- Sven -

I open my eyes to find myself in what looks like a nurse's office. Sitting up in the bed I'm surprised that I'm not nearly as sore as I expected to be.

[Quest Completed]

[Pass the entrance exam]

Reward: x1 Status Recovery

Bonus Objective: [Get into Class 1A]

Reward: 1 Roll

Actually, I'm not sore at all. Which isn't what I expected after- ugh, the last bit of the exam hits me in full force.

I can't believe I exerted all that effort only for it to not be needed at all. Sigh, hopefully it looks like I was about to do something, and it doesn't just seem like I passed out due to fear. I doubt that would get me much rescue points.

And holy shit. I was suspicious since Kara seemed to have both flight and super strength. Which is why I asked about the symbol on her jacket. I spotted it earlier but thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me in the dark room.

I wonder if she's an alien or she just has a family of superheroes here and a similar backstory. What is she doing in Japan though, she's obviously more comfortable speaking English, I can probably just ask her later.

As comfortable as this bed is, I should check on where Izumi is. Since Inko should be picking us up after the exam, and I'm not sure how much time has passed.

After I sit up and begin putting on my shoes, the door opens, and an old short lady comes in.

Seeing that I'm awake she smiles and makes her way towards me.

"You had plenty of people worried about you honey" Recovery girl softly chides. "Your condition wasn't too bad. Just a case of exhaustion and soreness. I've healed you up, but I'd recommend relaxing for the rest of the day and eating lots of proteins and carbs."

I nod "Sounds good doc, am I good to go? I'm sure my sister and mom are worried"

"It's fine. The principle let them know that you were at the nurse office. It's only been an hour since you passed out anyways" She waves off my concern. "But it's not like there's anything else wrong with you, so you can leave."

Thanking her, I get up, and head to the entrance of the school. There I find a tired looking Izumi, and Inko is waiting by the entrance.

When inko spots me, she waves. Meanwhile Izumi looks at me with furrowed eyebrows and then looks away.

Oh boy…

It's a mostly silent walk to the car until I prompt a conversation.

"So, how was your exam?"

"…it was good, I'm sure I got top 3. Not sure about first place though. Heard there was a girl with two strong quirks in one of the other sites who got loads of points"

The silence comes back but only for a few beats.

"….. Since when have you had a quirk?"

Ah, now the vibe makes a lot more sense.

How did she even find out?

From what recovery girl said Nezu told them I was in the nurses office. He probably told them I overexerted myself during the practical test. And the natural follow up question is "why would he be taking that, he's quirkless?" Or something along those lines.

Looking away from Izumi, I look forward and spot inko also glancing at us through the rear-view mirror.

I've never been the greatest liar, but I've heard that the best lie is wrapped around a core of truth.

"You remember a few weeks ago when Bakugo got taken hostage by that sludge villain?"

A frown adorns Izumi's face while inko, still focused on driving, seems like she's paying attention.

"Yeah, I remember how everyone kept sucking up to him about it. What's that have to do with it?"

"I stumbled into the area on accident, and the villain tried to take me hostage. That's when I got my quirk."

Izumi stays silent, and Inko has a pensive frown on her face, probably at me almost being a hostage too.

"Why didn't you tell us?"

The question of the hour.

"I couldn't decide what I wanted to do. It's not like I had any plans let alone after a quirk came a long and threw a ranch in all of them. It also came a decade too late but now that I had it a lot more paths opened."

Izumi's, still frustrated, continues to ask "But how'd you end up applying for the hero course? Forget wanting to be a hero, you rarely wanted to be around them."

I look at her with a sad smile. "You know how this society works, even in non-hero related professions, a quirk can have a lot of sway. Things like pay, position, and flexibility can all be influenced."

Seeing Izumi stay silent, I continue.

"And honestly after finally getting a superpower, I want to use it. And can't do that legally if not as a hero in training."

Izumi looks like she wants to say more but stops herself. Biting her lower lip, her eyes narrow as she turns to the left to stare outside the window. With her elbow propped on the car, and cheek resting on her palm, she mumbled something I can barely hear.

"Even still…. you should've at least told me"

I sigh as I look out the window on my side. It's a silent ride home.

I should've assumed dinner would've been just as silent.

Well, not completely silent as an awkward conversation is had with All Might.

"So…. you have a quirk?"

I sigh "…. Yep"

He opens and closes his mouth a few times before finally finding the right words. "Well…Did you want…help training with it?"

"…not really" I wouldn't really be able to train it freely with you there anyways and thinking back to that girl- "and I already got a bit of hep from someone"

"-?"

