Here's the next chapter!
Sorry for the wait! Gonna do a couple chapters of this before I do another story.
This was going to be just one long chapter, but I decided to split it into two once I reached 48 pages.
I want to apologize in advance for making anyone uncomfortable. I am putting a variety of body shapes and sizes in this story, so there will be weird body proportions.
Disclaimer: I do not own YoKai Watch. Not at all!
Now, let's resume our story!
A Hunger for Remembrance/Fun Future Friendships Forged Part 1
Three days later…
"Alright, this is where Advanced History is happening," Gavin said with a yawn as he walked into a dark classroom and turned on the light, with Whisper floating in right behind him. The classroom had light creamish yellow walls with very thin dark yellow stripes on them and a matching ceiling, while the floor was made of light brown strips of wood. A couple dark brown ceiling fans hung from the ceiling, with multiple gentle yellow rectangular lights shining from the ceiling as well, and a couple large windows with white trim sat in the wall opposite them. On the walls hung different types of maps of the world, ranging from economical ones to geographical ones to immigration ones. A large whiteboard took up almost all of one wall, with a dark brown podium on wheels sitting to the right of it and a large and long dark brown wooden table sitting a few feet in front of it. The room had five elevated rows of dark brown wooden desks that were connected to each other and had comfy black chairs behind them, with him counting fifty chairs in total. A black computer sat next to the podium on its own dark brown wheeled wooden table, a large black trashcan sat in one corner of the room, a large black analog clock with white markings hung on the wall above the door, and a white projector hung down from the high ceiling and aimed towards the whiteboard, a slit in the ceiling right in front of the whiteboard being the only sign that a projector screen was in the room. "Huh, I kinda figured the teachers would be here already," he continued as he walked up the dark brown stairs to the second row and sat down in the second seat from the beginning of the row on the side of where the door was. "I mean it is 8 in the morning," he finished as he opened his dark emerald green backpack and pulled out the required books for the class along with some writing utensils and a thick notebook.
"What time do classes normally start whis?" Whisper asked him with curiosity as she yawned.
"Eight thirty is the standard time," He replied as he looked towards the doorway. "I'm also very thankful I did a little dual enrollment in high school and only have to take four classes each year instead of five or more," he continued with a smile. "I have this class and then at one in the afternoon I have 3D printing."
"That one I am most excited to see!" Whisper said excitedly, before they then heard footsteps approaching along with the sound of rolling wheels, prompting them to look at the open dark brown doorway they had entered the room through, it being fully open since he'd pushed the dark brown wooden door all the way into the room. "Oh, now who could that be whis?" she questioned.
A few seconds later, two women walked into the room, with one pushing a somewhat small cart covered in a smooth black cloth that had a few objects underneath it.
The woman pushing the cart appeared to be in her rather early 30s and stood 5 foot 4 inches tall, with light gold skin covering the visible parts of her body and a smile on her face. Her large eyes were a moderate rose color, with short black eyelashes around them, thin light gold eyebrows, and moderate rose lipstick on her luscious lips. Her hair was like that of a rainbow, but grayscale instead, with her lighter gray bangs ending right above her eyes while the darker parts ran down to the middle of her back. A light tan pith helmet sat on the top of her head with a somewhat green fabric wrapped around the middle of it several times and a black strap running across the front of the brim, the helmet's brim being somewhat short. A somewhat light green gold-buttoned shirt sat on her athletic body, with the sleeves rolled up to right above her elbows, dark green pockets on the bottom of the shirt, and a dark green pocket with a gold compass design sewn into it on her left breast. The shirt was unbuttoned a little, exposing a small amount of her large cleavage, and the collar of her shirt was dark green as well. A black belt ran around her waist, and somewhat light green shorts with dark green cargo pockets sat on her large ass, ending right below the middles of her thighs. A dark brown pouch sat on her left leg right above her knee, held in place by a thick strap, while dark brown hiking boots with thick white laces sat on her feet and ended at the middle of her calves.
The other woman, who held a small dark purple cloth bag in her right arm that had a gold trophy cup as a clasp and a coffee cup in her left hand, appeared to be in her late 30s and stood 5 foot 6 inches tall, with a grumpy look on her face. Her eyes were a brilliant cornflower blue color, had thin brilliant orange eyebrows above them, and had somewhat long black lashes around them. Her hair was a very light gold color and cut rather short, with the curved ends of her hair being located right above the base of her neck while her bangs sat a couple of inches above her eyes. Her skin was a brilliant orange color, and her body appeared to be decently curvy. Round purple earrings with gold rims hung from her small ears, and a light magenta polo neck hugged her large chest and flat belly, with a grayish mulberry coat sitting on top of it. The coat was left completely unbuttoned at the top, showing off the gold necklace that hung around her neck, with a gold pendant on it that consisted of a gold circle with a gold ring around it, and the sleeves ended at her wrists. A simple grayish mulberry skirt hung from her wide hips down to right above her knees, with pitch black stockings running up her shapely legs and disappearing underneath her skirt. Finally, completing her look was a pair of simple grayish mulberry heels that had short heels on them and rounded toes.
"What on Earth?!" Whisper exclaimed with shock as she stared at the two women, with Gavin staring at them with surprise as well, although his eyes were looking at just the woman with the adventurer outfit. "Why are they colored like that whis?!" She continued while the woman with the pith helmet whipped her head towards them and smiled.
"Well hello there!" she said with a friendly voice that sounded full of energy and gave them the impression she was a thrill-seeker while she came to a stop in front of the table. "You're here rather early!" she continued while the other woman looked at him firmly for a few seconds before letting out a soft "Hmph" and heading over to the computer. "What's your name young man?"
"My name is Gavin Woodring, Miss Yearling," He replied.
"Oh please, just call me Daring Do," She answered with a warm smile as she looked him over. "The only people who call me Miss Yearling are my publishers and lawyers," she continued while the other lady turned on the computer and sipped some of her drink as it booted up.
"So um, what brings you here Miss Do? Are you helping her with class today or giving a lecture or something?" he asked with curiosity, making her smirk in response and chuckle a little.
"You'll find out when class starts in a half hour, Mr. Woodring," she said, with the tone of her voice changing a little when she said his last name, sending shivers down his spine.
'…Does she know?' He questioned as he looked at her, his eyes widening slightly with a bit of fear as he did so. 'Does she know the truth about me?' he continued while Daring Do turned and pushed a small black button on the wall by the whiteboard, causing a white projector screen to start sliding down from the slit in the ceiling.
"'Daring Do?' What an odd name for an oddly colored human whis," Whisper said with surprise as she rubbed her nonexistent chin while watching Daring Do step back and adjust the cloth on the cart a little. "Why do these two humans look so different from the others we've seen so far? I certainly don't remember seeing any since I got out of the capsule with your help except on TV and on your phone, and that's obviously due to special effects!"
Gavin opened his mouth to respond, but paused before he said anything as he remembered that no one else could see her except for him since she was a Yokai. 'Fuck, that's going to make things much more complicated!' he thought before he looked down in thought. 'How am I going to talk to her now with them in the room?' he questioned before his eyes soon landed on his open notebook. 'Ohhh, I know!' he continued before he pulled out some sheets of paper and started to write on them. 'This should work!' he finished with a smile while Daring Do looked at Gavin and smirked a little, which Whisper noticed.
'Hmm, now what is that all about?' She questioned as she looked at the woman, who then glanced over in her direction before she turned her attention back to the cart. 'Hmmmm,' she hummed in thought before she heard the sound of paper being slid across a smooth surface nearby, catching her attention. 'What's that?' she questioned as she looked down at the desk and saw that Gavin had some pieces of paper next to him with writing on them. She then saw him tap a finger on them while looking at her once Daring Do and the other woman weren't looking at him, and he pointed at her and then the paper.
"Is that for me to read?" she asked him, prompting him to nod before he looked away at the clock to see how long they had till class started. "Alright then. Let me take a look," she continued before she floated down and spread the pieces of paper out a little.
The writing read:
Whisper,
For class I'll have to talk to you with notes or by whispering so they don't think I'm crazy. Not sure about between classes yet. As for your question about the odd coloration and name, the reason they look like that and have odd names is not really understood or known. But many historians believe that thousands and thousands of years ago a few ancestors of humans ended up looking like that for some unknown reason and it's stayed with humanity until now, getting more and more prevalent in the world's population. Again, it's not really known how they ended up like that.
And the majority of the town is actually like them, as is the world. Over 78% of the world, I think, and it's been that way for a while. You just haven't noticed because you've been so focused on how the city's physical structure has changed and less on the people, which I can understand happening since you've been locked away for so long. It's happened to me before too.
Also, Daring Do, whose real name is A.K. Yearling, is an explorer who's well known around the world for her adventures in finding ancient artifacts and relics from ancient civilizations. They've even made written accounts of her adventures that she sells to raise money for various charities! I have no idea why she's here, but seeing her in person is very exciting!
"I was pretty focused on that, wasn't I?" Whisper said somewhat quietly while blushing with embarrassment as she reread his writing a couple of times. "My sincerest apologies!" she continued, prompting him to nod a little before her eyes widened with realization. "Wait, Daring Do is a what?!" she exclaimed while Daring Do started chuckling.
"What is so funny, Miss Do?" The mulberry-wearing woman said firmly, her voice sounding somewhat grumpy and uptight with an accent that he thought sounded British, but Gavin wasn't quite sure.
"Oh, I was just remembering how upset Dr. Caballerona was after I rescued the Goblet of Griffos from her," Daring replied with another chuckle. "Oh, she looked like she'd eaten a barrel of pinecones covered in hot sauce!" she continued while the other woman frowned and resumed typing on the computer.
"Huh, I bet that was quite the sight," Gavin said with a chuckle of his own as he imagined the villainous women reacting to losing such a priceless artifact to her nemesis.
"I can't believe it!" Whisper exclaimed with shock as she looked from the paper to Daring Do. "She's a famous explorer?! What is she doing here?!" she asked, prompting him to shrug. "Hmmm, well, in any case, this is an exciting moment!" she continued with a large smile as the other woman turned on the projector and typed on the computer some more, bringing up a presentation.
Just then, they all heard the sound of more footsteps in the hallway, and he, Whisper, and Daring Do all looked at the doorway expectantly. Soon, they started seeing other students walk in, and they stared at Daring Do with awe and shock when they spotted her, with some stopping in their tracks or whispering "It's her!" over and over again.
'Huh, looks like it's going to be a female dominated class for me again,' Gavin thought with a smile and small chuckle as he watched the students file into the room and sit down. He wasn't really that surprised, as all of his classes at the college, as well as other classes he'd seen going on when walking down hallways between his classes, had been female dominated, with usually more than three-quarters of a class being female, which was due to the world having a pretty good gender imbalance, with more women born each year than men. There was also the fact that not a ton of guys went to Springdale University, instead going to universities in far off cities. 'Nice! I wonder how many guys will be in this class? Five? Four? Three?' he questioned as more and more students entered the room and sat down in their seats, with one female student, who stood about 5 foot 4 inches tall and appeared to be 20 years old, sitting to his right and looking at him with a smile while Whisper looked at the various colorations of the students and commented on them, finding some to be more pleasing than others.
"H-Hi!" She said with a bit of nervousness in her voice, which sounded gentle, maybe even a little shy and somewhat low in tone. Her skin was a light yellowish gray color, and her large eyes were dark purple with thick black eyelashes and somewhat thick light yellowish gray eyebrows, with a pair of simple black squarish glasses in front of them that had one faux diamond each on the outside edge of each lens frame and white tape wrapped several times around the middle of her glasses. Her hair was brilliant amaranth in color, with moderate purple and grayish violet highlights running through it. Her bangs were tied up on the top of her head with the help of a black hair tie tipped with large grayish pink beads.
A dark gray sweater with a very thick ribbed collar sat on her upper body, preventing him from seeing what kind of body shape she had. The sleeves were long and ended at her wrists with thick ribbed black cuffs, and black leggings sat on the lower portion of her body, hugging her large butt and thick thighs. A pair of brilliant amaranth sneakers with moderate purple laces and the symbol of a purplish black crescent moon surrounded by three four-pointed grayish pink stars on the sides of them sat on her feet and a couple fuzzy grayish pink balls sat on the front of her sweater, acting as fake buttons. Finally, a large grayish violet backpack with the same symbol as her shoes on the back of it and moderate purple straps sat next to her along with a matching fabric bag.
"M-My name's Moondancer. What's your's?" She asked him, prompting Whisper to say "What an odd name!" which amused Gavin a little.
"My name is Gavin Woodring, Moondancer. It's nice to meet you," He said before holding out a hand for her to shake, which she did, albeit with a somewhat shaky hand that had brilliant amaranth and grayish violet nail polish on her short nails. "What year are you?" he asked her with curiosity while Whisper floated around the girl, looking her up and down with an analyzing eye. "I'm a junior."
"I'm a-a-also a j-junior," She replied with a warmer smile growing onto her face while letting go of his hand. "Isn't it exciting we have Daring Do here today?!" she continued with excitement. "I've heard she's made a deal with the new president of the university, but nothing else! Have you?"
"No, I haven't heard a thing. I um, I didn't pay attention to what was going on with the teachers or president of the university this year due to being busy," he said while adding 'With learning about Yokai and revealing my past to Whisper and Jibanyan.'
"Hmmm, yes, she doesn't really look like she gets out that much," Whisper said from Moondancer's right, annoying Gavin a little while Moondancer's smile lessened a little.
"Oh, well that's too b-b-bad!" Moondancer replied before they heard an "Ohmygosh!" ring out from the doorway along with the sound of sneakers squealing on the floor for a second, prompting them to look at the doorway.
There, leaning one arm against the wall while panting heavily, was another female student who stood 5 foot 5 inches tall and appeared to be 20 years old. She had moderate cerise eyes with thin light grayish cerulean eyebrows and short black eyelashes, pale light grayish cerulean skin, and rainbow hair, with her bangs being somewhat long while her hair ran down her back to her butt. A white t-shirt with the image of a white cloud with a black outline and a lightning bolt that was red, yellow, and blue in color extending from it sat on her athletic body, with the collar of the shirt colored black. A somewhat light blue short sleeve jacket sat open on top of the shirt, with red, yellow, and blue-striped wristbands on her wrists and the collar of the jacket turned upwards. A white and bright pink striped skirt hung from her wide hips down to the middles of her thighs, with a pair of black athletic shorts underneath that ended right above her knees. Somewhat light blue boots that look a lot like sneakers sat on her feet and ended near the tops of her calves, with white trim around the tongue of the shoes, white laces, white toes and heels, and white soles. Red, yellow, and blue striped socks could be seen peeking out above the tops of the shoes, and a sky-blue backpack sat on her back with rainbow straps and zippers along with multiple tags of all sorts on it.
"OH…MY…GOSH!" The girl exclaimed with excitement between pants as she looked at Daring Do, who smiled warmly and chuckled as she looked at the girl. Her voice gave off the impression that she was competitive and friendly, and it sounded slightly low in pitch to him. "DARING DO!"
"Rainbow Dash, good to see you!" Daring said happily before she looked up at the clock. "Now take your seat so we can get started!" she continued with a somewhat firm tone, prompting Rainbow to say "Yes ma'am!" before she hurried up the stairs extremely quickly and sat down in the seat to his left, a giant grin on her face.
"Well she's certainly excited!" Whisper said as she looked at Rainbow, with Gavin smiling as he looked at her, amused at her excitement. "And I have to say, she is quite the colorful character!" she continued while Rainbow looked at Daring Do with pure excitement on her face.
"Good morning everybody!" Daring Do said to everyone with a smile on her face. "I hope you've all had your coffee, because we have some big news for you! I'm Daring Do, as you all know, and this is Ms. Harshwhinny!" she continued as she gestured to the mulberry-wearing woman with a hand. "I'll be helping her teach your Advanced History class when I'm not-"
"WHAT?!" Several people exclaimed with shock, with Rainbow being the loudest, standing up to her feet as she stared at Daring Do, which made Gavin jump a little.
"Alright everybody, settle down!" Ms. Harshwhinny stated firmly as she glared at them all. "I will not have chaos in my-I mean, our class!" she continued with a frown, prompting them to all fall silent, except for Rainbow who was muttering "Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!" with pure excitement as she hopped up and down on her feet. "Miss Dash! Sit down!" she told the student firmly with narrowing eyes.
"Dash, I like your enthusiasm, but you better do as she says. You don't want to be enemies with Ms. Harshwhinny," Daring Do said, prompting Rainbow to nod quickly and let out a small squeal of excitement before she sat down in her seat, her hands clutching her knees tightly.
"WHAT?! She's teaching?! Oh, I can tell that this is going to be a wonderful class!" Whisper exclaimed with excitement, making Gavin smirk.
