The duo had continued their conversation as they enjoyed their food and company. Bell was happy that Daphne finally opened up to him and he earned a new friend.
Daphne was equally happy, enjoying her time with a smile as she felt the emotions of being around a friend. She enjoyed hearing the tales Bell told her of his time back in his home.
The two had long since finished their food and were just chatting as time seemed to have escaped them. However their time was soon interrupted when a voice interrupted.
"Excuse me." Both looked to see who had came to them and saw a jade haired Elf.
"Ah hello Riveria, fancy seeing you here." Bell said as he got looks from both women at the strange greeting.
Seeing that he just smiled a said "figure of speech from where I'm from."
"Ah, anyway I'm sorry for interrupting you. I actually visit this place fairly regularly and was surprised to see you here."
"Huh, small city. Oh before we forget, Daphne this is Riveria, Riveria this is Daphne my fellow Familia member and friend."
Hearing those words brought a small smile to the red head. Was it because he was nice, a gentleman or just proper manners? Nah she realized, it was just the way Bell was.
"Yes of course, my apologies miss Daphne." She said bowing slightly. Which didn't go unnoticed by the elves here. After finding out that the princess of Alf forest frequents the place they took it upon themselves to "guard" the royal Elf. Of course those there were the borderline fanatics as most were to intimidated. So imagine there shocked surprise when the woman walked up to a bunny.
"It's alright. But what can he do for you?" Daphne supposed she would have been embarrassed or stuttered if Bell didn't get her used to talking with a Royal, well Bell was in no way shape or form what she expected nor knew of Royals nor how they acted. But it was what it was.
"Yes actually. First I want to apologize for the sudden interruption but I would like to set up a personal meeting with you mister Caelum." Hearing that, he raised an eyebrow in questioned wonder.
As for the Elves who heard, oh boy. Poor man with the rumors about to explode.
"The reason?"
"I have a few things that I would like too ask you about and would appreciate it greatly if you could answer." She said before she leaned in to solidify the request.
"From one Royal to another." She said. If that request lit a fire. That action was dragon fire. From the Elves POV it looked like she showed him some cleavage to entice the boy. It didn't help either with Daphne' reaction of opened mouth shock. Now the elves ran out, calling for a crusade on the bunny that would dare cause their princess to act so "vulgar".
This of course went unnoticed by the three.
"And what makes you say that?" Bell asked, with a mastering of genuine confusion, even going so far as tilting his head.
"Don't try and fool me mister Caelum. And miss Daphne' reaction more than proved it for me." She said neutrally but a faint hint of sternness. Daphne retook control of her shock quickly after hearing that and looked quite sorry.
Bell gave a small smirk and said. "Maybe she was just shocked by such a sure statement."
In actuality, Riveria did have some doubts about it, too many things didn't line up nor make sense...ok EVERYTHING didn't make sense, but she couldn't get it out of her head about her first conversation with him at the Pub. Nor the fact he so easily understood, It wasn't the fact that he knew she was Royal, It was kinda well known.
No, what got her thinking that was the words behind his conversation about if her father ever wanted her to return. Those words held weight, not just in the words themselves but in the tone. It was full of understanding and dare she even say wiriness; she thought she was going off the ball a bit with thinking him Royalty.
But she knew for certain he had to be at the very least of the Nobility. However that was dwarfed by her witness of his magic. So she may of volunteered to figure the boy out as the display of his magic was world changing and she wanted to know more.
"You're Good Caelum, but your still too young to fool me."
"Please call me Bell lady Riveria, and I'd say your years here have canceled that out." He said in a mild jab getting a moderate jeer from the elf.
"Besides, I'm older than I look." He smiled as the surprised look of Daphne went ignored.
"But all right, I'll agree. Daphne will you be alright heading home on your own?" He said surprising her and getting an eyebrow raise from the elf.
"U-Umm y-yes I can get this stuff home just fine." She said.
"Thank you Daphne." He said giving her a kind smile as she gathers the shopping items and left.
"You care deeply for her." She said as she saw the smile he gave.
She dared not to make assumptions but she thought there was a romantic love in that smile..though she was no expert.
"Yes. And I'll protect her with everything I've got." He said firmly as she took the empty seat for just a few more moments.
"So, there is a section of wall not far from here that will do."
"Alright, let me get the check and we'll leave." He said motioning for the check. As they waited for the change he asked a quick question.
"How was that cheesecake?" He said smiling.
It was very good thank you." She said. Not wanting to remember the teasing she got from everyone Loki especially at how she treated the food.
"Here's your change sir, please come again."
"Thank you I will."
The walk to there was quiet. Bell didn't mind it, but he did notice every stare from the elves and others, but the elevens especially. 'Figures.' Bell thought. After 20 minutes of walking they had reached their place. And Bell was the first to speak.
"so, what is it you wish to talk about?"
"What kind of magic do you use?" She asked bluntly.