All Might seems…. confused? or frustrated? I can't tell. His skinny face makes it hard to read.

A huff escapes my lips as dinner is coming to an end. I'd rather it not be this awkward all the time.

"Sorry I didn't tell you guys. I initially just wanted time to figure out what I wanted to do with it, but after a while I didn't know how to bring it up." I bow my head slightly

A few beats of silence pass before inko breaks the silence and I look up.

"Oh, it's fine sweetie, I'm sure we're all just surprised."

Somehow, I don't feel like that's the case with the other too.

Finishing up the meal I head upstairs leaving a silent All Might and a chiding Inko.

Getting ready for bed, I'm ready to turn in for the night but looking at Izumi's side of the room I pause.

Sitting on her bed I feel her shift away slightly and start sleeping on her side, facing away from me.

"Hey Izumi, I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the quirk."

Crickets.

"I know it's late but if you want, we can talk about it. Not sure if there's anything you could analyze but I'll answer all your questions?"

More crickets

Sigh, yea I don't know what else I could say-

"I just- didn't think it was this bad. That you wouldn't even tell me when you got a quirk…I'm sorry"

I hear her choke up and sniffle at the end. Oh boy…

I fight to stop myself from releasing a heavy sigh.

"Well, I guess we both could've done better." I chuckle and pat the mop of hair not covered by the blanket.

She peers just the top of her face from the blanket. Her eyes show the tiniest bit of tears and a small blush on her cheeks. "Stop acting like I'm younger than you" and moves my hand

She sits up and I can see that she's smiling, that's good. I'm not really up for any teen drama at the moment.

"I'll do better from now on. But you better not keep anymore secrets"

I feel slightly bad about lying but that's an issue for future me to deal with.

Giving her a nod she smiles.

"Soo, what is it?"

Smiling I cross my legs on the bed and start explaining my quirk.

I ended up explaining a little more than I expected. Not that Izumi wouldn't have caught on since she's smart.

She quickly started asking about things like my limits and if I've felt them change with contonious use of the quirk. Explaining that since I'm such a late bloomer the quirk might be more powerful than it initially shows.

She explained how it didn't have to be anything crazy, but just that it might not be as limited as I 'believed'. She referenced how people who undergo late quirk activation in life due to stressful situations, develop a quirk based on their need at that moment. And for me that need was a way to attack the villain in front of me.

I've got to give it to her, while none of that was right when it came to me, she still wasn't wrong about my self-imposed limits. I ended up explaining how I think I'll be able to do more with more practice, but that I wanted her to keep it a secret for now.

As I lay in bed and look at the results of my Roll, I'm glad I decided to go with the weak quirk path.

Epic Roll

[Dragon Tongue] (3 uses)

A power unique to dragons now at the tip of your tongue. Power dwells within the words you say.

It seems I'm still on a roll when it comes to getting limited use powers. But it's another Epic so I'm not complaining.

While this sounds quite good, the descriptions a bit too vague for me to know how I can use this.

And the fact that it's limited to three uses means I can't really experiment. Though considering how it's a dragon's skill, and dragons are usually at the top of most fantasy food chains, I think it's safe to say that it's quite strong.

Asking the system also didn't help as it just stayed silent. Well, that's another trump card for now. One that's better than the Explosion Amulet, at least if I want to be inconspicuous.

Closing the interface, I close my eyes and drift to sleep.

-A Few Days Later-

I found that I've hit a slight wall for my wind slash quirk. Or at least it seems like progression has slowed down with it. At least when it comes to the number of attacks, there's other avenues I could test out like fine control and maybe using it as a shield or armour. That's something to consider later though.

Holding an envelope in front of me, I look at the side where a bouncing Izumi is located. Apparently, she already opened her results, and I can only assume they're good from how she's glowing.

I would've liked to take a shower first since I just worked out at the gym. I've been going there more now that the exams done, so I'm not in as much of a rush to get a hold of my quirk.

I do still head to the beach every other day to train my quirk, usually after workouts. Even if it doesn't seem to be improving.

Izumi snapping her fingers to get my attention. She seems excited for me to check my score. I'm assuming that means I passed. I think they showed canon Midoriya the leaderboards when he saw his results, but we'll see.

Ripping it open a tiny disc falls out with a paper letter still inside the envelope. The disc starts projecting a holographic screen of Aizawa, who congratulated me on passing the exam.

He reveals that despite the slightly above average villain points score. The thing that ensured my passing and admittance into 1A was my rescue points. An extra sum of 33 points.

Which I got for stopping the debris heading towards Mineta, helping him get away from the zero pointer, and getting ready to protect him from said falling robot.

