Chapter One
-"Steve had broken up with Lynn eight months ago.
-" The Valentine's weekend was the last straw for him. He didn't want to do yoga in public, play volleyball, or get a facial. He only went because Danny begged him to go. He said Melissa said Lynn had spent a lot of money and not to be an asshole and go on the trip.
-"Melissa and Lynn became friends and thought it would be fun to spend it together. Steve had told Danny shortly after he started dating Lynn that if you call that, he wanted to break up with her. He knew from day one that she wasn't the girl for him.
-"All those selfies on their first date. All the time, he wished he was with Catherine. She was gone and never coming back, so he decided he would pretend, and maybe he could get there with Lynn.
-" He was tired of pitiful looks, and everyone asked him if he was okay. So, he finally agreed to Ellie's request to meet her friend. She was no Catherine, but he thought he could fool himself and get those animals off his back.
-" He saw her maybe once a month if then. He tried to go overboard and pretend he was something he was not. He finally thought maybe he could get Catherine out of his head if he slept with her. That didn't go over so well; he had to get drunk to do it, and then he called her Catherine.
-"He knew she heard him but said nothing. The next morning, she found Catherine's engagement ring and threw it at him. He knew it mostly because he had just called her Cath during sex and threw the ring to show she was pissed. He did the honorable thing and lied, saying she wasn't a rebound and paid for a private dinner.
-" He stopped seeing her and made excuses saying he had to work. She always called and texted, which got on Steve's nerves. Everyone thought he had moved on from Catherine. He found some peace from them for a while from their constant nagging about getting back up on the horse.
-"Lynn didn't take the break up so well; she told him she loved him, and they had fun together and begged him not to break up with her. She was willing to do anything he wanted. He told her he was sorry and should have been honest with her long ago. He was not the type of guy to lead a lady on. He wished her well and hoped she found the right guy for her because it was not him.
-"Lynn still constantly texts him, emails, and calls. He should have blocked her and was about to, but suddenly, she stopped.
-"Melissa had told Lynn she needed to show him she respected him and stop all the calling, emailing, and texting. In time he would probably change his mind. Danny said he said you were fun, and he thinks you are better than his EX. Danny, on our side, we just need to play our cards right and be patience. That made Lynn feel a lot better because she would be Mrs. Steve John McGarrett, and no one was getting in her way.
Five-O HQ Eight months after the breakup.
-" Tani and Junior went into Steve's office along with Lou.
-"Boss, we have something to talk to you about, so please hear us out.
-"He said okay and raised his hand and facial features as to say get on with it.
-"Since you broke up with Lynn, you have been not yourself.
-"What do you mean?
-"You don't hang out with us anymore, and your eyes are sad. We are sorry that things didn't work out with Lynn, but you can't give up.
-"Steve thought to himself; they think I am sad because I broke up with Lynn. They don't have a clue.
-" Tani said a friend of mine told me about this app called blind date.
-" Steve said no, Tani, that's not for me.
-" Hear me out, boss. In this app, you don't post any pics of yourself before the meeting; you just list your hobbies and interests. If you find a match based on that, then you meet in a public setting. Boss, this way, someone is not picking you based on your looks.
-" Junior piped up. I think that's why you and Lynn weren't a match.
-"Tani hit him on the arm.
-"Junior said sorry, boss, for being so direct. I just thought she was with you because you were a Navy Seal, head of Five-O, and, most importantly, your looks. You are what a woman calls hot, and he smiles sheepishly.
-"Come on, Man, give it a try; you need something to do besides work said, Lou.
-"Tani said: Boss, I'll call you in case you want to get out early. If you say let Danny, take the lead because you are off tonight, we know it's all good. If you say I see you in five, then we know it is not working. One date won't hurt.
-" Steve knew by their faces they were coming from a place of love. Okay, one date. How does it work?
-"Tani said you tell me what you want on it, and I set you up, then give it to you. They decide on the username John506 for Five-O and his Seal team number. You get an alert if someone wants to meet you.
-" I already know I won't, but I try it.
-"Tani stood next to Steve and put in all his info and interest for him. Shortly after he got a ping for a request. Oh, look, boss, you got someone already. So now you swipe right and read her bio.
-"Let me see. He read her interest and said no, I don't bowl.
-"They saw Danny coming, and all left. They knew Danny wanted Steve to be with Lynn, so they left him out of this. Tani told Steve before leaving, we didn't tell Danny. Steve said good, and she left.
-"Hey buddy, what's going on? What the Three Little Pigs are up to, and he laughs.
-" Steve rolled his eyes and said that's not nice, Danny.
--"Sorry, and what are you working on?
-"Just doing paperwork on a case.
-" Hey, Melissa said Lynn, crying her eyes out over you and not understanding what she did wrong.
-"I told her it was me, not her.
-"Well, she is not buying it.
-"Danny, I am not going back to Lynn; she is not the woman for me.
-"Is there anyone Steve and he huffed and left.
-" Steve got another ding. It was someone who had the same interest in him, was also an officer in the Navy, and now works for the government.
-" He called Tani. Hey, can you come to my office?
-"Sure boss and she heads to his office.
-" I think I found someone I might like to meet. Tani was thrilled and said really boss!
-"How do I set up a meeting?
-" I'll show you. Just reply here. Where do you want to meet?
-" Steve thought, and for some reason, Haleiwa Joe came to his mind. Say Haleiwa Joe tomorrow at 1930.
-" Tani type, I would like to meet you for drinks at Haleiwa Joe at 19:30 on Friday. She hit send. Now, wait to see if she replies.
-" Boss, you seem nervous.
-" Steve said no I am not nervous. Just reading her profile made me think of and then said never mind.