'Well that was a quick turnaround!' He thought as he glanced at his Yokai butler and friend before he looked at the rest of his class and saw that out of the thirty students in the class, he was the only guy. 'Huh, that's a first! I thought there'd be at least one other guy in here,' he continued before Daring Do started to speak again, catching his attention.
"Now then, as I was saying, when I am not adventuring, I will be teaching here along with Ms. Harshwhinny," Daring Do stated with a smile as she looked at them all. "I look forward to getting to know you all personally," she continued, with her eyes landing on Gavin as she said "personally," which sent shivers down his spine for some unknown reason. "Now then, Ms. Harshwhinny has some things to say before we begin class, so please pay attention!" She said emphatically before Ms. Harshwhinny started to speak.
"Hello, I am Ms. Harshwhinny, and I expect you to refer to me as such," Ms. Harshwhinny said firmly as she sipped her drink some more while she looked at them all carefully. "As my colleague said, I will be teaching Advanced History with her, and if you take Social Studies, you will also have me," she continued, causing a couple of them to gain shocked looks. "The rules for this class are simple. Rule 1, no using your cell phones in class," she stated, causing several people to groan, with a couple going "Oh come on!" "If I hear one go off, you have one warning before I take it for the rest of class. Rule 2, homework must be turned in on time, or I dock two points for each day you don't turn it in until it becomes an F grade. Rule 3, no talking, whispering, or passing notes between each other during class time. If you wish to socialize in the classroom before class starts, that is fine, but keep the volume down. Rule 4, if you have magic, use it only to take notes. If you cheat with it you will be caught and reported to the dean's office," she continued while pulling out a stack of paper, causing more murmuring.
"I'm sorry, did she just say 'if you have magic?!'" Whisper repeated with great confusion as she looked from Ms. Harshwhinny to Gavin, who nodded in response while he looked at Ms. Harshwhinny expectantly. "WHAAAAAAAAT?! But very few humans can use magic! At least, back in my day not many could!" Whisper stated with alarm as she looked at the students and the teachers with wide eyes, trembling a little as she did so. "Why did she say it? Why?!" she said as she looked at Gavin for an answer, prompting him to tap on the paper next to him again. "GRRRRRRRRRRR! I can't wait an hour and a half for answers! I need them now!" She exclaimed as she floated right in front of him and gripped his cheeks hard while pressing her face into his, her eyes directly in front of his.
'Holy shit!' Gavin thought, nearly yelling it out loud but managing to subdue it to a muffled grunt as he jumped a bit from the sudden move from Whisper. 'Whisper! Don't do that!' he continued as he frowned a little while looking at the Yokai, who continued to stare hard into his eyes, which unnerved him a bit. He then shook his head a little while moving his hand up and gently pushing against the left side of her head/body to get her off him. 'Not now! I'm in class!' he finished while fearing that everyone would be noticing him pushing against air and think he was crazy or something.
"Grrrrrr, fine! I'll wait!" Whisper growled after he pushed hard on her for about fifteen seconds, letting go of his face and floating away for a few feet, making him sigh with relief while lowering his hand. "But you have to give me answers as soon as class is over!" she continued, prompting him to nod while thinking 'That was the plan Whisper!' before he turned his attention back to Ms. Harshwhinny.
"Finally, My office hours and contact information and Miss Do's office hours are posted on the syllabus, which you will get via email as well as a paper copy Miss Do will pass out now," she stated as she handed Daring Do the paper stack. "We will all go over the syllabus now and then start the lecture. If you have any questions during the lecture, make sure to raise your hand," she said firmly as Daring Do started handing out the syllabus copies to everyone, while Whisper kept her arms crossed as she floated near Gavin, her narrowed eyes trained on him. "I do not like it when students blurt things out without being called on, as it's quite rude," she continued while Gavin got a copy of her syllabus and started to look at it while also putting away the notes he'd written for Whisper, not wanting anyone else to see them.
"Now then, does everyone have a copy of the syllabus?" Daring Do asked a couple minutes later as she came to a stop at the bottom of one of the sets of stairs and looked at the various students. "Everyone has one? Good! Then let's go through it and start this lecture!" She continued with a grin and pump of her fist before she headed back over to the covered cart while Ms. Harshwhinny cleared her throat and started to speak once more.
As she did so, Gavin thought 'This is definitely going to be an interesting class! Very, very interesting!' while he looked at the syllabus.
An hour and a half later…
"Now then, do be sure to be thorough on your homework!" Ms. Harshwhinny said as the students started to pack up their things and leave the classroom.
"And we'll see you again Wednesday!" Daring Do added with a large smile while the students waved at her as they left. "Also, I won't be giving autographs right now, as I said earlier," she added as several students held out various objects for her to sign, causing them to gain disappointed looks.
"I'll see you around Gavin. It was nice meeting you," Moondancer said to him with a warm smile as she put her backpack on and grabbed her bag before she headed to the stairs. "M-Maybe we could study sometime together," she continued while blushing a bit as she looked away from him, a bead of sweat running down her brow as she walked down the stairs.
"That sounds like a good idea Moondancer," he replied, making her smile widely as she reached the doorway, which he didn't see since he was currently bent over packing his bag. "I know I'll need help with this class since history is not my strongest suit," he continued before she walked out of the room along with some other students. He then finished packing his things and got up from his seat before he headed towards the classroom doorway, but before he reached the doorway, Daring Do spoke.
"Excuse me Mr. Woodring," she said, prompting him to stop and look at her while Whisper hovered next to him, her arms still crossed as she looked at him firmly. "Have a good day! I look forward to seeing you in class again!" She continued with a warm smile, making him blink a couple times before he smiled back at her.
"Thank you very much for the compliment! I look forward to being back in class on Wednesday as well and seeing you and Ms. Harshwhinny," he replied, making Daring Do smile wider while Ms. Harshwhinny let out a soft "Hmph!" in response as she logged out of the computer, her grumpy demeanor having never once left her during the lecture. 'Okay, I think she knows the truth, but I'm not 100% certain,' he thought before he turned and left the classroom while Daring Do turned to Ms. Harshwhinny and grinned widely. 'If she does, I pray she keeps it quite!'
"Do you know who that boy is?" She quietly asked the woman with a bit of excitement, who let out another "Hmph" in response.
Gavin hummed as he stepped out into the hallway, which was decently wide and had a decently high ceiling, along with multiple people in it. Said hallway had somewhat dark blue smooth floors with dark blue swirling lines scattered all over it, very light green walls with silver swirling lines on them that were covered in photos, maps, and diagrams of various things and people, and a very pale brown color sat on the ceiling with silver swirling lines on it as well along with multiple gentle yellow and white rectangular lights with dark brown metal frames.
"Okay, now then, I'll-"
"-Give me an answer as to why Ms. Harshwhinny said 'no magic' in the beginning of that lovely and highly informative class!" Whisper said, cutting him off as she floated in front of his face.
"I will, once I'm in a more isolated place," he replied quietly as he looked around at the busy hallway before he and Whisper headed to the right, as he knew that one of the exit/entrance doors to the building was in that direction. "After we do that, I'll do a little bit of homework, and then have lunch at 11:30," he continued as they went, soon reaching the four large glass doors that served as one of the exits and entrances of the building, with the glass being frosted and having cherry blossom patterns in the glass. They then walked through the doors out onto the large dark grey concrete block that sat in front of the doors before heading down a sidewalk leading away from the building.
"Alright, that tree over there looks like a good spot," he said as he looked at a large Japanese Red Pine sitting on a small hill along with several other trees next to a somewhat large stream. "No one's around there right now," he continued before he started to walk towards it with Whisper. He soon reached it in after about ten minutes of walking and sat down with his back to the base and his face looking at some of the buildings on campus. "Alright, so you want to know about magic and how people are dealing with it now?" he asked Whisper, who nodded furiously a few times.
"Okay, well, I'm not the most knowledgeable person on the subject, although magic does interest me, so forgive me if I don't explain things well or don't know every answer you want," he stated, before he sighed heavily as he leaned his head back against the tree. "So basically, about 110 or so years ago magic users ended up becoming public knowledge by complete accident at a market in America, and pretty much every magic user is an oddly colored person, with very few normally colored people using magic, as far as I know. Now, most magic users can only do a couple types of magic, none of them being detecting yokai or spirits or anything. It's also rare that one can do more than that, although it hasn't been unheard of, as some priests and other religious authorities can be that way, at least according to some of the texts about magic I've read and with all the legends and stories as well," he explained as he looked at Whisper, whose eyes were wide with surprise. "I don't know how many there are now, or who all in the school or town is a magic user. And as far as I know, I wasn't given any magic from Kami, although for all I know I do have it and it's sealed away or something. I don't know."
"H-H-How did people react to the revelation that magic exists?" Whisper asked with a low voice. "I'm sure it didn't go well."
"Actually, from what I've read, it went okay for the most part," Gavin replied, making her eyes widen even more. "I mean, yeah people were freaked out at first, but it's been relatively smooth sailing for the most part, I think," he continued before shrugging. "I'm not 100% certain though. I'd have to check online. But anyways, yeah, magic exists and people know about it," he finished as he looked at Whisper with a smile.
"I…I can't believe it!" Whisper said with awe in her voice as she closed her eyes and turned away from him. "More humans can use magic?! Oh, that's terrifying news for the Yokai Community!"
"Hey, I did say that none of them have been able to detect yokai or spirits with magic. If they could, that would more than likely make the news or be in textbooks," Gavin replied, before another thought occurred to him. "And besides, you really think Yokai would still be messing with people today if they could be found with magic?" he asked her, prompting her to hum in thought.
"Well, no, they wouldn't, whis," She said, before shaking her head. "I mean, of course they wouldn't! I know that!" She continued as she turned to him with a huge smile on her face, acting as if she hadn't been wrong at all.
"Riiight," Gavin replied with a smirk and a shake of his head before he pulled out his homework for Advanced History and started to do it while Whisper pondered over the fact that magic was public knowledge now.
It took him about twenty minutes to complete his homework, and once he put it all away, he turned to Whisper. "So, what should we do now? It's 10:30, and the dining hall doesn't open until 11:30," he said to the Yokai, who hummed in thought as she rubbed her non-existent chin with a hand, before she spotted something.
"Hmmm, perhaps you should deal with the rabbit that's running right at you," She replied.
"The what?" he said with confusion before he turned to look down the slope, where he saw an all-white rabbit a foot away from him. "A rabbi-Ow!" he exclaimed as the rabbit jumped up and headbutted him right in the nose before landing in his lap while he clutched his nose with a hand. "What the fuck?! Why did you do that?" he questioned as he looked at the rabbit with a frown, while the rabbit looked back at him with its black eyes while holding a white round winged, dusky lime green bodied butterfly hair pin in its mouth.
"Angel!" A somewhat high-pitched female voice said from in front of him, catching his and Whisper's attention. Quickly approaching them with a frown on her face was a 5 foot 6 inch tall woman who appeared to be 20 years old and had pale light goldish gray skin on her curvy body. Her hair was pale light grayish rose in color and hung down the right side of her face and head down to her chest, the end of it curling inwards several times while the rest of it hung down her back to just past her butt. Her eyes were a moderate cyan color and surrounded by rather long black eyelashes, with thin pale light grayish rose eyebrows above them. A simple white sleeveless and buttonless blouse with a butter yellow round winged butterfly on the right next to her neck hugged her rather large chest and flat belly, while a dusky lime green skirt hung from her wide hips down to the middle of her thighs. The skirt had three large round winged butterflies sewn into the right side of it, with one having a dusky pink body and white wings, another having pale light grayish rose wings and a whitish pink body, and the third having dark rosy pink wings with a dusky lime green body. The ends of another skirt stuck out about an inch past the edge of her simple skirt, with it being colored like her hair while small white spots sat scattered on it. On her feet sat a pair of dusky lime green boots with whitish green soles and thick, somewhat tall high heels with whitish green trim running around the bottom edges of the boots as well as forming a three-pronged crown at the toes. Short ruffles the same color as her hair stuck out of the tops of her boots, with the tops of her socks, which matched the skirt underneath the dusky lime green one, stuck out and ended right below her knees. A large dusky lime green backpack sat on her back, jostling around as she hurried over to them, her eyes locked onto the rabbit, who was apparently named "Angel."
"How rude!" Whisper said as she looked at the rabbit, who looked up at her with narrowing eyes. "Goodness me! I think it can see me!" she continued, making Gavin's eyes widen with surprise.
"Angel! That was very rude of you!" The woman said as she walked up to them and glared at the rabbit sternly, who then turned to her and laid back their ears while making their eyes look bigger. "That won't work on me young man! Now please give me back my hair pin," she continued as she put her hands on her hips after pulling her hair back a little so that her right eye was fully visible. The rabbit hopped out of his lap, let go of the pin, and held it out towards her, prompting the girl to take it and reattach it to the left side of her hair right above her left eye. "Good Angel, now apologize to Ga-I mean, this young man," she stated quickly with a blush while pulling her hair back over her face some as she looked away from Gavin a little, prompting Gavin to arch an eyebrow with a bit of confusion while the rabbit rolled its eyes before it turned to Gavin and gave a tiny bow, as Gavin hadn't caught what she'd almost said.
"Um, thank you," he said to the rabbit with some confusion in his voice, causing the rabbit to straighten itself out and hop over to the woman.
"I'm sorry Angel did that to you. He usually doesn't do that to people," she said to him while keeping her eyes off him, holding her hands together as she did so. "M-My name's Fluttershy," she continued, her voice getting much quieter as she said her name.
"'Fluttershy?'" Whisper said with intrigue as she looked her over, the male rabbit watching her with narrow eyes. "What an odd name."
"It's nice to meet you Fluttershy. My name is Gavin," He said to the woman with a warm smile, making her blush more and start to wring her hands while he felt happy that Whisper had heard her name. "If I may ask, what year are you?"
"I'm a junior," Fluttershy replied while glancing at him and smiling at him some. Then, there was a gentle "Chirp!" that came from her backpack, making her eyes widen. "Oh my! I almost forgot! I have something really important to do!" She continued before she scooped Angel up in her arms and started to hurry down the slope, with Angel having an unimpressed look on his face as he looked up at his owner.
"Alright, well it was nice meeting you Fluttershy!" Gavin called out to her with a smile. "Maybe we can get to know each other some more sometime!" he continued, making her blush harder and smile widely at that, with Angel rolling his eyes and shaking his head with a tiny smile. "She seems really nice," he stated as he watched them hurry away and go around the corner of a nearby building. "That bunny on the other hand…" he trailed off as he rubbed his sore nose. 'I didn't think a bunny could put so much force in a headbutt!' he thought as he continued to rub it for several seconds before he stood up and grabbed his things. "Alright, I think I know what we're going to do next!" he finished with a smile before he started to head down the slope, prompting Whisper to gain a curious look as she went after him.
"What do you have in mind, my friend?" She asked him with curiosity as they headed away from the tree towards the nearby walkway.
"I think I'll show you one of the many fountains on campus before I show you the Dining Hall," he replied with a smile as they walked, passing by a male couple who were holding hands and talking to each other as they went. "It's my favorite of all the ones on campus," he continued, his smile changing into a grin.
"Oh, a fountain? We had some of those in the village before I was sealed away," She said with a smile that shrunk a little as she sighed sadly, a nostalgic look on her face. "Most of them were privately owned, but there were a couple the public could see. Nothing grand, of course, but then again, the people didn't mind that too much," she continued.
"Huh, that's rather interesting," Gavin replied with intrigue as they headed down the walkway and over a small wooden bridge that sat above another small stream. "You'll have to tell me more about how life was back then sometime," he continued.
"I will, someday," Whisper said with a slow nod before falling silent, her thoughts turning to ones of nostalgia once more as they walked.
They walked for about twenty minutes, passing by a couple more students who weren't currently in class, before they reached a large fountain that was completely circular in shape and had a black base. In the center sat a large black pagoda with a rather large gold nine-tailed kitsune inside of it, with water coming out of its upwards-pointing snout and down around it in a perfect circular curtain. Surrounding the fountain were smaller kitsune statues made of gray stone sitting on large low-to-the-ground pedestals along with ornately trimmed shrubs and trees. A pathway made of tightly packed gravel and pebbles ran completely around the fountain and shrubs, with various paths branching off it and heading in various directions. A rather small pond sat nearby, with a small stream feeding into it that had a small dark red and black bridge going across it, and a large dark grayish black gazebo with several dark green dragons carved into the top edges of the hexagonal tiled roof sat somewhat nearby as well, with the outer edges of it surrounded in big light grayish white blocks. Two large dark red picnic tables sat in the gazebo, with a trash can next to it that was black in color with dark red trim on the outer edges of it. White round lamps hung from the corners of the gazebo roof, with two large rectangular ones hanging on the inside. Multiple ornately trimmed shrubs and trees of various colors were scattered around the area, as were several benches. A few were made of dark gray stone and had no backs, while others were made of dark brown wooden planks with a little space between them and had curved backs.
