-Isle of La Lune-
The Isle of La Lune. An island where the residents take refuge since the 2nd Great War began. Massive attacks from the creatures of Grimm as they multiplied by the dark ooze spreading. But the island was one of the safest places where families are raised. The rarest part; the island always remain under the night sky.
It is a tropical land where refugees can walk around freely. But it is also guarded by those who are former huntsmen and huntresses.
A girl, blonde hair and age 16, was sleeping on her bed with a book titled "The Warrior in the Woods" next to her head. And a hand placed on a page. Snoring quietly. She wants nothing more than to rest.
"So much rain..." She snored as she turned around to lay on her back. "Where am I going...aww." She groaned. Wanting to stay in bed.
"Sis, I can't let you handle this alone."
"It's alright. I am aware that whether or not I will make it. I don't want this for her either. But if we want the world to be at peace again, the rest of us have to be prepared. I must lure Salem away to keep my daughter safe."
"I know it's selfish. I wish there was anything I could say to stop you from..."
"There's no other option. Get Sunrprite away from here. Raise her, and read her fairy tales like how you used to read to me." A red-caped woman with dark hair hands a blonde infant girl to her elder sister as she gives a metallic rose emblem to her daughter.
"My little Sunny. I love you, just the way you are. I'm sorry we won't have much time together." The mother ran her hand on her infant daughter's hair as she coos softly at the sight of her mother and grasped on her finger. But then her hand slips away from the infant's.
That was the last time little Sunsprite sees her mother before being carried off by a huntress. The infant cried for her mother, begging her to not leave her. But it was no use as the raven-haired warrior didn't look back and walks away.
Sunsprite, now a teenager, gasped in shock from the nightmare. Sweat dripping from her head. Breathing from the beat of her heart. Once she realized she is now in reality, Sunsprite calmed down as she felt relief to be a dream. But to her dismay, is another day where moonlight is still shown in the morning, and stay that way in the day, and the night.
But to Sunsprite, it is an eternal night where the sun can never be seen again. But on the other hand, the town of Rantan Village can be lit with lanterns. And relied on stone calenders to tell the time. And most houses are cabin logs. Then Sunsprite hears a small thud. She turned to see her window being hut by a pebble. She knew who it might be as she opens it. To her joy, it was a young boy her age with brown hair and sea-green eyes. Someone Sunsprite knew since childhood, Leon Rain.
"Leon?" Sunsprite then opens a window while still partially tired. "What are you doing earlier than before?" She yawned, rubbing her eyes.
"What are you talking about? Do you know what day is today?" Asked Leon. Sunsprite was dumbfounded to what Leon is referring to. Since clockworks were reduced to calenders. She shook her head.
"No, what is it today? The Lantern Festival or something?" She asked tiredly. Leon shook his head in response. "How come you forget your birthday?"Sunsprite shook her head as she still feels the exhaustion in her vessel. But then realized for what Leon judt said. "My what?"
Then Sunsprite looked at her calender, and found herself that she nearly forgot her own birthday. She is now 17. "No way." She gasped quietly. From the perspective of Remnant, teenagers who turned 17 are considered young men and women. Which is the coming of age.
"No way, today?!" Sunsprite closed the window and curtains and got dressed in a dark top and blue jeans. And leather boots. And tied her hair into a ponytail. Then Sunsprite opens her window again and slides down on a pole. To her surprise, Leon is holding a present. This brought a light in Sunsprite's eyes that shine on moonlight.
"Happy Birthday, Sunny." Sunny is a nickname for Sunsprite. At least that's what friends and family called her. "Cool, thanks Leon." She smiled and takes the present. To her surprise, it was a pen and a journal. "I know it's not much. It's for you to remember some good times. Maybe add some photos and sketches too."
Many would be offended for a pen and journal. Instead, Sunsprite beamed a smile and jumped at Leon for a hug. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Sunsprite squealed as she squeezed him into a hug. His cheek was pressed by hers. But he was used to it since they were kids. In their case, hugs are a sign of friendship. "You're...welcome...ack..." He grunted while still being on hold for a hug.
For some reason, Leon felt warmth in that hug. And didn't feel like moving away, even if the hug is too tight. His cheeks felt warm as he feels frozen on the spot. Sunsprite let go of her best friend. "This is so the best gift ever!"
Leon was still frozen. Dumbfounded to feel the jolt of lightning in body and mind after the hug. Sunsprite was a little focused on the journal she was gifted on her birthday. "Um, Sunsprite." He started.
Curious, Sunsprite turned around to look at Leon. "Yeah?" He scratched the back of his head, thinking of what to say. "I was wondering...Do you want to train in the mountains...like we always do? I think I could use something to chill out. Since we've been busy with our daily jobs." Leon asked.
They would go to Mt. Selene that has 2 peaks. There they used to train swordsmanship under Leon's father, who takes interest in teaching swordfighting. Some say he was a former huntsman. "Or anything you want to go. It's your birthday, after all."
Sunsprite doesn't mind going since they got nothing to do. "No, training would do. After all, there should be a meteor shower tonight. I want to see it. 17 years and we never saw it. They say if the stars fly across, it's a sign that something good will come in the future."