Though Aizawa doesn't finish off without criticizing me passing out due to quirk overuse and saying that it'll be addressed in class.

I don't get any time to digest the message as Izumi squeals and almost tackles me with a hug. Her happiness is infectious though as I start feeling a myself grin.

-A Few Days Later-

Jogging towards the beach I think about the upcoming week. School should be starting in tomorrow.

It's almost been a month since the exam, and it's been quiet since. My routines mainly been working out, power training, sleep, and hanging out with Izumi.

I've been working on my wind magic since, but mainly on different applications. Things besides the basic wind slash I've been using.

Things like making fine lines of wind, for more subtle and lethal attacks. It was hard at first. It took more concentration than I expected but it became easier after practicing it with a clear image in mind.

Other exercises I did consisted of slowly expand and fill air between my own shirt, before making it pop. Almost like popping a balloon under your shirt but more blunt force. I would know since I had to experiment on myself.

I also tried recreating the wind arrows, from my first training session. They came out quite good, but I could only do two at a time. Since the arrowhead was a spinning cone, the arrows would penetrate and cut away at the target.

Overall, I've improved the overall power quite a bit since initially getting it. But I think I'll reach the limits of what I can do with it soon. So I can only hope to get quests, and rolls, soon.

Reaching the beach, I stop to catch my breath before stretching a bit and starting my workout for the day.

-Next Day-

Looking up at the building, I look back at Inko driving off and Izumi waving at her. Izumi's wearing a grey school uniform, with a red tie and dark green skirt.

I'm wearing the same uniform but with pants instead. Looking around I see many other students walking past the gates and into the school. Some look older than others, my second- and third-year seniors I assume.

As we make it into the building Izumi has stars I her eyes as she takes in everything the school has to offer.

I can't lie I marvel at the sight as well, this school has ridiculously good interior design.

Before long we end up reaching the frankly oversized doors of Class 1A. I wonder if that's to accommodate any crazy big mutation students.

I can see Aizawa in the sleeping bag on the floor. We make eye contact, I decide not to say anything and just walk in.

A loud Ida is berating Bakugou for having his feet on the table.

"Piss off, four eyes."

Bakugou's eyes move towards us and while he's not surprised at seeing Izumi here, his eyes narrow at my presence.

Unfortunately, before I can steer clear of the ticking time bomb Izumi pulls me towards him.

"The hell are you doing here?" The question is clearly meant for me but-

"Silly Bakugo I passed the exam, of course I'd be here" She shakes her head in an exaggerated way with exasperation in her tone.

Is she's doing that on purpose? His incredulous look is funny though. Chuckling I decide to sit on Izumi's left, putting her between me and Bakugo.

Looking around I see a few familiar faces from the show. I make eye contact with the person closest to me, Mina Ashido, who's sitting on my right.

We both smile and greet each other.

"I remember you from the practical, your quirk shoots out slashes, right?"

I nod. "Yup that's me, were you the girl with the acid quirk?"

She quirks her eyebrows before smiling slyly.

"Wow, I didn't realize you were paying that much attention to me during the exam"

I wave it off "Nah, I just like being aware of my surroundings"

She grins playfully before introducing herself and going for a handshake. I respond in kind, after which she turns to talk to someone else.

I'm not bored for long as right after the door slides open and another student walks in. As soon as she spots me, she beelines towards me.

Recognizing Kara I wave towards her, it's no surprise she's in here. She did get first place after all.

"Hey! I'm glad you're all right. I tried staying with you at the nurse's office but Nez- uh principal Nezu dragged me away…oh congrats on making it in by the way!" She's speaking in English so I do as well.

I chuckle "Don't worry about it, thanks for taking me to the nurse's office. And congrats to you too first place is a pretty big deal."

As she playfully puffs her chest out in pride and a smug smile makes its way to her face I continue. "Hope you've got something planned for the sports festival speech."

Her smile turns crooked, "S-Speech?" Before I can answer a rude grumpy voice interjects.

"If you're here to socialize then leave."

Kara pipes down and sits in front of me, probably so she can take to me whenever. I'd like to say we're friends at this point and it's not like anyone else can speak English in the class.

Aizawa explains that we're going to skip the school entrance ceremony to conduct a practical fitness test.

Despite the slight protest from the other students, we all end up moving towards the changing rooms to get ready for the test.

While going with the rest of the class I wonder if I would've seen the big three at the ceremony. I'd imagine they have some role to play given their title. Though I don't recall if that title actually meant they had any status or just that they were the top 3 of their year.