"So this is my favorite fountain," he said as he came to a stop in front of the fountain, sighing happily as he looked at it.
"Why is that, exactly?" Whisper asked with curiosity as she looked at it. "There's no gems in this fountain," she continued as she started floating around it.
"It's because of what the theme of this fountain is," he said, making her look at him with intrigue before looking back at the fountain as she continued to circle it. "Kitsune are my favorite of the mythical creatures that people write about. I love the way they look, the abilities they have, and the name for their kind," he continued with a smile as he stared at the gold kitsune in the fountain, while Whisper hummed with intrigue.
"I see. Not surprising, I suppose, given what they can do," She replied with a nod as she finished going around the fountain and floated back over to him.
"Yeah. Do you think there's a chance we'll meet any?" He asked her with curiosity and a bit of excitement.
"Hmmm, it is possible, but even if we did, you'd never know since they'd be in disguise whis," Whisper replied while crossing her arms and shaking her head/body side to side, prompting him to frown with disappointment. "It's probably a good idea to just plan on never meeting one ever," she continued with a shrug, making him even more disappointed.
"I see. Thanks for the advice," he said with a sigh and a bit of sarcasm in his voice, which completely flew over Whisper's head.
"You're welcome! As your Yokai butler it's my duty to provide you with helpful advice!" She stated happily.
"Mhm. Come on, I'll take you to the dining hall now," he replied a few seconds later before he turned and started to walk around the fountain, prompting Whisper to follow him with a curious look on her face. "Oh, hey Lyra and Bon Bon," He said to two 20-year-old women sitting on a nearby bench.
Lyra had very light aquamarine skin on her rather curvy body. Her hair was a pale, light grayish cyan with white highlights and rather fluffy looking and cut short at the front, with the rest of it ending just past her shoulders. Her eyes were a brilliant gamboge color, with somewhat long black lashes and thin eyebrows a couple shades darker than her skin. A pale pink tank top hugged her large chest and ended right above her belly, with a very light fuchsia fabric that looked almost skirtlike in appearance and had pockets running down her belly to just past her hips. Dark aquamarine layered shorts with ridges on the ends of them sat on her rear and ended at the tops of her thighs. Dark brownish reddish pink boots with two straps keeping them on and somewhat tall high heels sat on her feet, ending a little below the tops of her calves, with her light apple greenish gray socks ending right above the tops of her boots. A simple gold necklace with a gold lyre for the centerpiece hung around her neck, and a hairband colored a few shades brighter than her boots sat on her head, with a matching flower on the right side that had a light apple greenish gray center. A backpack that was patterned the same color as her hair sat at her feet, with a golden lyre hanging on a chain on the right side, while her somewhat short nails were painted white and pale light grayish cyan.
Bon Bon had light apple greenish gray skin covering her very curvy body, with her eyes colored a moderate arctic blue, her somewhat long eyelashes black in color, and her thin eyebrows a couple shades darker than her skin. Her hair was a moderate cobalt blue with a very light fuchsia stripe running all the way down the middle of it. The ends of her somewhat long bangs were curled inwards and downwards tightly, and the rest of her hair ran down her back to her ass, curling upwards and inwards tightly. A white sleeveless dress sat on her curvy body, hugging her chest a bit, and it had a short sky blue ruffle running around the collar. Somewhat faded yellow sat on the edges of the armholes, and a sky blue cord with a sky blue piece of wrapped candy that had a somewhat faded yellow stripe wrapping all the way around it in a diagonal direction was wrapped around her waist like a belt. The end of the dress's simple skirt sat right below the tops of her thighs, and two sky blue lines sat a few inches above the end of it with a somewhat faded yellow line running right between them. Simple sky blue close-toed sandals with soles a few shades lighter than the rest of the shoe sat on her feet, with one strap keeping them on. White socks covered her feet and most of her calves, ending right at the tops of her calves with a single sky blue band at the end. A backpack that was patterned like the stripes on her dress sat at her feet, with a couple pieces of candy looking exactly like the one on her belt stuck onto the front of it, while her nails were painted in the same tones as her manes.
"Hi Gavin!" Lyra said excitedly with a warm smile and wave, her voice sounding somewhat high-pitched and very friendly.
"Hey Gavin," Bon Bon added with a warm smile as well, her voice sounding ever so slightly nasal and somewhat high-pitched yet a bit soft. "How are you doing?"
"Alright," He replied with a sigh while smiling warmly at them, coming to a stop as he did so to look at them. "Just wanted to look at the fountain for a little bit before I headed to lunch," he continued, prompting Bon Bon and Lyra to look at each other with arched eyebrows before they looked back at him.
"Really? Because it sounded like you were telling someone about why this is your favorite fountain," Bon Bon replied with what he feared was suspicion, making his eyes widen along with Whisper, who then looked at him with alarm on her face.
"Oh, um, I was just talking to myself," he said quickly with a bit of nervousness in his voice, before he turned and started to walk away a little quicker. "I'd love to stay and talk more, but I am feeling a bit hungry. It was nice to see the two of you!" he continued with a smile as he waved back at them while walking away, passing by three more women who looked at him with loving looks on their faces as they sat together on a bench.
They were all 22 years old and quite lovely to look at. One had pale persian blue skin on her curvy body, vivid sky blue eyes with long black lashes and thin eyebrows a few shades darker than her skin, and faded pale cerulean silky hair that was swept back and tied in a simple ponytail with the help of a large sapphire blue bow located at the base of her head, the ponytail draped down the back of her neck and ending right at the middle of her back while a few strands of hair hung down in front of her ears. A gorgeous ultramarine blue dress sat on her body, starting right below her armpits and showing off a small amount of her cleavage while wrapping around her back. Ultramarine blue straps ran around her arms right below her shoulders and connected to the top of the dress, while the long skirt, which had a somewhat lighter patch of blue on the front in the shape of a heart sitting on the front hugged her large butt and curved inwards a little before flaring out right above her feet slightly, revealing that ultramarine blue simple high heels sat on her feet. Hanging from her ears were small earrings in the shape of azure blue hexagonal candles with dark orange flames attached to faded turquoise hexagonal candles with matching flames, and her nails were somewhat long and painted ultramarine blue.
The woman sitting to her immediate left had prismatic red skin on her curvy body along with long black eyelashes, thin eyebrows a few shades lighter than her skin, and lovely faded amethyst eyes. Her hair was burnt umber in color, and the front of her hair was swept over to the right in a large wave that ended to the immediate right of the outer end of her right eye. The rest of her hair was tied up in a ponytail like the pale persian blue-skinned woman with a large garnet red bow located at the base of her head, with the ponytail hanging down her right shoulder down to the middle of her right breast. Her outfit matched the pale persian blue-skinned woman's outfit exactly, except that it was ruby red in color, with the heart-shaped patch on the front of her skirt being a few shades lighter than the rest of her outfit. Her earrings consisted of a small light brown bread loaf that looked remarkably like a baguette, with a smaller light brown slice of bread sitting underneath it at a downward angle, the lighter creamish white part of the bread facing the loaf, while a burgundy blob of some sort of substance along with a tinier drop of it sat on top of the white part of the bread. Her somewhat short nails were painted a ruby red color.
The third woman, who was sitting to the left of the prismatic red skinned woman, had ocean green skin covering her curvy body along with long black eyelashes, thin eyebrows a couple shades darker than her skin, and lovely vivid sky blue eyes. Her hair was pale light grayish olive in color and tied up in a long ponytail with the help of a cadmium green bow sitting at the base of her head, with the ponytail hanging down to the middle of her back. Her outfits matched the other's, except it was castleton green, with the heart-shaped patch on her skirt a couple shades lighter than the rest of it. Her earrings consisted of an orange carrot with a green top connected to a vermillion tomato that had a gold circle surrounding it with three sheen green peas surrounding the tomato, two above and one below, and her long nails were painted a castleton green color.
"Ahhhh," the three sighed lovingly as they watched him walk away, their eyes and smiles full of love as they leaned on each other, their purses sitting in their laps, while Bon Bon and Lyra watched him with narrow eyes.
"Hmmm, looks like things are getting more interesting around here Lyra," Bon Bon said with a very small smile on her face.
"Uh-huh, very interesting!" Lyra said in agreement while nodding her head several times quickly, an excited look on her face. "When should we confront him? After lunch?!" she continued, prompting Bon Bon to shake her head.
"No, not yet. We'll need to do some reconnaissance before we do that," She replied, making Lyra gasp excitedly.
"Oh, I can't wait! I'll go ahead and get started on the disguises!" Lyra said before she got up to her full height of 5 foot 6 inches and started to run off, prompting Bon Bon to roll her eyes.
"Wait up Lyra!" She called out to her as she got up to her full height of 5 foot 6 inches and ran after her, while the three women on the bench slowly got up from their seats and went in a different direction then Lyra and Bon Bon, large smiles still on their faces.
After walking for about 15 minutes, he sighed with a smile and spoke. "That there is the dining hall," he said as he and Whisper looked at a nearby two-story building that was in the shape of a perfect circle that had a large square projection to its right. Said building was made of light brown bricks and had a domed tinted glass roof, with large panes of blue-tinted clear glass making up a decent portion of some of the walls on one side of the building and an arched glass roof sitting on top of the square projection. A large rectangular light brown wooden patio sat to one side of the building next to the glass, with a large wooden roof over it that was styled like a pagoda and had multiple white wooden cranes scattered all over it. Sitting underneath the roof on the patio were multiple large rectangular and square light brown wooden tables with multiple curved chairs around them that were the same color as well, while multiple beautifully trimmed shrubs and trees surrounded the building along with a few small fountains and ponds. "I usually eat there at least once a day, maybe for all three meals, if I don't feel up for cooking at the dorm," he continued as they walked by a single male student, who gave him a confused look upon seeing him talk to no one before he shrugged and looked away. "They offer a wide variety of foods, including…what in the heck?" he stated with confusion, prompting Whisper to look at him with confusion.
"What's wrong Gavin whis?" Whisper asked him.
"Why are there so many people waiting outside the dining hall right now?" he said as he looked at the building, which had a small crowd of people standing in front of one set of its large dark brown double doors, who had various expressions ranging from impatience to needy, with several of them clutching their bellies. "It's only…11:13 AM!" He exclaimed with alarm while looking at his phone. "Lunch doesn't open until 11:30!" he continued.
"But that's not that far off from now," Whisper replied with an arched eyebrow. "It would make sense that people would be lining up early for lunch."
"Yeah, but not this many at this time before lunch! If a crowd forms at all, it happens inside, and never goes beyond the doors here," Gavin said as he gestured to the crowd, which was very slowly growing. "There's a lobby inside, as well as another couple of hallways that branch off it. It's gotta be packed in there, and it's never been like this in the few years I've lived in this town," he continued before he put a hand to his chin in thought. "Something's going on, and I'm going to figure out what," he finished as he started to walk towards the growing crowd, his eyes seeing two familiar people in the farthest edges of the crowd.
"Hmmm, I think you are overthinking things a bit much," Whisper replied with a shake of her head as she followed him. "People are just really hungry today," she continued while he headed towards his targets.
"Hey Casey! Hey Shiko!" Gavin called out to the couple when he was a few feet away from them, catching their attention. "What's going on? Why's everyone crowding the hall like a celebrity's inside?" he questioned as he gestured to the small crowd.
"Oh hey Gavin!" Casey said to him with a smile on his face while keeping his naturally deep voice down a little so he wouldn't draw a ton of attention. "I dunno why everyone else is here, but we're here cause we're hungry!" he continued as he patted his stomach with a laugh, with Shiko nodding a little as well, her much quieter and higher-pitched "Hello Gavin" having gone nearly unheard. "Really, really hungry!"
"You're both really hungry," Gavin replied with a bit of intrigue. "Did you guys eat breakfast at all, or skip it?" he asked with curiosity.
"We ate a really big breakfast like usual," Shiko said while looking at Casey.
"Yeah, and usually we wouldn't be hungry till around one, but today we got hungry pretty quickly," Casey replied as he scratched the back of his head with slight confusion in his voice. "Which is kinda weird since we didn't do any running today. We just stayed in our dorm."
"Okay," Gavin said with a nod. "Thanks for letting me know. I hope you guys enjoy the food when the hall opens," he continued before he started to walk away from them.
"Later Gavin!"
"Enjoy the dorm!" Shiko called out with a smirk, making Gavin arch an eyebrow with confusion and look back at them with a cocked head. She merely waved at him while Casey gave her a confused look and said "Bye Gavin!" prompting him to look at her for several more seconds before he shrugged and continued walking away from them.
"Why did you say that?" Casey asked Shiko, making her smile at him.
"To make him wonder about it for the rest of the day," She replied simply "After all, he has a pretty big surprise to discover when he gets back to the dorm since he left his room right before sunrise," she continued with a giggle, prompting Casey to smirk and chuckle a little as well.
"Yes he definitely does," he said in agreement before he looked back at the dining hall with a lick of his lips, Shiko doing the same.
"Okay, that's weird," Gavin said with a hand to his chin as he walked away from the crowd and came to a stop at a bench before he looked at the crowd.
"How on Earth is that weird?" Whisper replied with confusion and a shake of her head. "Those two just have high metabolisms, and digested their breakfast," she continued.
"Whisper, those two eat a lot of food for breakfast every day," Gavin said to her with an arched eyebrow. "I know this because I've eaten breakfast with them before a few times. They eat hashbrowns, pancakes, bananas, peaches, rice, asa gohan, natto, and they both drink at least half a gallon of coffee," he stated, making Whisper's eyes widen greatly while her jaw dropped a few feet, the act disturbing him a little.
"Whaaaaaaaaat?" She said with shock, her voice growing higher. "They eat all of that?! For breakfast?!" she exclaimed, prompting him to nod. "How are they still in shape?!"
"Yep! That's how I know that something's up," he replied. "As for how they're still in shape despite all that food? They exercise a lot to the point that it's incorporated into their everyday activities, with an example being that they run everywhere they're going if they aren't breaking the rules," he continued before looking at the crowd once more, missing the odd looks he was getting from some passersby. "Now then, let's figure out if the others here are hungry like Casey and Shiko," he stated before he headed back towards the crowd, with Whisper slowly following him, still shocked at what she'd just learned about the couple.
"Hey, sorry for bothering you three, but why are you all standing around the dining hall?" he asked three female students who physically looked almost exactly alike. "Is there a party or something?"
"That would be amazing if there was!" One of them replied with a grin.
"But we're just really hungry!" Another said while patting her flat belly. "Like really, really hungry!" she explained while looking at the building holding the dining hall.
"You're very hungry, just like Casey and Shiko," Gavin muttered almost silently as he rubbed his chin in thought. "Alright. Thanks for letting me know. I wonder if everyone else is here cause they're hungry," he continued as he looked around at the other people.
"I know we are," a tall male athlete said to his left, catching his attention. The man was standing with three other male athletes, with one tossing a protein bar into his mouth as he looked at them. "Got hungry right when we were heading by Ralph," he continued, prompting Gavin to arch an eyebrow with intrigue at the new information.
"I can tell by how your friend's eating that snack," Gavin replied with a smirk, making the athletes chuckle as the mentioned guy chewed the bar up quickly and swallowed it. "Thanks for letting me know," he continued with a wave before he moved on.
"Hey, can I ask you something? Why is there such a big crowd right now?" he asked a short male student with thick glasses several minutes later, having gone to the left of the crowd a bit, with it mostly focused to being in front of and to the right of the doors since there were benches on the right side.
"I don't know, but it needs to move quickly! I'm starving!" The guy replied with a rather high-pitched voice, surprising him a little. "It's weird too. I wasn't feeling hungry at all until just now when I went to touch the statue of Ralph over there since it's the first day of school," he continued as he pointed at a statue about ten feet away from them, which was sitting twenty feet away to the left of the doors.
Said statue was made of dark gray stone, fifteen feet tall, and was of a somewhat chubby American man with a short well-groomed beard and no mustache. He had on a large wide brimmed stone top hat, a stone tuxedo covered by a stone overcoat that was open, and a set of large and wide stone dress shoes that had worn toes, as it was said that rubbing the shoes' toes would give one good luck for six months, especially if done on an important day, like the first day of school. He had two large stone books tucked under one arm along with a stone scroll while holding his other arm up as if giving a lecture. Carved into a brass plaque on the front of the large block of stone the statue was set on were words that read "Ralph Hefferson, a Massachusetts doctor who was born in 1888 and died in 1935, traveled to Japan in 1903 to start Springdale University that year, wanting to help the people of the community further their skills. He served as its president from 1913 to 1925 and is one of the most loved university presidents in the university's history."
