Author's Note: I do not own Harry Potter.
I still have no idea which house to put Violet in, nor how much/exactly I want to change the story. I know some things I want to change, as well as some conflicts/friendships, who to save, who not to save...but other than that I have no idea where this story is gonna go. Who am I going to put together with Violet? What's going to be her future profession? Is she going to be suited for certain tasks, what tasks, etc.
It's a hard decision to make. It really is, and while I have -some- idea about certain things, others are...meh. Subject to change. Like her romantic partner. I've settled on Gryffindor not being the right house for her, but...is Slytherin? Is Ravenclaw? That I have no clue on. She's very smartish (she is only eleven, but she knows what's likely to happen with the books/movies in her past life.) She still has her personality flaws, she'll still have her own issues to go through, but right now she's focused on changing what she can. What she has control over, at the very least.
In any case, please enjoy!
Violet tuned out as Ollivander focused on Harry first. After all, it was a momentous moment for any young witch or wizard, and Harry needed to experience it. Though she did end up giving him a smile or encouraging nod when Harry looked back at her. It seemed he was opening up to her, at the very least. Finally, though, it was her turn.
"Now, Miss Potter, which is your dominant hand?" Ollivander had asked. Luckily, she was also right-handed, and once it was raised she suppressed her smirk at the measuring tape flying about her body. She did draw the line when it tried to measure the gap in her thighs, however, leading the blushing old wizard to stop the tape in it's tracks.
The first couple of wands didn't seem a good fit at all. The Rowan wooded one almost caused the windows to crack and break. The Apple wooded wand caused a loud noise reminescent of a Mermaid's scream. Even the Ebony wand had caused a small fire to the small rug before it'd been snatched from her hands.
Dragon heartstring cored wands were outright denied by her hands, often flying out of them, while the Unicorn Hair cored wands barely reacted to her presence. They were almost down to the same amount of wands Harry had gone through before Mr. Ollivander finally had an idea. "Wait here, this one will be in the back..." and before the twins could answer he was off.
She spent a few minutes of waiting conversing with her brother, where she learned his favorite color, blue, and he hers, which was a dark purple or red, though she accepted dark green after a few moments of thought. As long as it was dark and jewel-toned, she didn't seem to mind any color, but she abhorred the color pink. Black, she'd stated, was a great alternative, as it went with everything. She'd also told him a bit about how she grew up, and she'd introduced Mimi, who had waved and nodded before tuning out of the conversation. They'd also talked about some trivial things, and when noticing Violet's anger about his situation, Harry had narrowly dodged his sister going to dark magic by avoiding it altogether.
"Here we are, Miss Potter. Apologies for the wait." Ollivander interrupted, "This wand hasn't had an owner since I've started, so it was quite buried. Here you are then, give it a swish. Alder and pine wood, pheonix heartstring core. Ten and a quarter inch, rigid. Quite rare, for a wand to be made of two different woods, but it seemed to be a failed experiment, until now, at least."
Blinking for a moment, the older Potter nodded and took hold of the wand, her magic settling inside her. Immediately she knew this wand was hers, and with a light swish the tip let out brilliant sparkles of a dark garnet and mulberry tone. Smiling, she let the sparkles go on, before swishing the wand once more. She bought herself a thigh holster, a wrist holster, as well as a polishing kit along with the wand, before chuckling when Harry jumped at Hagrid's knock on the window.
Harry seemed enamored with the snowy owl he'd received, and Violet gave him a hug, promising to write back, should he want to write to her. After being assured that he did, they parted with plans to meet up on the train, Violet telling him about the platform, but if he got lost to ask anybody he hears saying 'muggles.'
For her familiar, Violet had found an adorable kitten with black fur and bright blue eyes she'd named Midnight. She'd just reconvened with the Malfoy's, explaining she'd be staying at the Leaky Cauldron for the next month so she'd be reachable there. Not that Draco's new owl wouldn't be able to find her with just her name, though after a bit of begging Draco had been allowed to visit her, so long as they remained within the main street of Diagon Alley he could even visit unsupervised.
During that month, she'd explained her brother's circumstances to Draco, who promised to apologize. She even got him to admit that several muggleborns in history had been great wizards or witches, though it was begrudgingly. It came as no surprise that his father would be the first to disagree, but Violet had brought up several points in her debate with him, and had managed to make him open to if not being openly friendly, then at least tolerant or cordial with any muggleborns in their year.
It was a point of relief for her when he even brought it a step further, promising not to be too antagonizing to 'blood traitors.' It had surprised her, sure, but it had somewhat solidified one of her plans. If she managed to bring him to Harry's side first...though she'd also have to get him to be friends with Ronald. She hadn't been impressed by him in the books or movies, but his family had served a great relief to Harry, and Harry was probably her number one priority.
Unaware, Draco had been happily enjoying the sight of one of Violet's rare 'real' smiles at his proclaimation, staring unabashadly until she'd refocused on their conversation.