Going into the boy's locker room, we all get changed and make our way into the field. Aizawa asks Kara how far she threw the ball in middle school.

"Uh…. 70 meters?" Her answer's almost like a question, which makes it pretty obvious that she either doesn't remember or made that number up.

Aizawa stated at her for a second before asking her to throw the ball but using her quirk.

Kara steps into the circle and without much flair pulls her hand back and throws the ball.

The simple throw generates a gust of wind that threatens to make everyone behind her stumble.

While I pretended to put my arm in front or my face I made a small transparent wind shield in front of me. This let me see just how fast and far the ball flew. But that's not saying much since it only took a few seconds for the ball to be out of sight

Aizawa says his whole gist of us pushing ourselves to our limits while showing us Kara's score, which is a ridiculous 1200m. Considering how effortless her throw looked, I'm inclined to think that's not the furthest she could've thrown too.

The class goes from silent to loud, chattering about how cool hero school is and this exercise being fun. This prompts Aizawa to give his whole spiel about taking this seriously and the last place student facing expulsion.

My power could realistically help with every single test, but it would be pretty obvious it's not limited to wind slashes if I use it for all of them.

I know I won't rank last as long as I get a decent score all around, so I decide to just use my powers for the ball throw and the grip test

…..

I performed averagely for most of the tests, save for the stamina test where I ranked pretty high, outlasting most of the class.

The grip test would've been embarrassing had I not used my powers to make a thin band of wind around the grip. Since despite all the working out I've been doing I haven't really done any grip training.

As Izumi steps onto the circle, she's holding the ball in her left hand. Her right hand is covered by a translucent bubble that's covered in bits of green electricity.

Izumi's original quirk, pre "mutation" is barrier. A force field quirk. The barriers being somewhat sturdy when she was a kid but becoming better as she got older.

She could use them to cover her whole body and be a shield, or just her hand while punching something to do more concussive damage. I do remember her at some point learning how to make the bubbles pop at the moment of impact to do more damage.

She could also apply a reflective effect on the barrier that made it so whatever was inside them became invisible. Overall, it's a versatile quirk, and that's before adding OFA to it.

Izumi throws the ball in the air and as it falls back down punches it with her right hand. The electrify intensifies for a second before the circle pops and the ball is launched into the air.

A strong gust of wind hits everyone and as we wait for the score, Izumi's checking her right hand.

Aizawa calls out the score while having the screen face towards her.

"1053 meters."

Though this score easily ranks her in the upper echelons of the class, Izumi has a frown on her face as she mutters something.

"Good job." As she walks back, I give some words of encouragement. Holding out my fist, she gives me a fist bump with a smile.

"Thanks…. I was hoping I'd get a higher score than her.." Her? Probably Kara since I'm sure no one else got a higher score- oh never mind, I think I see Uraraka stepping into the circle.

"Since it seems like she's top in the class in terms of fire power….and these tests too"

As she's saying this, I see Uraraka's ball float up into orbit and Aizawa calls out her score.

"Infinity, the balls in orbit."

Izumi spins around and gapes. She turns back around and laughs, "Wow, our classmates sure have some amazing quirks!"

"I get what you mean though, about Kara." She's easily going to be ranking first on these tests. Since flight + super strength has helped her dominate mostly everything from the dash and long jump all the way to the ball throw and grip test.

"Kara?" She hums "I saw her talk to you earlier in class, how do you know her?"

"I met her in that big lecture hall with present mic and we were in the same test site, so I was talking to her on the way there too."

She hums again while looking away," She seemed awfully close with you for someone who you just met once a month ago..."

Hm? I look away from Mineta, who's creating a chain of sticky balls, and look at Izumi.

"Jealousy isn't a good look on you, Izumi"

Chuckling I ruffle her hair, which causes her to blush and swat my hand away in protest.

"Not jealous, just making an observation." She mutters.

As she finishes saying this, Kara walks over to us.

"I didn't think I'd lose on one of these tests, at least not that badly. I mean infinity?"

I laugh, looks like she didn't expect people to get close to her score let alone demolish it. "Bet you wish you didn't hold back on your throw?"

Kara chuckles nervously, "Was it that obvious?" She sighs, "Yea, if I'd known I would've tried throwing the ball into orbit too." She says regrettably.

Before continuing anything I introduce her to Izumi, since it'd be rude not to. As they exchange greetings and say hi, I realize how Kara's been speaking Japanese for that conversation. It's already sounding a lot better than at the entrance exam. That's quite the fast improvement-

"Sven Yagi, you're up." Aizawa's monotone voice cuts off my train of thought and I see Mineta coming back to the rest of the class.

