Chapter Two
-"He gets up earlier than usual and swims. He leaves at 0600 to go to her place. He knows it early, but he can't wait. He still had his key, so maybe he could take a look at her car and see what he needed to fix it. He gets there and lets himself in. He goes to her room, sees she is sleeping peacefully, and looks so beautiful. He wants to go to her so badly but doesn't.
-"He goes to the garage to check out the car and see how to fix it. He opens the glove department and finds the pic of them two they took at the beach house. She was in her swimsuit, and he was in his board shorts with her head on his lap. Both are so happy and so in love.
-"He figures out what he needs and decides to go back into the house and wait for her to wake up. He couldn't stand any longer, so he decided to cook her breakfast; he tried to be stealthy but made some noise.
-"Cath woke up and heard the noise; she grabbed her gun and entered the kitchen. Don't move and put your hand up. To her surprise, there is Steve standing over the stove, cooking eggs with his classic McGarrett smile.
-"Steve, what are you doing here so early?
-"I couldn't wait, so I thought I make you breakfast.
-"You know you are just like Doris when she broke in that time.
-"Well, I am my mother's son.
-"God, I was so embarrassed, especially when she said to me she hoped she was not interrupting anything.
-"Steve said. Well, at that time, no, but if she had been a couple of hours earlier, she would have.
-"It was because someone felt very needy all night, and Catherine giggled.
-" Hey, I had a rough day, getting boat jack and listening to Danny rant nonstop about me being a danger magnet.
-"I was stressed and needed my Lieutenant to help me get rid of it, and he winked.
-"They laughed; it felt so good to laugh together again.
-"Come on, sit down; I remember to make your eggs just like you like them, scrambled with cheese.
-"Yeah, but you didn't know that day.
-"I am a quick learner. Come on, Cath, you know, in the past, we never had time for breakfast; the limited time we had, we only got up for lunch or dinner to eat.
-"Yeah, you are right, and breakfast was not part of our time together.
-" They ate breakfast together. Steve's phone rang; it was Danny.
-"You can answer Steve; you know he keeps calling.
-"What is it, Danny?
-"Well, good morning to you too, Steven.
-"Why are you calling me this earlier?
-"Junior just told me about them setting you up on a blind date last night. That was the stupidest thing I ever heard.
-"Well, Danno, I am glad they did because I met the perfect girl and with her now. I got to go, and he hung up.
-"I can't believe he hung up on me. Lynn is not going to like this, he thought.
-" They finished breakfast and went to the living room.
-" He was mesmerized by her eyes. Cath, why did you lie and leave me again?
-"I never want to lie or leave you, Steve. I was forced to by the CIA?
-"What, what do you mean?
-"The first time I stayed in Afghanistan, I was lost, and I didn't feel like I belonged anywhere anymore. I got Billy killed and almost you.
-"No, Cath, that was not your fault.
-"At the time, I thought that. I felt everyone thought you gave me the job at Five-O because I was your girlfriend.
-"That's not true. You did an awesome job and were more than qualified.
-" I know that, but you didn't hear the whispers behind my back by the HPD officers, especially the ladies. I didn't pay them any attention because I knew they were coming from a place of jealousy, but part of me did wonder if it was a good idea. It changed us because I felt like I was a team member and no longer your girlfriend. It was not your fault, Steve, but it was how I felt. We never did anything alone anymore.
-" I'm so sorry, Cath; I never meant to make you feel that way. I took you for granted, and I didn't know it was then, but I know it now.
-" Back to the CIA. When I came back and had time to figure out, I was running and I miss you and our life together. I came home, hoping you still would want me, and you did. I was beyond happy.
-" Then the CIA came calling the day after Kono's wedding. They called and said I had to report to the local CIA office asap. I could drive myself, or they could come and get me. I asked why, and they said I would find out once I got there and to come alone and not tell anyone or my precious boyfriend would pay the price.
-"Are you fucking kidding me?