"That is weird," Gavin said with intrigue as he looked at the statue for several seconds before he looked back at the male student, while Whisper floated over to the statue and looked at the plaque with intrigue. "It's probably just a coincidence," he continued with a shrug.
"Undoubtedly it is," The student replied with a nod. "A very odd coincidence," he continued before he walked over to the crowd and joined it, checking his tablet as he did so.
"Possibly," Gavin said before he looked at the statue and walked towards it while Whisper finished looking at the plaque and turned to him as he came to a stop a few feet from it. "Hmmm, hey Whisper, is it possible a Yokai could be causing all of this hunger?" he asked her with curiosity.
"I highly doubt it," Whisper replied with crossed arms and a shake of her head while closing her eyes as well. "Everyone probably all just didn't eat large breakfasts out of excitement for the first day of school!" she continued, making him arch an eyebrow at her.
"I highly doubt that," He said before he held up the watch and activated the searchlight, aiming it to the right of the base of the statue. "I'm checking for one. I mean, this feels weird enough that a Yokai might be doing it. That or a magic user who specializes in food," he continued with a smirk before a shadowy figured appeared in the spotlight right to the left of the statue's base. "Yeah, it's a Yokai," he stated quietly with wide eyes as he spoke, remembering that he'd look insane if anyone was hearing him say that, and he looked around him quickly to see if anyone was watching him.
"WHAAAAT?!" Whisper exclaimed with shock as she looked at where he was pointing the spotlight with wide bulging eyes and a dropped jaw, her arms held out straight behind her as well like she was pushing something behind her.
Fortunately, much to his great relief, no one was looking in his direction at all. Instead, they were looking at the doors as the crowd of people in the doorway moved deeper into the building, prompting those outside to start going inside. "Looks like it's 11:30 now," Gavin said before he looked back at the shadowy figure, which was slowly becoming more visible. "Now then, who are you?"
About ten seconds later, the shadows covering the figure disappeared, revealing a being who stood 2 feet 9 inches tall. It looked like an old man with coral pink skin, with his body rather thick, limbs rather short, and hands fat with five fat short fingers along with no neck visible at all. His head made up a little over half of his height, and it was cone-shaped, with the vertex being the top of his completely bald and his ears square and somewhat small. His eyebrows were thick, shaped somewhat like single quotation marks, and pure white in color, with the inner points pointing up towards the center of his forehead. A couple of wrinkles sat above his large blocky nose, with a pure white somewhat long mustache that looked like an upside down "V" sitting below it. His eyes were completely closed, with his short black eyelashes sticking out to form somewhat thick rectangular lines, and his mouth was open a bit in an upside-down "V" shape, revealing that he had a large azure blue tongue and a single large white square incisor in the right of his bottom jaw. A smoke gray kimono sat on his body, running from the very bottom of the sides of his head down to right above his ankles, with a trypan blue obi, or sash, running around his waist to keep the kimono closed. Sitting on his small feet were two-toothed light brown geta sandals with black straps and white tabi that ended right at his ankles.
"I'm hungry," the yokai stated with a somewhat scratchy and kind elderly male voice as he stood there, a bit of droll running out of the left side of his mouth while he held his right index finger on the right side, as if in thought.
"Some sort of old man?" Gavin said with confusion and surprise, before he looked at Whisper questioningly. "Who is he?" He asked, prompting Whisper's eyes to widen before she shook her head and lowered her limbs, pulling out her Yo-kai Pad as she did so.
"Oh, um, yes! Now I remember, silly me!" She replied as she started to use her Yo-kai Pad with a drop of sweat running down the right side of her head. "His name is Hungramps, and he gives people the munchies, so that they can snack on whatever they can find," she continued while he rolled his eyes.
'Seriously Whisper, there's no need to act like you know something if you don't know it,' he thought before he looked back at Hungramps, who was starting to sit down on the ground in front of the statue. "So he makes people very hungry. He has to be the one making everyone like this," he continued as thought about the crowd of hungry people he'd seen earlier. "But why? And how do we stop him?"
"You have the usual choice, negotiation or confrontation!" Whisper stated firmly while putting away her pad.
"I'm not beating up an old man!" Gavin said quietly with a frown as he looked at her before he walked towards the old man and crouched down in front of him. "Excuse me Mr. Hungramps, I was wondering if you tell me why you're affecting the students here?" he asked the Yo-kai.
A loud high-pitched snore was Hungramps' response, making his eyes widen with surprise while Whisper let out a yell of shock before he smiled and shook his head a little. 'Well he is elderly, I think,' he thought as he looked the Yokai over, before he slowly reached out to tap his right index finger on his right cheek. "Excuse me sir. Are you willing to talk?" he asked the man, his finger millimeters from the Yokai's skin.
Then, the Yokai yawned loudly while stretching out his short arms before he rested his hands in his lap, prompting him to pull his hand back. "What were you saying?" He asked with a somewhat high-pitched voice that sounded very friendly.
"Well good for him! At least he power naps!" Whisper said sassily with a groan of annoyance while putting away her pad, prompting Gavin to frown at her again.
"Whisper, that's rude!" he said to her firmly before he looked back at Hungramps. "Can you tell me why you're doing this please? And maybe stop so people don't make themselves sick with food?" he continued while a male student walked past him and gave him a confused look before he entered the building.
"I'm sorry young man but I can't do that," Hungramps replied sincerely.
"Why not?" Gavin asked with curiosity.
"I've got my reasons."
"What reasons, sir?" Gavin followed up with even more curiosity in him.
"I have to stay right here, and nowhere else!" Hungramps replied, making Gavin arch an eyebrow with intrigue. "I'm truly sorry," he continued.
'He's sorry, but he has to stay here? Hmmm,' he thought as he looked the man over, before noticing that he'd fallen asleep again, making him chuckle a little while Whisper groaned again with annoyance. 'I wonder if this inspiriting has something to do with his past, like with Jibanyan,' he wondered before Hungramps woke up a few seconds later. "If I may ask sir, what reasons do you have exactly? I would like to know," he asked the Yokai gently. "Perhaps I could help you," he added with a smile, prompting the Yokai to hum in response.
"Hmmm, well, since you asked me so politely, I will," He said before he pulled out a somewhat small dark brown cup of light green tea from his left sleeve, making Gavin arch an eyebrow with surprise. He then drank it all up in a matter of seconds before he held the empty cup in his lap and sighed. "You see, I have a granddaughter," he began, causing Gavin's eyes to widen a little while he and Whisper listened intently, with Gavin sitting on the ground in front of him to be more comfortable. "She's such an adorable girl, the apple of my eye, as the saying goes. I used to bring her here to the statue so she could rub it all the time when she was little, as she always wanted me and her to have good luck, and I'd buy her food here as well," he continued as his memories ran through his head.
Flashback
"Grandpa! Grandpa! Look at all the yummy food! Can I have this?"
"Anything for my best girl!"
"Thank you Grandpa! I love you!"
Flashback end
"She was such a sweet child," He stated with a sad smile as he tilted his head back a little, while Whisper sniffed hard as tears poured out of her eyes.
"That was so beautiful and tragic at the same time!" Whisper said, prompting Gavin to nod in agreement.
"It was quite beautiful," he said, before Hungramps sighed and looked back down while furrowing his brow some more.
"But those happy days were not meant to last long. She started school, and it was only a matter of time before she preferred to hang out with her friends instead of me," Hungramps said sadly, making Gavin look at him with a sad look on his face as well, with passersby looking at him with confusion as they entered the building. "It was only natural, I suppose. Children grow up! That's how it goes. She was becoming such a big girl! I was happy for her, but I missed her company as well. And one day I had to depart from this world, leaving everything behind," he continued while twiddling his fingers a little. "I wish I could see her one last time. I suppose that's why I ended up here," he added, before clicking his large tongue a couple of times.
"I don't really know for sure," he said before looking up at the sunny sky. "But I wait here for her, hoping she'll stop by one of these days," he continued with a small yawn. "So that's why I'm here," he finished with a sigh.
"I see," Gavin said while Whisper bawled her eyes out, a few tears in his eyes as well. 'So he's been inspiriting, aka possessing, the location while waiting for his daughter, and his power is making anyone who comes by to rub the toes of the statue really hungry,' he thought. 'That explains the large crowd. There must have been so many people coming by who rubbed the statue's toes and got affected by him due to it being a very well-known tradition in and out of the school that they split up and went to different entrances to avoid the growing crowd and get inside,' he continued.
"All he wanted to do was to see his granddaughter! Love is not a crime, do you hear me? LOVE IS NOT A CRIME!" Whisper exclaimed while she held her hands to her crying eyes, prompting Gavin to grab her and give her a firm hug.
"Hey, it's okay. It's okay. Let it all out," He said while thinking 'Definitely a bit of a drama queen,' before he looked at Hungramps again. "So if you're looking for your granddaughter, why not go to her house to see her?" he asked with curiosity.
"You see that's the problem," Hungramps replied as he looked at Gavin while furrowing his brows a little more once more. "When I became a Yokai I lost some of my memory, and I just can't remember where she lives or what she looks like anymore," he explained, causing a horrified look to appear on Gavin's face. "But I think I would recognize her if she were right in front of me."
"Um, okay," Gavin said while thinking 'I feel really bad for him. I mean, becoming a Yokai and forgetting what your granddaughter looks like sounds absolutely awful! I hope I never become a Yokai!' "But still, you're making people who've eaten big breakfasts really hungry, and that's not good! They could get really sick!" he explained gently as he looked at the elderly Yokai, reaching a hand out and resting it on his right hand. "I get that you want to find your granddaughter, and I get that. I do. But doing it this way isn't right," he continued while the elderly Yokai looked at him with his mouth still partly open. "There's got to be another way to find her, and I'm willing to help you find her, no matter how long it takes."
"But even if we find her, there is no guarantee that you will recognize your granddaughter if you see her again!" Whisper exclaimed as her tears dried up and she flew out of Gavin's grasp, coming to a stop a few inches from Hungramps' face while holding up a hand with a fingerlike projection pointing out of the top of it.
"Whisper, that's very rude to say!" Gavin said to her quietly with a bit of anger while Hungramps processed what he'd heard. "Very very rude!"
"You know, you may be right," Hungramps said a few seconds later, prompting Gavin to look at him with wide eyes while Whisper floated back a little and lowered her hand. "Thanks for giving it to me straight," he continued.
'Wow, I thought he'd be really upset by that, but he's not!' Gavin thought with surprise. "Are you giving up? Just like that?" He asked the Yokai, who sighed for a few seconds before he spoke while nodding a little.
"I guess it was a sign to have met a young man who could see me," He replied, making Gavin's eyes widen a little more. "It's time for me to put an end to all this nonsense," he continued before he slowly got up onto his feet and started to walk past them.
"But your granddaughter! I said I'd help you find her and I mean it!" Gavin said quickly as he took hold of Hungramps' left arm and made him stop in place. "Let me help you, please," he continued with a pleading tone in his voice, a sad look on his face. "I don't want to see you walk away and know that you never found your granddaughter."
"Thank you very much for the offer, but as I said earlier, it's time for me to put an end to all this nonsense," Hungramps replied after a few seconds with a small sad smile.
"Hey, you never told me why you still have that old thing," A young male voice said from their right, catching Hungramps's attention. He turned to look in the speaker's direction, and that prompted Gavin and Whisper to look in said direction as well.
Walking past them was an 18-year-old boy and girl who both stood about 5 foot 5 inches tall and had black backpacks and handbags on them. The girl was wearing a white short-sleeve shirt with puffy sleeves ending midway between her shoulders and elbows. A small dark red bow was tied around her shirt collar, with a navy blue sweater vest sitting on top of her shirt. A dove gray pleated skirt hung on the lower half of her body, ending at her knees, while white stockings sat on her feet, ending right below the tops of her calves. Sitting on her feet were simple black dress shoes that were held on by one single black strap with an oval silver buckle. Her skin was somewhat pale in color on her slender body, her eyes were large and black in color, her eyebrows were short and dark brown like her hair, and her eyelashes were black and somewhat short. Her hair was tied up into two somewhat long pigtails with the help of black hair ties, and two rose pink hair pins held up her bangs on the right side of her face.
"What, this?" The girl replied with a bit of confusion as she gestured to a small stuffed teddy bear that was a heavily faded pink color with clay coloration on its muzzle, a very faded dark red bow around its neck, and round black eyes. It was hanging on her backpack with the help of a silver clip. "My grandpa bought it for me at this place when they were having a festival," she continued, her voice sounding honeylike and rather high-pitched.
"Cool!" The male replied before the girl stopped as she turned to look at the statue, ignoring Gavin and his weird stance as she did so.
"My grandpa was my best friend when I was a kid," the girl said, making Gavin hum in thought as he looked from her to Hungramps, slowly letting go of his arm as he did so. "But when I started going to school I didn't have as much time to play with him," she continued as she looked at the statue with a smile before she walked over and rubbed its toes, Hungramps' eyes locking onto the teddy bear as she did so.
"Huh?" Hungramps said as he stared at the bear, while Whisper gasped.
"Could it be?" She asked as she and Gavin watched Hungramps carefully.
"Maybe. It sure sounds like it," he whispered back with a shrug as the girl continued to speak.
"The funny thing is, in my heart I wanted to spend more time with him. I miss him every day," The girl stated while Hungramps gasped as he looked from the bear to the girl's face and realized that she was his granddaughter. He then started to sniffle as tears formed in his eyes while he smiled. "Well, time to go!" She continued as she looked at her male friend before they headed over to the doors and entered the building, while the tears ran down his cheeks.
The three of them stared at the doors as they closed behind his granddaughter for at least fifteen seconds before Gavin looked at Hungramps with a smile. "You found her. I'm so happy for you," he said as he reached a hand out and gently pat his tiny left shoulder.
Hungramps slowly turned to look at him as he wiped away the tears from his eyes and nodded in response. "Thank you," he replied before his body glowed light blue for a second, making Gavin's eyes widen with surprise. The light flew off his body and formed a small glowing yellow orb surrounded by a few rings of light blue ancient text that were spinning around the orb.
Gavin held his hand out as the orb flew towards him, and it slowly floated down into his hand before the text and light disappeared, revealing a Yo-kai Medal. The medal showed Hungramps standing against an amethyst and eminence purple background, with four round thought bubbles above and to the right of him. The top thought bubble was royal blue and the other two bubbles were cadet blue in color, with them and the background having white lines on them forming various polygonal shapes. The fourth bubble sat below the cadet blue bubble and was light chartreuse green in color. The royal blue bubble had a light cream ice cream cone in it with white ice cream on top of it, the cadet blue bubbles had a white triangular rice ball and a somewhat dark brown leg of fried chicken in them, and the light chartreuse green bubble had a large white ramen bowl with dark brown ramen noodles in it. It had the same triangle on the top like Jibanyan and Tattletell's medals did, and had the Heartful symbol on the bottom and on the back of the medal like Happierre's medal.
"You're giving me your medal?" Gavin said with confusion as he looked from the medal to Hungramps, who nodded.
"Why of course! I could tell you sincerely wanted to help me find my granddaughter, and you did by stopping me from leaving!" Hungramps replied with a large smile. "If you hadn't, I would have walked away and missed her," he continued, before he turned and started to walk away again. "Thank you for your help. Call me when you need help or want to talk again," he finished as he left.
"Bye," Gavin said softly as he watched the Yokai walk away for about fifteen seconds before he looked back at the medal in his palm. "I'm certainly not going to forget this," he continued as he stood up and pocketed the medal before he headed towards the building. "Come on Whisper. I'll show you the dining hall," he finished as he pulled open one of the doors, prompting her to nod as she followed him inside.
They stepped into a rather large café that had white and pale pink checkered floors and white and pale pink vertically striped walls that had black and white cute cartoon cats peeking out from behind the pink stripes, with the tall flat ceiling being a pale pink color. Several taffy pink square booths with big puffy seats covered in black and white cute cartoon cats sat against the walls, while several large blush pink round rectangular and round tables with black and white cartoon cats on them sat in the booths and across the floor, with magenta chairs that had arched backs with black and white cute cartoon cats on them and black cat paws on its thick black wooden legs sitting around them. A long and somewhat low fuscia pink counter sat against one wall, with a decent section of it covered with clear glass, showing several types of delicious food that had names that consisted of cat puns expertly mixed with food names. A large black rectangular register sat on the far-right side of the counter, with hot pink cat whiskers, hot pink cat eyes, and a hot pink cat nose and ears sitting on the back and top of it. More food sat on hot pink hot plates on the counter behind clear plexiglass that had several cartoon cat-themed name tags on it, with even more sitting in a couple hot pink coolers on the wall to the left of the counter, with white shelves inside and more nametags and prices on the glass. A large swinging door sat in the right of the counter, while a large black menu with white cartoon cats sitting on top of it hung on the wall behind the counter, with hot pink letters making up the various words for the menu items. The ends of the words had either cat ears and paws or paws and a tail, while a couple cartoon cats in various poses were scattered across the board on top of some of the words. A large kitchen could be seen sitting behind the counter, with various employees cooking, cleaning, and moving around.
