Chapter 7: The Martians Invasion

{A.N: Sorry for not updating in a while, but I'm back now. So let's get this show on the road!}

Everyone was talking about the crash that happened a day earlier and Bella was dreading being here due to the crowd surrounding the pit, mainly because Mina and her team were here as well. And from how Bella's own team were being cautious from being spotted, so were they.

'I can't blame any of them though,' Bella thought as she looked forward, 'with everything that they went through.'

"GET DOWN!!"

Bella didn't fully know what was happening as she was pushed to the ground. As she lost consciousness the smell of fire and burning flesh filled the air…

"Isabella!"

Bella groaned as she blinked away the smoke from her vision. She wobbly sat up to the flaming massacre around her, the smell of burnt flesh was everywhere it made her physically sick. Mina got her standing with the help of Hyde, Bella realized with horror that she could only see her sister's team and not her own.

"You don't die easily do you?"

"Well the same could be said about you."

"What is that supposed to mean Tom?"

Bella's eyes landed on Quatermain and Tom walking away from the fires with Arronax, Ripper, Skinner, Griffin, and Captain Nemo. Relieved filled her, knowing that none of them was seriously hurt or killed by the alien attack, but they definitely painted an even bigger target on theirs and Mina's entire team's backs.

-2 Hours Later-

"You were truly leaving as soon as you saw us there?" Mina concernedly asked.

"We were," Bella replied as they got ready for bed in the inn, "the moment that I saw you and your associates there, I figured it was a mission and well…"

Mina nodded before looking at her via the mirror. She definitely wanted to say something, and Bella knew that her older sister could almost read her like an open book.

"Does Mr Sawyer know that you are not fully human anymore?"

Bella blinked in disbelief at Mina's green eyes as she turned to her. Then guilt flooded Bella's system as Mina sat too close to her on the bed.

"How long have you known?" Bella asked.

"I had an inkling that something wasn't right with you right after we defeated…" Mina began explaining before her hand defensively went to her neck, "him…"

Bella had to shove down a growl as her sister continued on, "But it was your meeting with Quincey that confirmed it."

'Guess we weren't quick enough,' Bella quietly mused.

"It helped confirm things on my end when I nearly tore a man's throat out due to his heartbeat."

Bella froze. She was mishearing her sister. She had to be. Otherwise Quincey Morris' sacrifice would all be for nothing.

But when two red glowing eyes looked at her sympathetically when they should've been green, was all the confirmation Bella needed. And it hurt worse than any stake to her heart. It felt like her breakup all over again.

"Mina…" Bella began to quietly cry. "Why is this world so cruel to you?"

Mina pulled her sister closer as her eyes drifted to where countless lives were taken. She feared that she wouldn't be able to protect her sister from this.

Not without telling the others the truth about her and her alone.
