Misty waited for Ash to return from Hoenn. Finally, a short boy came running down the hill with his faithful Pikachu on his shoulder.

"Hey! Small boy!" Misty exclaimed excitedly, looking down to see him and thought," Hehe shortstock!"

"Darn! I am still shorter than you!" Ash groaned with Misty laughing.

A year passed by after Ash had gone to Sinnoh. Misty found herself standing in the same spot as last time, and again there came running a slightly taller version of the boy, except he was still shorter than her. They both stood where they were, and Ash recounted the tales about his whole journey through Sinnoh, from meeting the champion of Sinnoh to some random purple-haired rival who sounded like a butt-head. He also made a side comment about his height again.

Misty was sad to see Ash go again this time to Unova and was slightly tempted to ask to join him but knew she had her duties as the Cerulean gym leader so she held back.

Another year passed and Misty caught rumors that Ash was returning so she went to Pallet town to await his arrival. Finally, after going to Pallet Town for the fifth time she spotted the boy whose legs looked longer.

Misty noticed that he was almost about her height and his voice had begun its cracking phase.

"He's getting taller and older," Misty thought but quickly shook that idea out of her head. Like last time, he talked all about his Unova journey and how he was able to travel with one of the gym leaders from Unova and some crazy wild girl who loved dragon-type. He then teased her about how he was slowly growing taller.

"Man, it was so much fun!" Ash commented as he dusted off his hat.

Misty gave him a grin but felt regret that she hadn't asked to join him for his Unova journey.

This time she was planning to ask to join him on his next journey but things didn't go the way she planned. The next time she saw him would be another year since he had abruptly left for Kalos. She visited Delia once every week to keep tabs on how Ash was doing and after a year and a half. Ash was finally going to return home. On that fateful day, Misty stood on the all-too-familiar road that led to Pallet town. After waiting for a few hours she spotted the outline coming towards her. It was a raven-haired boy who was returning from one of his many journeys.

"Ash!" she exclaimed running towards him until something hit her.

Instead of looking down at him. She slowly turned her head upward until her eyes reached Ash's. They were above her head and his voice was much deeper and had lost the crack.

"Heyo! Misty! Ash exclaimed happily as he hugged her.

Misty felt her feet were being lifted off the ground.

"No way! He is taller than me!" Misty thought to herself.

"Hehe! You've noticed!" Ash exclaimed proudly, grinning," Now you can't say you're taller!"

Misty for once was dumbfounded. She had always dreaded the day he would surpass her but for some reason, she was fine with it.

"You ok Mist?" Ash questioned, for once noticing her mood.

"I'm fine you giant!" Misty smiled and punched him on the shoulder," Just can't believe you're taller than me!"

"Hehe!" Ash laughed.

Misty was caught off guard when Ash slowly put his hands into hers.

"I've missed you, Misty," he murmured as he put his head on hers.

"Me too," Misty sighed leaning on his shoulder," Me too, my tall boy.