Their outfits consisted of white short-sleeve shirts with a flamingo pink cartoon cat head on the left breast along with the café's name right below it, flamingo pink pants or skirts, flamingo pink aprons that started at their waists ended at the middle of the calves, white ankle-high socks, and black shoes with thick soles. The aprons had white and black cartoon cat heads all over the front with the faces making a variety of expressions, while a flamingo pink hairband sat on the tops of their heads with matching cat ears on the sides of them that had white triangular insides.
A few large rectangular fuscia pink trash cans with black and white cat faces on the lids and cat paws and tails on their sides were scattered around the café, while a couple cartoon cats could be seen on the checkered floor and around the doorway they had just come in through. Short hot pink lamps in the shape of cartoonish cat heads hung from the ceiling via thin black silver cords with and were attached to the wall right above the menu with the help of pink brackets attached to the underside of the heads, illuminating the café and menu. The front door of the café was large and bubblegum pink, with large glass windows in the center of them that were in the shape of large whiskered cat heads, handles shaped like black cat paws, and a tiny brass bell hanging at the top of the door. A large plate glass window sat to the right of the door with pink letters painted on the outside that read "Koppi Cat Café," with cat ears on the "K" of "Koppi" and a tail sticking out of the end of the "e" in "Café." A low shelf sat behind the glass, with a couple glass trays and stands on top of it that had several items of food on them as well as a couple cat plushies in various poses.
The cafe was packed with people who were eating and talking with other people, and the smell of good food filled the air, making Gavin's stomach growl with hunger.
"My oh my! What a lovely smell!" Whisper said as she sniffed the air, which he found odd since she had no visible nose to speak of.
"Yeah, it does smell good," he replied before he headed towards the café door, prompting her to follow him while he made his way through the very packed and noisy cafe. They soon reached the front door without any incidents and went through it while making the bell softly jingle, entering a large hallway with smooth tan tile floors, darker tan wooden plank walls covered in images of students and faculty doing various things, like planting a garden, selecting the sight for a new building, and officiating the redesigned dining hall, and slightly curved ceiling that was light tan in color. Also on the walls, specifically the ones facing outside, were large glass windows with light brown wooden shades on them, and on the other walls were some corkboards with announcements, with some students taking a look at them, while others headed up and down the long hallway, which curved out of sight to the left and right. Large white rectangular and circular lamps hung from the ceiling, illuminating the long hallway, while somewhat low black comfy benches sat against the walls by the windows. "Now come on. The entrance to the dining hall is this way," he continued as he headed down the right of the hallway, prompting Whisper to follow him.
They passed some bathroom doors, which were jet black in color and had a large white sign in front of them that had a blue man on the left side and a red woman on the right with jet black writing underneath that read "Bathroom," before they soon reached a set of three doors a couple minutes later. Said doors were large, white, and arched at the top, with black oval handles attached to them. Black and white koi fish sat on the walls surrounding the doors, while two long TV screen sat on either side of the far sides of the left and right doors, with the daily lunch menu sitting on it, periodically switching its pages to show off the different items available for lunch as well as a message greeting all returning students and freshman. A couple of dark brown pots with dark green bamboo shoots growing in them sat in the corners by the door, while right above the TV screen were large black elegant letters that read "Chouwa Dining Hall."
"Let's eat," Gavin said to Whisper with a smile before he headed towards the left door while a couple people exited the right one, smiles on their faces as they talked with each other. He pulled the door open and stepped through it with Whisper, the smell of food hitting his nose and making him hum happily at the aromas while the sound of talking hit his ears. "Mmm, I hope they have sesame chicken today," he continued while Whisper looked around the room with curiosity, having never been in the dining hall before. "That's one of my favorite things to eat here!"
Whisper saw that the dining hall took up the majority of the circular portion of the building, with the flat floor being covered in smooth dark gray tiles with lighter gray specks on them and much darker gray tiles running against the walls and counters. The large and tall walls were made of very thin strips of russet brown wood with taupe brown images of cranes, koi fish, and dragons sitting on top of them, and the ceiling consisted of part of the domed glass roof they'd seen outside, except that the interior of the dark blue tinted glass was a faded grayish white color. Several russet brown beams of wood ran across the room, forming large squares as they intersected with each other, while large lemon-yellow lampshades shaped like large cones with yellowish white bulbs inside them hung from the center of the beams via thick black wires. The kitchen sat behind the middle of the far wall all the way to the right wall, with large doorways with large dark brown swinging wooden doors with circular glass windows in the tops of them and light gray metal rectangular plates where handles would normally be located leading to it. Long black counters with rounded edges sat on top of somewhat tall azurish white walls in front of the kitchen, with the counter space broken up into various sections for the different food and drink types offered at the university. Shiny black rubber baseboards ran around the bottoms of the counter walls, while clear plexiglass sat above the food on the counter with the help of clear rectangular plexiglass pillars, with some of the food and drink items being contained in clear glass cooling cases with paper white shelving. Small fake plants sat on the counter as well, along with fake Japanese animals like a sika deer and a macaque, while a couple swinging doors sat at the ends of the counters with a couple walkways splitting up a couple of the food sections.
Standing behind the counters were a few members of the senior class and the regular dining hall faculty, each one serving people with a smile. Their uniforms consisted of white long sleeve shirts that were wrapped across their chests with black koi fish on them, black aprons that started at their waists and ended at their knees, black pants that ended at their ankles with white koi fish on the sides, nice black shoes with white laces, and white handkerchiefs tied on the tops of their heads with black koi fish on it. Small black nametags shaped like koi fish sat on their left breasts, with white lettering on it making up their names on the black paper sitting in the frames of the nametags.
A long and large metal carousel sat in the right wall by the kitchen and counter, with large plastic trays sitting on it as it moved somewhat quickly, students putting their dirty dishes on them as they headed out of the dining hall. Another black door sat in the wall to the left of it, with a large white rectangular sign sitting on the top of it that had a black figure of a man on the top of it. The figure had a bright red prohibition sign on top of it, while the words "Staff Only" were on it in black kanji and in English words right below the symbol.
Multiple long dark brown rectangular tables were scattered around the dining hall, with some circular ones that were a little smaller in the dining hall as well. The chairs sitting around them were the same color as the tables, with their backs and legs curving like the neck of a swan. Some tall rectangular tables sat against the walls, with tall chairs behind them and large posters portraying various things sitting on the walls as well. The far left glass wall had glass double doors with light gray metal handles leading out to the patio they'd seen earlier, letting them see that it was full of people like the rest of the dining hall was. A set of large white double doors sat in the wall to the left of the kitchen, sitting right in the middle between it and the glass wall.
Sitting directly by the door they had come through were two large white cash registers sitting on two small black countertops on top of azurish white walls. A couple gold and bright red maneki-nekos sat by the cash registers, with two middle-aged Japanese men with balding heads that had light gray hair on the sides of their heads standing behind them and wearing the same outfits as the senior students, except they had on no hats.
Gavin smiled as he pulled out his white Student ID from his dark brown rectangular wallet, which had a purple kitsune on one side and a bright emerald green one on the other, and handed it over to one of the men while his stomach growled. 'Man I'm glad Hungramps got the closure he needed. I didn't want to end up becoming really hungry like everyone else he affected!' Gavin thought happily as the man swiped the card in the register before handing it back to him, prompting him to put it back in his wallet and head towards the counters, the smell of food growing stronger as he did so.
"This looks rather lovely!" Whisper said as she looked around at the packed dining hall. "Do you eat here often?" She asked him with curiosity as he reached a counter and started getting his food, saying "Hi" to the servers as he did so.
"I eat here occasionally. Other times I eat out or in my dorm," he replied as he quickly filled his plate and grabbed a drink before he headed out to the tables with Whisper. "Hmm, now where should I sit?" he questioned as he slowly walked through the tables, looking for an empty seat while moving side to side every once in a while as people got up from their tables to deposit their dirty dishes and leave the dining hall.
"Hmmm, over there looks like a good spot!" Whisper said after looking for about thirty more seconds, floating ahead and pointing her arm at an empty round table with ten chairs surrounding it. "And look! It's all nice and clean!" she continued as she ran a hand over the table, not finding any crumbs on it.
"Nice!" Gavin replied with a smile before he walked over to the table and sat down in one of the seats, placing his backpack next to his chair as he did so. "I wonder who will sit with me this year?" He questioned as he opened his drink of whole milk and took a sip, remembering how in the last two years members of the senior class had ended up sitting with him at lunch a lot.
"Hi," A 20-year-old 5 foot 4 inch tall woman with a somewhat young voice that sounded friendly, bubbly, and somewhat high-pitched said as she sat down next to him, setting a dark brown paper bag on the table along with a simple light sapphire bluish gray water bottle covered with stickers of various muffins on it. She had light sapphire bluish gray skin on her very curvy body, thin black eyebrows that were somewhat small, and long black eyelashes around her large eyes. Said eyes had a gradient of color in them, ranging from pale light grayish apple green to moderate gamboge and were crossed, with the left one looking down decently and inwards a little and the right one looking diagonally upwards and inwards. Her hair was pale light grayish apple green in color and had shaggy long bangs in the front, with the end of her hair somewhat jagged as well and sitting right above the middle of her back.
A smoke gray short sleeve t-shirt hugged her rather large chest and flat belly, ending at her waist while the sleeves ended halfway between her shoulders and elbows. A large copper brown muffin with chocolate chips in the top of it sat on the front of the shirt on her chest, with smaller matching muffins scattered across the shirt. A chocolate brown skirt with a row of semitransparent steel blue bubbles of varying sizes running up the right and left sides of her skirt hung from her wide hips over her rather large ass down to just past the middle of her thighs, with white socks covered in miniature chocolate chip muffins sitting on her feet that end at the middle of her calves with chocolate trim on the tops of them. Sitting on her feet were russet brown sandals with one grooved strap running across the front of her feet an inch away from the bases of her toes, while a large chocolate brown handbag that looked a lot like a mailbag with shiny brass buckles on the straps and a couple pins of various types of muffins attached to it.
"Um, hello," Gavin replied with a smile. "What's your name?" He asked while Whisper looked her over. 'I wonder what's with her eye? Did she have an accident or was she born with a condition?' he questioned as he looked at her eyes.
"My name's Ditzy Hooves, but everyone calls me 'Derpy,'" She said with a smile as she opened her paper bag and pulled out a large dark brown muffin with chocolate chips in it, showing as she did so that her short fingernails were the same color as her skin. "Muffin?" She asked him as she held out the muffin towards him.
"Um, sure!" He replied with a smile before he took the muffin from her. "That's very kind of you." He continued as he set the muffin down with his food and started to eat his rice. "My name's Gavin Woodring." 'What an odd nickname. Kinda rude too, but she doesn't seem to be too upset by it,' he thought as he looked at her.
"It certainly is!" Whisper said as she floated over to his side and looked at the two of them.
Derpy smiled wider in response before she pulled out another muffin that was bigger than the one she'd handed him, making their eyes widen with surprise. "Muffins are amazing!" She said happily before she took a big bite of the muffin and hummed happily. "Muffins are for any time!" She continued with reverence and awe as she looked at the muffin and then him, some crumbs clinging to her lips. "Muffins forever!"
"Hmmm, she seems a bit obsessed with muffins," Whisper said with a hum as she stared at Derpy with a hand to her non-existent chin. "What an odd thing to obsess over," she continued.
'Honestly not the oddest thing to obsess over Whisper,' Gavin thought with a small smirk before he shuddered a little as he thought back to some of the things people had been obsessed with in his old life. 'Trust me! This is one of the tamest and least odd things I've seen someone obsess over,' he continued before another person came up to the table and sat down to his immediate left, catching his attention.
"Hello! The name's Fresh Coat," a 20 year old woman with light gamboge skin covering her curvy body said with a friendly energetic voice that had a hint of a Virginia accent to it. Her eyes were somewhat large and moderate cerise in color, with long black lashes around it while her somewhat thick dark grayish cerulean eyebrows sat above them. Her somewhat wavy hair matched her eyebrows in color, with two long bangs down the front of her head and out to the sides, going right across the very tops of her eyes before ending right at her chin, with the majority of her hair covered up by an aqua green backwards baseball cap that had a few splotches of beigish white paint on it. The rest of her hair was tied up in a loose bun with a vermillion hair tie, the bun resting against the base of her neck. An aqua green short-sleeved t-shirt sat on her torso, hugging her chest a little while ending at her waist and right below her shoulders, with some more beigish white paint spatters on the bottom of the shirt. A pair of dark blue blue jean shorts sat on her large ass with the help of a pitch black belt and ended at the tops of her thighs, with the ends of the rolled up a little, meaning that the shorts were longer than they were currently. A pair of pure white socks that ended right at the tops of her ankles sat on her feet, with somewhat small sneakers on her feet as well. The sneakers had somewhat thick aqua green soles, an aqua green body with a white stripe running across the middle of it, black laces, and white rectangular patches sitting right at the tops of the shoes, which sat right at the tops of her ankles, the tops of her socks peeking out a little. Her backpack was tiger orange in color with a large panel on the top colored a dark punch pinkish red, with a pin in the shape of a small aqua green paint bucket that had beigish white paint on the rim attached to one side. "You're Gavin, right? I've seen you around campus a few times," she continued as she started to eat her food from the dining hall, showing her somewhat long nails were a shade lighter than her skin. "It's nice meeting you."
"What a messy outfit! Why doesn't she clean it?" Whisper asked with a bit of disgust upon seeing the paint, making Gavin frown a little as he glanced at her.
'That's rude Whisper!' he thought while saying "It's nice meeting you as well. My name's Gavin Woodring" with a warm smile. "So what year are you two lovely ladies?" He asked them, making Fresh Coat smile and blush slightly while Derpy smiled wider as they all ate.
Before they could answer though, three young women who all appeared to be 18 years old walked up to the table, with one of them clearing their throats to catch their attention as they held their trays of food in their hands, each one having a paper or plastic bag on it as well. One stood 5 foot 5 inches tall and had light gray skin covering her curvy body, with her lovely pale, light grayish harlequin eyes looking at him with what appeared to be a glimmer of some sort in them. Her thin, somewhat short pale light grayish rose eyebrows were slightly raised, with long black eyelashes surrounding them while lipstick matching the color of her eyebrows sat on her luscious lips. Her hair was grayish mulberry with a couple thick pale, light grayish rose stripes running down through it, each lock of hair ending in curls that turned inwards. A somewhat small curl sat on the right side of her head and ended right above her right eye, and a larger curl hung down the left side of her head, ending right above the bottom of her lips while staying clear of her left eye. The rest of her hair hung down the back of her head and neck and ended at the middle of her back with somewhat small curls.
A low cut white crop top with thick light ruby red lines sat on her torso, hugging her chest and flat belly as well as showing off a decent amount of cleavage. A ruby red collarless long sleeve jacket sat on top of the crop top, completely unzipped to show just the center of said crop top, while the sleeves ended at her wrists. Tiny amounts of pale purple glitter were scattered across her somewhat long nails, which were painted grayish mulberry and pale, light grayish rose. A black belt with a circular shiny silver buckle at the front wrapped around her waist, with a sunrise yellow simple skirt running over her ass and down to right above her knees, and a pair of white pearl earrings on the bottoms of her ears. Sitting on her feet were ruby red sneakers that looked very nice and had white soles and laces, with the shoes ending right below her ankles while white socks that ran up to right above her ankles. Right on the outer sides of the shoes was the symbol of a shield with three vertical stripes on it, the rightmost one being a moderate cerise color, the middle one a pale light grayish rose, and the left one a light brilliant crimson, with a violet five-pointed star sitting in the middle of the shield that had a brilliant purple eighth note in the middle of it. A white backpack with faux diamonds on the sides and brilliant purple eighth notes sat on her back, which he could only see the sides of thanks to her shifting around a little.
