Chapter 2: Falldin Town
"Human... Don't you know how to greet someone? Turn around and shake my hand"
It was him. There was no mistaking that voice. It was the comedian himself. I almost wanted to kill him, but I reminded myself that I was on True Pacifist.I turned around. As expected, instead of the shabby skeleton greeting me, it was a furry-looking monster. They had big fluffy ears, white fur, blue claws, blue eyes, and some small blue markings here and there. He also wore a black and blue jacket similar to the one Sans usually wears but without the white in it. I also noticed a big fluffy tail swaying behind them as well. So, this is your reincarnation Sans? Well, like you always said to Frisk; Time to greet an old friend with a handshake.
I reached out and began to shake his hand. Upon contact, a volt of electricity shot out, making me quickly jolt from the sudden shock...
"Haha! The old joy buzzer in the hand trick! Never gets old! The name's Skele! Anyway, you're a human, right? Considering you're young and deep in the forest here, I'm willing to bet you just fell into The Underneath. I'm positive you would like a little tour of the place, so why don't we head off to Falldin Town, huh? It's just up north past the bridge here"
Skele, huh? Is that supposed to be short for skeleton? How funny universe, I see the pun there. Regardless, I have to make friends with him. Honestly, this new look is an upgrade. I wonder if Papyrus has improved as well... Only one way to find out I guess... As we walked past the bridge, I noticed a bunch of differences. For starters, there was no conveniently shaped lamp to hide behind, as well as no sentry stations anywhere nearby either. Does that mean that there's no royal guard? Or maybe it's been turned into something else? I would have to make notes for later... If this comedian isn't the same one I know, then he has no memories of my genocides. Probably because this is practically a new universe, so I haven't even reset yet. Guess I'll have to pay attention when I do to see what changes. Is there even a barrier in this world? Doesn't hurt to ask...
"Hey, Skele was it? I'm curious about something."I questioned."What is it kiddo?"he responded, raising an eyebrow.
"So this place is called The Underneath, huh? What exactly is the deal with this place as a whole? Like, the story surrounding it."
Might as well get the story behind this place so I can see what I'm dealing with...
"Well kid, The Underneath is a giant cave system that was carved in a massive mountain named Ebott decades ago by monster-kind. The reason why is that the apocalypse was happening on the surface, and monsters had to shelter themselves to survive. However, the exit to the surface was blocked off by super-advanced human tech. We call it The Barrier. Our head researcher Dr. Ding has tried practically everything to destroy or gain access to The Barrier. But he hasn't given up yet. I have high hopes for him. I mean, he IS my adoptive father after all. Gotta show him SOME support."
Wait, father? Sans has a father in this reality? Wait... THE MAN WHO SPEAKS IN HANDS! What was his name again? Oh right, Gaster! W.D. Gaster. Dr. Ding, huh? Could it be that Gaster was left unchanged? It's a possibility, but it wouldn't be the same one still. This whole story is becoming very interesting... Can't dwell on it too much though.
"Well, maybe there is a way I can help. I'm a human, after all, so perhaps this tech requires a human to operate it. That means I could help."Knowing Hypergoner Azzy definitely isn't the final boss of True Pacifist in this reality, the curiosity of who is, or if there even is a final boss, fills me with excitement. It would also save me some time if there was no final boss as well. The faster I can get to genocide, the better. Maybe this new comedian will be the only final boss! Will LV20 be possible before fighting him though? I'm not sure. There were no minor monsters in the red temple, but there were three boss monsters to make up for that. Perhaps there is a similar deal in Falldin Town.
Speaking of Falldin Town... Couldn't the universe be a little bit, I don't know, original with the name for the new Snowdin?
"Oh, I almost forgot to mention. We'll be meeting my brother soon. I think you'll like him. He's a really good engineer. Likes building escape rooms for the children of Falldin. Maybe you'll like one of them. They're a real ESCAPE from reality!"bum dum tss
Aaaaannnd there's the pun. Yep, this is definitely this universe's Sans. Although, he doesn't seem as punny as the one I know.
"Sounds like fun"I replied. Soon, we both entered Falldin Town. It was pretty lively despite that there wasn't a jolly Christmas theme to it. That was probably due to there being no snow though. But before I could check any part of the town out, a loud booming voice came from the distance. There was no mistaking it either. It was the comedian's brother.
"SKELE! OVER HERE! I'M JUST ABOUT DONE WITH THE PREPARATIONS FOR MY NEW AND APPROVED ESCAPE ROOM!"
Skele smirked a bit and laughed.
"Oh, hey there Tonn! Good to hear! Also, come say hello to my new friend here! They just dropped into The Underneath and need a tour of the place! Think you can help them?"
It only took one look at me for the taller brother to gasp in awe.
"is that... A HUMAN?! OH, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE A HUMAN!"
Tonn rushed over to me with immense speeds that I knew the skeleton versions of these two would not be able to keep up with. Now that he was closer, I had a better look at his appearance. He was definitely the same monster as Skele but instead had more spiky orange hair, orange eyes, and orange claws. He also sported some nifty black goggles alongside a very futuristic-looking outfit instead of a battle suit. What stood out the most though, was that he had the same red scarf that Papyrus wears around his neck. Guess the reincarnations keep some of the traits from the did Skele say his name was? Tonn, huh? Wait... Skele... Tonn... GOD DAMNIT UNIVERSE, THAT'S THE WORST PUN YET! Now I wanna do 100,000 genocides again JUST so you can reincarnate these two knuckleheads again! Regardless, I must remain calm...
