I do not own the Boy/Girl Battle Series.
A/N I giggled making the title.
Beth is 16 and Josh is 17.
It was near the end of the soccer season, and combined with the rain and shouting and cheering, Beth became, positively, absolutely sick.
"Caroline said, "Don't worry, Beth." Beth glared at her. She was still wearing her pajamas and an oversized hoodie that her mom made her wear. "You'll get better soon," Caroline added."
Beth stuck her tongue out at her little sister, seeing her voice was still a little raspy.
"Caroline," Eddie's voice came. "Leave her alone. She's miserable enough as it is."
Beth sneezed once, then again, then again. Her two sisters backed away from her.
"Mom, I wanna go with them," Beth whined as Mrs. Malloy entered the living room.
"You are much too sick, Beth. You have to stay," was her response. Mrs. Malloy handed Beth a mug.
"What is it?" Beth asked.
"Ginger tea," Mrs. Malloy said. Beth took a sip and instantly made a face.
"That doesn't taste good." Beth complained.
"Drink. And you two, head off to school now." Mrs. Malloy said. Caroline and Eddie nodded and headed out the door, where they met the Hatfords. Eddie immediately took notice of a missing person.
"Where's Josh?" Eddie asked. Jake shook his head.
"He's sick, so he's staying home," he explained.
"Yep, Beth's sick too, and not happy about it," Eddie said.
"Josh probably got it from her, or the other way around." Jake said, looking off to the side.
"Probably," Eddie muttered.
Meanwhile, Beth was drinking her ginger tea and sitting on the couch when a knock was heard on the door. Mrs. Malloy answered it, and there stood Mrs. Hatford and Josh.
"Excuse me, Jean, I hate to ask," Mrs. Hatford started. "But would you mind watching Josh while I go to work today? I couldn't get the day off."
"Of course not! Come on in, Josh!" Mrs. Malloy said. At the sound of his name, Beth froze.
"Who's here?" Beth asked. Josh strode into view, sniffling as he went.
"Me," he said. Beth felt her face flush, but it wasn't from being sick.
"Hi there," she managed to get out.
"Hey," Josh said back. He was smirking, Beth was sure.
"Hey, what's up? You sick too?" Beth asked.
Josh sniffled. "Yeah, think I got it from you, maybe."
"Ooh, sorry." Beth muttered, her face even redder than before. She looked down towards the ground. Josh chuckled and sat next to her on the couch.
"I didn't say it was a bad thing, now did I?" He asked. Beth looked at him suddenly.
"Kids!" shouted Mrs. Malloy. "I have to go into town to run some errands. I'll probably be an hour at least. Be good!" And with that, the door shut and the two were alone.
"Um, I have to finish some homework, what about you?" Beth asked, looking at him.
"Oh, darn. I forgot my bag at home." Josh replied, grinning.
"Oh, like your house is such a perilous walk from here." Beth rolled her eyes. After a few years of living back in Buckham, it had become a common joke between them on how difficult it was to walk to each others' houses. However, the Hatfords and Malloys just lived right next to each other.
Josh laughed. "Wanna walk with me there?"
"Sure!" Beth says happily. They get up off the couch and put on their shoes. Beth grabs a set of house keys for her home and they leave on the dangerous expedition to Josh's house. About 10 strides later, they're already at the front door and Josh is unlocking it. They enter the house and Josh grabs his bag and soon they're heading back.
After they get back to Beth's house, they sit right back onto the couch. Beth pulled out her homework and curled up in the corner. Seeing an opportunity, Josh scooted a little closer to her.
After a while, after all their homework was done, Beth got up and turned on the TV and put it to a scary/thriller TV show on Netflix. Josh looked up from his art project and put it down.
"What one's this?" He asked, smirking at Beth. She blushed and slowly unfurled herself.
"The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," she replied. "I've been meaning to watch it." (A/N I actually really, really, REALLY, want to watch this show but still haven't gotten the chance to start it yet. :( hopefully I watch it soon)
"What's it about?" Josh asked. He started to put his stuff away and off the couch. He sat back down next to Beth, but a little bit closer.
Beth sat up a little higher so he could sit next to her. "She's a half-witch, half-human and on her sixteenth birthday she's supposed to become a full witch, but she doesn't want that."