-"He got another ping. He looked, and she said yes.
-"That awesome boss and good luck.
-" It was Friday night, and Steve put on his jeans and blue button down shirt and nice dress shoes. He remembers how Catherine used to tell him how much she loved seeing him in jeans, especially his ass and how it turned him on. He shakes his head and gets going, hoping this won't be a disaster.
-" He was early, the Host asked him his name, and he told him John506.
-"Ah yes, there is a lady sitting at the table by the window waiting for you. Your table has a waterfront view.
-"She was looking out the window and didn't see him walking over.
-" Hello, she turned around, and they both were shocked.
-"Cath, what are you doing here?
-"Hey, Sailor?
-"I could ask you the same.
-"Steve sits down and can't believe she is here.
-" Well, a friend of mine has been trying to set me up; I always turned her down but got tired of her asking, so I agreed to try it once.
-"No, I mean, what are you doing in Oahu?
-" Oh, I am out of the CIA now and have a job working security and intel for a big telecommunication company here. A friend of mine, Dad, is the President and got me in.
-"Why did you leave the CIA? I thought you were happy doing what you are doing.
-"I lied, Steve, I knew you had moved on with Lynn, and I didn't want you to feel sorry for me.
-"I thought about calling you but didn't want to be between you and Lynn. I am surprised to see you here on a date when you are with Lynn. Are you a player now? And she smiles.
-" Damn, he had missed those beautiful brown eyes and that smile.
-"Uh, I broke up with Lynn a while ago.
-" I am so sorry, Steve, but I knew she wasn't the right type for you.
-"That's not what you told me on that airstrip; you said she was nice girl and hoped it would work out for me.
-"Well, I didn't want to tell you the truth because you would think I was saying things because I was jealous, and you seemed happy with the candlelight dinner and everything. When you went upstairs to get your gear, she was very nasty to me. She said she made you delete my contact info. She found the engagement ring and threw it at you, and you took her to a private dinner that cost a lot for Valentine's dinner. You spent a lot of time together. You came home for lunch so the two of you could be together; you took her on Valentine's weekend and said that you had forgotten about me. You said you never want to see my face again. She said, I quote, you bitch better not try anything on this trip.
-"Steve was shocked. He had no idea she said all this to Catherine, and she never said a word.
.-"The waiter came. Steve said he wanted two glasses of wine, and he told him to bring a bottle of Catherine's favorite.
-" You remembered and she was touched.
-"Of course I did, Cath. Cath, it's not what you think about Lynn.
-" Then both of their phones ring, and they laugh and say the calls to the rescue.
-" Steve said what you say, we have drinks and dinner.
-"I love it, Steve.
-"They both picked up their phone, and Steve said Danny was on call and to contact him and smile.
-"Catherine said I will see you at the office tomorrow and hung up.
-" Tani, what did he say? Junior and Lou were sitting in her living room, waiting for an answer.
-" She screams, he is staying and having a good time. Wow, that's great said Junior. Lou said I thought he would be out there in two minutes.
-" I am so sorry, Catherine.
-" It's okay, Steve; I just want you to be happy even if it wasn't with me.
-" I miss you, Catherine.
-" I missed you too, Steve. If I could go back in time, I would do everything I could to get you to stay. Why did you join the CIA Cath?
-"It's a long story, Steve, and I want to tell you but somewhere more private. Let's enjoy dinner and catch up some, and I promise I will tell you everything now.
-"Okay, I will wait. I still have my house in Aina Haina. If you want to come by tomorrow for breakfast, we can talk.
-"I love that. So how is the team? They are good. I bet Danny hates me now. He doesn't hate you; he hates seeing me grumpy all the time. He constantly tries to set me up with dates. I finally had enough and told him to stop.
-"How did you end up on this app?
-"Tani, a team member, asked me to try it. She, Junior, another team member, and Lou came into my office one day and pressured me into trying it. I was going to say no, but they looked so worried about me that I said I would try one time. What about you?
-"My BFF from the Navy, you remember Sam, right?
-" Yeah, your bunkmate for years.
-"She got tired of me turning down dates and begged me to try it. Since you didn't have to post a pic, I said what the heck? You had the same interest as me, and being Navy and all, I thought it couldn't hurt.
-"Steve laughed. Catherine asks what is so funny? The two of us ended up with each other on a blind date app. I think the universe is trying to tell us something.
-"Oh yeah, what's that, Commander?
-" He almost lost it right there; to hear her call him Commander was one of his biggest turn-ons. They talked and caught up on many things except their failed relationship. Before they knew the restaurant was closing.
-"They left, and he asked her if she needed a lift. She said no, I will take an Uber.
-"My car needs checking out and a tune-up.
-" I could do it for you.
-"You don't have to, Steve, I know, but it's no problem. I'll wait till your Uber gets here. He wanted to kiss her so badly; being with her was flawless, and he didn't have to make an effort as he did with Lynn constantly.
-"Her Uber pulled up, and he kissed her goodnight on the cheek, even though he wanted to do more. I see you for breakfast tomorrow, right?
-"Yes, Steve. Goodnight.
-"Goodnight, Cath.
-"He got in his truck for the first time since she left, he was happy. He looked at his phone, and there were several texts from Junior, Tani, and Lou, wanting to know how the date went. He groups texted them and said he enjoyed his evening. He is on his way home now, so thank them. Tani types wow, boss, I'm glad you had a good time and you stayed out really late. They were firing questions at him. He told them he would have everyone over on Sunday and to enjoy their weekend and go to bed now.
-"He couldn't believe that Catherine was his blind date. He could hardly wait till tomorrow so they could have their talk. He showers and try go to sleep and just thinking about her had him on edge.