"AHEM! GREETINGS HUMAN, I AM THE MAGNIFICENT TONN, AND HERE IN FALLDIN TOWN, I ENTERTAIN THE CHILDREN BY CREATING PUZZLING ESCAPE ROOMS FOR THEM, NYAH! THIS YEAR, I HAVE CONSTRUCTED MY BEST CREATION YET! DO YOU WANT TO HAVE A GO AT IT?"The brother asked. I see no harm in this at all, so why not? I have to do this anyway for True Pacifist. I nodded in agreement, and soon, I entered the escape room. And oh boy was it one hell of a room. It was massive! It had halls that just led into more halls, and rooms that just led into more rooms. It almost seemed like an endless maze. Not like that's going to stop me because I'm filled with DETERMINATION!
Well, this was a well-built escape room, I'll give them that. It's truly harder than those jokes of a puzzle old Papyrus made. This is a new obstacle I must overcome! Makes me almost want to savor the thrill a bit, but I must remain steadfast and closer inspection of the rooms, it seems that it's all more like a labyrinth. Every time I enter a new room or hall, I can hear the subtle sound of mechanical whirring. It's as if Tonn is watching me and actively changing the room to reflect its seemingly infinite length. Would explain a lot anyway... So if the walls keep changing, that means it doesn't matter which direction I go in. Perhaps where I keep being led is the end? That would be some classic reverse psychology method, which is more clever. This new Papyrus is very intriguing. Makes me wonder if those smarts are used in battle as well. Nonetheless, I must stay focused. The only option left is the room I keep being sent to, so my main priority should be that. And it wouldn't take long either, for I eventually found a small hidden button within the area. Pressing it, a hidden trapdoor opens from the center of the room. Seeing no other way out, I dropped down into it. Before I knew it, I was back outside!
"WOWIE! CONGRATULATIONS HUMAN, YOU SOLVED THE PUZZLE BEHIND MY ESCAPE ROOM! NYAHAHAHA! I EXPECTED YOU TO TAKE A BIT LONGER, BUT I GUESS YOU HUMANS ARE MORE CLEVER THAN I EVER ANTICIPATED! JOLLY GOOD SHOW!"
Tonn started clapping in excitement. Skele just gave me a wink and a thumbs-up for approval.
"NYA, THE KIDS ARE GONNA HAVE A RIOT WITH THIS ONE! PERHAPS KOIYNE WILL GIVE ME A PROMOTION!"
Koiyne? That's a new one...
"Sorry for interrupting, but who is Koiyne?"I asked."NYA? OH MY, THAT'S RIGHT! YOU'RE NEW TO THE UNDERNEATH HUMAN! YOU MUST BE INTRODUCED TO THE HEAD OPERATOR OF OUR FINE COUNTY! I'M SURE THEY'LL BE SURPRISED BY THE PRESENCE OF A HUMAN!"Oh boy. Sounds like this will likely be my first fight...
"Sounds good Tonn, but why not get some refreshers first? I'm sure the kid's feeling a bit peckish"stated the older brother. Skele smiled, and I gave him a stare of confusion. But he wasn't wrong. It's been a while since I last ate something. And that something wasn't filling either."NYA, YOU'RE RIGHT SKELE! WE SHOULD TAKE THEM OVER TO MELS CAFE! A NICE CAPPUCCINO SHOULD HAVE THE HUMAN PERKED UP IN NO TIME!"Tonn responded with enthusiasm.
So it was decided. Skele and Tonn would take me over to this Cafe they mentioned. Since we were still in Falldin, I'm willing to bet this is the replacement for Grillbys, and indeed, once we got there, it was definitely just that. The big difference was that this Grillbys replacement was much much more expanded... Upon entering I saw a sight that almost made me sweat but also filled me with much excitement. There were monsters as far as the eye could see, all enjoying their orders. I counted at least 100 different monsters... This makes the wait for genocide almost unbearable. Just the thought of killing them all... No! Stay focused Chara! Remember, the other routes first, THEN genocide! Priorities must be maintained. I walked in with the two brothers, sitting down in between them.
"Ah, my best customers, Skele and Tonn. The usual as always, I presume?"stated who I assume was the Cafe owner.
The usual? Let me guess, do these two always order the same thing?
"Not this time Mel. We have a special new friend who's going to accompany us to go see Koiyne. They're a human! They seem nice, so I doubt they're like any of the ones who trapped us here. They even offered to help if it was needed! But of course, we both know it won't be that easy."Stated Skele. Mel went a bit silent and just stared at me intensely.
"Anyway, it'll be a slightly different order this time since we wanna treat our friend here well. 3 egg rolls and 1 cappuccino please"
Mel nods and goes off to gather the order, which he brings back with surprising quickness. So they both get egg rolls normally? Seems a bit underwhelming, but definitely better than spaghetti and burgers. Like with the pie, I check the status of both of the food items.
[Egg Roll. Heals 50 hp and gives a 10 HP regen for 5 turns. 2 time use]
[Cappuccino. Heals 250 hp and doubles movement speed for 3 turns]
Both of these items were almost as good as the pie. If I'm to be fighting Koiyne or some big boss soon, I'll have to save at least the egg Skele and Tonn were not looking, I put the egg roll in my inventory for later. I drink the cappuccino and it is extremely refreshing. If I can steal from here in genocide, then I have a very good resource for items. But this also means Skeles' fight is going to be much tougher than , I guess that's another thing I can look towards.
"SEEMS YOU ARE ENJOYING THE CAPPUCCINO HUMAN! BY THE WAY, AND PARDON MY MANNERS, BUT CAN WE KNOW YOUR NAME BEFORE WE HEAD OFF TO SEE KOIYNE? I DON'T THINK IT'S VERY NICE TO JUST CALL YOU HUMAN ALL THE TIME AFTER ALL!"stated Tonn. Seems fair enough. Frisk didn't like being named Human as well. And I wouldn't want to either.
"Chara... My name is Chara"
