Chapter 2-Newnan
Travis's P.O.V
Travis opened his eyes and looked around. "You need to wake up," Madison says as she was getting dressed. "You're going on that run with Shane, Glenn, and T-dog."
"I know," Travis says as he stands up. "Do we have any weapons?"
"We have a pocket knife in the car," Madison says. "Shane probably has some weapons you can use."
"I'll go ask," Travis says as he puts his boots on and leaves. He walks through the camp and sees Lori and Carol making breakfast and Shane talking with Dale, T-dog and Glenn. "What is the plan."
"We're going to go to Newnan," Shane tells him. "We don't have a ton of weapons," Shane says as he grabs a bag off the ground and sets it down it down. He opens the bag and pulls out a couple of weapons. He pulls out a tire iron, a crowbar, a kitchen knife, a screwdriver and a hammer. Shane removes a handgun from behind his shirt and looks at Travis. "You know how to shoot?"
"Yeah, I do," Travis says. Shane nods as he holds the revolver out to him. "It's Lori's. Make sure she gets it back."
Travis nods as he puts it behind his shirt. "Grab a weapon, we'll take T-dog's van. It will hold the most supplies," Glenn says. They nod. Travis grabs the hammer, T-dog grabs the crowbar and Glenn grabs the kitchen knife and a screwdriver. "Better safe than sorry," Glenn says as Shane grabs the tire iron.
"We leave in ten minutes," Shane says as he walks away.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane walks down the hills to the Dixon's tent where Daryl was making arrows and Merle was skinning a rabbit. "How can we help you officer?" Merle asks. "I promise we haven't done anything."
"I doubt that," Shane says. "But I don't think the laws matter right now. From what Daryl said last night, you and him have the most experience with these things."
"Calling them walkers," Merle says. "What do you want Walsh?"
"What do you know about them? You aren't going to help us, at least tell me what you know."
"What do I get for this information?"
"What do you want?" Shane asks.
"We could use another crossbow and my brother could use a handgun," Merle says.
"So I get you a crossbow and a handgun and you give me what I want?" Shane asks him and he nods. "Fine."
"They are attracted to noise, the more noise you make, the more of them that show up. You have to destroy the brain. Stab them in the head, bash their skulls in. Take their heads off, it doesn't really matter, just destroy the brain. They bite you and you're done, you'll get a fever and then you'll die and turn into one of them and most of them aren't fast. We've seen a few that move faster than others. If they smell your blood they'll swarm on you like bees. Don't hesitate or you will die. That is your rundown, I'll see you if you come back," Merle says.
"Thanks," Shane says before he walks away.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl grabs two off the rabbits and puts ties their feet to a string. "What are you doing, baby brother?" Merle asks.
"I'm going to give this to 'em," Daryl tells him.
"Now why would you do that?"
"They have kids, man. I ain't going to hurt us, we can catch our own food," Daryl says.
"Do what you want Darlene," Merle says and Daryl sighs as he grabs the rabbits and walks up the hills with his crossbow on his back. He walked up to Lori, Carol, Madison, and Amy as they spoke.
"Hey," Daryl says making them look at him.
"Hi, Daryl. What do you need?" Madison asks as Daryl pulls the rabbits off his shoulder.
"For you guys," Daryl says as he holds it out to Madison who takes it.
"Thank you," Madison says and Daryl nods.
"You know how to skin 'em?"
"Yes, do you guys need anything?" Madison asks.
"Nah, we're good," Daryl says before he walks away from them.
Madison's P.O.V
Madison watches Daryl as he walks back down the hills. "I do not trust him or his brother," Lori says. "His brother creeps me out."
"They are just trying to get by," Madison says. "I don't know about Merle but Daryl seems okay. He's shielded, doesn't trust anybody but his brother."
"He brought us food, he can't be too bad," Amy says as she takes the rabbits from Madison. "You mind showing me how to skin these?"
"I'll show you. Come on," Madison says as she walks down the hills where they had a table set up. She grabs a bucket. She grabs a knife and sits down.
"What did you do before all this?"
"I was a school counselor," Madison says as she begins to skin the rabbit.
"So how'd you learn to do this?"
"I had a interesting childhood," Madison says. "Pay attention."
Amy nods as she watches her.
T-dog's P.O.V
T-dog stops the car in Newnan and climbs out. He looks around as Glenn, Travis, and Shane climb out. They turn when they hear a groan and see a walker coming towards them. "Who wants it?" Shane asks.
"I'll do it," T-dog says as he grips the crowbar.
"Remember, go for the head," Shane says. T-dog nods as he walks forward. The walker reaches for him and T-dog swings the crossbow. He hits the walker in the jaw with the blunt end breaking it's jaw. The jaw hangs as it reaches for T-dog again who raises the crowbar over his head and slams it down on the walkers head. The walker falls to the ground and T-dog stabs the bottom of the crowbar into the walkers head. The walker stops moving and T-dog pants as he removes the crowbar from the walkers head. T-dog walks back over to the others. "Good job," Shane says as he pats his shoulder.
"Alright, we need food, medicine, weapons, clothes and women products. Food, medicine, weapons are the priority though. Gas wouldn't hurt either," Travis says.