On September 1st, Violet found herself pacing after placing her trunk on the train. She'd waved at Draco when he'd arrived, a side glance at his father a signal that they'd come up with to mean she'd find him later, and began pacing on the magical side of the platform as she awaited her brother's arrival. Seeing the twins arriving first, she'd sighed happily, ceasing her worries when her brother came out shortly after.
After helping him with his trunk and Hedwig, she sat down across from him and began explaining about the Houses they'd be placed in.
"No house is every inherantly Dark, mind you. People say Dark Wizards come mostly from Slytherin, but many have come from Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Slytherin. It is a very rare Witch or Wizard placed in Hufflepuff to ever turn dark, but even that has happened. Nobody notable, of course, and their offenses were mostly minor. Mainly a poor choice here or there that led them to being arrested and labelled as such." She'd explained, before humming.
"Muggleborns face the most discrimination, however. Slytherin house members are mostly pureblooded, and Salazar himself wished to only teach those with magical parentage. It is rare, but muggleborns do get sorted into Slytherin, however. In our generation, well...I doubt any will. I could be wrong. In any case, Gyffindor was the house of our parents and their friends, save...well."
She'd talked briefly about the rest of her summer, and once Ron arrived she kindly smiled. "Just, remember what I said on our birthday and now, yes? And, Ron, was it? I'm about to bring my friend over for an over-due apology. Please, do remember manners," she'd informed, before leaving them to chat. A few minutes after the train began it's trekk, she came back with Malfoy, an embarrassed flush on his cheeks. He too, had gotten his manner's reminder from the older Potter.
"Hello. I'm Draco Malfoy. I'm sorry about what I'd said to you in Madam Malkin's." he said sheepishly, ducking his head. Ron looked confusedly between the three of them, before nodding decisively.
"I'm Ron Weasley." he introduced himself, receiving a nod from the blonde boy. Harry had taken a few moments, before holding out his hand.
"And I'm Harry. Nice to meet you. Properly, this time."
Violet, happy with this, had clapped her hands. "Now, boys, I'm sure you'll have your differences in opinions, but please do try to get along. I expect each of you will benefit the other." she said, and Ron had looked a little green at the gills, but had nodded and mumbled he'd try. Draco had to suppress a sneer, but had nodded as well, taking a seat next to Harry who was already at ease, seeing Violet happy enough.
"So, Draco is likely to get sorted into Slytherin, but if there's any choices the hat gives you, then you should consider them carefully. After thinking it through, I'm personally likely to either get Ravenclaw or Slytherin, but that's because my core values don't match up with Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. I can be quite cunning, and I am a bit ambitious with my future plans, but I also value my creativity and intelligence. As I understand it, Ron, your siblings and parents were Gryffindor as well? Are you assuming you'll be in that house? Or do you think you might like another house?"
Conversation like that flowed, if not easily, at least consistantly. Though Harry and Ron seemed to share a look whenever they'd notice Draco staring at one of Violet's animated talks. When Hermione showed up to ask if they'd seen a toad, Violet had simply smiled and said no, they hadn't, but since it was a familiar it would find it's way back to it's wizard. Luckily, Violet had already told Ron not to believe everything he hears, especially from people who are known for their pranks, so hopefully Ron wasn't too embarrassed by the soot on his nose. Not that she was planning on taking Hermione's place, mind you, but that Violet wanted everybody to get off on the best foot possible, and that wasn't going to happen too easily if she humiliated Weasley this early.
"I'm Violet, and this is my brother, Harry. This is Draco Malfoy, and that's Ron Weasley." she'd introduced them all after Hermione's introduction. "I'm glad to see another Witch so interested in magic and it's intricities." she'd even said genuinely, shaking the girl's hand, "we'll be the best of friends, I'm sure."
Hermione had left soon after, informing them that they'd be arriving soon so it'd be best to change into their uniforms. Leaving the boys to their own devices, Violet had taken her own to a compartment a few doors down that had some older girls in it, knocking and asking if it'd be alright to change in there for a few minutes. When she returned, the boys were just finishing putting on their ties, Violet going over to Harry and showing him how to do it properly. "There we go. Don't forget your robes, and Ron, I'm sorry, but please make sure not to get too angry no matter where you're placed, alright? You are your own person, and all that jazz." she said flippantly, twirling her wand towards her hair, where it plaited itself neatly in a half-plait.
"How'd you do that, Violet?" Harry had asked her, and she'd smiled a little bit, tilting her head to the side. "I grew up with somebody who had no experience with raising a girl. Left to my house-elf's devices, my hair would be left all alone, but I quite enjoyed having my hair up. So I asked one of my tutors for help, and she taught me the spell to use over the summer." she fibbed a little bit. "By the way...one of the professors, well...he's not going to like you. It's petty, but...our father used to bully him a lot, simply because he liked our mum too. Please understand that, alright?" she asked of him as they headed off the train with the other students.
Author's Note: Alright. I said I wasn't too sure...but I think I'm going to make Draco her love interest. Anybody else I'd pick is either too old or...meh...or the twins, but my other fanfiction is with them and I don't want to do another triad love interest so, Draco it is!
In any case, please enjoy, and if you feel like it, leave a review! If I get 5 reviews for her potential house, I might even decide to let you guys choose it!
