Chapter 11-Daryl leaves
A couple of weeks later
59 days after the fall
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl opens his eyes and looks around the tent and saw that Merle was gone. He sighs as he stands up and walks outside of the tent where Merle was sitting down on a chair. "I got out here all by myself baby brother," Merle says. Merle has been slowly healing over the last few weeks, he was able to put a little bit of weight on his leg but still needed the crutches.
"Good job," Daryl says as Glenn walks down to them.
"What's up, Chinaman?" Merle asks.
"I'm still Korean asshole," Glenn says as he looks at Daryl. "What are you doing today?"
"Going to take Amy hunting," Daryl tells him. "Tomorrow we'll head to Atlanta," Daryl tells Glenn who nods. "Let's go get some food for this idiot."
"Thanks baby brother," Merle says as Glenn and Daryl walk up the hill where the rest of the group was gathered and eating.
"Morning," T-dog says to them.
"Morning," Daryl says as T-dog makes them a bowl and holds it out to Daryl and Glenn who take it. He makes it another for Merle.
"So what are you doing today, Daryl?" Shane asks from where he sat.
"Hunting what about you?" Daryl replies. "Maybe, go help Dale with the R.V, be useful," Daryl says as he walks down hill towards the camp.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane walks towards his tent with Lori behind him. "We should sent someone to King County," Lori says.
"No one is going there, Lori," Shane says as he turns to look at his girlfriend. "There is nothing there for us, Rick is gone."
Lori stays silent as Shane sighs. "I can't go back to that place."
"But you know the gun locker could have weapons and the hospital would be stocked," Lori says.
"I said, no Lori!" Shane growls. "He's…He's still there."
"He deserves to be buried," Lori tells him softly.
"No one goes to King County," Shane says. "End of discussion," Shane says before he walks away from Lori who watches him. Neither of them knowing that someone was listening.
Travis's P.O.V
Travis walks down the hill and looks at Merle who sat in his chair skinning a rabbit Daryl had caught the day before. "It's the first time you have came to see me since you gave me a nice present," Merle says without looking up. He sets his knife down and looks at the man. "What, no get well card, a book, a ballon maybe?"
"How's the leg doing?" Travis asks.
"Doesn't hurt as bad, I ain't stuck in that fucking tent anymore, I have a small urge to shoot you," Merle tells him. "So did you come down here to apologize?" Merle asks with a smirk.
"No," Travis answers and the smile falls off Merle's face. "I overreacted; I admit that. But you were threating someone I loved, my stepson. I'll protect my family no matter what," Travis tells him. "I don't have any problems with you, Merle. Daryl either, Daryl does a lot for this group, but threaten a member of my family again, and I won't stop with your leg," Travis tells him and Merle nods.
"I got it boss," Merle says. "That boy, the one I hit, watch him, he may seem like he's doing good, but something happens he might fall back into his old ways, and then someone dies," Merle says. "Just some advice."
"Thanks," Travis says as he turns and walks back up the hill.
T-dog's P.O.V
T-dog looks at Glenn as they looked at the map. "So why are we looking at a map?" Glenn asks him.
"Daryl and I, we've been seeing more walkers on the road," Glenn says.
"So?" T-dog asks.
"I means they are moving out of the city," Glenn says. "This place is good, but I don't know how well it will do up to a big group of walkers."
"Are you think we should move again?" T-dog asks.
"I don't know," Glenn answers. "We're far enough from Atlanta that I'm not worried about a herd from there but we know there are a lot more walkers outside of Atlanta," Glenn says. "We need to increase patrols. I want four people during the night now."
T-dog nods. "You run this by Dale, Travis, and Shane."
"By Dale and Travis, I haven't seen Shane since this morning, haven't seen Lori either," Glenn says. "They probably sneaked off again."
"Alright, I'll get people for patrol," T-dog tells Glenn who nods.
"You wanna join me and Daryl tomorrow for a run?"
"Sure," T-dog says and Glenn nods as the larger man walks away.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Amy walked through the wood. Amy had a bow that Daryl had found and was learning to use it. "Lori was talking about King County earlier," Amy says making Daryl look at her.
"King County?" Daryl asks.
"Where she came from, she said that the police station might still be stocked with supplies, weapons, ammo," Amy tells him.
"Then why the hell haven't we gone there?" Daryl asks her.
"Shane doesn't want to go back, because of Lori's husband."
"The one that died?" Daryl asks her and she nods.
"I'm pretty sure he is still in that hospital," Amy tells him.
"Fuck what Shane says, we need weapons here," Daryl tells her.
"You gonna go?" Amy asks.
"I'll talk with Glenn after the run to Atlanta," Daryl tells her.
"How Merle doing?" Amy asks.
