Chapter IV: Dollhouse

Shopping for groceries that weekend morning had been particularly interesting.

She had gotten up early at her mother's request to buy groceries for breakfast as her pantry was filling up relatively faster than expected with the whole new series of unexpected guests, but on the way back home, an unknown girl on a bicycle thrown a soda at her. Although Tsuna's reflexes caught it before it could crash directly into her, as soon as she had the can in her hand, her intuition began to vibrate like crazy warning her of its contents.

Tsuna didn't need to hear the whispers that her hyperintuition sent to her mind to know what had put her on such alert.

Poison.

And if she had to guess, she would bet anything on the fact that the half-foreign sweetheart that threw it her way was one more of Reborn's stellar guests.

Tsuna simply gave a big sigh, taking all the calm in the world to get home knowing that only God knew what the hell Reborn would get her into now.

And of course, Tsuna was no fortune teller but he had been right.

The girl in question was called Bianchi, a former assassin partner of Reborn's who had rang the doorbell at his house shortly after he arrived posing as a pizza delivery girl to, surprise, try to poison her again.

Luckily Reborn blew the pizza out of her hands with a bullet before she could actually try to kill Tsuna or any of the other occupants of the house.

Apparently the girl was very sad that Reborn had to leave her side in a life of danger and excitement to dedicate himself to the peaceful life of guardian of an heir. Reborn had to exchange a couple of words with her to make her understand that he had a duty in that place and that he couldn't just leave. Fortunately for Tsuna, after the girl practically withdrew having confessed that she planned to kill Tsunayoshi so that Reborn would return to her, Reborn deigned to give her some more context.

"Bianchi is an independent hitman called 'The Poisonous Scorpion'. "Her special ability is poisonous food."

"Yeah. "I could figure." Tsuna said with a flat brow and heavy irony in her voice. "...She seems to care a lot about you."

"She loves me. We dated a couple of times." Reborn said, without giving it any major importance.

"Dated?" Tsuna asked raising her eyebrows.

"Bianchi was my lover. The fourth one, to be precise." Tsuna gave Reborn a blank stare for a really long moment of silence before asking

"... Is pedophilia a socially acceptable thing in the Vongola family… or the mob world even?"

"No. But Tsuna, humans are creatures that will inevitably die one day."

"And… that is a valid justification… for pedophilia?"

"Bianchi is not a…" Reborn let out a long sigh before acknowledging for the first time one of the biggest elephants in the room.

"Look. It's a Platonic Relationship, okay?...

And I know that you are way too smart to be fooled by the whole child act."

"Then… will you ever tell me exactly what you are?"

"Maybe one day, when you have already become the boss, you will know."

And that was the most honest answer that Tsuna had heard from Reborn in all the short time they had known each other.

.

.

.

The following Monday, Bianchi again tried to kill Tsuna with the same throwing soda can tactic, but Tsuna didn't even deign to acknowledge her and simply threw the can in the first trash can she saw along the way without bothering to cut off her conversation with Kyoko.

Of course, a trained hitwoman was not going to settle for failing her mission even after the third attempt. Bianchi took advantage of her home economics class to infiltrate the school and try again to achieve her goal.

The Committee boys and Kyoya himself patrolled the school at all hours, but Tsuna supposes that all the experience they have facing Wannabes leaves them in a very precarious position when it comes to facing a professional in their field. Tsuna couldn't blame them for not seeing her (even though Bianchi was standing in the middle of the school dressed completely in civilian clothes making her painfully noticeable), at the end of the day they were all simple teenagers against an adult who had been raised in the turbulence of the underworld.

When Tsuna saw that Bianchi changed the onigiris that Kyoko had prepared for her own, sse playfully approached Kyoko and exchanged her onigiris for hers with exaggerated coquetry, making Kyoko giggle, using the excuse that years ago she had claimed the monopoly of Kyoko' cooking, so she kept them all for herself and they would be her lunch while she winked at her friend a flirtatious eye that made all the other girls giggle while more than one boy blushed.

The next time Tsuna saw Bianchi again it was a particularly hot day, only this time not as an infiltrator actively trying to kill her...

But as Reborn's personal guest to help him with tutoring... who was actively trying to kill her.

Specifically to help with Home Economics and Art.

