The doorbell rang.
"Himari?" Naruto asked his guardian, and she shook her head.
"It isn't a yokai, and it smells human from here." Himari could smell a human scent on the other side of the door. Her danger senses weren't particularly going off either, though they weren't the most reliable instincts in the world considering Naruto got kidnapped by Shizuku not long ago. Still, she picked her sword up off of the floor and kept it at her side. "It isn't the slut either."
"Akeno isn't a slut." Naruto stated as he stood up and walked towards the front door.
He opened it.
"Hello, are you Uzumaki Naruto?"
A duo of women his age were on the other side of the door, and considering the white ropes with a silver cross on their ropes, he could tell they were affiliated with the church. One was holding a massive bandaged up sword, which he would guess was 1 of the Excalibur Swords. Based on the size and shape, he would say it was Excalibur Destruction, the sword that held nearly the full raw power of Excalibur, but none of it's other abilities when the sword was split into 7 swords.
Holy auras on both girls meant both of them had an Excalibur sword.
Both were very beautiful, but he could really only judge based on their faces, which he saw eye to eye with. They were the same height as he was. Himari kept her hand on her sword hilt, but made no move against either of the girls. Both of them kept themselves out of the apartment.
"I am." Naruto stated slowly.
"I have a private matter to talk to you about. The Fallen Angel, Raynare, confessed to her crimes when she was captured... may we come in?" The blue haired girl asked as she looked across the room, and laid her eyes on Asia. She looked at the girl, and while her eyes held some form of comtempt in them, they also had understanding. Naruto could see conflicting emotions in the girl's eyes, and he looked at the other girl.
The one who refused to look at Asia directly, and she seemed to bare a sense of shame about herself.
Asia looked at the girls, and she shrank in her seat.
"Raynare, what happened to her?" Naruto was a little curious, since he had forgotten about the fallen angel woman. He had been the person who led to her being captured, so he wondered if she was getting the prison time she had earned for herself.
"She conspired with a devil to get a saint excommunicated from the church, and steal her Sacred Gear. Her crime was punished by beheading via a Holy sword, and her soul destroyed."
...
"... and you two are?" Naruto changed the subject, feeling uncomfortable.
"I am Xenovia."
"I'm Shidou Irina, and I just wanted to apologize to Asia... I said a lot of nasty things about her when I learned she healed a devil, and... well... she was tricked into it. So I wanted to apologize to her... can I come in?" Irina still couldn't look at Asia, but she introduced herself politely. Naruto stepped to the side and did allow both of the girls to come into his apartment.
"We also have another matter to talk to you about." Xenovia stated as she passed him.
'I have no clue what they are saying, why are all these girls speaking Italian.' Himari couldn't speak the language that they were talking in. Asia could, and she looked at Irina with surprise. Her eyes were lit up with some positive emotion. She looked at Shizuku, who had stopped everything she was doing and looking right at the girls with her eyes narrowed in suspicion, and clear distrust of them.
Xenovia's stomach growled when she looked at the dinner that was still sat on the table, but she took her eyes off of the food and looked towards Naruto once more as he closed the door behind them.
"This area is Gremory and Sitri territory, but we were given approval to do our job here. We were tasked with two jobs, the first job was to find the stolen Excalibur swords and reclaim them. The second job we were tasked with, was to deliver an apology to Asia, but inform her that sadly, her excommunication is still in effect at this time." Xenovia passed a letter to Asia, who looked at it sadly.
It would seem that part of her hoped that she would be accepted back into the church, but that might have been hope on her part.
"My apology is a personal matter, but the fact is that she did heal a devil, even if she was tricked into it. The devil in question is currently being questioned by the leaders in the Underworld, and if they get a confession out of him, then your excommunication may be undone." Irina bowed to Asia. She may have been tricked, but until they got a confession from the devil who tricked her, they couldn't justify undoing her punishment. There would be far too much unrest and anger directed at her if they couldn't prove without a shadow of a doubt that she was tricked into doing what she did.
Naruto had stayed silent.
"That was a bad apology, Asia deserves a better apology than that." Naruto stated to Irina, his face marred by a frown.
She nodded her head, and she took her robes off and placed them over the back of the couch. The clothes she was wearing underneath those clothes got a blush out of Naruto for a brief moment, and he looked at Xenovia, wondering if she was wearing the same extreme clothes.