"Oh, I see." Josh said, his eyes trained on her. Beth took notice and paused the show.
"I need to address this." She said softly.
"Address what?" Josh asked, confused.
"You! I mean, everytime I see you, it's like my face is on fire, and my stomach turns into knots, and I don't even know if you're flirting with me or if you're teasing me anymore and I-" Beth started but was cut off by Josh closing the distance between them. As he kissed her, Beth started to relax and kissed him back. Soon the kiss ended.
"You don't think I know how you feel? Bethany Sue Malloy, you have been stuck in my head since I was 11 years old. When you guys came back, I felt my luck change for the better. I never stopped liking you. I was trying to show you that my feelings never changed." Josh said to her. Beth was at a loss for words. She stammered then sighed.
"I hurt you. I jumped to conclusions and messed it all up. I don't deserve you, Joshua Hatford. I just don't." Her voice broke as she spoke.
"While that may be true, Beth, I still want to be yours, always and forever. Will you please be my girlfriend? Once more?" Josh asked, pleading in his eyes.
"What if I hurt you again? I wouldn't be able to live with myself." Beth said softly. Josh pulled her into a hug.
"We can make it work, I promise." He said. Beth let go and laid down. Josh was quick to follow her. Beth grabbed the remote and his hand. She pressed play on the show and snuggled closer to him.
"If that's the case, then yes." She whispered. Josh practically lit up with a smile. He turned to look at her. She was grinning. Josh reached down and soon they were kissing again.
All of a sudden the door was opening again. Both Beth and Josh both broke apart and jumped back before Mrs. Malloy would see them.
"Hi mom!" Beth hollered. Josh could see that she was biting back a laugh.
"Hi Beth, how are you two?" Mrs. Malloy replied, not looking up from the groceries she just brought in.
"Good, um, we just finished our homework and now we're going to watch a TV show." Beth explained.
"That's sounds nice. I'll be heading upstairs soon. Are you two feeling any better?" Mrs. Malloy asked.
"Better than ever, Mrs. Malloy." Josh said in response. He shared a quick look with Beth. She giggled. When Mrs. Malloy went upstairs, they both started laughing.
After they stopped laughing, Beth cuddled up to him closely.
"Now that we're dating again, does this mean I can call you Batman?" She asked, remembering a certain photo from a couple years back.
"Your pushing it Weirdo." Josh said with a grin.
"Ok Batman." Beth replied. After a while of watching, Beth started to doze off. Her head fell on his shoulder and soon Josh was fast asleep too. They were laid back by Mrs. Malloy, who had come back downstairs to get started on dinner. She grabbed a blanket and put it over the two.
When Eddie and Caroline said bye to the Hatfords, they weren't expecting to see another one in their own house.
"Mom? What's Josh doin-" Caroline was quickly shushed by Mrs. Malloy pressing a finger to her lips.
"Let them sleep." She said.
When the Hatfords got home, the phone started ringing. Jake, who'd already noticed the absence of his twin, answered the phone.
"Hey Mom, where's Josh?" Jake asked.
"Oh, Josh is at the Malloys' house." Mrs. Hatford replied.
"Ok, love you Mom." Jake said.
"Love you too Jake. By the way, there's snacks in the pantry." Mrs. Hatford said. Jake hung up the phone.
"Where's Josh?" Wally asked.
"He's at the Malloys." Jake replied.
"Oh, wow, that's so far! How'd he get there?" Wally asked sarcastically.
"Geez Wally, sometimes you remind me of Caroline. I think all that hanging out with Beth has messed with your brain." Jake replied hastily.
"As if!" Wally responded. Soon, all the Hatfords walked right back to the Malloys' house and saw their brother on the couch.
"About time," Jake muttered to Eddie. She was sitting a little bit away from the two and Jake sat right next to her.
"What?" Eddie asked, startled. Jake chuckled.
"Y'know, I wouldn't be surprised if he faked it just so he could..." Jake trailed off.
Josh grumbled.
"Don't go giving away my secrets." He said quietly.
Eddie laughed. "Oh my gosh."
Yayyayayy!!!!!! You made it to the end!!!!!!!!