But while Bianchi returned to the kitchen to continue his experiments to create food that was twice as poisonous, the house bell rang and when Tsuna went downstairs to answer his mother's order, he ran into Hayato, who came to hang out and share a watermelon.

The universe works in strange ways.

When she was about asked him to please wait a little while she resolved a matter - mind you, a deal called Bianchi - Hayato out of nowhere dropped the watermelon and only managed to say "sister" before turning white as a sheet and collapsing on the floor clutching his stomach tightly while sweating profusely, apologizing quickly as he left in a hurry, practically crawling out the door.

Tsunayoshi blinked a few times processing what just happened before she heard a deep sigh behind her and Bianchi exclaimed, "He's always been like that. What a strange boy."

Tsuna turned to look at her before choosing to look down at Reborn, raising her eyebrows with flat eyes searching for answers.

"Bianchi and Gokudera are brothers. From different mothers."

"And considering that we are speaking about a renowned professional hitman who was actually trying to poison me for a while and the guy who as my right hand is aspiring to be my most trusted subordinate, you didn't consider that this was information that "I should have knowledge of previously because…?"

"It was irrelevant" – Reborn dismissed her without major contemplation, making Tsuna raise an eyebrow.

- Is Reborn establishing himself as an unreliable source of information, even in situations where her own safety might be compromised? But… why? What was exactly he looking to achieve…? If Reboern wanted Tsuna to work with him at this point he should have already realized that establishing himself as an unreliable person, antagonizing himself in front of her, was not exactly the way to make her cooperate…. Does he want Tsuna to develop her own information network…? What was the lesson here…? -

Seeing that she was not going to obtain any more usefull information from here, She decided to go out to looking for Hayato.

Fortunately (fortunately for her, not for him), she didn't have to look for too long as with his sickness he couldn't go far away. Tsuna found him leaning on a tree just a couple streets down.

"Hayato…?"

"I apologize for what happened. I used to live with my sister up until I was 8 years old. Back home, in our family castle, we used to host these pompous parties. When I was 6 years old, I was supposed to play a piano solo in front of all the guests. That was also the first time that my sister cooked some cookies for me… That was her first poisonous food. I din't realized until later that the cookies were poisonous. I felt really bad after eating those cookies, and my interpretation was awful.

At the end people like it anyways and my father was in a good mood so he congratulated Biachi and told her to makee cookies again.

Since then every time that I look at my sister I feel stomach ake."

"She sounds like she is a lot to deal with…"

"Yes. I hate her… I can not stay near my sister. Decima, please, can you take her out of the city?"

- I can not actually be feeling protective over Gokudera…-

"I'll see what I can do, but I accept suggestions if you have any."

"I have a plan! Before meeting Reborn she was obsessed with other man. He died on an accident but she hasn't got over him yet. If we find someone who looks like him, she will follow him to the end of the world. Here is a picture!"

And Bianchi's late ex looked exacly like the future Lambo.

That was ridiculously convenient.

"We might be able to get away with this sooner than we thought"

Of course, even when Lambo had direct orders of not using it, was ridiculously easy to get Lambo to do it. We managed to electrocute himself trying to kill Reborn (again).

How the hell was he even alive at this point?

And since Reborn was there, it was only a matter of seconds before Bianchi entered the room and saw him.

But, (- Why does there always have to be a 'but' with these people? -) Hayato let out the tiny, insignificant detail that the reason why Romeo - Bianchi's ex - died, was precisely because she poisoned him after an awful relationship.

So, despite Hayato's pleading, Bianchi became a permanent adition to their lives, joining Lambo as the third new tenant in her own house without her having much decision-making power in the matter because Reborn had talked about it with her mother and had convinced her (without needing more than a couple of words) that this was, in fact, a Good idea.

Tsuna tried to reason with her mother, but before she even tried she knew it would be a useless effort. Not when it was Reborn who had given the idea.

Not when Reborn had been introduced as a friend of her father.

It definitely did not help the little girl blind as a mole who came trying to kill her with some kind of explosive power after mistaken her for her designed target and had self-invited herself to stay around in Japan to affectionate her abilities and gain more experience .

Something that apparently could only happen if she stayed at Tsuna's Home. Again Thanks to Reborns intervention.

