The Unworthy Savior
Chapter 1
He was dead, alone in the darkness that he grew accustomed to. It's what he deserved, after all. He destroyed the lives of countless others for the sake of creating a world where no one can shed tears, despair, or ever experience pain.
But suddenly, the work of darkness lit up, a cluster of light flowed around him before rising high in the air, taking the shape of a brilliant moon. His black eyes closed as if trying to flee from the attacking light.
And then…
"Obito Uchiha."
Now known as Obito, the white-haired man fought to open his eyes, but he couldn't, he didn't deserve to see such a beautiful light.
"I see…young one, you're afraid," the voice, elderly with a commanding echo, spoke again.
Obito remained silent for a few moments before his eyelids fluttered, revealing his black eyes once again. As he laid eyes on the figure, his breath hitched in surprise, the figure before him…it couldn't be…
"Yes, it could be…I will still introduce myself. I am Hagaromo Otsutsuki, or the…"
"Sage Of Six Paths…but why appear before me? I'm nobody…"
Hagaromo frowned momentarily, the state in which Obito took was after he was separated from the Ten-Tails. Although Hagaromo was extremely impressed by such a feat, Obito's resolve was on a different scale.
"No, you're not nobody, you're Obito Uchiha, the man who defied his fate several times. And that's why I bring myself before you."
Obito's eyes shook before he chuckled defeatedly, a rough smile appeared on his face.
"Why? I'm not…"
"It's due to your sacrifice that young Naruto and Sasuke were able to defeat my mother, Kaguya, I'd say you contributed just as much to the safety of the world as you give yourself credit for."
Obito's eyes widened, Naruto and Sasuke won? That would mean…Kakashi….
"It's just as you're thinking, they all won, even if you believe you didn't contribute enough, you've still played a sufficient role."
"I see…that…makes me happy," Obito's strained smile switched into one of relief, his eyes sparkled with a light that he hadn't seen since his young, naive days of wanting to become Hokage.
"But…that doesn't explain why you came here…"
"Hmm, tell me, Obito, if you were to be given a second opportunity to change, to do better, would you?"
The question, although simple in execution, carried a weight as heavy as the moon. Obito lowered his eyes, looking into his right palm. He was conflicted and even confused to an extent.
"I…I think I would. That's something I've been thinking about while wandering. To redo my mistakes, of course, that's just wishful thinking. I'm dead after all."
Hagaromo rubbed his chin, hearing the conflict in Obito's tone, and the burning fire within his eyes. Hagaromo eventually smiled.
"Obito Uchiha, I came here to deliver you an option, of course, you're free to decline, I won't fault you for it."
"An opportunity?"
Hagaromo nodded. "Yes. When I was alive, during my travels, I traveled to countless worlds, and one of those worlds happened to be a world full of strife, war, and despair."
Obito kept his silence, allowing for the great sage to continue.
"I stayed there for a while, approximately five years in this world's time, but for much longer in that world. The amount of people I met, good and bad, was astonishing, but I realized something it lacked…"
"…."
"It lacked an individual that could bring about a massive change, a savior if you will."
"Great sage…I'm…I'm no savior, it doesn't take a genius to see what you're getting at…"
"But is that truly the case?"
"!"
"Obito, you may see yourself that way, but in my eyes, and the eyes of Naruto, Kakashi, Rin, and even your Sensei, Minato, you were a savior in your own way."
"…" Obito turned away, his fists tightened.
"That's why I'm offering you the opportunity to return from the dead and enter that world to start over and become the savior."
"I'm…"
"Gods run rampant, innocents are led astray, and wars plague several planets. Obito, I want you to go to this world, not to save it, but to understand it and its inhabitants, to understand their pain and help them. Only you can do this."
Each word struck a chord in Obito. His despondent gaze flickered with something akin to understanding and determination. It was he who caused pain to everyone: Kakashi, Sensei, Naruto, and the world itself.
Even if he did help with the Kaguya situation until his last moments, he still felt it wasn't enough, but the words from Rin lifted his spirits. He knew he needed to move forward, but that lingering regret and fear plagued him, causing him to stay in the lands between.
Hagaromo, seemingly aware of Obito's inner plight, remained silent, with the only sound being a distant campfire.
Obito, after a few minutes, released a large breath. His charcoal black eyes gazed up at Hagaromo with resolve burning the surface, getting the Sage Of Six Paths to smile.
"I see you've made up your mind, young Obito."
"I did, I will…take on this responsibility, I only ask that you give me an update on everyone."
Hagaromo nodded, a large grin formed on his elderly face. "Kakashi is doing well, enjoying his time after being the 6th Hokage for a time. Naruto, as he promised you, has become the 7th Hokage and works diligently to protect his family and the peace that was ushered in after the events of the 4th War."
Obito's eyes widened before his lips stretched into a smile of relief and clarity. That means Naruto succeeded in saving Sasuke, and peace had truly become a reality.
Now, he can move on without the burden of certainty keeping him anchored to this everlasting purgatory.
"Thank you. But, I assume we have pressing matters to discuss now?"
"Yes, the world you'll be sent to is extremely dangerous, which, as I said before, is filled with various unique entities and individuals. As it stands, you would be powerless if you didn't harness the mysterious powers in that place. So, I will be helping you in that regard."
Obito was well aware that the Sage Of Six Paths could bestow godly might unto others, given how he did so with Naruto and Sasuke, but he still couldn't help but notice a flicker of conflict in the elder Otsutsuki's eyes.
"You will not only be given your Mangekyo Sharingan but the various jutsu Kakashi has learned in his life. As well as the Rinnegan for insurance."
Obito felt a tingling sensation in his eyes and immediately felt a surge of energy flow through him. There's no doubt he received his Mangekyo Sharingan, and to know he'll be getting the Rinnegan was reassuring.
"Also…"
Obito blinked, seeing the smile on the sage's face.
"I added a little extra beyond that. You'll know when you dig deep."
Cryptic and vague words were to be expected, but Obito couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed by it, but he didn't exactly have the luxury to complain.
"I would like to give you these last words before I send you away. You're to forge your own story in this world. Your past will no doubt linger as you live on again, but don't let it chain you, enjoy this life how you should've, and be free, Obito Uchiha."
Obito wasn't able to respond as he felt himself being pulled by a powerful force. His body disappeared in a flash moments later.
Hagaromo floated silently, his gaze softened but still retained a serious glint.
"Your journey has just begun, but with a few added exceptions, he'll manage just fine, after all, he still carries that overabundant fire to change."
AN: This is something new for me, as I'm used to writing OCs instead, but Obito is one of my favorite characters, and rarely do I see Obito as the MC of the story, however, I will say I won't be able to capture him 100%, I can only try and expand on his character, although I feel he's already perfect. Also, just roll with the fact that Hagaromo went to the Honkai universe, I just needed an excuse for that.
There might be grammar issues due to the fact I gotta pay for Grammarly again.
Now, I will say I did give him his Mangekyo Sharingan and the Rinnegan because the world of Honkai, in general, is insane when you take into account their power system, etc., in Star Rail, the first boss (Doomsday Beast) is already said to be capable of destroying planets and pretty much there a lot of those things roaming around. I don't know when I'll get the next chapter out. I'm still focused on my Dragon Ball story.
