I can't believe they're going to let Saren get away with this! Garrus thought angrily to himself. He was a Turian C-Sec officer on the Citadel, a space port where most of the varied species in the Milky Way galaxy lived, worked, and stopped at for supplies and downtime. Like most turians, Garrus resembled a humanoid raptor. He stood about 6 feet tall, had gray scale like outer skin, a metallic carapace on his head, metallic blue eyes, and mandibles that covered his mouth. He donned a blue paint pattern that ran from his right cheek across his nose to his left cheek. He wore a targeting visor over his left eye along with blue and black armor.
I knew I didn't like that bastard but hearing he killed a fellow turian and a Spectre was unacceptable. I know a human Alliance Marine is trying to get his status revoked, but there's no way they're going to listen to a human, Garrus continued his thoughts as he made his way through the lower market wards to go speak to a doctor in the medical ward he had gotten information from during previous various investigations.
As he entered the medical ward, he saw a man who he recognized as a thug he had crossed paths with a few times holding a gun to a young woman with cropped brownish-red hair wearing a medical uniform and realized she was the doctor he was on his way to talk to. Dammit, he thought to himself as he ducked behind a counter and grabbed his sniper rifle, waiting for the opportunity to take the thug out. He then heard someone else walk in through the other door and saw two women and a man wearing Alliance uniforms. The woman in the front was trying to talk the thug with the gun down which distracted the man and Garrus took his chance to shoot him down. The other men that had been with the thug had started firing their guns on the group of marines and Garrus noticed how well the one female had handled herself as she dodged bullets and returned fire with pristine accuracy from her pistol.
"What the hell was that, turian?!" The woman tried chastising him when the firefight was over. "You put a civilian doctor at risk with that stunt."
"It worked and the doc is still alive, unharmed." Garrus retorted, as he walked over to them.
"Are you seri-. Wait, are you Garrus Vakarian?" She interrupted herself as he noticed she looked at him more closely. "I'm Commander Jane Shepard with the Alliance. I'm looking into finding more concrete evidence into Saren Arterius into the attack on Eden Prime and the murder of Spectre, Nihlus Kryik. I was told you were also gathering evidence. I need help to bring him to justice."
Justice, huh? That's something I could get behind. Garrus thought to himself.
"That's me. I'm happy to help if it means bringing that arrogant bastard down." He told her as he went to shake her hand. It was at that moment he took the time to look at her more closely. He noticed she had shoulder length fire red hair, large emerald-colored eyes, and brown specks that ran from her left cheek across her nose to her right cheek. They reminded him of the stars in the galaxy. His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the doctor speak up and noticed the young man with her was giving him a weird look and realized he must've been staring. He quickly turned his attention to the doctor. She told them that Fist, a high-level thug that ran a nightclub on the Citadel, was double crossing the shadow broker, an information broker with agents all over the galaxy, and had set up a trap for a quarian with evidence against Saren and a krogan was hired to kill him.
"Alright then, Ashley, go check in with Anderson and see if he's found out anything on his end." Jane told the other woman. Another young human female with long black hair. "We should go speak to this krogan. Urdnot Wrex, you said his name was?" She motioned to Garrus and the young man that stood next to her. He had short black hair and light brown eyes that had been looking at Garrus suspiciously the whole time.
"That's what I heard." The doctor replied to her.
"Wait, you can't be seriously thinking about working with a krogan?! They're brutes, the shoot first and ask questions later type." Garrus tried protesting.
"Then you should get along with him just fine." Jane retorted and started walking away.
That was a little uncalled for. Well, if I want to get Saren, I better follow along. Something about her makes me want to trust her. Garrus sulked to himself as he followed them.
Not far from Fist's nightclub, Chora's Den, they saw a krogan. Krogan resembled Earth frogs standing on two legs. They were wide set, had a hard plate on top of their head and a hump on their backs. This one in particular had dark, red eyes and his head plate was also red.
"Urdnot Wrex?" Jane questioned as she walked up to him.
"Heh? A human not quivering and approaching a krogan so casually?" He grunted at her.
"I don't scare easily. Now answer my question. Are you Urdnot Wrex?" Jane asked him. Wow, she's pretty tough and straight forward for a human, Garrus thought.