Irina got down on her hands and knees, pushed her forehead against the floor.
"Asia, even though I didn't say it to your face, when you were excommunicated I said a lot of horrible stuff about you. I lot of people have a bad impression of you thanks to me, and I'm really, really sorry about what I did." Irina apologized, and it was a real apology. She choked on her words with tears in her eyes, because she really did feel horrible about what she had done to the girl. Her bad-mouthing Asia had spread around the false information that she betrayed the church and allied herself with devils.
She didn't know the truth, but she still spread around a lie.
"You don't need to apologize-"
"Asia, she needed to apologize. You should accept her apology." Naruto wasn't going to let Asia turn down such a sincere apology. Asia was a good person, and she wouldn't blame Irina for what she did. Irina was also a good person, and regret her own actions. The two of them wouldn't be able to move on if they didn't apologize properly, and accept that same apology with grace. Naruto put his hand on Asia's shoulder, and pulled her, before pushing her in front of him.
Asia looked right down at Irina.
"... I shouldn't have healed that devil... when I saw somebody was hurt, my first desire was to heal them. I knew what he was when I healed him, and he hurt people when I did heal him. You had every right to say bad-" Asia started to say, but Naruto slapped her on the ass. "-EEP!"
"Accept her apology, don't explain why she doesn't need to apologize." Naruto corrected Asia.
She bite her lower lip and nodded her head.
"Thank you for saying sorry, and I forgive you." Asia corrected herself, and Irina looked up at her as she wiped her tears. Naruto looked over at Xenovia.
"I never badmouthed her, but I did believe the bad things said about her. I see no reason to spread rumors, but I was among those who believed execution would be a valid punishment." Xenovia wouldn't lie, but she wasn't going to apologize either. "Good people died because of her actions, and I do believe she is a good person now. I understand her actions were done out of kindness, but she should not have done it." Xenovia wasn't going to apologize, but she wasn't going to demonize Asia either.
Asia felt worse about herself after hearing that, and she nodded her head in total agreement.
"We really need to learn Italian you know." Shizuku deadpanned, since at this point, there may be a lot more people who spoke Italian in the future. Neither she nor Himari had any clue on what was going on.
"Oh, I speak Japanese, because I am Japanese!" Irina changed the subject away from all the dark and dirty stuff. Himari was startled by the abrupt and random switch the girl did when she changed from Italian and Japanese. "... actually, I speak many languages. English, Italian, Japanese, and I'm always looking to learn new languages for my travels!" Irina humbly bragged about herself. Naruto nodded to her.
Shizuku had been startled by the abrupt Japanese as well.
"Please speak Italian so I can understand you. You know I don't speak your language." Xenovia made a only slightly annoyed request. She was happy that Naruto seemed to know Italian too, because he could communicate with her. It made things easier for her. "Now that the letter is delivered, I want to humbly request your help." Xenovia asked.
Naruto crossed his arms.
"No."
"Can you please here us out?"
"Am I going to be involved with any violence, or anything that requires me to hurt somebody?" Naruto asked with a stern tone.
"We wish for your help as a Demon Slayer, because the man who stole the swords from us is named Kokabiel, one of the leaders of the Fallen Angels. He stole several Excalibur swords, and we will need all the help we can get taking them back." Xenovia spoke in a very formal, but polite way. She seemed annoyed by his instant no, but Naruto didn't relent on that.
"Ask Rias Gremory for help then."
"I would never ask a devil for help. It's bad another the owner of the Boosted Gear is too weak to help us."
"Who?" Naruto asked with a deadpan.
"My childhood friend Issei! We visited him before coming here, and he knows about his Sacred Gear now... but he was way too weak to help us take down Kokabiel, but you're an Uzumaki. You have the power to make us stronger during battle, right... you can share your power with us." Irina knew of the Uzumaki and their demon slaying ways. She knew that Naruto would be able to enhance their swords, and he could enhance their bodies to make it easier for them to fight against the enemy they had to defeat.
Himari was alerted when the Uzumaki name was stated, and when Rias' name was put forward as well. She didn't need Italian to know those names, and she looked at Shizuku again, who was following the conversation, not based on words, but based on emotion. Naruto seemed upset by something as the girls spoke.