"Really? Let's go then, tonight." Leon said.
"Cool, I'm gonna help my aunt at the Greenhouse to sell some plants. I'll see you..." Sunsprite was cut off when a voice spike to her. "Kiddo, you should go out and have fun."
It was a woman around her 40s. Long blonde hair and her right eye is lilac, but her left eye has an eye patch. Probably from a Grimm battle the last time she fought in the war.
Wearing a half-brown, and half-yellow vest. And brown jeans. She even wears sunglasses. "Good morning, Aunt Ling."
"Sunny, you should have a free day today. It's your birthday after all. You did a lot at the Greenhouse, even if I didn't ask." Ling said. Much to Sunsprite's dismay because she likes working at the Greenhouse. "Aww! But it's too boring to not do anything!" Sunsprite groaned. Ling then ruffles her niece's hair. "I know. But here."
Then Ling gives Sunsprite 2,000 lien. Though they both earned a lot from working in their greenhouse. Ling thought her niece deserved more after years of raising her. "I can't take this." Sunsprite said, reluctant to take the money.
"Sunny, you did a lot. Buy something, eat somewhere. Whatever you want. If you need me, I'll be at the Greenhouse to water the plants." Ling said as she gives the money to her niece. And gives her a hug, "Happy Birthday, Sunny."
"Thank you, auntie." Sunsprite hugs back. Then she and Leon left to explore the island a little.
"It's funny." Leon said. Sunsprite turned to him, confused for what he mean. "Huh?"
"Your name is Sunsprite. But lived on an island where it's always nighttime. The more I heard your name, the more I think about the sun." Leon explains, thinking about an image of the sun.
"I'll take that as a compliment." Sunsprite giggled.
"Yeah. Anywhwre you want to go?" Asked Leon. Sunsprite thought for a monute looking at the pouch of lien her aunt gave her. Then she feels her stomach empty ad it growls. "I think we should have breakfast noodles. I'm starving." Sunsprite smiled.
"I am hungry too. Nothing feels more good than a bowl of noodles."
At the Ramen-Run Restaurant, Sunsprite orders her favorite, which is chicken ramen soup. When the waitress gave her the order, Sunsprite and Leon enjoyed their meal. Before they can pay for the meal, the manager stopped them.
"Kid, I heard it's your birthday. So it's on the house." Said the manager. But Sunsprite already paid for the breakfast noodles after insisting. But Leon beat her to it by paying it for her despite arguing.
"Leon, what are you doing?" Sunsprite asked.
"Hey, you're the girl of the day. I'll pay for it." Leon insisted.
"No way," Sunsprite pushed him lightly to pay for it. And before they know it, this argument turned into a playful fight as they kept pushing each other to see who gets to pay.
Seeing this, the manager cannot help but laugh to see kids playing. But he knew this cannot continue since there were customers around and cannot disturb their peace. "Alright you two. Enough. Just for today, the meal is free. No charge. That is final." He insisted one more time. When the kids were little, they always enjoyed the time theu have lunch.
Not wanting to argue with the manager, the two nodded in agreement. "Okay, thanks anyway." The two thanked him and exited the restaurant.
As the two left the restaurant, Leon turned to Sunsprite again. "Say, I'm gonna gear up for tonight's training. I'll see you at Mt. Selene." Leon said. Sunsprite nodded. "Sure, bestie. I'm gonna gear up too. Is your dad coming along to train us?"
"No, he said he will be fishing with his friends for today. So he said I should have time to myself. But I hate to admit, having a bit of "me time" is boring. But with you, it's not." Leon admits.
"Well, it's boring on this island without you. See you there." With that, Sunsprite ran back to her aunt's house to grab her gear for training.
At her house, Sunsprite enters her bedroom to grab her sword. Despite not wanting a shield. Sunsprite preferred to excel at her speed with just a sword. She had seen Leon using a shield before. In her opinion, while the shield is meant for protection, it might affect the use of the sword.
As she grabs her sword from the closet, she ran passed the kitchen floor. But then hears a creek on the floor. "Hm?" She blinked, Sunsprite looked down on the floor and sees a small square panel. "Huh." She said curiously.
She noticed that the panel was loose. She lifts it up, and it was a small compartment containing a small journal. It said the name, "Rose."
As curiousity got the better of her, Sunsprite opens the journal.
August 5, XXXX
This is my first time writing on my journal. But it's better than to tell someone in person without embarrassing myself. Today is the first day I set foot onto Beacon Academy. I felt my heart pounding seeing how big the school is. The courtyard, the ballroom where Headmaster Ozpin makes his announcement for new students like me.
I never wanted any attention. Sometimes I thought it was too much to ask for help, or to make friends. I should at least make a good impression if I had to. To my shock, when the inaugurations started, I was shocked to hear that being in teams of four students is required.
The first person I met in the Emerald Forest is a boy. I never expected him to be this friendly when we bumped into each other. But I enjoyed talking to him. Since then, I don't mind of he is part of a team we might end up in.