"We'll split up," Shane says as he reaches into the van and grabs a radio that he hands to Travis. "Travis go with T-dog and I'll go with Glenn. Radio if you need help, only use your gun if you have to," Shane says and they nod as they split up.
Nick's P.O.V
Nick sat on the R.V watching the water. "Nice view isn't it?" Dale asks as he climbs up the later and sits beside him.
"Yeah, it is," Nick says. "You camped here before?"
"With my wife, I lost her a couple of years ago," Dale tells her. "How long have you been an addict?" Nick looks at him. "I overheard you and your Mom."
"A couple of years, it got worse after my Dad died in a head on collision. You got something for me?"
"No, I'm not offering you drugs, Nick. What I will say is that this will get you killed. You've probably tried to quit before but couldn't. Now you need to or you will die and I don't think you want to die and you don't want your mother to feel the pain of losing her child."
"I don't need a therapist," Nick says as he stands up. "Enjoy the view," He says as he walks towards the ladder.
Glenn's P.O.V
Glenn follows Shane as they walk down the street. "What are we looking for?" Glenn asks.
"There's a sheriff's station here. I came here once with Carl's father. We were helping them with an investigation. I'm hoping that no one got in there," Shane tells Glenn who nods.
"So you're not Carl's Dad?" Glenn asks Shane who shakes his head. "Where is he?"
"Dead," Shane answers flatly. "If we're going to talk, change the subject," Glenn nods as they get to the sheriff's station. Shane opens the door and walks inside with Glenn behind him. "Hello," Shane says. "If anybody is here come out." They hear a crash and hear a groan. They enter the bullpen as a walker comes towards them wearing a cop unfiform. Shane hits the walker in the head with the end of the tire iron. It stumbles back and he hits it again slamming the side of the tire iron into the walkers head. He pulls it out and the walker crumbles to the ground.
Shane bends down and grabs the handgun from the cops holster and the pocket knife. He checks the clip and sees that it is full. "You know how to shoot?" Shane asks Glenn.
"Kind of, I went hunting with my Dad a couple of times," Glenn says. Shane nods as he hands the gun out to him and he takes it.
"Come on," Shane says as he grabs the keys from the officer and walks through the department until he reaches the gun cage that was still locked. He opened it and looked around. "This is good."
"You'll need to need the group how to shoot, we can't just hand out guns," Glenn says.
"I know, Glenn," Shane says as he puts a shotgun in a bag. "We'll figure it out."
Travis's P.O.V
Travis and T-dog open the door to a pharmacy. They walk inside and look around. They had already hit a gas station and store. They found some food and they had taken some gas from a few cars. They stop when they see a walker at the counter. The walker grabs for them. Travis walks up to the walker and turns the hammer around. He slams the claw of the hammer into the walker's head and the walker slumps against the counter. Travis pulls the hammer out and the walker falls to the ground. "Grab everything you can. We don't know what we will need," Travis tells T-dog who nods as they start to walk around the store.
"So you from Atlanta?" T-dog asks.
"No, Los Angeles," Travis answers.
"What the hell are you doing in Georgia?" T-dog asks.
"We decided to have a family vacation before the end of the school year and Alicia went to college. My ex-wife was fine with Chris coming. We didn't expect this," Travis says as he puts medicine in his bag.
"So Alicia and Nick aren't yours?" T-dog asks.
"No, they're my step kids," Travis tells him. T-dog nods. "We should be getting back soon, we don't want to be on the road during the night."
"We'll finish here and head back."
Madison's P.O.V
Madison sat with Alicia as she cooked the rabbit. "How did I not know you could do this?" Alicia asks her Mom.
"I know more than you think, Alicia," Madison says as they hear a engine. They look at the hill as T-dog's van stops. "They're back."
Madison stands up and walks towards the van as Travis get's out. "How'd you do?" Madison asks her husband.
"We did good," Travis tells her as the others get out and Shane opens the back. He opens the bag he grabbed a handgun and a crossbow.
"Found some bows, maybe at some point Merle and Daryl can teach some of us," Glenn says.
"I'll take those down," Madison tells Shane who nods as he hands her the handgun and the crossbow. Madison walks away from them and down the hills. Merle sat in front of the tent eating a bowl of soup.
"Hey, pretty lady," Merle says as Madison stops in front of him. "Don't worry, we got our own food tonight."
Madison nods as she holds the handgun out to him. "Shane's keeping his word," Madison tells Merle who nods. He takes the crossbow. Madison looks behind him at the open tent where Daryl was changing his shirt. The younger Dixon brother pulls his shirt off and Madison stares at the scars on his back.
"You can go now," Merle says after seeing what she is looking at. "Now."
"Have a good night," Madison says before she walks up the hill. She walks over to where the others were starting to sit down.
"We got a good amount of weapons, we dealt with some of the dead," Shane says. "You'll need to learn how to shoot before you can carry but for now, we'll hand out some of the knives we have. Some of us should carry."
The others nod as the group starts to eat.
Thanks for reading. Next chapter will have a timeskip of a week. Madison will start to try and talk to Daryl. Shane will work with Travis on keeping the camp safe and Glenn will start thinking about getting more supplies in Atlanta. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
