Chapter 624 Heartbreak

"

By Monday morning, Jax's body hurt. He was stiff, sore, bruised and felt like he'd been in an accident. They decided Sunday that everyone should take the week off to recover. Even then, none of them would be at full strength, but with Piney and Sack and the other employees working some overtime, they could keep the business going. It didn't matter whose hands did the work; only that it got done. It was definitely going to cost more having to pay overtime, but they would still make money and there wasn't another choice.

Jax felt angry all over again at what Mickey Smith did to the club. That son of a bitch better stay out of his sight once he healed because he was punch him the hell out. If the guy had an ounce of brains left after getting his ass kicked down the hill, he'd clear out of town. He had to know that a club beat down at the very least was in his future.

"Since Sack is playing mechanic this week, my dad is going to help me at the store," Scarlett told him while she helped him dress.

"Do you think you could get me some more of these pants?" Jax asked. He was wearing the pants she'd gotten yesterday. "They're more comfortable than jeans."

"Sure. Same size?"

"Yeah. In beige, gray and maybe black."

"OK. I'll be a little late getting home. I'm going to pick up dinner. I was thinking Chinese."

"Sounds good. Can you get some of that sweet and sour pork, some of that barbecued pork and pork fried rice?"

"I will bring you an assortment of porky goodness and text me if you have any further orders."

"I don't mean to sound bossy," Jax said.

"I was just busting your balls. You are going to stay in bed and watch TV and take it easy," Scarlett said making it an order and not a question.

"I was going to read my father's stuff."

"Those stairs and lifting the box are going to be tricky with your ribs. I'll go get the box and bring it down to you."

Scarlett didn't wait for him to reply. She'd settled him on top of her bedspread with a blanket spread out next to him so he simply had to pull it over him. She'd propped pillows behind him and brought him his large 40 ounce tumbler filled with ice and water.

"Thank you," Jax said as Scarlett put the box next to him. "I'm really not helpless."

"Enjoy playing patient. It's only temporary and this is so much better than when you had stitches in your ass."

"Definitely better than ass stitches," Jax agreed. Would he ever forget the memory of Juice's fingers in his ass? Probably not, but it was either fingers in his ass or bleeding to death, so it was the better of the two options.

"My father will get chicken from Charming Chicken for lunch. Text him with what you want by 11:30 and he'll be by around noon."

"Thanks, Scars," Jax said.

Once Scarlett was gone, Jax dug into the box next to him, pulled out his father's scrapbook and continued reading. He was getting closer to the end of his father's life and it was taking on a darker tone. There were pictures of the MC and of him and his father. And then it broke his heart.

JT discovered Gemma was cheating on him with Clay. Cheating happens, but in the MC world, screwing your brother's old lady was an automatic kick out. You can't share a patch if a man would betray his brother by bedding his wife. It was that simple.

Jax had long suspected that Clay and Gemma might have been seeing each other before their whirlwind courtship and marriage less than three months after JT died, but he hadn't wanted to believe that of his mother. He wanted to believe that Clay and Gemma had turned to each other in their grief over JT's death. He'd been naïve, but it was a truth he could live with. Finding out about his mother's betrayal stung. He would never be able to look or feel about her the same way again.

It only got worse when he read that JT had proof—sexually explicit letters from Clay to Gemma. He'd seen some of the sweet, romantic love letters JT wrote to Gemma and they were so different from Clay telling Gemma how he wanted to put his dick in her and pump her brains out and those weren't even the really sexually explicit ones. JT must have been both devastated and furious.

Jax's fists clenched. He wanted to kill Clay and he knew his father must have felt the same way. Gemma wasn't a pawn in this though. She was as much to blame as Clay. At that moment, he found himself hating his mother and Clay equally.

Clay and Gemma knew that he not only knew of their sexual relationship, but that he had proof hidden somewhere. And then Clay sent JT into a Mayan ambush. The rest of the MC was supposed to be there, but Clay called them off at the last minute and later claimed, he thought he'd told JT.

JT knew that Clay would keep trying to kill him until he succeeded or JT got him kicked out of SAMCRO. He would have preferred handling the cheating issue with Clay man to man, but he was a club guy and that meant a club solution. JT had to bring this to the table. The brothers deserved to know the truth about Clay and the kind of man he was and he needed to be voted out of the club. That would hurt Clay more than any beat down he could give him.

JT said after taking the matter to the club and getting Clay voted out, he was going to divorce Gemma and take custody of him. The next church when he planned the showdown was only a few days away when he was killed by a semi.

Could Clay and even Gemma have been behind his father's death? Jax felt a cold chill sweep over him. He felt it in his bones. Clay killed his father. Now he needed to prove it.

He hated to make the call, but there was only one person who could help him.