"It isn't my business."
"I know, we're asking a lot of you. You don't have any obligation to help us... but the church that Raynare stayed in was too damaged for us to stay there. We have nowhere to go. Can we talk about this more tomorrow. Even if you don't want to fight, if you could make us stronger, we can do the fighting." Xenovia pleaded politely.
Her stomach growled again, followed by Irina's stomach screaming at her for food. The two girls hadn't eaten in awhile, and they were both very hungry. Naruto looked at the food on the table, and how Shizuku always made enough for second helpings and leftovers. He looked at the girls again.
"Here, eat dinner with us, and you can stay the night. I've only ever used my ability to make things stronger on a butter knife though, so I don't even know if I can make you stronger. I'm can't help you, because I'm not strong... Himari, the cat girl there, is the one who I rely on to protect me." Naruto was honest with them.
Xenovia didn't believe him.
"You're a liar, your eyes tell me a different story." Xenovia sat down at the dinner table, and Shizuku served her a plate as Irina sat down next to her. Himari was alerted to something in their talk by the sound of her own name.
"I really wish you all would just speak in Japanese." Himari complained.
"I'm not lying though, I don't think I can help you."
"You're lying to yourself then, because Irina told me about this girl she played with as a kid, her name was Karin Uzumaki, and she had the power to heal people. If you have healing powers, you aren't some useless guy." Xenovia could see strength of character behind his eyes. She couldn't judge his actual combat strength, but she could see a heart strong enough to handle hardship in him.
"How is Karin by the way, when I was studying under my Dad, we traveled all over Japan before going to Europe?" Irina was a well travelled girl it seemed.
...
"She died, and I don't want to talk about it. So please drop it." Naruto stated, and with that the conversation was over. Irina looked down at the food on her plate sadly, but still said a prayer and started to eat. She added a second prayer for Karin. "Tomorrow, we can talk more if you want."
"Tomorrow, we need to tell the Gremory heir we will be doing business here, and then we can talk. You might not think you can help us, but I'm sure you would be a valuable ally. Demon slayers are allies to humanity, aren't you?" Xenovia questioned him.
Naruto ignored her and left the room.
"He's sad about his cousins dying... he's the last member of his clan now, and he doesn't like violence, but he's a really good guy! He even took me in when nobody would help me, and now he's teaching me Japanese so I can go to school. I'll talk to him tomorrow and try to convince him to help you!" Asia spoke with Xenovia and Irina with a large smile on her face.
She finally had people that she could speak to that weren't devils, because Naruto was almost never able to make a ton of time to talk to her. She was pretty much forced into a life of not talking much to people simply because she didn't understand what anyone was saying, and she felt uncomfortable around the people who did understand her language (other than Naruto). It was awkward being at home with Shizuku all day, when the girl didn't speak any Italian.
She liked to talk to people, and listen to them.
"He took you in, he does seem like a nice guy."
"He even saved your friend Issei's life when he was attacked by Raynare too, Issei almost died and got revived as a devil, but Naruto healed Issei... even though he got really hurt doing it. I heard about that from... one of Naruto's friends." Asia had learned about the story from Akeno, since it happened before Naruto and her had met each other.
"Oh! I need to thank Naruto then for saving Issei from a fate worse than death!"
"Yeah, now Issei summons Rias Gremory a lot though."
"I need to go and kick Issei in the balls, and teach him why summoning devils is a bad thing tomorrow!" Irina, just as cheerfully, said that as she ate. She went from wanting to thank Naruto, to wanting to punish Issei.
"Violence against your childhood friend is not the answer." Xenovia stated. "Still, you should tell him what will happen to his soul if he keeps doing what he does, and doesn't repent for it." Xenovia knew that summoning devils never ended well for the one doing the summoning. It would be better for Issei if he stopped that, and made an effort to try and get forgiven for his actions.
Irina nodded.
"I'm still going to kick his balls though, can you believe he thought I was a boy growing up!?"
"I absolutely can, I've seen pictures of you as a kid, and you looked like a boy."
"YOU TOO!?"
"I really wish these two would speak Japanese." Himari hated that she didn't know what anyone in the room was saying.
Was this how Asia felt all the time?
