It was finally time, Danny was nervous, but he wasn't sure why. He checked his phone for the tenth time in the span of just a few minutes, and read 5:50. He only needed a few minutes to get there, so he'd just been stalling for a while. A few moments later, however, his impulsiveness got the best of him, and he decided to just be early. He grabbed his bag, and jogged down the stairs, saying a short bye to his friends hoping to avoid their snarky comments. He put Kate's address on his phone's maps app and memorised the route before speeding towards the place. He decided to stop in a nearby alleyway and walk the rest of the journey. As he made his way to Kate's house he couldn't help but feel that the streets looked familiar. He hadn't really run around New York that much, but he'd definitely seen this place before. Then he saw it. A large tower was under construction, which he recognised as the previous Avengers tower. And the building he was going to was right across the street. A building in which Derek Bishop owned a penthouse
He stopped in the middle of the sidewalk for a few moments, earning him a few insults from the other pedestrians, but he quickly returned to his normal sense. He hadn't noticed before, but the perimeter of the apartment building was swarming with armed guards. At first he thought that he had put in the wrong address but he spotted the same car that he'd seen drop Kate off in the morning parked outside. There was no doubt about it. Kate was Derek Bishop's daughter. As much as he didn't want to, he mustered up all of his courage, stepped towards the door and entered the lobby. He told the teller why he was there and was instructed to get in the elevator and stop at the 16th floor. When the elevator doors opened, Danny was immediately stopped by two armed guards.
"Can we help you?" One of them asked suspiciously.
"Yeah, I'm here to see Kate," He replied.
The two guards nodded at each other and let him through. The front door of the penthouse was right across from the elevator and before Danny could even ring the doorbell, the door swung open and he was greeted by Kate wearing a pink headband in her hair.
"You're late," She said playfully inviting him in and Danny realised that all of the time he had spent pacing around the block had lost him a few minutes
"Yeah, the subway's pretty blocked up," He fabricated.
Just the entry hall to the house was huge, just a bit larger than the one in the Newyorker mansion. By the door was a coat hanger however, it only had a few coats in it all of which looked like they belonged to Kate and a large black Adidas bag. Beside that was an umbrella pot with a singular purple umbrella, and adjacent to that were three boards. A standard adult-sized skateboard, an adult-sized penny board, and a modified skateboard with massive tires and what looked like 2 tiny jet engines on the sides.
"Yeah the subways pretty slow around here, you're lucky to have gotten here so fast," Kate said suggestively
"Yeah, you could say that," Danny replied inattentively, admiring the huge entry hall he was in, before following Kate into a large living room, where he could see Kate's school books neatly placed on one of the tables.
"I'm gonna get a drink, do you want anything?" Kate asked.
"Waters fine," Danny replied, and Kate walked down a hallway, disappearing into a room. Danny was about to take a seat when he noticed something. There were a lot of framed pictures throughout the living room, but one of them was faced down. Danny glanced over at the hallway that Kate walked through and went to see the picture. He lifted the picture frame and almost dropped it back onto the table. Inside the frame was a pretty old photo with what looked like a young Kate holding a children's bow with Clint. He wanted to take a closer look at the photo, but he could hear Kate's footsteps approaching, so he placed the photo back as it was, and sat into a seat at super speed.
"Here's your water," Kate said, returning with a grape-flavoured PRIME and handing Danny a bottle of water.
"Thanks," He replied, taking the bottle.
Kate sat down beside him, and they both took out their physics packets and got to work. They finished their work quite quickly and spent the rest of their evening getting to know each other better.
"So, is this entire place just yours?' Danny blurted out.
"Uhh, sorry if that, was- just forget I said anything," He retreated
"No, it's okay," She reassured, "I live with my dad, he's in LA for a few days but he made sure to leave me with enough company,' she added, making a gun shape with her fingers.
"Yeah, that's quite the army you've got outside," Danny commented
"They didn't hassle you did they?" She asked a little concerned
"Nah, just standard procedure," Danny said
"What do you know about standard military procedure," She asked
"Mission impossible," He joked,
"Anyways, what about you, who do you live with?"
"No parents, so I live with my friends," Danny responded
"Oh- I'm sorry,"
"Nah, it's okay,"
"Don't you have a guardian?" Kate asked riskily
This question boggled Danny for a few moments. He was pretty sure that legally, Monica was his guardian but he never saw her as more than his mentor.
"I- Well- It's complicated," Danny stammered
"Alright, gotcha," Kate replied, reading the room
"But at least it must be fun, living with your superhero friends," She said a little unenthusiastic
"Yeah it-," Danny started realising what she had just said.
"What," Danny said, expertly faking confusion.
"Come on Danny, it's pretty obvious if you know what you're looking for,"
"Kate seriously, I don't know what you're-" He was cut off by Kate triple pressing the button on her watch and out of the side facing Danny shot out some sort of projectile. Danny instinctively turned on his powers, causing his perception of the world to exponentially slow, making it look like everything was in slow motion. Because of this, he was able to get a good look at the projectile. It was small. Very small. But on the tip, he saw something. Some kind of liquid substance. Danny couldn't identify it at that moment but preferred not to risk it, so he raised his arm and caught the projectile.
"How'd you know?' He asked, with his entire atmosphere shifting to complete seriousness
"I had my suspicions until today when I saw you with my tracking device," She explained, and the pieces. Started falling together in Danny's head.
"You're the archer from the warehouse," Dannny said matter of factly
"And your friend Peter should probably keep his mask on when he's on a secret mission," She commented.
"Look, Kate, you've gotta understand-"
"Don't worry, your secret's safe with me. Besides were on the same side," Kate reassured
"Chitauri tech in the wrong hands is dangerous, I think The Vulture proved that," Kate explained
"But your dad's the one distributing them," Danny said, confused about her intentions
"Exactly, he's working with some bad people. The dangerous kind who get what they want no matter what, the kind that never seems to go away," Kate said
Almost immediately, Danny's stomach dropped. He had a feeling that he knew exactly what "Bad people" Kate was referring to.
"And one of his minions stole your friend's vibranium," She added
"I've gotta go," Danny said.
"If you're gonna tell the rest of your team, then I'm coming with you," Kate exclaimed matter-of-factly.
"Kate I can't-,"
"Come on, I can help, and I've got a lot more intel to share,"
Danny thought about it but decided she was right. He wouldn't have known all of this if it weren't for her.
"Alright, let's go," The speedster replied
"Let me get my board," Kate said, and they both walked to the entry hall. Kate grabbed the modified board and slung the black Adidas bag onto her back.
Kate opened the door, and they both stepped out of the house and into the elevator, descending to the ground floor. Danny walked through the lobby into the street whilst Kate held back, telling something to one of the receptionists.
"What'd you tell him?" Danny asked
"I just told him that I was leaving for a bit," They said, and they walked into the alleyway that Danny had stopped in when he arrived.
"So how does this whole super speed thing work?" Kate asked as Danny switched on his powers.
"Just hold on tight, and try not to open your eyes," Danny replied, and Kate grabbed onto him.
Danny shot out of the alley at mach speed. He manoeuvred his way through the streets of New York, and into the forest where the house was located, skidding into the entry hall of the mansion.
"We saved you a pizza like you asked," Wanda yelled from the couch after hearing Danny enter. The three other Newyorkers had already finished their homework and were watching Arrow.
"Pizza's gonna have to wait," Kate spoke up, letting go of Danny, causing everyone to look over at the door.
"Holy Shit," The three other Newyorkers said in unison.
