Toriko: Namu's Buffet

Chapter 21

"Meeting The Grandparents. Part 1"

The lights of Gourmet Town shined brilliantly despite the darkening sky. All throughout the city, people were eating and drinking, going from one restuarant to the next. But in a small little shop, there was a small, pink-haired woman in the process of closing her establishment.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

"Hello? Anybody there?" asked a tall, muscular man wearing a black, leather jacket.

"Ah," Setsuno said with joy. "Namu, my boy. Come in."

"Hope you don't mind, but I brought some friends." Namu looked behind him, expecting to see his new Combo partner and their feline companion, but instead seeing an empty dining hall.

"Eh?" Namu went back outside to find Tsubaki sitting on the ground just below the window of the Setsuno Dining hall. Her hands were covering her face, and Jujube was lying down by her feet.

"What the heck are you doing, Tsubaki?" Namu asked, with a mixture of concern and very mild annoyance.

"I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy." Tsubaki repeated to herself, her hands still covering her face.

"Would you relax?" Namu asked. "I know she's a great chef and all, but she's still a normal person like you and me."

"Normal?!" Tsubaki asked, in shock. "She's the second greatest chef in history! Behind only the 'Chef Goddess' Froese herself!"

"She-" Namu was about to speak before being interrupted by his Combo partner.

"I know Zaus is technically higher ranked, but I don't care! Lady Setsuno is one of my heroes!"

Namu looked around nervously, unsure of how to handle Tsubaki's panicked, yet excited state.

"It's all right, sweetie." Setsuno spoke in a calming voice. "By all means, come in. Bring your kitty friend, too."

"How'd you know we had a cat?" Namu asked, surprised.

"I'm your grandmother, Namu. I know everything."

A few minutes later.

Namu and Tsubaki were sitting at the bar of the dining hall as Setsuno was preparing Ingedients. Jujube was standing on the floor of the kitchen, looking up at Setsuno.

"That's quite the kitty-cat you've found, Namu." Setsuno said, noticing the almost cheetah-sized cat staring at her.

"His name's 'Jujube'. We found him on the Wul Continent when we were looking for the Inferno Pepper."

"Speaking of the Inferno Pepper," Setsuno turned around to face her grandson. "What'd you think of it?"

"It was delicious! Tsubaki and I both put it on our Full Courses."

"Oh really? I didn't know the two of you were sharing a Menu." Setsuno said with a grin.

"Oh, no." Tsubaki interjected. "It's just a coincidence."

"You two remind me of when me and Jiro-chan were young." Setsuno swooned as she remembered her youth with Jiro.

"It's not like that! We're just friends." Namu quickly tried to difuse the stuation.

"I'm just teasing, dear."

Setsuno looked again at the large cat beast who was now walking around the empty dining hall.

"You said you found Jujube on the Wul Continent?"

"Yes ma'am." Namu replied with a grin.

"That's odd. Why would he have been there?"

"What do you mean, Lady Setsuno?" Tsubaki asked.

"Jujube is a Leo Tiger. An extremely powerful beast from Gourmet World."

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!" Tsubaki was comepletely taken aback. Meanwhile Namu had a big smile on his face.

"HA! I got a Gourmet World pet too, Toriko! Not so special now, are ya?!"

"Eh?" A small, tipsy old man with a pompadour walked towards the Setsuno Dining hall, a bottle of booze clutched tightly in his hand. "I thought Secchan closed the dining hall already."

Author's Note: Hope you guys enjoyed the new chapter. Sorry it took a while. I was gonna do one on Thursday, but I was just too tired. I'm sowwy. Anyway, I'm planning on posting on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Got 8 years worth of stuff to catch up on. If you have ideas for Ingedients, or constructive criticism for my writing, I'd love to hear it :D

Also, I'd like to say Rest In Piece to Akira Toriyama, the legendary creator of Dragon Ball. Without him, not only would "Toriko" not exist, but shounen manga/anime as we know it today wouldn't exist. God bless.
