Notes: Takes place 1 ABY (roughly) Over 1 year since the Battle of Yavin.

Mid morning hours, aboard the Nebulon-B frigate. Included areas: Hangar, Medcenter

The U-wing had docked inside the hangar, and with its arrival, members of the alliance

were rushing to greet them. Jyn Erso, alerted by all the commotion, raced to the landing

pad. There, the small team of three that had been sent out the day before had returned

early, as they were scheduled to arrive the next day. As she tried and tried to peer over

and around the crowd of people, she wondered what could have brought them back early.

All of a sudden the crowd was being split apart by General Draven yelling at everyone to

move aside as two medics rushed to the ship. This situation had began to escalate, and it

seemed that everyone wanted in on it, although General Draven wouldn't allow that.

Jyn, now desperate to see what was the matter, managed to slip through one of the

divided groups, gaining a clearer view. Once at the front, the first person she saw was

Ruescott Melshi, a member of the special ops team and he was speaking to one of the

medics, seemingly explaining to them the situation. Then there was Draven, he had

continued to keep back the crowd as a third medic brought out a hover-gurney. The first

medic stepped outside the ship and began speaking to the third, and as the second shouted

back towards the U-wing, an especially familiar face appeared.

It was K-2SO, but as soon as Jyn had seen who he was carrying in his mechanical arms, it

was as if her heart had stopped beating. "Cassian!" She sobbed, tears beginning to flood

her eyes. — What she began to feel was a grief that couldn't be spoken; the sight of

Cassian Andor, lying lifelessly as he was placed on the floating gurney. Her attempt to

run to Cassian's side as the medics rushed him away was thwarted by Kay-too grasping

her arm. She struggled, trying to break away, "Let me go! I want to be with him!"

Frustrated by her inability to be with Cassian, she let herself fall to her knees. — Once

Jyn gave up her fighting, the droid released his grip and left her in silence.

In this moment of not only heartache, but confusion, she had no concept of time, or even

her surroundings. When at last she felt the touch of a hand on her shoulder, she was

startled out of her trance. Turning her head to see who stood behind her, she discovered it

was none other but Mon Mothma. "Erso?" The rebel leader gently began as she handed

the young woman a hankie, "I know how you feel. I know it all too well. And with that, if

it's of any comfort, I will make certain that you can go and see Andor." Mothma assured

her. Jyn wiped her tears, thinking about the soft words which were spoken to her, and as

hard as it may have been, she managed a hint of a smile. "I would like that, very much."

She whimpered. — Mothma offered her a hand, "Well then, we shall go. Come now." Jyn

took Mothma's hand as she got up from her knees and the two made their way to the

medbay.

When they had arrived, Jyn paused outside the door, hesitant to step into the room. She

spun around to face Mothma, her gaze saddened, "What if-" — "He didn't make it?"

Mothma returned, finishing Jyn's sentence, "Instead of fearing the worst, you should try

to hope for the best. Even if it seems impossible." What the woman implied was true, Jyn

had heard this word, hope, many times before, and many times she put her trust in it. Yet

now was not the time to object, "Yes, Ma'am." she responded, turning back to face the

door. Upon opening, the first thing her eyes locked onto was an Intensive Care Pod, and

within it, the still body of Cassian Andor. She ran to his side, looking up and down his

body, "At least you're alive." she spoke under her breath, relieved.

Placing her small

hand on his cheek, she began to rub his face; the rough yet fine stubble upon his face, his

dark hair, his sun tanned skin. It couldn't be told whether the tears welling in her eyes

were of love or sadness, but knowing he was alive was a comfort, a reassurance, and the

tears trickled down her face regardless.

After her gaze swept over him once more, she turned, looking to Mon Mothma, "Thank

you, thank you very much." Jyn said gratefully, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Of

course, Erso. I'm glad that I was able to bring you some sort of comfort, as I know this

isn't easy. Almost losing someone never is." Mothma explained, continuing on, "I believe

there's somewhere I must be, but please, don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything

else you need." Jyn simply nodded as a sign of understanding, "I will."

