Author's Note: This takes place in a happier AU post-canon AU. Thank you to the anon on my tumblr (aimportandragoncollector) who suggested a trioholders wedding as a fic idea.
It wasn't easy being known as the hero who defeated All for One before even graduating high school. Even U.A. had stopped being a sanctuary from attention after the underclassmen decided to idolize Izuku too. Reporters had gotten in several times, and an increasingly irate Principal Nezu suspected a student of opening the door for them. Izuku avoided his fame by hiding in the Void.
Ever since Yoichi had stopped trying so hard to be mysterious and impressive, the Void looked more comfortable. Each vestige still had a giant red-cushioned throne. However, Yoichi had added an enormous leather sofa, a big screen TV, and a shelf full of games. Shadows spread off into the distance and ate into the mysterious vault door. The vestiges always had their own private rooms where they could create anything they desired to enjoy their strange afterlife.
Today, Tomura sat on the sofa playing video games. After Tomura had very briefly stolen part of One for All, he'd obtained access to this place. Fortunately all the vestiges were back where they belonged now, Izuku had his quirk, and All for One had been stopped. Yet the connection to the tenth holder remained. Tomura visited the Void even more often than Izuku. It was understandable, since Tomura had nothing waiting in the outside world except prison. All Might had done everything in his power to keep Tomura and the rest of the League of Villains comfortable and get them therapists. Tomura went to the Void to avoid his therapist. At least he'd been talking a lot to his grandmother and seemed calmer as a result.
Tomura cursed and flung his controller down as his character died.
Leaning over the back of the sofa, Izuku asked, "Want to play a game?"
Tomura grunted, then went to settings and loaded up a two-player game. Slowly Tomura had been talking more to Izuku too. They got along when they avoided the topic of heroes. Someday, Izuku hoped to build up enough of a rapport to talk about more serious topics than which video game character was the coolest. Although Izuku had saved Tomura's body and removed All for One, he considered his mission half-finished until he could heal Tomura's soul.
Three games later, Yoichi's bedroom door opened. Yoichi stumbled out giggling and arm in arm with Kudou and Bruce. This was hardly an unusual sight. Izuku knew the first three One for All holders were lovers—he could hardly avoid knowing, since they loved PDA.
Tomura looked at Yoichi, with his arms around Bruce's neck while Kudou hugged him from behind. Izuku could almost see Tomura's thought process wondering if watching this was better than being in jail. Apparently it wasn't, because Tomura vanished.
"Ninth!" Yoichi looked over with a smile. "Did you get any love confessions today?"
Izuku flushed. Over the last week, eight of the new first years had confessed to him. The vestiges had been teasing or encouraging him ever since they'd found out. Izuku had turned them all down. Although he'd never say it to their faces, of course, he found it disconcerting that people who barely even knew him would confess to him. That was hero worship, not real love.
"Not today, fortunately," Izuku said.
"Don't give the kid a hard time." Kudou snorted. He inclined his head at Izuku. "Someday you'll find someone special. Don't settle until then." Izuku had come to realize that Kudou was like a porcupine, spiky on the outside but very soft on the inside.
Bruce laughed. "Big words from someone who fell for Yoichi at first sight."
"So did you," Kudou protested, shoving Bruce playfully.
Yoichi clasped his hands together dreamily. "Sometimes, when someone busts you out of a vault, it's fate." The three gazed into each other's eyes.
Izuku needed to keep them talking before they started making out in front of him. His gaze went to the silver wedding bands on the fingers of Yoichi, Kudou, and Bruce. "How did you three get married?"
The smile dropped off Yoichi's face. "We didn't." He fiddled with his ring.
"We couldn't have married legally," Kudou said. "But we mutually proposed to each other, and we planned to have a small private ceremony with our vigilante friends. Then we received word that All for One had found our base…"
Then they'd died. Izuku swallowed hard, regretting he'd brought up the topic. Yoichi's eyes were a little wet. Izuku, a sympathetic crier, nearly shed a tear too. It wasn't fair! The past holders had sacrificed so much to stop All for One and protect the future, yet they hadn't even gotten their wedding.
"All things considered, getting married was a low priority at the time," Bruce said. "Still, it would have been fun."
Yoichi sighed. "I just wanted to feel like a normal person for one day…"
On an impulse, Izuku asked, "Why not get married now?"