"It almost sounds like you care about my dear brother," Daryl says and Amy chuckles.
"He isn't so bad," Amy says. "Once you get past his big tuff guy interior." Daryl chuckles as he stops. Amy looks at him as it bends down.
"That isn't an animal," Amy says.
"No, it's a walker," Daryl says. "More than one. Come on," He says as he starts to follow the tracks. They walk for about ten minutes and they see a group of five walkers. "You ready?" Daryl asks Amy who nods. Daryl raises his crossbow and shoots the first walker in the back of the head. Amy raises her bow and hits a walker in back of the head. The walkers turn and look at them as they removes their knife. Daryl goes up to the first walker and stabs it in the head as Amy stabs the second one. Daryl removes his knife and stabs the last one in the eye. He pulls his bolt out of the walkers head and looks around.
"This is the first time we've seen them this close to camp," Amy says and Daryl nods. "Let's make sure there is nothing else and see what we can catch and then we'll head back."
Madison's P.O.V
Madison walked up behind Alicia as she threw her knife into a tree. "You're getting good at that," Madison says.
"Nothing else to do in this place," Alicia says as she pulls her knife from the tree. "What's up?"
"Nothing, I just haven't seen much of you, Nick's been spending his time with Dale, learning about cars."
"I wanna go on runs, Mom," Alicia says.
"Alicia—"
"Don't try to talk me out of this, I am tired of staying in this camp and letting the Dixon's, Glenn and Amy do everything. I'm gonna help," Alicia says. Madison sighs but nods. "You should start going on runs too, we have to carry our weight," Alicia says. "You wanna know why this camp wouldn't survive without the Dixon's? Because we all sit on our asses while they do all the work, Daryl and Merle get food, Glenn and Daryl go on runs, Daryl and Amy hunt as well, so maybe if anybody every wants to get rid of them, we have to do what they do," Alicia says before she starts to walk away.
"Alicia," Madison says making her daughter look at her. "Do you think we should get rid of them?"
"No," Alicia replies before she walks away.
Amy's P.O.V
The group stood around the R.V. "I didn't know Daryl could gather us when he wanted too," Shane says.
"Don't start shit man," T-dog says as Daryl looks at Shane.
"We found a group of walkers," Daryl says. "Five of 'em, near camp," Daryl says.
"Glenn said you guys have seen more on the road, it means they are moving away from the city," T-dog says.
"So what do you suggest we do?" Shane asks sarcastically.
"You seem to have all the answers, Walsh, why don't you figure it out," Daryl growls.
"I don't have any answers, Dixon. I thought you and Merle had them all," Shane replies.
"Figure it out yourself," Daryl says as he walks down the hill.
"Do you have to be suck an asshole to him?" Amy asks Shane.
"Of course you're defending him," Shane says. "I mean you've become the Dixon's best friend."
"They might as well be leading this fucking camp," Lori says. "He goes on runs and gets our food, the Dixon's run this camp, we might as well start raiding people and Daryl's girlfriend here," Lori says as she looks at Amy who looks at her in shock. "Will probably start calling the rest of us useless like she did Nick," Lori growls before she walks away. Glenn sighs as he runs his hands through his hair.
"Travis, send out Mandy, David, Nick and Carol out. Alicia, Chris, Andrea, and T-dog go another way, make sure there aren't any more walkers, alright, let's go," Glenn says and the group nods as they split up. Glenn looks at Shane, "Get Lori,"
"Glenn—"
"Get Lori, Shane," Glenn growls and Shane stops for a moment not used to hearing Glenn talk to anybody like that.
"Alright, man," Shane says and he walks away. A couple minutes later he comes back with Lori.
"Look, I don't care that you two hate Daryl and Merle. But they are apart of this group, whether you like it or not. So you don't have to be friends with them, but please, stop treating them like they are human garbage. Who they were before don't matter. The dead walk among us now, we have to work together or we are all going to die," Glenn tells them before he walks away.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl grabbed his bag and put some food and water into his bag. "What are you doing?" Merle asks him.
"I'm going on a run," Daryl tells him.
"A run?" Merle asks.
"I probably won't be back until tomorrow night."
"You going alone?" Merle asks Daryl who nods. "Baby brother, what the hell are you doing?"
"Do you trust me?" Daryl asks his brother who nods. "Then I'll see you tomorrow," Daryl tells him and Merle nods as Daryl grabs his crossbow and walks outside. He walks up to the truck that was by the gate and looked at Jim who was on watch.
"You sure about this?" Jim asks Daryl who nods as he climbs in the truck. Jim opens gate and Daryl drives out of the camp.
Thanks for reading. Next chapter Daryl goes to King County and runs into someone. The others at the camp wonder where he has gone and Lori is in for a surprise. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