She watched the Senator leave the Medbay, and as the door closed, she resumed her place

at Cassian's side. Around her, medical staff flitted about, and she watched them,

curiously. Eyes flecked with stardust watch closely as a medic comes over to check

Cassian's vitals – She didn't speak a word until that medic gently shook his head, only

then, did she bring out her voice, eyes widening; "What's wrong?" Tones of worry and

uncertainty mingled as she spoke, "Is he alright?" The medic turned to address Jyn and

asked, "The patient? He is stabilizing, which is what we've been hoping for." Jyn's

expression remained the same, except for a quiet sigh, "But, I saw you shake your head,

sir." He thought for a moment, then nodded, "Yes, I did. You see, once he wakes, I'm

afraid we won't have much of anything to soothe the pain of his injuries. With all the

raids that have been going on, our medical resources have been nearly drained. We're in

desperate need of a supply shipment." "Oh." She breathed, "I see. Is there anything you

can do? You're a medic, aren't you?"

The medic gave her a look of disapproval at the impertinence of her remark, "That's

right, I am the medic here." He said, his calm voice turned stern, "And if you are going to

question my authority, my judgment, then I will kindly ask you to leave so I may tend to

my patient." A breath taken before he concluded, "I will do my best, but that's all I can

do."

His best? That's it? Were her thoughts as she mulled over what the medic had told her,

and realistically, what he'd said was true, even if she didn't like it. Upon her face she

wore a stubborn expression, "Fine. I suppose a thank you is in order then." She implied,

and a humble response from the medic followed "No need, it's only my duty. But, you're

welcome." On this note, she turned, only softening her gaze as she ran her hand through

Cassian's dark hair, then she swiftly left the medbay.

Jyn's steps were hurried as she made her way through the halls and corridors to where the

many living quarters were. She made it to her designated room and stepped through the

mechanical door, and with a swoosh it closed behind her. She crawled on top of her bed,

laying on her back and staring at the ceiling. At least now she could think in peace and

quiet, letting everything that had happened that morning sink in, and at some point,

drifting off to sleep.

After about a couple hours, she woke up to the sound of knocking, an almost frantic

rapping upon her door. Jyn nearly jumped out of bed, quickly answering the door. Bodhi

Rook nearly fell forward through the doorway as it opened, but managed to catch

himself. "Bodhi? What's the matter?" she asked the anxious pilot, who seemed to have a

look of urgency about him. He took a moment to catch his breath, before announcing:

"Cassian is starting to wake up! I was told to come and get you, Jyn." – A gasp, her eyes

wide, "Really?" "Yes!" Bodhi reaffirmed, "Now let's go." She followed behind him, not

wanting to lose a moment as they rushed back to the medbay.

Bodhi politely urged her into the medbay, allowing her to go ahead of him. It seemed

more lively, most likely because of Cassian's waking. Jyn had to wait a moment before

she could squeeze in as close as she could, at first only being able to listen in, observe. –

"Ugh, my head…." Cassian moaned, "What happened?" Two of the medics gave each

other a glance, the kind of look when a thought is shared. "Do you not remember?" The

first medic inquired. Cassian had to think, his brows furrowing, "No. Not quite. Why?"

This wasn't unusual with a concussion, loss of consciousness and sometimes memory,

and the medics were honest with him, as they explained to him his condition, the

concussion and various wounds. "How do you feel right now?" Asked the second medic,

looking for any other signs, especially those hinting at internal injury. "My head hurts."

And Cassian winced from the headaches' effect, "Honestly, I feel like I've been in a nasty

fight." The medics nodded, the first continuing on, "That's because you were, you're very

lucky that your fellow rebels got you out of danger's path." Cassian didn't respond, more

so due to a lack of words and the stress on his head. This gave Jyn an opportune time to

make her presence known, "Ahem." Everyone who was in the medbay turned as Jyn

cleared her throat, she certainly got their attention. The medic that she'd met earlier

recognized her, "Ah, you're…." he trailed off, as he hadn't learned her name. "Erso. Jyn

Erso." She affirmed, and in doing so, earned a response from the still weary Cassian.

"Jyn?" he called out, looking past those medics, "Come closer." His voice was groggy,

yet inviting, and she did as he said, the medics moving aside to let her in. They locked

eyes for a moment, her green eyes meeting the trusting dark of his. Leaning close, she

whispered; "I was so worried. I-I thought…" – "You'd lose me? I don't plan on leaving

you, mi amor, not so long as I have a choice." He replied in just a hushed voice as hers, as

if they were sharing precious secrets. She gave a small nod, managing a smile in hopes to

stop the tears from falling, "Welcome home, Cassian."