A tiny little thing, a year younger than Lambo called I-pin, with whom Lambo soon started a rivalry with - which nowadays seems to be another way to call 'being friends' -

.

.

.

And… Tsuna at this point had a karma with meeting new people on the way to school who tried to attack her.

Tsuna's first impression of Miura Haru was that she definitely should not have many friends.

A crazy, obnoxious, and entitled bi… girl.

You could accuse Tsuna of being too rough on her judgment But hey! Reborn was controlling her doze of caffeine in the morning. (Apparently, it was not healthy for a fifteen-year-old to take the dose equivalent of a double extra concentrated expresso every morning) and she was not on the best mood when they meet.

So what? Imprison her for being rude while dealing with abstinence syndrome.

Plus, Tsuna's first exchange with the girl relly did very little for her case.

It all started while during this mornining's walk to school, with Rebonr walking along with her, Kyoko and Hana over the concrete fences both of them encountered a black hired girl also balancing over the fences who in less of a second was in front of Reborn introducing herself and asking if he wanted to be her friend while blushing (and of course, because Reborn is Reborn he even knew where the girl lived.)

And Reborn, always true to himself of course said yes. Just for the girl to jump off the fence in a loud celebration.

When the girl asked Reborn if she could hug him, Reborn told her that such wasn't an easy thing since he was a hitman. (yes, he put out his hust and everything.)

And while up until know Tsuna was a mere spectator of the entire exchanged, being happily ignored by the weird girl.

She was roughly made once again part of the scene when after Reborn said that he was a hitman, the girl literally out of nowhere slapped Tsuna.

Tsuna took a few moments to process what had just happened before passing her tongue over her lips in her still-open mouth to turn her gaze to nail it directly on her eyes.

This Bitch Wants To Die.

You are dead.

You are so. fucking. dead.

"What are you teaching him, bastard? Babies are pure angels… and you are destroying that purity with the rottenness in your heart" Said Haru getting all over Tsuna's face completely unaware of the stare that Tsuna was giving her.

"Wow wow wow! Calm down, Lady!" Hana jumped in, putting herself between Tsuna and Haru while Kyoko pulled away Tsuna, who refused to break eye contact with the girl.

"What the hell is your problem?! You just go around the street slapping people in the face?!"

Hana intervened right in time to save the girl with absolutely no self-preservation instinct of what was absolutely coming her way while Kyoko did her thing calming Tsuna's murderous impulses as much as she could. "Plus, Tsuna has never taught absolutely anything to Reborn, when he came in he was already like that." Hana tried to reason with the girl.

"Liar! She is Reborn's older sister, isn't she?! I always see them together!" Haru Insisted.

"Yes, but they are not related!" Continued Hana.

"She is much worse then! She is rotting someone else's baby!" Said the girl before trying to pass Hana to get back at Tsuna's face.

- One can not stress enough how much Miura Haru has absolutely cero self-preservation instincts -

Tsuna hasn't said a word yet but she doesn't let the girl get away from her intense gaze for a single instant.

"Listen to me! You are not seeing Reborn ever again." Yelled the girl at Tsuna again.

And Reborn considered that was the right moment to jump in " My job is to raise Tsuna to be the teenth mafia boss, until then, I can not get away from her".

"What is that about the mafia?! That is going way too far, even for delinquents ideas of fun! You are even restraining Reborn!" Said the girl as she tried to throw a swing at Tsuna.

"Hey! The hell is wrong with you?!" Hana's patience finally completely run off and knowing fully well that Tsuna was definitely not in the right head space to be nice if this situation continuous for the way she was looking at the girl, she decided to push the girl away and just turn arround, grab Tsuna and Kyoko and take them out of there before this flew of the handle ...more than what they already have.

.

.

.

The next time they ran into the Crazy Girl, she was dressed in a mix of samurai armor, motorcycle helmet, and hockey gear.

Oh, you got to be kidding me…

"If Reborn-chan is truly a hitman, then you, who are a real mafia boss, must be quite strong. If you are strong, I will believe Reborn-chan and I will not complain about his life" The crazy girl said while putting on her helmet. "So please fight me," she finished as she raised her hockey stick to hit Tsuna.

"Okay that's enoght!" Tsuna roared. As she grabbed the jockey stick mid swing and stopped it dry on it's place. Not moving a sigle inch no matter how much Haru wrestled.