As I move to step into the circle, Izumi gives me a slap on the back for encouragement.

Before we started these tests, I had asked Aizawa if I could use any aid for my quirk.

He thought for a bit and then said it'd be fine if I couldn't use my quirk at all without it, like Ayoma. But if there was any way I could use my quirk without it, he wanted to see how I would do it.

So not using anything sounded like a sure it would bet me some bonus points with Aizawa.

I initially planned to keep the handicap of an aid for a while until I talked with Izumi that night. I figured at some point I'll have to show more of what my quirk can do, so it might do me good to at least show small improvements. Removing the handicap but still limiting it to wind blades is probably good for now

And as long as UA keeps providing me with rolls, I'll have plenty of cards to pull in case of emergencies.

Now, with my eyebrows furrowed, I'm pretending to be in deep thought on how to make use of my quirk.

Taking a deep breath, I throw the ball and watch as it reaches the peak of its arc. Just as it stars falling, I throw a horizontal chop and fire off a cleave using my arm. Though I made this one less sharp and more blunt to get it further and not cut the back in half.

I repeat the same move once more before getting a bit worried since the balls getting further and further. And it's getting very heard to aim it.

Though the farther it goes the more I can subtly adjust the target to make sure it hits without anyone noticing but the further the range the more draining that is.

Deciding that my third slash will be the last I put more umph into it and launch it as fast as I could.

As it reaches the ball, I slightly tilt it downwards as it would've been just above the ball. I make sure to dissipate it as soon as it hits it.

I estimate the ball would've probably reached 40- no, maybe 50 meters without a quirk. With the three boosts from my cleaves it reaches a whopping 370 meters.

Feeling just a bit of sweat, I let out an exaggerated huff, and act as it that took more effort than it did.

Aizawa monotone voice cute my train of thought.

"Not bad" He turns towards the class to show them the score after showing me "370 meters"

"Woo-hoo!" Izumi shouts in encouragement, while Kara gives me a thumbs up.

I didn't miss Bakugou's glare, but considering he didn't charge at me, it really doesn't seem like he cares about me getting a quirk as much as he did Midoriya in canon.

After a couple more students did their throw, the test came to an end. I wound up ranking towards the bottom.

Mineta, who was staring at his last place rank, looked like an empty husk of a human. It looked pretty sad, but I knew Aizawa wasn't going to expel him…. probably.

Knowing Aizawa wasn't going to do it made it kind of funny.

Just before Aizawa leaves, he turns to us with a big grin and says, "Oh yea, that stuff I said about expulsion? It was just a tactical ruse to make sure you did your best!"

While the class goes into an outcry and Mineta looks like life was breathed into him, I was more focused on Kara.

I don't remember any version of Supergirl that looked like this, though that's not saying much since it's not like I'm an expert on all Supergirl content.

The most I know about her is probably from the CW show and that's sad, she wasn't even blonde there.

I'm just worried about a multitude of different things this could mean.

Is she actually Supergirl and is this universe also DC? I haven't seen anything DC or about a Justice league but maybe that hasn't happened yet.

Or is she an in-universe character that just happens to have a flight and super strength quirk…. yea right, somehow that sounds less likely than the former.

As Kara notices me staring, she awkwardly looks away and looks back a few times while scratching her cheek with a finger.

I look away from her as Izumi pinches my side and gives me an unamused look. While heading to the locker room to change, prompting me to do the same.

Maybe I could just ask Kara? It's not like she hid anything when I asked her about her family symbol.

But how would I go about asking her about it?

'Hey Kara, are you an alien?'

'Hey Kara, are you from another universe?'

'Hey Kara, does the name Superman mean anything to you?'

…wait that last one doesn't sound too bad. Worst case is she says 'No?' And it's just me striking up conversations.

Now if she says yes, that's another can of worms I'll be opening.

Like how I'll explain my knowledge or my knowing of that info.

Maybe I could say I'm from there too, or have knowledge about it? It's not like anyone besides her would be able to disprove it. But this could be bad if someone else knows about her (possible) otherworldly origin.

Ugh I'm thinking about too many what ifs for anything to really matter right now.

What to do, what to do?

Authors Note: Sven has not seen My adventures with superman s2 that's for sure. But he'll come to see Kara's greatness I'm sure.

This took a lot longer to get out than I expected. Some of these scenes were not my favorites in the anime so it was a slog to get through, especially the upcoming hero training class.

Lots of character interaction this chapter, and a bit of drama esp with Sven having a quirk being revealed to his fam.

As always hope you enjoyed writing and leave a review!