-"I went, and that's when they lowered the hammer. They said they knew about my trip to Afghanistan and what happened with you. You were still in the reserve, so they could have you court marital or put you in a black site for the rest of your life. They showed me the video of you killing Doris' old boss; they said you did it in cold blood. I didn't believe it. They said even if it wasn't true, they had ways of making it true and taking down you and Five-O.
-"They been watching me for years and knew my work in intel and as a soldier and the different languages I spoke. They knew I would be a great asset to their team and had a critical mission that I would be perfect for. If I refuse, they will take you and Five-O down.
-"I didn't know what to think; I wonder why you never told me about this CIA guy. We didn't keep secrets from one another. We both promised each other after I didn't tell you about your mother.
-"He held his head down. I couldn't tell you, Cath; I was trying to protect you from all my family shit. When you got kidnapped by El Condor, I lost my mind because I could have lost you because someone used you to get to me.
-" What happens next?
-" If I took the job, it had to be for four years, and they would set me free and you and Five-O. I couldn't tell you and need to give you a cover story. I had to decide then and it was no choice. I signed the contract and made sure everything was written into it. They didn't give me a copy, but I turned my camera on without them knowing and recorded everything.
-"That my smart girl. I hate lying to you. I want to spend as much time with you as possible before I go. That's why I want you to come home that night, but you were wrapped up in the case. I want to say so bad, man, takes that damn computer home with you or get someone else to track Sinclair for a couple of hours so I can be with you.
-"Steve held her hand; she was crying. It was so hard leaving you that day, but I knew you were safe; that's all that mattered to me.
-" You should have told me Catherine.
-"I couldn't let anything happen to you. As time passed, I began to make friends and found someone who said they could help me. I need to tell my story to the Director. They know she is a fair person, but it would take time. For the first time in a long time, I felt hopeful; it was about the same time I found out about Doris. I had decided to tell you the truth then, but when I saw Lynn and the romantic dinner, I knew it was too late for us. I admit I was jealous but had myself to blame. So I just focused on the mission and broke down after I got back on the plane. Your Mom just hugged me and said she knew you still love me. She knew me from day one. I said he moved on without me.
-" Catherine, I never got over you. It was so hard not being able to kiss and touch you when you came back to get me for my mom. I took you for granted, and I never loved Lynn. It was mostly to keep the animals off my back. I knew from the first date, she was not the woman for me. She is jealous, tries to manipulate me, and is always spying on me. She thinks I didn't know she was asking people about you what we did, and who I go to lunch with. I was miserable. I would have broken up with her long ago and should have. I am so sorry, Catherine; I let my pride get in my way and got angry. I never stop loving you, and I miss you every day you were gone.
-"Soon, I got my meeting with the Director. She was appalled about what that agent did, and he had no authorization. He did it on his own. The CIA doesn't blackmail people to join. Maybe they once did, but that was a long time ago. They then found out that the agent was the nephew of the agent who was killed. She released me from the contract and gave me some money to compensate for my trouble. No harm would come to you or Five-O. I would never disturb life and assumed you and Lynn were happy. I was never happy without you Steve.
-" I feel like an idiot; I should have known you would never leave me and lie to me on your own. I have known you for over half my life. You were the one who kept me grounded, and I could tell anything. I was a fool. Catherine, can we try again?
-"Before we do I need for you to be completely honest with me. Was there anyone else besides Lynn?
-"Cath, I want to try and get you out of my system, and I became a player. I slept with a girl I met on the plane; I slept with a waitress who flirted with me. I did all of this when I was supposed to be with Lynn. I hate myself because I thought I wasn't good enough to hold on to you. I didn't want to feel but try to forget you. It didn't work. I was always drunk and always calling your name. I am ashamed of myself. Let me make it up to you. You are it for my Cath. Do you think you can ever forgive me?
-"Steve, we can't fix what went wrong with us overnight, but I am willing to try.
-"That's good, real good, and he couldn't help but lean in and kiss her. She was the love of his life, and he would do everything in his power not to lose her again. How about we go hiking today? I love that. I go home and get everything we need and meet you back here. That would be great. It was hard for her to hear that he was with other women, but she knew she still loved him and wanted them to work again. They both had a lot of forgiveness and trust to rebuild between the two.