All three looked at him. Izuku flushed. "We can create anything we desire in the Void. We could easily whip up a church, or anywhere else you want to get married…"
"I've always wanted to get married on a space ship like Captain Hero," Yoichi said. When the others looked at him, he lowered his head. "You did say anywhere."
"Why not?" Kudou laughed. He got down on his knees, grabbed both Yoichi and Bruce's hands, and asked, "Will you marry me?"
Bruce laughed. "No fair! I was about to do that."
"Of course we will," Yoichi said, throwing his arms around Kudou's neck.
Izuku smiled, misty-eyed. Love that had endured for over a century in the Void was a beautiful thing. Then he had to turn away because the three were making out again. By the time Yoichi and Bruce had their lips locked together and Kudou was kissing their necks, Izuku decided even flirtatious first years were less dangerous.
Having come up with the idea, Izuku felt bound and determined to plan the perfect wedding. He met with the vestiges in the throne room. He'd created a white board in front of their thrones. "I researched weddings online. Here's the list of tasks we need to divide up. First: venue."
Yoichi raised his hand. "The space ship was my idea, and I've read Captain Hero the most times. I'll work on creating a location in the Void."
"That's a large task." Hikage sat with his knees pulled up to his chest. "I'll help. You read Captain Hero to me plenty of times when I was a kid." Yoichi rewarded this offer with a smile.
Izuku tapped his pointer on the next item. "Flowers. Do the grooms have any preferences?"
Yoichi shrugged. "I don't know much about flowers except which ones can be eaten when you're an orphaned child living on the streets."
Kudou admitted, "I never paid attention to flowers either." Bruce shrugged.
En raised a hand. "My parents owned a flower shop. If you give me creative control, I'm confident I can come up with an impressive display."
"Perfect, thank you." Izuku tapped the next item. "Food."
"I'll take that task," Nana said cheerfully. "It's been a while since I've had an excuse to prepare a feast. We don't need to eat, but we enjoy the taste."
Misty Might raised his hand.
"I believe All Might is volunteering to help you," Izuku said. "The meal and cake together would be a big task, so we should assign more than one person."
"Excellent. It will be like when I taught you to cook." Nana nudged Misty Might.
"Is anyone skilled at taking photographs?" Izuku asked.
"My turn to shine!" Banjo shot a thumbs up. "I used to work as a photographer for a newspaper. Heroing didn't pay well back in my day."
"It still doesn't," Izuku sighed. He'd probably never need to worry, due to his fame, but many of his teachers worked two jobs. In his opinion, low pay for heroes created incentives for them to chase fame instead of focusing on the job.
Banjo manifested a camera.
"What's the wedding theme going to be?" Izuku asked.
"I assume Captain Hero," Kudou said.
"It shouldn't be all about what I want," Yoichi insisted. "What do you like?"
Kudou flushed at being put on the spot. "I like…guns and explosives?"
"We can work that into the decoration theme." Yoichi turned to Hikage. "What do you think, my partner in creation?"
Hikage said, "Superheroes and weapons match well together."
Yoichi looked at Bruce. "What would you like to add?"
Bruce raised his hands as if pushing away any responsibility. "Design isn't my strong point. I have no preferences. I'm just delighted to be marrying you two, even a hundred years late."
"We need something for your tastes." Yoichi tapped his chin. "The orchestral music that you love would be great for a wedding."
Bruce perked up. "Yeah, I'll be in charge of music."
Kudou said, "Then I'll be in charge of creating the ballroom for dancing afterward. We can work together."
Izuku looked at his list. "You three already have rings. And I assume you want to use the same rings?"
Yoichi smiled softly as he twisted his ring. "The inscriptions on our rings are special to us."
"Then that just leaves invitations." Izuku bit his lip. "Do we need invitations? Only the nine of us can attend. And Tomura."
"Why not have them?" Yoichi laughed. "It's part of the magic of a wedding."
"Then I'll design the invitations," Izuku said.
"Don't overstrain yourself, you're already our chief planner and you have school," Bruce said.
Izuku smiled. "I'm happy to help. It will be fun. Now we must determine the wedding party."
"I'll be best man, of course," Hikage said. "I've known you three the longest."
