Chapter 37

~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~

It had been a week since Erik went on a ride along with Steve and Danny for the day and he had mostly changed his attitude. Mostly. He was still a pain in the ass for Danny but he was serious about working in a crime lab and ended up shadowing Charlie for a day, being shown what he could end up doing. Steve and Danny after that also took Erik on some sight-seeing before he had to head home. Thankfully there were no gun fights or criminals on the sight-seeing tour that they took Erik on.

It was now time for Erik to head on home. They were standing at the airport with Grace who they were able to get for just a couple of hours to see Erik off after going to lunch. Erik had gone and checked in and they were standing near the security gate waiting for him to finish checking in.

Danny was a little fidgety about sending Erik across the country on his own. He knew he had changed his tune but he was still just changing now. Steve chuckled and wrapped his arm around Danny shoulder from where he was standing beside him. Grace was waiting beside him holding his hand.

"Danny relax. Erik has changed so much since being here. Given, his personality still needs improvement and that may not change too much. His behaviour and what he wants to do with his life has."

"I know. I just don't know if it's a good idea to send him back across the country by himself."

"He will be fine. I think you might be surprised."

"Yeah maybe."

"I could always join him if you would like."

"You would fly all the way to New Jersey just to see my nephew got home with causing a scene and then turn around and fly all the way back."

"Yeah. Plus, I would get to stop in and see your folks. Your mother is a hoot."

"Hey! I'm being ditched for my mother!" Danny said as he slapped Steve in the chest teasingly.

"Oh, Danny you should know by now that I absolutely love your mother. I might even just have to move out there." Steve said and he could feel Grace hide in his leg and giggle at Danny's spluttering.

"Oh that's it!" Danny said and shrugged Steve's arm off his shoulder and turned to face him. "I will have you know that you are now in the doghouse, and you will need to do some major grovelling to get out of it. Move out to New Jersey." Danny grumbled as Grace's giggles turned into laughter.

Danny's eyes shot down to Grace who squeaked and hid behind Steve, laughing hard at Danny. Steve chuckled and reached out and pulled him in a hug as Danny sighed and gave a chuckle of his own.

"Thanks babe."

"Feel better."

"A little."

"Though I was serious about flying with Erik, if you would like."

"I thank you for that Steve, but I think it would be best if I let him know I trust him and let him fly back on his own."

"I think that is a good idea. Here he comes."

Danny pulled away from Steve and stepped back beside him as Erik walked over. Danny sighed as he watched Erik flirt with a girl as he walked past her. Steve hid a chuckle and wrapped his arm back around Danny's shoulder and gave it a squeeze.

"Alright Uncle Danny, I'm off. Thanks for having me."

"You are aware that this wasn't a holiday."

"Thanks Uncle Danny, I was trying to be polite but just push that aside." Erik said a little put off.

"Erik, it was lovely to have you and as much as you are a pain in the ass, you are welcome any time." Danny said after sighing.

"Thanks Uncle Danny." Erik said before Danny pulled him in for a hug.

"Erik, safe flight and like Danny said you are welcome any time." Steve said as he shook Erik's hand.

"Thanks Steve."

"Bye Erik."

"See you Gracie. We will see each other soon." Erik said as he gave Grace a hug before stepping back. "Well, I will see you all next time."

They said their goodbyes a second time before Erik turned and headed for security and headed on through after his bag was on the conveyor belt and he walked through the metal detector and disappeared. Steve allowed Danny to stand there for another minute before gently tugging him towards the exit and out of the airport. Steve and Danny dropped Grace home before heading home to an empty house.

"I swear Steve that boys acts up once, I will fly out there and give him a hiding and then let the cops deal with him." Danny finally said as they sat on the couch.

"You say that, but you will still try and get him off lighter than he would if he wasn't your nephew."

"No, I will let them throw the book at him."

"Ok." Steve said with a small smile before he settled down beside him on the couch and wrapped his arm around him. "Your sister ready for him to come back home?"

"Yeah, as much as a handful as he is she missed him so much. I should have told him that she was messaging me daily asking how he was. He didn't want her fussing over him constantly and made her promise not to call or text him constantly, he would message her every second or third day but he didn't want her constantly messaging him and checking up on him. I think it probably a good thing even though she annoyed the hell out of me."

"You! You're always so difficult to annoy."

"Ha ha ha very funny. I think I know why he got annoyed with her so much now because she annoyed me just as much. Might have to let her know to back off a little." Danny said pulling out of Steve's arms slightly and sat beside him.

"Let's just see how things go. She might be ok now."

"Mmm." Danny said distractedly.

"Well, we have the house to ourselves now." Steve said, suggestively.