Despite the silence of their walk up to the wall her mind was racing as to what to ask him. So enormously in fact, that unknown to Bell she genuinely feared that should word get out about the magic he used, the elders of the forest of Alf and especially her father; a "discussion" would brake loose too put it charitably. If her father and the elder Elves ever plan some actions to hinder, stop, or even try and take the magic for themselves; nothing good would come from any decision. Hell, mages the world over would hound and prod for the rest of the boys life. Mages like herself might be idealistic, but not all Elves were like that. There were a LOT of elves who thought that a certain level of magical knowledge should rest forever in the hands of responsible Elves, not some short-lived species of humans or as some of the extreme elves call them, "mon-keigh" .
While most humans could never hope to reach the magical level of true High Elf magicians, an advance on them over a certain borderline combined with other advantages like his, could become a threat for the Royal forest. And such threats had to be contained, taken, used, or... eliminated...
"why?" He asked.
"Why?!" She said shocked at such a question he gave. He had said it like it was the most innocent thing in the world! He acted like it was something common.
Regaining her composer after being hit with such a left hook she decided to be truthful. In a way she felt like she owed it to him for him giving her a "wake up call" to the reality of her lineage.
"Your magic is something that has never been seen before in the world. No records, no stories, no lore, nothing. By all accounts of history, you are the first person in known history to use TRUE chant less magic.
"True chant less magic?"
"Magic has to be chanted, weather that's several sentences to complete a spell, Concurrent chanting, or "chant-less magic" where only one or two words are needed to cast a spell. From what we saw with your fight with that rhino you said no words and you called upon your weapons and spells out of thine air. You now see the interest?" Rivera explained.
And to that Bell gave her what she wanted, it was also a way to see if this was leverage on him or something of that matter.
"I understand now" He said, dropping his normal tone to that of a Royal.
Riveria was surprised. Despite all her theories and near certainty that he was of Royal blood, the fact that he caved to her and answered her suspicions was still a surprise to her. It brought a wave of memories to her from when she had to sit in court along with her father or in his office on meetings. But what really floored her was his eyes. Gone were the shine of a boy and the gleam of a boys eyes. And replaced was the dullness of a man's, a man who had seen much and she feared done much. A man who knew the crushing wight of responsibility
"You wish to hold this information on me as ransom in the hopes that I teach you my magic?"
Riveria was shook by his statement, and it showed. "N-no! I would never. I was just telling you so that you'd be more careful. Mages the world over will hound you for your secrets, I even fear that Elves will hunt you to ensure you don't become a "threat." She said, though Bell knew there was more to that than what she said.
"Ah, but that's not entirely true now, is it? We both know there has to be something else than your good heart, was it Loki? Finn? Who asked you to come to me and gouge out this information on me? And for what purpose do they plan on doing with my confession?" Bell said, crossing his arms.
To that Riveria was silent. Until she spoke up some more.
"I admit I do not know what it is they will do. For now, Loki does not seem to be all that interested, and Finn is getting more and more interested in you. I admit Finns interest was my doing, as I had asked him in helping me find out more about you."
"And have I quelled those questions?"
"My curiosity was peaked on the night when you called us out on weather I would return to the Royal forest if my father asked me to or if he sent for me forcefully and if my Familia would fight for me."
"I still fail to see how that has anything to do with anything."
"It wasn't what you had said, it was how you had said it." Riveria said as Bell just raised an eyebrow at her statement.
"You sounded like..like you knew that would happen, like.. like you had seen all this before." She finished.
"I've never seen a runaway heiress to a throne before. But I have seen death before." Bell said tiredly.
It made her heart sad if not break a bit. he was so young, yet she saw it in his eyes. The eyes that should never be in the eyes of a young man... at least, not yet. She knew fully that heavy was the burden of royalty. but to see the eyes of guilt, of loss, of sorrow, of one who had seen too much death in such a young boy?!
"I am sorry you've seen that." Riveria said. And Bell just hummed.
"So, you got what you've long wondered. anything else?" Bell asked returning to his adventurer persona.
That amazed yet in a way scared her. Amazed that he could switch moods and masks. Yet scared that he could do just that so young.
"Well.. I did have more questions as to where you come from." She asked.
"I Can't tell you that Riveria. that's personal." Bell said.
"I understand. Thank you for your time and being honest with me." Riveria bowed.
"I told you nothing about my magic." He said raising his eyebrow.
"I've got what I wanted most. And besides. I believe that the less people know about your magic, the better." Riveria said.
"Thank you." Bell said surprised but touched.
"I promise to not say anything, but I can't for the others who saw you."
"I understand. Thank you for your honesty."
"And I thank you for yours..Your majesty." Riveria bowed her head.
"And too you, Your Highness. Bell said as he placed his arm over his chest and bowed.
"But I am not royal, not anymore." Bell said.
"I understand, I'll respect that if you do the same for me." She asked.
"We have terms." Bell chuckled a little. To which Riveria returned with a smile.
"Do you mind if we talked on a different topic for a few more moments?" She asked.
Bell looked surprised for a moment, before giving her a small smile as he nodded.
Meh. had this for nearly a year sitting around. festering. So, here you go. Maybe it'll free the writers block now. Meh