"I have more than enough of you bullshit. This ends now."

"I dont know who. the. fuck. you think that you are to just go around assaulting people…" Said Tsuna furiously as she pulled the stick out of Haru's hands in just one single pull.

"... but this shit ends up now!."- Tsuna declared as she threw the stick of the bridge.

But of course, you can not just espect someone with a non existent common sense or self preservation instinct to be rational

And seen her jokey stick fly of the bridge, the girl found nothing better to do with her life than to yell "My Stick!" before proceeding to throw herself off the bridge alongside the stick.

The brunet took a few moments to process what had just happened.

Tsuna blinked a couple of times. Took a big heavy breath and she straightened herself while closing her eyes.

God, you have to be shitting me.

"My fucking God I can not belive this." Tsuna said outloud before jumping of the bridge to save the girl, knowing fully well that between the river currents and what she was wearing she was absolutely going to drown herself if she didn't help.

It took Tsuna just a couple of seconds to reach the side of the bridge and jump off.

Tsuna was a good swimmer (and was not wearing extra heavy equipment) so it was not hard for her to reach the girl and save her from being driven away by the current.

…For then proceeded to drag her, cursing her completely outraged to the top of her lungs all the way back to the shore.

"You Crazy. Ass. Bitch! Did you want to kill yourself? Because there are way easier ways to unalive yourself, ones that does not imply burdening other people with you fucking bullshit!

What the fuck were you even thinking when you jump off that bridge over a fucking stick, eh?! Do you know what you have between your eyebrows?! Your brain bitch. Use it!

For fuck's sake!"

At the end of her rant, with a heavy pant Tsuna asked the girl if she had anything to seay on her defense.

To what the girl answered…

"You… You save me… The big sister is so cool! You jump from the bridge just to save little me like a knight in shinning armor! Mafia boss from now on you have Haru's heart!" - For then proceeding to invade Tsuna's personal space with a crushing hug.

And Tsuna must have some masochistic vein in her body that she was not aware of because considering that the girl almost drowned herself for her own stupidity just barely after trying to attack her (again.), Tsuna still felt enough pity for her to just allow her to hug her while letting out a soundfull sight.

"Come on, crazy lady… I invite you a tea. I would love to hear the explanation for the gratuitous attack."

"Yes!"

"Ahg. Just don't make me regret this"

And that is how Miura Haru and Sawada Tsunayoshi became friends.

Curiously enough when Tsuna brings Haru home, she finds a scene of the usual chaos with Reborn and Bianchi presumably taking a sunbath and a poor - now traumatized- a guy named Irie Soichi who was kind enough to bring Lambo home once again after he blew himself over an explosion (again).

Tsuna, who was in a particularly generous mood after all the emotions along the day, feeling petty for the boy, decided to invite him over to take some tea and sweet treats too.

-I mean, she was already bringing a crazy stranger home. One more, one less. It wasnt going to make a big diference. Plus, Reborn was not the only one entitled to bring random people to her home, it was literally HER house, and she could invite all the strangers that she wanted, Thank you very much. -

.

.

.

Tsuna is not happy that Bianchi brings poisoned food into his house, but he welcomes her in a good manner, putting the fact that Reborn can be constantly around him, moving aside as much as the girl wants so that they can be within reach. alone as a way of extending an olive branch.

With Lambo and I-pin she didn't have much choice. They were little children up to their necks in a shitty world, and now that they were part of Tsuna's life, she couldn't just let them go without knowing if they would really be okay. Even more so when there didn't seem to be any adult figures really present who cared about them.

Of course, that and there's also the fact that Tsuna is hoping that Biachi and the kids will distract Reborn enough for him to stop breathing on her neck.

Tsuna desperately wanted to have a serious conversation with Reborn about how, despite what her mother said, this wasn't actually his house, and he couldn't just have it to invite whoever he wanted.

Tsuna had no idea what the hell Iemitsu was up to for Tsuna to qualify as a possible heir to an Italian mafia of all things, but the fact that he was her sperm donor didn't give him the right to dispose of her, her time and much less to come and ruin her life whenever he felt like it.

How the fuck did he have the nerve to come and impose things when he hadn't even shown up at home for 3 years?