"I want to be best man too," Banjo protested. "We've all known each other so long in the Void, what difference does a few years when you were alive make?"
Hikage glared. "I was promised to be ring bearer for their wedding, and after waiting so long, I deserve to be best man."
En raised his hand. "I'll never have another chance to be best man at a wedding. I want to be considered too."
"Do you want to fight for it?" Hikage growled. "I'll show you why I'm the only holder who All for One never caught."
"It's on now!" Banjo cried.
With false sweetness, En said, "You never fought All for One. You hid in the forest."
Izuku sweated as the tension in the room rose. Hikage looked about ready to rip into En and Banjo with his bare hands for the honor.
Yoichi clapped his hands. "This is silly. There are three of us, so we need three best men. All three of you will be in the wedding party. We'll decide who stands on whose side of the wedding party at random, since you're all our friends."
"Acceptable," Hikage said. "I want to stand up for all of you."
"I'm going to be a best man. This is cool," Banjo said brightly. "I can't wait to design my outfit."
En whispered to Izuku, "I'll make sure he doesn't look silly."
"What about me?" Nana demanded. "Do I not get considered just because I'm a woman?" A murderous aura rose off her. Izuku nearly suggested that Nana could be flower girl but he quickly realized she might strangle him.
Bruce said, "Nana, you should officiate the wedding. You're the only person here who has been married before. That makes you the closest we have to an expert."
Nana beamed. "I like that role."
Izuku looked at his list. "We still need a ringbearer and a flower girl. I could do either."
Yoichi said, "Actually, Izuku, I was hoping you would give me away. You're the person who defeated All for One. I would love to have you walk me down the aisle as one final way to spite his memory."
Kudou chuckled. "Yoichi decided to be the one to walk down the aisle solely because he came up with that idea."
Izuku's cheeks flushed. "I'd be honored. Thank you. That leaves us with two roles unfulfilled."
Misty Might briefly blurred into the shape of a ring, then a flower.
"You're willing to do both?" Izuku blinked. "Sure, why not."
Tomura glared at the cream envelope. "What's this?"
"An invitation for Yoichi, Kudou, and Bruce's wedding," Izuku said. "We were talking yesterday and decided to give them a very late marriage ceremony."
Tomura returned to staring at his handheld game. "I'm not interested."
"But you haven't even looked at the invitation." Izuku opened the envelope. The card folded into a popup of three silver rings linked together. "Doesn't it look cool? I designed it."
Tomura glanced up. "Sure, whatever. I'm still not attending some freaky ghost wedding."
"But Yoichi is practically your uncle!"
"I've disowned All for One."
"That doesn't mean Yoichi doesn't count as your family. And your grandmother will be officiating. We'll have dancing."
"I hate dancing. There will probably be more PDA."
"Please!" Izuku wailed, latching onto Tomura's arm. "You're the only person not in the wedding party. Without you, we'll have no audience. I'll have designed invitations for nothing. Please! Please! Please!"
"Aargh! You made my character die!" Tomura lost his grip on his device.
"I'm going to follow you around the Void until you agree," Izuku threatened. He scooped up the game and held it away. "I'll even visit you in prison. You'll have not a single moment of peace."
"Are you this persistent about everything you do, you damn brat?" Tomura stood up on the sofa.
Izuku leapt in the air to keep the game away. "Yes, I am."
"Fine!" Tomura wailed. "Give me back my game, broccoli-head!"
"You wanted to talk to me, All Might?" Izuku asked.
Toshinori waved at the chair next to his desk. "Please, sit down. I noticed you've been leaving campus right after school and you've taken a few days off. Is it because all the love confessions made you feel uncomfortable? I could have a word with the other teachers to reign in the first years."
"No, it's fine." Izuku blushed. "I've been planning a big project in the Void." Quickly he poured out the whole story. He sometimes forgot that Toshinori didn't have a connection allowing him to know what his other self did in the Void. The vestiges suspected that Izuku and Tomura had a special connection because the quirk had hit singularity after they'd inherited it.
Toshinori wiped a tear from his eye. "What a touching story of true love enduring after death."
"I thought so, too." Izuku smiled.
Toshinori said, "I could pull some strings and arrange official matrimony documents for the three of them."
"Even though they are already dead?"
"I have some connections to make it possible." Toshinori winked.
"They would love that! Thank you."