One stood 5 foot 6 inches tall and had pale, light grayish olive skin covering her lovely body, with her large eyes a brilliant gamboge color. Her lashes were black and somewhat long, with her thin and curved eyebrows a brilliant amaranth. Her smooth hair was brilliant amaranth in color as well, and her bangs were somewhat short on the sides and somewhat long in the middle, ending in a large fringe right at the top of the bridge of her nose. The rest of her hair ran down her neck all the way to her ass and ended with a round edge, with a very large light brilliant crimson bow tied to her hair right at the very top of the back of her head. Covering her torso was a light green short-sleeve t-shirt that hugged her large chest and flat belly, with the sleeves ending just after her shoulders and at her waist. A thick black belt with a rectangular shiny brass buckle in the front held up her dark blue blue jean pants that were rolled up to the middle of her thighs, which hugged her ass a little as well, with a shield on the left side that matched the light gray skinned woman, except that instead of a star and eighth note, there was a violet apple with a brilliant purple heart inside. Sitting on her feet were a pair of dark brown cowgirl boots with darker heels and they ended at the middle of her calves, hiding any sign of socks. Hanging against her right side with the help of a thick black strap was a large sepia brown bag that looked very similar to a square saddlebag he'd seen before on horses in parades and on TV and movies.
Finally, the third woman stood 5 foot 3 inches tall and had light brilliant gamboge skin covering her body, which looked a little more athletic compared to the other two based on what he could see. Her eyes were grayish purple in color, with somewhat short black lashes surrounding them and thin somewhat curved moderate cerise eyebrows right above them. Her hair was moderate cerise and cut rather short and somewhat jagged in the back, with it getting thicker as it went up her head until it ended in a couple of slightly upturned points at the front of her head above her forehead, it staying a relatively low height the entire time.
A shadow gray hoodie sat on her top, obscuring her chest from view due to the shiny silver triangular zipper being zipped all the way up, with the hood completely down. Her sleeves were rolled up to her elbows, with the ends of the sleeves colored blue green and vertically ridged. The large trim on the bottom of her hoodie at her waist was the same color as the ends of her sleeves and covered the very top of her forest green shorts, which hugged her ass a little, ended at her knees, and had large cargo pockets on the sides with shiny brass buttons keeping them closed. Her sneakers had dove gray thick soles and pebble gray bodies, with the straps keeping them in place colored dove as well, while the sneakers had vibrant blue green trim on the top that were horizontally ribbed. The same shield symbol as the other two women sat on the left side of her shorts, with a violet wing on the middle of it with a brilliant purple lightning bolt on top of it. He could see the sides of a moderate cerise backpack on her back.
"Hi, my name's Sweetie Belle and these are my friends Apple Bloom and Scootaloo," the light gray skinned woman said with a decently high-pitched, ever-so-slightly nasal, and friendly sweet voice as she looked at them all, gesturing to the brilliant amaranth haired woman and the moderate cerise haired woman respectively. "Is it okay if we sit here?"
"Yeah, it's fine with me," Gavin replied with a warm smile as he looked at the trio, with Derpy nodding enthusiastically as she ate more of her muffin.
"Yeah, the more the merrier!" Fresh Coat added with a smile, making the three ladies smile widely.
"Awesome!" Scootaloo, the moderate cerise haired one, said happily as the three of them took off their bags and sat in seats to the left of Fresh Coat. Her voice sounded bright and energetic, as well as rather high-pitched.
"Thank you very much!" Apple Bloom added with a warm smile, her slightly high-pitched voice having a somewhat strong country accent. "Hey, your name's Gavin, right?" She asked as she looked at him while pulling out a shiny bright red apple from her paper bag, with Whisper floating around them with an analytic expression on her face. "I've seen you around town a couple of times. My sisters are Big Macareina and Applejack" she stated upon seeing him gain a confused look on his face, making a look of realization appear on it before she started to eat. "What year are you?" She asked.
"What an interesting trio of young women!" Whisper said as she floated around them, examining them with intrigue. "And the country bumpkin seems to know you! Are they friends of yours?" She asked him with curiosity, glancing at him as she spoke.
'I know her sisters a little,' Gavin thought as he looked at Whisper with a small frown. 'And that is very rude, calling her a "bumpkin!" She and the rest of her family are not bumpkins!' he continued before he opened his mouth to speak.
"Excuse me," A young female voice that sounded decently nasal, somewhat high-pitched, and currently a little nervous said, cutting him off before they looked and saw that another person had come to the table.
Said person was a 5 foot 4 inch tall 18-year-old woman with moderate orange skin covering her curvy body. Her hair was a moderate scarlet color with a few somewhat wide streaks of moderate tangelo running through it, with it cut rather short in the back and somewhat long on top, the edges of her bangs sitting a few inches above her eyebrows, which were moderate scarlet in color and somewhat thin and large. Her eyes were moderate vermillion in color and somewhat large, with long black lashes surrounding them.
Sitting on her large chest was a black t-shirt that ended at her waist and just past her shoulders, with pale neon green letters on the front of it that read "I'D RATHER BE PLAYING VIDEO GAMES" and were surrounded by various white hand-held game consoles with neon green screens. A pair of shadow gray shorts with somewhat thick white trim running down the outer sides hugged her large ass and ended at the middle of her thighs, with the trim continuing onto the bottom edges of the shorts. Bright green socks sat on her feet, ending at the bottom of her calves, and had miniature black and blue anthro dragons wearing black, gold, and blue armor on them. Covering her feet and ending at her ankles were a pair of maroon sneakers with white toes and thick white soles, while a dove gray D-pad sat inside a white circle on either side of her heels. Sitting on top of her head was a somewhat large propellor beanie that had white trim on the bottom of it and had a few stripes that were flax yellow, mustard yellow, and moderate scarlet in color. The triangular propellor blades were pear green in color and the shaft they were attached to, which sat at the top of the beanie, was a rather light cool blue color. From what he could see of her backpack, it was dark grayish amber in color, with lots of video game tags on the sides, and she had a small paper bag on her food tray.
"Hi Joystick!" Sweetie Belle said to the woman with a warm smile. "Of course you can sit here!" she continued as she gestured to the seat next to her, making the woman, who was apparently named "Joystick," smile before she sat down in said seat.
'Wow, that's certainly a unique name!' Gavin thought with an inward silent chuckle as he smiled warmly at her. 'She's rather pretty, like everyone else here,' he continued as he looked around at the various ladies sitting at the table. "It's nice to meet you Joystick. I'm Gavin Woodring and I'm a junior here at the university," he said while Whisper shook her head as she chuckled.
"'Joystick?' What a ridiculous name!" Whisper said as she floated around Joystick, who had pulled out her phone as she started to eat her food and was messing with it via one hand, having not even looked at him when he'd spoken. "What next, a woman named Carrot Top?" She questioned before laughing louder, much to Gavin's annoyance.
'That is very rude Whisper! Very very rude!' he thought as he looked at her firmly, before he resumed eating. "So, what year are you four?" he asked Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, Joystick, and Apple Bloom as he drank more of his milk. "Freshmen, I presume?"
"Yeah! We all are!" Sweetie Belle replied with a nod while Apple Bloom and Scootaloo said "Yep!" and "Sure thing!" respectively, with Joystick humming and nodding her head a little in response.
"Alright then. Well, I have a big piece of advice for you lovely ladies," he said to them with a smile, making them look at him attentively while Fresh Coat look at him, curious to know what he was going to say. Joystick and Derpy ignored him, more focused on their phone and muffin more than what he was going to say. "Ask your professors lots of questions, but try to do that after class is over. I have made the mistake of asking too many questions during class and been told by the teacher to not ask any more for the rest of class," he admitted with some embarrassment, making the four of them giggle with amusement while a small blush appeared on his face.
"Hmph! That's rather silly of you, Gavin," Whisper said as she floated in front of him and put her hands on her non-existent hips, shaking her body and head side to side with disappointment while she smirked a little. "A young man like you should know better than to annoy your elders like that," she continued, making him furrow his brow as he looked at her with narrowing eyes, and he opened his mouth to say something to her.
'Wait, I can't say anything to her, or else they'll think I'm crazy!' he remembered, huffing with annoyance as he stared at Whisper. 'We're definitely going to talk later Whisper,' he continued as he stared at her for a few more seconds before he looked at the girls as he continued to eat. "So how have classes been for you all so far?" he asked with curiosity as he finished his rice and moved onto his beef ramen, which he flavored with a bit of teriyaki sauce. "Rather easy, I bet, since it's the first day," he continued with a smirk before humming happily as he got a mouthful of beef stew. 'Ahh, delicious as always,' he thought while Sweetie Belle nodded in response.
"Yeah! Just a couple pages of reading so far!" Sweetie said with a smile.
"Mhm, and my math teacher Miss Inkwell seems to be really fun!" Apple Bloom stated with a wide smile. "She told a really funny story in the middle of class today about her and a feisty rabbit she met a while ago!"
"Yeah, Miss Inkwell tends to do that!" Gavin replied with a nod and chuckle as he ate his ramen. "I had heras well, and she told us lots of stories, many of them rather funny! You're in for a treat with her!" he continued with a grin, making Scootaloo let out a huff and frown as she looked at her food.
"Well I got stupid old Mr. Doku Konuta," Scootaloo said with frustration as she stabbed her chopsticks into her noodles a bit hard. "He's the worst! He's making us write a ten page essay on the different emperors of Japan, and it's due this Friday!" She continued with a groan before stuffing a large amount of noodles into her mouth with a sad look appearing on her face.
"WHAAAAAAT?!" Whisper exclaimed with shock along with her friends, who exclaimed "What?!" and "You're kidding!" at the same time, while Joystick continued to play on her phone, intensely concentrating on the screen.
"Yeah, I've had him before," Gavin replied with a sympathetic look on his face. "He's a very tough teacher, and I'm very glad I don't have him! Every person I've talked to who's had him doesn't like him or his teaching style," he continued. "He's not an evil person by any means. He's just really tough!"
"Yeah, I had him last semester, and he is not fun to have," Fresh Coat said with a nod and a small frown on her face, causing Scootaloo to let out a groan of dismay.
"Hey, as long as you're not a History Major, you won't have to deal with him again, so that's a plus," Gavin said with a small shrug of his shoulders before he finished eating his ramen and moved on to the rest of his food. "Or maybe he'll decide to retire halfway through the semester, like Mr. Mori did my freshman year, and get a substitute," he continued, making Scootaloo's despondent face become slightly less so. "Who knows?"
"Yeah! This is our first year here Scootaloo! Forget Mr. Konuta and let's enjoy it!" Sweetie Belle said encouragingly to her friend, who smiled a little as she looked at her friends, with Apple Bloom smiling warmly at her as well.
"Thanks guys. You're the best!" Scootaloo replied with a warm smile before another female voice spoke up nearby.
"Aw, hi new friends!" The voice said as a new lady approached the table, sounding very happy, somewhat high-pitched, and very, very friendly. The lady stood 5 foot 5 inches tall and appeared to be 20 years old, with grayish mulberry skin covering her curvy body. Her large eyes were moderate orchid in color, had small lashes, and her thin eyebrows were a cobalt blue. Her hair looked silky, wavy hair, and was moderate cornflower blue on top, with the rest of her hair a cobalt blue. Her hair ran to the left of the front of her head right next to her left eye and had a very short bang sitting above her left eye, with the ends of her hair ending in tiny curls while her hair ran all the way down to the middle of her large ass like a waterfall.
Sitting on her torso was a blush pink short-sleeve shirt that had her right shoulder exposed and hugged her chest, with the sleeves ending halfway between her elbows and shoulders. The thick strap of a black bra could be seen running over her exposed shoulder, while a dark violet pair of shortalls with shiny brass buckles sat on top of her shirt and hugged her large ass. The ends of the shortalls sat right above the middle of her thick thighs, with a cobalt blue heart on the front pouch on the top of the shortalls that had three iris purple sewing pins sticking out of the left of the heart and a neon cyan button with four holes sitting in the middle of the heart. A simple black necklace with several long crystals of varying lengths and shades of purple, light blue, and pink on it hung around her neck, with much smaller crystals sitting in a bracelet on her right wrist. Running from the tops of her calves down to her shoes were striped socks, with the one on her left leg having blush pink and fuscia pink stripes, and the sock on the right leg having aquamarine and aqua blue stripes. Her shoes were white with blush pink trim around the tongues of her sneakers and blush pink laces and toes, with the shoes ending just past her ankles with the same heart symbol from her shortalls on the sides of her sneakers as well. A cobalt blue backpack sat on her back via one strap, with lots of various pins visible on the side that Gavin could see.
The lady wasn't alone, as she had two other lovely ladies with her.
The one to her left stood 5 foot 4 inches tall, looked 20 years old, and had light amaranth skin covering her curvy body, with her somewhat large eyes colored a moderate malachite green. Her short eyelashes were jet black in color and her somewhat thick eyebrows were brick red. Her hair was pale light grayish gamboge and slicked back, ending at the base of her neck with a slight curl upwards.
Sitting on her torso was a bronze brown short-sleeve shirt that showed off a little bit of her cleavage and had small white buttons running down the middle of it all the way to her waist. The sleeves ended halfway between her shoulders and elbows, and the edges of her sleeves were rolled back slightly as well, with the collar of her shirt turned down a little, while a light purple beat with two dark green leaves sat on her left breast. Her shorts were chocolate brown and hugged her large ass rather well, with them ending at the middles of her thick thighs. A pair of chocolate sneakers with black soles and laces sat on her feet, ending at her ankles, while a pair of simple white socks ran up to the middle of her calves, with her skin white at that point and fading into the light amaranth color that covered the rest of her skin at her knees. A chocolate brown bag that looked a lot like a saddlebag hung on her left hip, with a large shiny brass buckle in the shape of a sheriff's badge holding it shut and a gold trophy pin with a large "1" in the middle of it on the side facing Gavin.
The one on the right stood 5 foot 2 inches tall, looked 18 years old, and had light gambogish gray and dark grayish cerise skin with white spots of varying sizes and shapes covering the visible parts of her curvy body. Her eyes were mulberryish gray, her elegant lashes were long and black, and her eyebrows were thin and black in color. Her hair consisted of multiple thick long dreadlocks that were moderate violet in color and ran down the sides and back of her head down to her shoulders and to right above the middle of her back, with two long strands sitting on the right colored day sky blue and one strand next to them that was a little shorter than them and was colored nude pink.
Sitting on her top and hugging her chest was a plum short-sleeve t-shirt that ended a few inches below her shoulders and right at her waist, with a teal blue pair of shortalls sitting on top of it. The shortalls ended at the middle of her thighs and had a large pocket on the front of her chest, with the symbol of a Russian violet heart-shaped paintboard in the middle of it. Two day sky blue paintbrushes that were crisscrossing and had white tips with magenta paint on them sat on the paintboard, with two small magenta hearts sitting to the left of the brushes on the left side of the heart. A pair of plum sneakers with white soles sat on her feet, with the laces colored teal like her shortalls. The same heart paintboard symbol sat on the outer sides of her shoes, with a white circle surrounding them while the toes of the shoes were white as well. Her backpack was day sky blue like her two dreadlocks and had a couple pins on them, while her somewhat short nails were painted like her dreadlocks.
"My name's Izzy, and this is Sapling and Violette," The cobalt blue-haired woman said with a smile before she gestured to the light amaranth woman and the spotted woman respectively, with them both smiling nervously at them.
"Wow! You look cool!" Scootaloo said as she looked at Violette as the three sat down at the table. "How are you doing that? With magic?" She asked her with curiosity.
"That's what I'm wondering!" Whisper said in agreement as she floated over to Violette and started to float around her, looking at her patterned skin closely. "I've never seen a human look like this before!" She continued with intrigue as she looked at the large patches on her arm.
"Pffft! No silly billy! She's not using magic!" Izzy said with a warm giggle as Violette gained a nervous look on her face and quickly started to eat her food. "She's got vitifigo!" She continued, making them all gain confused or intrigued looks while Violette smirked a little in response and Sapling rolled her eyes a little while smirking a bit as well.
"It's called 'vitiligo,' Izzy," Violette replied, making Whisper let out a hum of intrigue while Gavin arched an eyebrow, with Joystick glancing up from her screen for a few seconds to look her over intently before letting out a small hum of interest as she returned to her phone. Her voice sounded friendly, a bit shy, and slightly high-pitched. "It's a…um, skin condition I was born with," She continued, looking a little uncomfortable as she looked at everyone.
"Awesome!" Scootaloo said with awe with her friends nodding in agreement, while Gavin and Whisper hummed with intrigue.
"I've never heard of that condition before," He said while rubbing his chin as he looked her skin over, examining the various patterns that were visible. "Is it bad for you at all?" 'I never saw anyone with vitiligo in my old world before or in this one until now. I wonder if it's super rare or something,' he thought with curiosity.
"No way! I just have to be sure to wear a lot of sunscreen when I go out so I don't get a bad sunburn," Violette replied with a shake of her head, prompting Gavin to nod while rubbing his chin some more.
"I see," he said while Whisper looked her over again. "Well, it looks very interesting," he continued. "I like it. It makes you more unique," he finished, making her blush a little and look down at her food quickly.