How the fuck was it possible that despite the fact that he was more than a thousand kilometers away, that she hadn't seen the tip of his nose in years, that motherfucker still had such power over her life?

And here was Reborn, as the meek herald of the apocalypse, completely committed to making her life more difficult in the name of the son of a bitch.

Tsuna wanted to explode

Wanted to scream

Wanted to reap something open

The feeling of rage... of helplessness... for having her hands tied, for not having the complete control she had achieved over her own life was making her want to tear off her own skin.

She wanted to Jab her nails and tear up her own flesh until the searing pain clouded the seething well of pure rage coursing through her veins.

The experience of being again in a situation so out of her control gave her such a visceral reaction that his bones were barely enough to contain it.

Her hyperintuition had not stopped being alert. Not active, but no longer asleep, as if it were in a constant state of wakefulness to be ready to warn her of any possible danger as soon as possible.

Her bones felt too small, her flesh pulsed, her esophagus burned, her stomach churned. This whole thing felt so wrong.

It made her want to vomit.

And not only was her mother no help, she was a total fucking zero at the left in the whole thing.

Her mother would never contradict a wish from her sperm donor.

Tsuna knew it well.

She knew it too well.

That's why he had to swallow all his anger and proceed with caution.

She knew Reborn didn't pose a direct threat to her and her mother but the guy was far from harmless. And that's without even taking into account whether or not he believed in being a professional hitman, much less being the best in the world in his field.

She could feel the headache coming.

Tsuna had to proceed with maximum caution. Yes, unlike before she had a very good trick up her sleeve that she could resort to. The bad thing is that considering the eyes that where on her if what Reborn claimed was true, then her trick up her sleeve had been de facto relegated to her last resource.

Using it before would bring much more problems and consequences than it would solve.

-But knowing it was there made breathing easier.-

Tsuna still didn't know which box in her mind to put Reborn in and that was dangerous. She knew that she still didn't have enough information about him to make a real decision about what role to assign him in this entire story.

As much as Reborn was there as her guardian, and thus part of his job was to make sure she stayed alive, Tsuna would be a complete fool to assume that meant that Reborn was on her side, but it would be too hasty to simply assume that he was against her when he had so much potential to be useful to her, after all, he was there to teach her. If Reborn could leave her prepare her... or at least well enough in the world her father lived in to be able to regain control of her own life, damn Tsunayoshi would take it.

But that damn ambiguity was what was killing her.

Her hyperintuition couldn't decide if he was someone trustworthy or not. She couldn't tell her if it would work for what she wanted, and that uncertainty was what was making her walk on eggshells in her own home.

Even if she decided to confront Reborn directly to resolve the matter, Tsuna didn't even know which way to take it.

She knew she had to show him that she could take him. Something that would make Reborn see that he couldn't do and undo whatever he wanted with her.

that he was not above her.

The thing is, she didn't knew how.

Tsuna knew that, considering the abilities of his interlocutor, being the one holding the pan by the handle would be impossible, but he had to show Reborn that he did not have a grip on her.

She had to make Reborn respect her.

An intellectual match? Reborn was completely immersed in a world she didn't know, with an infinite number of resources at her disposal. What kind of match? What would the rules be?

Strategy could not be for the same reason.

She highly doubts that pure Brute Force will make Reborn consider her.

It would have to be combat capability. Something that would make Reborn see that he had no power over her.

That Tsuna could wage fucking war on him if she wanted to.

Did he want Tsuna to obey him? Tsuna would show him that she could fight him every fucking step of the way.

But Tsuna knew that the moment he went on a warpath with Reborn, Reborn would make his life miserable to make him give in.

If she wanted to be truly effective in her message, she had to demonstrate that she was more than bark and biting words.

That she really had the ability to oppose him.

That no matter how rough he was with her, no matter how much he raised the bar, he wouldn't bend or break her.

Tsuna had to show him that she had fangs too.

Fangs capable enough to bite even him.

But for now... She would have to continue making the titanic effort to swallow the boiling iron that was running through her veins.

She didn't know enough yet, and Reborn could still prove tremendously useful in dealing with her sperm donor.

Chapter final Notes:

I mentioned the previous chapter on the notes but I thought It would be good to delve deeper into Tsuna's psychology regarding the entire situation she finds herself in with Reborn.