"It's my way of contributing. Though, I must admit, I'm doing this partly because it gives me great glee to imagine how angry All for One would be."
Izuku laughed. "I think that's part of the motivation for the grooms too."
About two hours before the wedding, as Izuku checked and triple checked that everything was ready, he realized he'd never planned his outfit.
Fortunately, before Izuku could panic, he remembered that he could create anything he wanted in the Void. Closing his eyes, he imagined himself wearing a green suit with a matching bowtie. He made a few mental adjustments to the fit. Glancing down at his bright red shoes, he realized he'd forgotten to change those. He quickly swapped in black dress shoes.
With one last comb through his hair, Izuku decided he was as ready as he would ever get.
Izuku met Yoichi outside the door to the venue. "You look adorable, Ninth," Yoichi said with a gentle smile.
"You look amazing." Izuku meant it.
The trio had decided on a western dress style, in order to suit the American comic Captain Hero. However, Yoichi hated suits, claiming he found them too tight and restricting. (Trauma from his brother forcing him to wear them, the other two said.) Since Yoichi was already the one walking down the aisle, he'd decided to wear a wedding dress. Sometimes Yoichi got in the mood to wear dresses. But he'd never before worn one as beautiful as this gown.
In the Void, price was no object. The skirt had a mermaid tail style with thousands of pearls and sequins spreading down to the trail on the floor. The off-the-shoulder bodice had been embroidered with pearls, the shape of a dove in the middle. Sleeves made of pure lace in a flower pattern ran down the arms. Two teardrop diamonds hung from his ears and three layers of pearls wrapped around his neck.
Yoichi's hair had been pulled back into a braided bun with a silver tiara on top. Lace flowed over his face, failing to hide his radiant smile. Crushed diamonds sparkled from each strand of lace. He carried a bouquet of white roses.
"Thank you for arranging this wedding, Ninth." Yoichi looked misty-eyed. "I didn't realize how much I wanted it until now."
Izuku felt like shedding a tear of happiness too. "You're welcome." He offered his arm. Together, they opened the door.
Although Izuku had never read Captain Hero, he'd religiously studied the space ship scene, so he could say they'd gotten it perfect. The door opened into a round tunnel with reflective floors and polished steel pipes overhead. The giant floor-to-ceiling windows let in a fake view of the stars and planet Earth. High-tech guns swiveled down from the ceiling to point at them. Izuku would have been frightened, if he hadn't known everything in this room was fake. White tulips wound down the gun turrets. An explosion of red, green, and blue tulips decorated the window frames.
Kudou and Bruce stood at the altar. Kudou wore a tan suit with a maroon tie, his hair unusually tame. As soon as he laid eyes on Yoichi, he flushed scarlet. Bruce had to stick a hand behind his fellow groom's back to prevent him from fainting. Today Bruce had swapped out his usual headband for a fancy blue silk one, his hair hanging loose and slicked back. He wore a dark blue suit. Both grooms had a Sakura flower pinned to their pockets.
Nana stood at the podium. To fit the theme, she'd dressed like a space captain. (After all, a captain could officiate a marriage.) Her elegant white and yellow space suit had a white skirt to make it more formal. Her sailor's cap had a daisy in the middle.
En, Banjo, and Hikage all stood off to the side. Banjo frantically snapped pictures. His tie hung slightly loose from his red suit. Hikage looked uncomfortable crammed into a black suit. En's red suit had an adorable matching bowtie.
Tomura slouched in the sole folding seat. With a combination of begging and bribes, Izuku had coaxed him into a grey suit. To Izuku's relief, Tomura wasn't playing games or sleeping. He even looked a little impressed to see Yoichi's beautiful dress.
Hikage pressed a button, and a wedding march played from the speakers above.
Misty Might skipped forward, flowers winding around his flaming form. He tossed daisies from a basket. It was the first time Izuku had ever seen the mouthless vestige smile.
Slowly, Yoichi started walking down the aisle. Izuku's heart hammered with nervousness, even though Yoichi next to him seemed completely serene. It was a relief to him that he made it to the altar without tripping. Then he could hand off Yoichi and take a seat next to Tomura.
Misty Might gave the rings to the best men, then flickered over next to Izuku.