"It certainly does!" Whisper said with agreement. "She's one of the most unique humans I've ever seen!" she continued with a nod. "She's like a zebra in human form!"
'What kind of zebra have you been looking at?' he questioned with confusion, amusement, and a bit of curiosity as he looked at the Yokai. 'And I know she can't see or hear you, but that's kinda rude to compare her to that!'
"Yeah, it's like you're a living splatter painting!" Fresh Coat said with a smile, making Violette blush more from the praise.
"Totally! She's Izzytastic!" Izzy replied with a smile as she hugged Violette tightly, making the woman smile wider before the two resumed eating.
"'Izzytastic,'" Gavin repeated with a smile while Derpy pulled out another muffin and held it out to Sapling with a warm smile, who arched an eyebrow before shaking her head, only for Derpy to push the muffin closer to her and leave it next to her tray with a smile. "That's a new one!" he continued with a small chuckle while Sapling looked from the muffin to Derpy with confusion before shrugging and looking down at her food as she continued to eat. "I like it!" he stated as he looked at Izzy, who smiled warmly back at him. "So, let me guess, you and Sapling are juniors, and Violette is a freshman?" He asked them.
"Yepparooni!" Izzy said cheerfully with an enthusiastic nod while Derpy's odd eyes spotted Violette's odd skin patterns and widened with awe.
"What an odd phrase!" Whisper stated as she looked Izzy over again.
"Yeah. I mean, yes I am!" Sapling said confidently with her somewhat high-pitched voice, with Gavin missing the hesitation due to her saying it the same time Izzy had spoken. "And I can't wait to graduate and take over my Mommy's company!" she continued with excitement, making Gavin look at her with an arched eyebrow.
'Did she just say her "Mommy?"' He questioned with confusion. 'That's odd,' he thought while Whisper arched a non-existent eyebrow at Sapling.
"What an odd thing to say, calling one's mother 'Mommy' at this age!" Whisper said with what he thought was disdain in her voice. "Really, she should call her 'Mother' or 'Mom,'" she continued while closing her eyes and crossing her arms, making him frown a little.
'That's very rude Whisper,' He thought as he looked at his Yokai butler. 'Very rude indeed. We're definitely going to have a talk later about this,' he continued before he heard Apple Bloom speak once more.
"What company's that Sapling?" She asked her with curiosity.
"Canterlogic!" Sapling stated proudly as she looked at them.
"The fashion and personal security company? How interesting," Gavin said with intrigue, with Whisper looking somewhat interested as she looked at Sprout, while Joystick remained silent as she continued to play on her phone, not paying one bit of attention.
"Yeah, not really," Sweetie Belle replied with a shrug and roll of her eyes as she continued to eat. "I've heard enough of that company from my big sister Rarity for a lifetime," she continued, making Apple Bloom look at her with disbelief.
"Does she really talk about it that much? I haven't heard about it much from my sisters except that their security systems can be really expensive, and we don't need em," Apple Bloom said, making Sweetie Belle sigh.
"She talks about their fashion lines all the time!" Sweetie Belle stated firmly, making their eyes widen a little. "'Canterlogic' this, 'Canterlogic' that! It's so annoying!" she continued with a groan of frustration.
"Yeesh, sounds like it," Fresh Coat said with a look of sympathy as they all ate. "Have you asked her to stop or told you how you feel?"
"Yeah, but she doesn't listen! She always responds with 'Oh Sweetie Belle, you're exaggerating things!'" Sweetie replied in a falsetto rather high-pitched voice, mimicking her sister. "Ugh! I just wished she listened to me more!" she continued with more frustration.
"Hmmm, sounds like her sister is a bit of a pain whis," Whisper said, making him frown at her again, which she failed to notice since she was looking at Sweetie Belle.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Gavin said as he looked away from Whisper and over to Sweetie Belle. "But that's how siblings can be, from what I've heard," he continued, with Whisper giving him a somewhat sad look, remembering how he'd revealed that in his old world he'd had siblings, three little sisters to be exact, who he was rather close with. "Oh, where are my manners!" he said with widening eyes as he looked at Izzy, Violette, and Sapling. "I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Gavin Woodring, and I'm a junior. And it's very nice to meet you."
"My name's Fresh Coat, and I'm a junior like Gavin here," Fresh Coat said with a warm smile before she sipped some of her drink.
"Everyone calls me Derpy, and I'm in the same grade as Gavin and Freshie!" Derpy said as she finished her muffin while her eyes looked up and down in the exact opposite directions they had been looking before. Fresh Coat smirked at the nickname Derpy had given her, clearly amused, while Sapling gave her a rather confused look.
"I'm a freshman like my friends here, and my name's Apple Bloom," Apple Bloom said with a smile as she gestured to her friends with a hand.
"I'm Sweetie Belle."
"And I'm Scootaloo," Scootaloo said, with all three of them smiling warmly at Izzy, Sapling, and Violette.
"Such odd names are fitting for such an odd-looking group, don't you think whis?" Whisper asked as she looked from the girls to Gavin, who rolled his eyes while feeling annoyed. "What, it's true!" She continued as she gestured to them with her hands.
"So, um, what's everyone's major?" Gavin asked them with curiosity. "What's everyone aiming to become when they graduate?" he added. "I'll go first. I want to get a job working with animals. Not sure what type of job exactly, but I know I want to work with animals," he continued with a large smile.
"I'm thinking painting, since I like it so much," Fresh Cat replied with a smile while having more of her drink.
"Sports for me! I want to be in the Wonderbolts, just like Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo stated firmly with a determined look on her face.
"Oh, that's a big goal to have, joining one of the most popular and best soccer teams in the entire world," Gavin said with some surprise, while Whisper looked a little intrigued. "I wish you the best of luck with that!" he continued, making her smile widely back at him.
"Thanks! You better root for me when I'm on the team!" She replied, making him smirk in response.
"I will," he said, before Apple Bloom spoke up.
"Well, I uh, I'm not quite sure what I wanna do yet," Apple Bloom said with a bit of uncertainty, scratching the back of her head as she spoke. "I know I want to keep on helpin my family with our Apple farm, but I also want to go out and do other things!" she continued with excitement, before an uncertain look appeared on her face. "I just don't know what to do yet," she stated once more.
"Don't worry Apple Bloom! You'll figure it out!" Scootaloo said to her with a smile. "Maybe you can become a carpenter!"
"Yeah! You did a great job fixing up our clubhouse at your family's farm!" Sweetie Belle said with a matching smile. "Maybe you could do that!"
"No, I don't want to do that," Apple Bloom replied with a shake of her head. "Thanks for the suggestion girls, but I'll figure it out eventually," she continued before she resumed eating.
"Well, alright, if you say so," Sweetie Belle said with some uncertainty before she looked at everyone else as she continued speaking. "I'm thinking maybe taking up singing for a career, like Sapphire Shores, or maybe ice skating," she continued. "I'm pretty good at those things."
"Yeah you are!" Scootaloo said in agreement. "You sing just as good as your sister! No, even better!" she continued, making Sweetie Belle blush from the praise.
"Yeah, you're really good!" Apple Bloom said with a nod, making Sweetie smile more.
"Oh, thank you guys! You're the best!" she replied before she gave each of them a hug with smiles on their faces, with everyone else smiling at the sight, including Whisper as she floated above the center of the table.
"Aww, how sweet! Your sparkles are so bright and shiny!" Izzy said with a warm smile as she looked at them. "I want to make art to spread happiness and joy all over the world!" She continued while Joystick sighed with a frown as her phone vibrated for a few seconds before she put it away and looked at everyone, eating a little faster as she did so.
"That sounds nice. Maybe you and Fresh Coat here can collab on some stuff," Gavin suggested before he finished his food.
"Oooooh! That sounds like an amazing idea!" Izzy replied with a large grin before she hugged Violette closer to her. "Violette could do that too, since she's also into unicycling like me!"
"What is 'unicycling?'" Joystick said with confusion, voicing what many people at the table were thinking.
"Sounds like a horrible dance routine, whis," Whisper said with a flat look on her face, making Gavin shake his head a little before quickly stopping as he looked at Izzy while thinking 'I doubt it's that Whisper.'
"Oh! It's so much fun!" Izzy replied with glee, while Sapling rolled her eyes. "I find lovely things that people throw away and make them even prettier as art!" She continued. "Oh so pretty! Like that one piece I'm working on right now! Oh, I got to get some rainbow glitter!" she said, prompting everyone to blink at the sudden change in subject. "Oh! And blue glitter! And green glitter! And ribbons!" She continued, getting more and more excited with each item she listed, before her eyes spotted something in the distance. "Oh look at that pretty butterfly! It's so pretty!" she finished as she looked at a bright yellow and red butterfly going past one of the windows.
"…Alright," Joystick said, a bit off put by her scatterbrained behavior. "Thank you for answering," she continued while Izzy continued to watch the butterfly go by with an enamored look on her face.
"What an odd girl!" Whisper said as she looked at Izzy. "But then again, every woman you've met today's been odd, so why should I be surprised," she continued with a shrug, making him roll his eyes again.
'Not every woman Whisper,' he thought before looking at Sapling. "So Sapling, you plan on taking over Canterlogic after you graduate?" he asked her, making her smile.
"Yeah! Mommy said I can as long I get really good grades!" Sapling replied with a nod. "And I've got that in the bag so far!" She continued, making him smile while Izzy giggled as she watched some more butterflies go by the dining hall, before she resumed eating.
"Well good! I wish you the best of luck with keeping those grades up!" Gavin said with an encouraging smile.
"Yes, do wish her luck, although based on what I've seen so far, she should have nothing to worry about!" Whisper said firmly with a nod and smile while crossing her arms, making him smirk and roll his eyes.
'Oh Whisper, you have no idea what you're talking about,' He thought with amusement as he looked at the Yokai, before he turned his attention to Joystick. "What about you Joystick?" He asked her. "What are your plans after graduation?"
"Game design," Joystick replied immediately with a large smile growing on her face. "I want to make games that I and everyone else can enjoy! Like maybe a sequel to Fireblade Chronicles III!" She continued.
"That would be nice! Maybe you could make a sequel to DungeonMaster," Gavin replied. "I think that game deserves one," he continued, making Joystick's smile widen.
"Yeah, that's a good one to play, although the inventory system is awful!" Joystick said with a shudder.
"No kidding!" Gavin replied with a nod of agreement. "I can't stand it!" he continued, before he looked at Derpy. "And what about you Derpy? What do you plan on doing?" he asked the woman as she ate the rest of her food.
"Mmmmm," Derpy hummed in thought, furrowing her brows deeply and rubbing her chin in thought as she did so. "Mmmm, maybe a postman, or-oooh! Maybe a chef!" She continued with widening eyes, a huge smile appearing on her face.
"Huh, interesting choices," Gavin said with a bit of surprise, cocking his head a little as well. "Would you specialize in muffins? Or do other things too?" He asked with curiosity.
"I'd do muffins, cause muffins are the only thing I don't mess up," Derpy replied with a sad look appearing on her face.
"Oh, I'm sure that's not true!" Gavin said with a shake of his head. "I'm sure there's something else you're good at cooking," he continued with an encouraging smile.
"I dunno," Derpy said with a shrug and shake of her head before she became silent, falling deep into thought once more.
'Surely she can cook something else along with muffins!' Gavin hummed as he looked at Derpy. 'Although, a bakery that sells only muffins would be pretty good, I think,' he continued with a smile before he spotted a pale, light grayish harlequin green light from the corner of his eyes, making him turn towards it.
"Oh my!" Whisper exclaimed with surprise as they saw Sweetie lifting up her chopsticks without her hands, her eyes having a tinge of pale, light grayish harlequin green, which was the same color of the glow surrounding the chopsticks. "How interesting! She's using magic to move her utensils!" she continued as she floated around Sweetie Belle, keeping at least three feet away from her while doing so as she watched her pick up some rice and put it in her mouth.
"Man, I don't think I'll ever not be amazed at the sight of magic," Gavin said with a look of awe on his face as he watched her feed herself. "Was it fun learning how to use it?" he asked her with curiosity.
"It was, kinda. It took me a long time to get to where I don't have to concentrate super hard," Sweetie Belle replied with a small frown as she ate some more rice. "Unlike my sister Rarity, who learned it a whole lot faster!" she continued with frustration and jealousy in her voice while she frowned more.
"Oh, well, that's how it is sometimes with things," He said gently as he looked at her with a smile. "I mean, everyone learns things with varying degrees of difficulty," he continued, making her sigh deeply before taking another bite.
"Yeah, I know," She replied with resignation.
"Hmmm, so she has to use mental concentration for a levitation spell. Very interesting," Whisper said as she watched her eat with her chopsticks, making him arch an eyebrow at her with confusion.
'You didn't know that? Huh. I thought she knew how magic worked here,' he thought with a bit of surprise as he looked at the Yokai, before Apple Bloom spoke up.
"So Gavin," Apple Bloom began, catching his attention. "What can ya tell us about yourself?" She asked him with curiosity, prompting him to hum while rubbing his chin in thought.
"Hmmm, well, you already know I'm a junior. I've lived in Springdale for four years now, and before that I lived the rest of my life in the small city of Shinamata," he replied with a small smile, making them gain curious and confused looks.
"Isn't that city far from here?" Violette asked with a cock of her head. "And isn't it one of the few cities in Japan where the people are not colorful like us?" she continued as she gestured to herself and her friends.
"Eh, it's only about six hours by train," he replied with a wave of his hand. "And yeah, there aren't a lot of people there that are colorful like you guys. Very few, actually. Anyways, I grew up in the city with my adoptive uncle until I moved here four years ago," he continued.
"Why'd you move?" Fresh Coat asked him with curiosity.
"I didn't like how crowded the city was getting, not to mention the pollution in it was getting pretty bad too, so I moved here," he said with a somewhat sad look on his face, which was soon replaced with a smile. "Apparently though, last I heard, things are getting better there now that they got someone new in charge of the city," he continued, making Izzy smile widely before she used her magic to lift up her food and eat it, with her magic aura colored a pale heliotrope. "What else do you want to know?" he asked them with curiosity.
"Well, do you have a special someone?" Sweetie Belle asked him, making his eyes widen a little at the question, while everyone at the table looked at him with interest, including Whisper.
"You mean a girlfriend?" He said, before he smiled and shook his head. "Nope! Never had one before!" he continued while he continued to shake his head. "I wouldn't mind having one though," he finished as he looked at them while scratching the back of his head a little. 'Never had one in my past life or in this one so far,' he silently added while Whisper gained a confused look on her face.
"That is rather odd. You may not be the most attractive human I've seen," she said, making him frown a little while thinking 'Yeah, I know I'm average-looking.' "But you are attractive, by human standards, so surely you should have had a girlfriend by now," she continued as she looked at him with an arched eyebrow.
"You haven't?" Joystick said with surprise, while Fresh Coat had a curious look on her face.
"You said you wouldn't mind having one. What about two or more?" She asked him, making everyone look at him a little bit more intently.
"You mean a harem?" he said with an arched eyebrow, before shrugging. "I mean, maybe. Right now I'd be good with just one girlfriend for now," he continued, making Whisper nod while closing her eyes. 'I still find it kinda shocking that people don't have a problem with harems here like they did in my old world, and made them completely legal. I mean, people were protesting them like crazy there, often violently. Here, I think I've heard of maybe one protest about it online, and it was so small and weak I don't think anyone took it seriously. Also, they aren't as rare here as they were back home, although they were rapidly becoming less rare. They're not super rare, but not really super common either,' he thought while remembering what he'd seen and read about in his old world and the information he'd read in his health class and online a few years ago.
"Yes, that's a good idea, Gavin. You don't want to rush into those kinds of things, after all," Whisper replied, making him feel a little surprised.
'Huh, I thought she'd be a bit surprised at least, but then again, harems were probably around before she was sealed away 190 years ago,' he thought while Sweetie Belle and her friends looked at each other with intrigued looks on their faces, glints in their eyes as well that he missed due to looking at Whisper, who was now floating right above the middle of the table. 'She's probably used to it,' he continued while Joystick looked at him with a smile before she continued to eat, with Fresh Coat grinning with a blush on her cheeks as she ate her food. Violette blushed a bit hard as she ate, looking at him from the corner of her eyes while Izzy giggled softly, with Sapling keeping a small firm smile on her face as she ate as well, refusing to look at him. 'Now what time is it?' he questioned before he pulled out his phone. 'Twelve ten already. Wow! Time really does fly by sometimes,' he continued with a smile as he pocketed his phone and looked back at the girls. "So, any other questions for me? Or is it my turn to ask?" he asked them with curiosity while hearing Izzy giggle again and mutter "Harems, marems, darems!" with another soft giggle that sounded lovely to his ears. "I'll still be around here for a few more minutes before I head to 3D printing," he continued.
