the path she was on. Izuku's courage and spirit had reignited her own sense of purpose, solidifying her belief that she was exactly where she needed to be.
And then there was Toshinori. She had always admired his unwavering dedication, his unyielding commitment to being a symbol of peace. But she also knew the weight of the burden he carried, the struggle of passing on a legacy like One For All. It wasn't just about finding someone strong enough to bear the power; it was about finding someone with the right heart, the right spirit.
As she thought about the two of them, Seraphina felt a deep sense of responsibility settle within her. She was here not just to guide and support, but to ensure that the legacy of One For All continued in the right hands. Midoriya needed her guidance, and Toshinori needed her friendship and counsel. Together, they would ensure that the next generation of heroes was ready to face whatever came their way.
With those thoughts in mind, Seraphina allowed herself to relax, her body sinking into the soft mattress as she closed her eyes. Tomorrow would bring new challenges, new opportunities to support and guide those around her. But for now, she could rest, knowing that she was on the right path.
And as sleep gently claimed her, Seraphina knew that she was ready for whatever came next. Her journey at U.A. was just beginning, and she was determined to make a difference in the lives of the students, in the legacy of One For All, and in the future of hero society.