Nana cleared her throat. "We are gathered here today for the wedding of three dear friends. Their love has endured for over a century, and we all know it because they keep making out in front of us." Laughter rippled across the room.
A distant pounding came from the vault in the Void throne room. All for One's vestige screamed, "YOU TWO THIEVES CAN'T MARRY MY BROTHER! I DON'T GIVE PERMISSION! STOP! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!"
Hikage cranked up the music, and Nana continued her speech at a louder volume.
A sob made Izuku turn his head. His jaw dropped. Tomura was crying.
"It's okay to cry, it's a very touching wedding," Izuku whispered.
Tomura sniffled, "All for One's suffering is just so beautiful. His pounding on that door is sweeter than any wedding music."
Misty Might sobbed silent flaming tears too.
At the altar, Kudou said, "I do."
"I do," Bruce echoed.
Yoichi grinned. "Since my brother doesn't give his permission…I DO EVEN HARDER! DO YOU HEAR THAT IN THE VAULT?" The wailing got louder.
The three of them slid their rings onto each other's fingers at the same time. Nana said, "You may kiss the grooms."
Yoichi kissed Kudou's cheek next to the lips at the same time Kudou kissed Bruce's cheek and Bruce kissed Yoichi's cheek. Then Yoichi turned, with a giant grin, and tossed his bouquet.
Tomura ducked. The bouquet landed in Izuku's lap. He gaped. Tomura patted him on the shoulder. "Good luck with all your love confessions, hero."
"Dancing time!" Banjo shouted. He'd already changed his shoes.
The ballroom was in a giant dome that let in the stars overhead. The floor was checkered yellow and black. Decorations of guns and roses hung from the ceiling. Although a waltz played, almost everyone went for the food table first. The smell was too tempting: ricotta gnocchi, Chilean sea bass, lamb chops, fingerling potatoes, braised greens, and mussels. The wedding cake had ten tiers. Izuku was convinced Nana had used some magic of the Void to make it stand up. It looked like a work of art with fondant multicolored blossoms spreading down the tiers, a rainbow starting with yellow and ending in dark blue. The cake topper was three cats sleeping intertwined: white, red, and blue to represent the trio. The layers all had different flavors of cake: chocolate, vanilla, carrot, red velvet, lemon, almond, coconut, cheesecake, coffee, and strawberry at the very top.
The trio had decided not to have wedding gifts. There was simply no point in the Void. But when Izuku offered up the official papers of matrimony, Yoichi lifted him off his feet in a teary hug. The other vestiges also gave the trio cards with meaningful words inside, the best gift they could offer. Tomura gave a card with a picture of All for One beheaded, which Yoichi declared his favorite.
Holding a slice of coffee cake, Tomura nudged Izuku. "Thanks, broccoli brat."
"For planning the wedding?" Izuku was a bit confused why Tomura of all people would thank him despite being shanghaied into attending.
"Thank you for saving my life." Tomura's lips curved into a very small smile. "If you hadn't saved me, then I never would have gotten to attend this freaky ghost wedding or witness All for One's suffering. It turns out there's still more interesting stuff for me to see and do as long as I stay alive."
That had been everything he'd wanted to hear when he'd made the choice to save the crying child. Izuku burst into tears and hugged Tomura.
"No need to be soppy," Tomura grumbled.
Yoichi, Kudou, and Bruce finally took to the dancing floor. They started out swaying to the slow music with their arms around each other. This quickly turned into a sloppy make out. Izuku averted his eyes and Tomura ran from the room holding his cake.
But then, it wouldn't be a One for All wedding without some PDA from the trio.
Author's Note: This fic reflects my disappointment with how My Hero Academia ended. I don't have a desire to rant about it or ruin anyone else's enjoyment because I think it was a matter of personal taste. But I personally disliked the ending so much that it killed my desire to write more fanfic. This is the last fic that I currently have written. I may return if my disappointment fades or if I'm drawn by a cool fanfic event, but I make no promises.
However, my love for writing angst, crack, and platonic yanderes remains as strong as ever. I'm writing an original story about werewolves. I plan to start posting on Archive of Our Own (where my handle is katydid) in about a week. There will be: creepiness! Dark humor! Stalking and platonic obsession! Heart-pounding chases! Transhuman treachery! And cake! If you enjoy my fanfic then you might enjoy seeing some of my favorite tropes in my new story too.