Danny didn't really reply other than a nod of his head. Steve shook his head and to snap Danny out of whatever he was in, Steve phased to his wolf form. His clothes ripped apart and the size of the wolf that now replaced where Steve had been, pushed Danny further along the couch. Danny let out a yell of shock before grumbling under his breath at the wolf now taking up most of the couch.

"Seriously Steven did you have to do that. Stupid question of course you did." Danny said with a shake of his head as Steve just grumbled at him before laying down and across Danny. "You right there?"

Steve let out a bark before he changed his mind and jumped off the couch and looked at Danny before walking up the stairs. Danny let out a sigh before he stood and locked all the doors and set the alarm before following Steve upstairs. Danny walked into the bedroom to find it empty, but he heard the shower running. Danny undressed and walked into the bathroom to find Steve already in the shower. Danny walked over and slipped inside the shower with Steve and wrapped his arms around his waist and pressed up against him.

"I know what you were doing?"

"What?"

"I was too much in my head."

"You were. Don't worry about any of it. If something is wrong than we will deal with it than."

"Hmm."

"Don't start that again."

"Hmm." Danny said again.

Steve turned around and glared lightly at Danny when he saw the look on his face. Danny had done the second one on purpose so Steve would turn around. Danny smirked before leaning and kissing Steve on the lips before pulling back.

"Better?"

"I don't know, didn't seem right." Steve said making Danny chuckle.

Danny leaned back in and kissed him more passionately on the lips as Steve wrapped his arms around Danny's waist in return, pulling him in closer. Danny pulled away and looked up at Steve.

"Better?"

"Much. But one thing?"

"What?"

Steve dived back down and kissed Danny again pulling him in closer if it was even possible. Danny moaned and was pushed back against the wall of the shower that was cold to the touch making him arch into Steve slightly to try and get away from the chill. Steve pressed Danny further into the wall and gripped his waist firmly keeping him there. When Steve pulled away Danny was breathless and panting making him smirk.

"Oh, whip that smirk off your face, you animal." Danny ground out making Steve chuckle. "Get off." Danny said with a small push to his shoulder.

Steve stepped back and let Danny move in under the shower while he put shampoo through his hair. Danny watched Steve as he let the water run over his body, looking at all the old and new scar scattered across his body. Danny loved and hated Steve's scars. They were a sign of how often he was in danger and willing to put his life on the line for others, but also of how much he worked to get home to his family and friends.

When he looked up to Steve's face he saw him looking at him in concern. It was that look that Danny realised, Steve had been trying to get his attention. Danny stepped aside to let Steve wash the shampoo from his hair and reached for a towel to dry off. He dried part of himself before wrapping the town around his waist and climbed out of the shower. Steve soon followed out of the shower.

They both dried off completely before heading into the bedroom to get dressed. Steve laid in bed in just a pair of boxers and leaned against the headboard while Danny dressed in boxers as well dried his hair off more since it was longer than Steve's.

"So…" Steve started.

"So?" Danny questioned as he turned back to Steve as he took the towel from his hair.

"When would you like to mate?"

"You realise it sounds really weird since I am human right?" Danny asked making Steve roll his eyes at him. "But to answer your question; yes I do. I love you Steven."

"I love you too Daniel. So about this mating, not sure you realise but we will need to go out to the reserve and camp."

"God, you are an animal. At least you didn't try that the first night we slept together."

"Danny I'm going to bite you and you will change later that night. You will need to be out in the rainforest so no one can hear you. We will find a secluded campsite so no one will hear anything."

"Animal." Danny said with no heat in his voice as he tossed the towel into the hamper making Steve chuckle as Danny walked over to the bed and slid in beside him.

"You don't know the half of it." Steve said to just rile Danny up.

"Dear lord you are crazy. How did I get myself into this situation again."

"I'm irresistible." Steve said making Danny raise an eyebrow at him. "Just like you are."

Danny chuckled and turned his beside table lamp off and settled under the covers as Steve did the same. Steve shuffled in closer to Danny and wrapped his arms around him and pulled him in close.

"You know you still didn't answer my question."

"What was it again?"

"When would you like to mate?"

"I don't know really. When do you want to?"

"Danny." Steve groaned.

"Steve." Danny said back.

"I am not the one having their life changed around. You need to decide when you want to do this. I can do it for you." Steve said softly making Danny sigh and nod his head.

"How about next weekend? I don't have Grace as Rachel wanted to take her to Maui with her and Stan."

"That works for me. We can take a couple of extra days off after as well. Chin and Kono can cover for us."

"Why?"

"Believe me you will need it."

"Alright."

Steve and Danny settled comfortably in bed and slowly drifted off to sleep.