"Ohhh, you have to tell me how that goes!" Joystick said with an excited look on her face before she pulled out her pitch black phone, which was covered in stickers based on various video games and started to type on it. "What's your phone number?" She asked him, making him arch an eyebrow at her with surprise.
"Um, alright," he replied with a shrug and smile as he pulled his dark purple phone back out, with an emerald green fox head on the middle of it. "It's 089-888-4599," he continued, prompting Joystick to type it in.
"Thanks!" Joystick said before she tapped on her phone some more, with him receiving a text a few seconds later that read "Hi!" "Just sent you a message," she continued while he tapped onto the "Add Contact" option on the screen.
"I got it, and I'm adding you now," he replied with a smile. "AAAAnd finished!" he continued a few seconds later as he set his phone in his lap.
"What was your number again?" Apple Bloom asked as she pulled out her phone, which was the same shade of red as her hair.
"Yeah, I didn't catch all of it," Sweetie Belle added as she and Scootaloo pulled out her phone, which was colored and patterned exactly like her hair.
"You want my number?" He asked them with an arched eyebrow. "Why?"
"Clearly to become better friends with you, whis," Whisper replied firmly, while Apple Bloom smiled at him.
"Cause that's what friends do!" Apple Bloom replied happily. "This way we can talk when we're not around each other! Don't you talk with your friends on the phone?" She asked him.
"Eh, not a whole lot recently honestly," he said with a shake of his head. "I was friends with a couple of guys on campus during my first two years here, but they've all graduated and headed back to their homes on the other side of Japan or beyond. According to the guys I've spoken with last, they're pretty busy with their jobs and other friends. And it was the same in elementary through high school too. I didn't make a lot of friends in Shinamata City, which is ironic because of how packed the schools are, although the school I went to wasn't extremely packed, thankfully," he continued with a small smirk. "I was sort of friends with a few people growing up, but sadly, we weren't really close except with four people. However, they're kinda busy a decent amount of time so we don't hang out too much. Also, fun fact, they and three other people were the only ones in the entire school who were colorful like you guys," he added with a smile, making their eyes widen with surprise. "So yeah, while I do have some friends in Shinamata City, I don't talk too much with them thanks to how busy they are. I do have a few friends in Springdale that I met when I first moved here, but pretty much all of them have been pretty busy this summer, so I haven't been able to talk or hang out with them much, except for two," he finished.
"Oh, well that's good!" Sweetie Belle said encouragingly with a smile. "You should try to visit your old friends more so you guys don't drift apart like with your other friends did," she continued.
"Yeah, I should. I was actually thinking of doing that this past summer, but I got caught up with my hobbies and a few big vacations, so I ended up not doing it sadly," he replied with a disappointed look appearing on his face. 'Very caught up, like Uncle said,' he thought.
"For shame Gavin! You shouldn't treat your friends like that!" Whisper said to him with a frown. "You should be visiting them more!" She continued, making him frown while he looked at her.
'I know, I just said that I should be doing that!' he thought as he looked at her, before Fresh Coat rested a hand on his shoulder, catching his attention.
"Well, you got some more friends now," She said with a warm smile.
"Uh-huh!" Derpy said with a nod as she held her own phone in plain view of everyone, with it covered in muffins of various colors and with various toppings on them. "You like muffins like me!" She continued with a giggle, before she started to sing "Muffins, muffins, eat them all the way to the crumbs!" in a soft voice, which made him smirk with amusement while Sapling looked at her with an arched eyebrow of confusion.
"Yeah, we'd be happy to be your friends!" Sweetie Belle said with a warm smile, with Scootaloo and Apple Bloom nodding their heads in agreement.
"I'd like that too," Violette added with a bit of shyness, having set her phone on her lap while Izzy held hers up in the air with her magic as a large smile grew onto her face, her phone completely covered in glitter and shades of heliotrope and cornflower blue that formed shimmering hearts.
"Well, Mommy did say I should make more friends," Sapling replied with a small shrug before she pulled out her phone, which was the same color as her hair. "I guess you can be mine. What's your number?" She asked.
"Well well! Looks like you've made some friends already whis!" Whisper said with a large smile as she and Gavin looked at all of them, before he smiled back at them.
"Heh, I like the sound of that," he replied with a warm smile. "I'll give you my number, but one at a time, so I know whose number I'm getting texted by," he continued before he looked at Derpy while Fresh Coat removed her hand from. "Alright Derpy, I'll start with you," he said before he told her his number.
"Yay!" Derpy said excitedly as she put the number in and texted him, prompting him to put her in as a contact. "We'll have muffin time and all sorts of fun!" she continued before she put her phone in her paper bag while her left eye looked over at a clock on the nearest wall.
"That sounds interesting," Gavin replied before Derpy got up from the table rather quickly with a gasp.
"Oh, I just remembered I was going to eat with my sister on her first day here!" Derpy said before she turned and hurried off with her things.
"Um, okay. Have a good one Derpy!" Gavin called out to her with a smile and wave as she went away.
"Bye!/See ya!/Later Derpy Werpy!" The others said, with Sapling giving Izzy an odd look for a couple of seconds before she shook her head while rolling her eyes.
"What an odd woman," Whisper said as she turned her attention back to Gavin, who rolled his eyes a little as he focused on Sapling.
"Sapling, ready to text me?" he asked her, prompting her to nod before he told her his number. "Alright, got it!" he said a few seconds later as he saw an unknown number text him, which he then added to his contacts. "Izzy, you ready?"
"Yeppers Gavy!" She replied with a large smile, making him blink a couple times with surprise.
"What did you call me?"
"'Gavy!' I'm working on a nickname for you!" She said with a giggle. "But it kinda sounds like gravy! Ooooh! Gravy sounds really good, especially on cornbread! You ever have cornbread? I have, and I find that most people make it too dry. But Achroite Bloomforth makes it perfect! It's so sweet and-"
"Woah! Woah! Izzy, you're getting sidetracked," Gavin replied, catching her attention. "I'm happy you want to give me a nickname but let me give you my number now. You can focus on the nickname later," he continued, before he told her his number, making her smile wider with excitement as she typed it in and sent him a text. "Alright, now then Violette, let me tell you my-"
"I already got it and sent you a text," Violette replied with a smile as he made Izzy a contact, before he then got texted by an unknown number. "I look forward to hanging out with you more," she continued while he smiled and entered her in as a contact as well.
"I do too, with all of you," he said happily before Sweetie Belle spoke up.
"Here's my number Gavin," She said with a warm smile before he received yet another text from an unknown number.
"And mine!" Apple Bloom added with a nod as he received another text from an unknown number while adding Sweetie Belle to his contacts.
"Here's mine! But don't give it out to just anyone!" Scootaloo said firmly as he got another text.
"Of course! I'd ask you before I would do anything like that," he replied with a firm nod before he added their info to his contacts. "And what about you, Fresh Coat?" he asked the lovely woman, who smiled warmly at him while setting her phone on the table, with it colored like her hat.
"I got it," She said as she unlocked her phone and put his number into it, with him soon getting a text several seconds later, which he then entered into his contacts. "So, you mentioned you have friends here in Springdale," she continued as she put her phone away while he kept his out so he could look at the time ever once in a while. "Who are they exactly?"
"Oh, that's a good question whis!" Whisper said as she looked at him with curiosity.
"Well, there's Carrot Cake, Cup Cake, Pound Cake, Pumpkin Cake, and Sugar Belle to start with," Gavin said, listing them off on his hand as he spoke. "I met them when I decided to explore the town one day shortly after moving here. Ended up helping them with some deliveries they'd gotten, and became friends after that," he continued.
"What about Pinkie Pie? She works for the Cakes," Sweetie Belle asked him, prompting him to shake his head.
"Haven't run into her yet at all over the four years I've been here, although I have heard about her from the Cakes. It's just that every time I've hung out with them, she's been either out on deliveries, back with her family, or sick," he replied, making them gain a bit of a surprised look on their faces. "I hope that changes soon," he continued, before shaking his head a little. "Anyways, I'm also good friends with Lyra and Bon Bon. They're good people, and I'm very happy to be their friend, along with some other people in town," he finished.
"Yeah, they're pretty good people to have as friends," Sweetie Belle said with a smile. "And Bon Bon makes some really good candy like the Cakes do," she continued while licking her lips as she continued to eat her food, making some of the other girls nod in agreement.
"Yeah, her bonbon's are really scrumptily-umptious!" Izzy said in agreement before a bit of drool started to leave her mouth as she imagined the bon bons. "Mmmm, Bon Bon's bonbons," she continued, giggling a little at the pun while Gavin and Violette smirked in response. "I need to get some from her later! They're a great snack when I'm unicycling!"
"Yeah, they are good snacks," he replied with a nod. "I have some of them in my dorm right now, actually," he continued with a smile.
"Nice," Fresh Coat said before a curious look appeared on her face. "So what are your hobbies?" She asked, prompting the others to look at him with curiosity as well.
"Yeah, do you like to unicycle?" Izzy asked with eagerness in her voice, leaning over the table while drinking up the last bit of her smoothie loudly.
"I've never actually done 'unicycling' before, Izzy," He replied with a shake of his head. "I do draw a little though. I also do jigsaw puzzles and game some," he continued.
"What games do you play?" Joystick asked with curiosity along with a bit of excitement in her voice.
"DungeonMaster, The Rise of Di, Creatures and Legends: Deluxe Edition, Lunaris: Rise of the Dark Queen, and Solaris: Celestial Collapse are the main ones I play," he replied.
"I've played a couple of those. Lunaris: Rise of the Dark Queen has a fantastic soundtrack!" Joystick said with a large smile, prompting him to nod in agreement. "And Solaris's inventory management and world-traveling mechanics are stellar! I haven't beaten Lunaris yet, but I'm enjoying it a lot so far!"
"Nice! If you want any tips for the game, let me know. I've played Lunaris at least ten times now, and beaten it each time," Gavin replied with a warm smile, before he cleared his throat. "Besides that, I also like to enjoy nature by hiking and reading books about animals," he continued. "And finally, I like to listen to music and play guitar," he finished as he looked at them all.
"What kind of music do you listen to?" Scootaloo asked him with curiosity. "Rock?"
"That and most other kinds of music, like pop and country," he replied. "Opera and jazz I don't listen to that much unless I really like a song in that genera, like the song 'What a Wonderful World,'" he continued. "Pop and rock are at the top of my favorites, especially pop, like Sapphire Shores' song 'Serves Her Right,'" he added with a smile.
"Yeah! She really deserves to be called the 'Queen of Pop!'" Sweetie Belle said with a wide smile as she nodded her head hard.
"The 'Queen of Pop?'" Whisper repeated with an arched non-existent eyebrow. "Hmph! What a silly title whis!" she continued with a shake of her head, making him smirk with amusement at her before quickly hiding it like he'd tried to do with his other expressions whenever he'd looked at Whisper beforehand, although he was certain that some of them had been noticed.
"It sucks that she's not on tour right now though," Scootaloo said with a sigh. "I want to see her perform again."
"Scoots, she ain't stopping her performin!" Apple Bloom said with a sigh and roll of her eyes. "I told ya this already yesterday! She's still going to be singing, just not as often since she's 'taking a breather' according to her assistant," she continued. "She and her dancers'll be making fewer performances this year and next."
"Oh yeah! I forgot about that!" Scootaloo said with a bit of embarrassment while rubbing the back of her head, making Apple Bloom let out a huff of annoyance while everyone else smirked or chuckled in response. "I wonder what she's doing? Maybe rock climbing?"
"Heh, that would be a sight, seeing her rock climbing," Gavin replied with a smirk. "She's probably relaxing at a spa or on a tropical island," he continued. "I mean, I don't know a whole lot about show business, but I'm sure it's very stressful and tiring."
"Ahh, a tropical island vacation sounds lovely! I would love to go on one again sometime soon," Whisper said with a happy sigh. "The sun, the sand, the waves. Peace and quiet, whis," she continued, making him inwardly smile as he glanced at her.
"It is according to my sister Rarity," Sweetie Belle said with a nod. "I've seen her come home from fashion shows extremely tired, and I've seen her get really stressed on a project when it's closer to when she's going to reveal it to the public or to important people," she continued.
"Yeah, I've done that a couple of times myself with a paint job I was hired for," Fresh Coat replied with a nod. "Nearly tore my hair out when I had one day left to finish painting the entire main room of a bookstore. Ended up spending the whole night and the rest of the day doing it," She continued with a small smile on her face. "I was so tired after that that I ended up falling asleep in my bed with my paint-covered clothes still on," she finished with a giggle, causing some of them to giggle as well, while Whisper gained an appalled look on her face.
"Oh my! What a mess that must have made!" Whisper said with alarm while shuddering at the thought of someone sleeping in paint-covered bedsheets. "Please tell me she destroyed the sheets once she woke up!"
"Took me four washes to get out all the paint in the sheets," Fresh Coat added with a small sigh, a tiny smile on her face as well. "Now I make sure I take off my clothes before I go to bed after working all night on a project."
"Hah, you know, I've done something like that before, Freshy," Izzy replied with a giggle, while Fresh Coat arched an eyebrow at her. "I fell asleep in a bucket of glitter last night!" she continued before brushing her hair with a hand for a few seconds, causing some glitter to rain out of it onto the table.
"'Freshy?'" Fresh Coat repeated, before she smirked. "I like it."
"GYAHAHAH!" Whisper exclaimed as she watched the glitter cover the table and land on Izzy's food tray. "Oh, I am so glad I do not have hair right now!" She continued with a shudder before her eyes widened as Izzy picked up some glitter-covered rice and ate it. "Oh no! She's eaten the glitter! She's going to get sick!" She yelled out loudly with alarm as she flew around the table, holding her hands to her head, as she'd learned what glitter was after seeing it at the store with Gavin a couple days earlier.
"It's edible glitter," Violette said as she ate her rice. "She's fine. Izzy knows what she's doing," she continued with a smile, making Gavin and the others feel a little relieved while Sapling smirked with amusement.
"'Edible' glitter?" Whisper repeated with surprise as she came to a stop right above Izzy, who ate more glitter-covered food with a smile.
"What flavor is it?" Gavin asked with curiosity.
"Fizzy Grape!" Izzy replied with a warm smile as she ate her food, prompting him to nod while Whisper looked at her with surprise and confusion, before she looked at her glitter-covered food.
"What an odd creation!" Whisper said with surprise and a bit of confusion, making Gavin smile with amusement. "An art supply that can be eaten safely!" she continued. "You humans certainly like to make odd things, especially with food."
'That's true. We do make some odd foods,' Gavin thought before he glanced at his phone and saw that it was 12:27. 'Almost time to go head to the 3D printing lab, since I want to talk with Whisper a little before class starts,' he continued with a smile before he looked at his new friends and Whisper. "Um, we-I mean, I'll be heading off pretty soon to my next class. So is there anything else someone would like to ask me before I go?" he asked as he put his empty things on the tray and wiped his mouth to make sure that no crumbs were left on it.
"Oh! I was wonderin if you'd like to come over and help out at my home, Sweet Apple Acres, sometime this week," Apple Bloom asked him with a hopeful smile on her face. "We could use some extra help with the apple-picking! Maybe this Saturday!" she continued, tapping her chin in thought. "I'll have to run it by my sister, but it should be fine."
"Um, sure," Gavin replied with a smile and slight shrug after thinking the offer over for a few seconds. "I don't really have anything planned this weekend, so I think it'll be fine," he continued, making Apple Bloom smile wide while Whisper arched a nonexistent eyebrow.
"Great! I'll text ya more about it later sometime today," Apple Bloom replied happily, making him smile before he got up from his seat and put on his backpack.
"I look forward to it. It was nice meeting you all," he said to them with a warm smile as he grabbed his tray and phone and started to walk away from them, with Whisper floating alongside him. "Bye!"
"Bye Gavey!" Izzy called out with an eager smile on her face as she waved goodbye to him.
"Bye!/See ya around!/Have a good one!/I'll text you later!" The other said with smiles on their faces, with Violette's voice being a bit quieter than the others.
"Well, I must say, being friends with them is going to be quite interesting," Whisper said to him as they maneuvered through the busy dining hall all the way over to the carousel, which he set his dirty dishes on before they headed towards the nearby door to leave.
"Oh yeah, definitely," He replied with a nod and smile as they walked. "That's what great about friends. They make things interesting," he continued before they exited the hallway, completely unaware of the three ladies from earlier watching them leave and sighing "Aaaaaah" in unison along with a pair of light brilliant amber eyes, a pair of brilliant orange eyes, a pair of moderate cyan eyes, and a pair of pale, light grayish violet eyes, the eyes having a glimmer of recognition in them.
Well this was an interesting chapter!