"That's right, but I'm busy so you can move along." Wrex growled at her. Jane asked him if he was busy tracking down Fist and that she had business with him as well and asked if he would help her. He reluctantly agreed and Jane told the other man who she called Kaidan to go find Ashley and Anderson. He tried protesting about leaving her alone with Garrus and Wrex. She reassured him she'd be fine and told him to go to which he reluctantly left.
As soon as they entered Chora's Den, they were fired upon by the men inside. Wrex flipped over a table for them to take cover behind, then went charging in with his shotgun. As Garrus ducked behind the table with Jane, he saw her pull out a sniper rifle and realized she was a fellow sniper. He saw her scope and take out her targets with precision and grace. She then pulled out her pistol and shot another man as she ran to get behind a nearby counter. Garrus couldn't help but admire her battle prowess. When the battle was over, they ran into two more men with guns outside of Fist's office. Jane convinced them to put their guns down and run off. Wrex seemed annoyed that he didn't get to shoot them. I'm impressed that she got them to agree so easily. Wrex doesn't seem so happy but he's a krogan, they usually aren't happy unless they're shooting people. Garrus thought to himself as they walked into the office.
"Well, hello there." Jane said as she pointed her gun at Fist, a middle-aged man, which caused him to put his hands up.
"You already killed my men. Just what the hell do you want?" He retorted back at her.
"There's a quarian with evidence against Saren. I heard you set up an ambush against her. Where?" She said to him in a firm voice.
"Ha. You killed my men for the location of a vagrant with useless data?" He laughed.
"If it was useless, you would've ignored her, not send men after her. I won't ask again, where is she?" Jane asked with her gun still pointed at him, as Garrus and Wrex both raised their guns.
"Okay, fine. The alley right outside the club, but you won't make it in time." He spoke. It was then Garrus saw a bullet pierce his heart.
"I never leave a job unfinished." Wrex spoke up as he holstered his gun.
"The hell, Wrex?!" Jane spoke up, annoyed.
"Were you done interrogating him, human?" Wrex raised his brow.
"Yes, but-" She started replying.
"Then you didn't need him anymore. We should go or else we'll find a dead quarian. Too bad it's not a turian." He laughed as he started walking away. Garrus heard Jane groan in frustration as they followed Wrex.
They had arrived in the alley in time to find several men surrounding a surprised and confused quarian. Her outer appearance was similar to most quarians. Due to being susceptible to illnesses and infections, they wore enviro-suits over their humanoid bodies. Hers was black with intricate patterned purple cloths around it along with a matching hood.
"Get down, quarian!" Garrus heard Jane call out as she shot down the man closest to the quarian. He and Wrex then joined in to dispatch the other men with her.
"Thanks." The quarian told them as Jane helped her up. "But why did you help me?"
"I would never leave someone in need." Jane told her. "And I heard you had some info on Saren."
"Oh uh, yes! I got this recording off a geth that had attacked me. It's Saren talking about an attack on Eden Prime. Apologies for my poor manners, my name is Tali'Zorah nar Rayya." Tali had told her.
"Great! You're coming with us to the Council!" Jane exclaimed as she grabbed Tali's hand and raced to the Presidium where the Council presided.
Garrus and Wrex stood behind Jane and Tali as the Council; which consisted of an Asari, a Turian, and a Salarian listened to the recording Tali had. Salarians were bi-pedal amphibian like beings with long bodies and had horn like cartilages sticking out on top of their heads.
"This is troubling indeed." The Asari spoke up. "We will revoke his Spectre status at once. I also think it would be fitting for you to bring him in, Commander. And in order to give you the necessary resources, we will grant you Spectre status."
"Thank you, Madam Councilor." Jane told her, gratefully.
Garrus stood there in awe as the councilors made Jane a Spectre. The first human Spectre. Wow, I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it for myself, Garrus thought to himself.
"Alright, you three. We have a turian to find and bring in." Garrus heard Jane tell them.
"Really? You're bringing us with?" Garrus asked in surprise.
"Of course, Vakarian. I wouldn't have gotten this far without you all." Jane smiled, as she led them towards her ship.
Well, this human is full of surprises. Garrus thought as he stared at the SSV Normandy. The ship was basically a prototype. The first and only stealth frigate ship of human and turian design. It was said to be a joint effort to improve relations between the human and turian militaries. A human, turian, krogan, and quarian on a human/turian ship. This should be interesting, Garrus thought to himself as he boarded the ship with the others.
