"Kate?!" Wanda exclaimed.
"Danny, can we talk to you for a sec?" Peter asked, and the four Newyorkers conversed under the stairs outside the elevator door.
"Are you mad!" Shuri whisper-yelled, putting her index finger against her temples.
"Did you run here with her?" Peter asked
"Yeah but-" Danny started.
"Do superheroes work out of their living room," Kate commented loudly, and they all shifted their heads to look in her direction
"You told her about us," Wanda asked and they went back to looking at Danny
"No, she-"
"I figured it out," Kate said, joining them. "You guys made it kind of obvious," She added and Shuri's eyes shifted to what she was holding by her side.
"Is that a rocket board?" Shuri asked excitedly, pushing through her friends to get to Kate.
Kate simply nodded.
"Did you build this?" Shuri asked
"Yeah, I was trying to make a hoverboard but I didn't have a strong enough power source,"
"I can get you a power source," Shuri replied grinning
"Shuri!" Wanda exclaimed a little surprised and disapproving
"Look, guys, I get that this isn't conventional, but she already knows who we are and she knows where the stolen vibranium is,"
"How do you know where it is I haven't been able to locate it cause it's deactivated and it's indistinguishable from common metals,"
"Well, I know who has so I basically know where it is.,"
"Shouldn't we go to the basement first, we've got work to do and we can't do it here," Danny suggested
For the moment, the team still didn't trust Danny's judgement, but they were at a standstill in their work and showed Kate to the elevator door.
For a few moments, Kate was a little confused until Peter pressed the down button in the elevator and they descended into the basement.
"Okay, start talking," Wanda said, crossing her arms and sitting on the head of the couch facing the door.
"Kate simply opened her bag and pulled out a bow and a singular blue arrow. She armed her bow and shot the arrow that missed Wanda by an inch and pierced the opposite wall. As soon as it did, everything in the basement turned off for a short second.
"It was you. At the warehouse," Peter concluded
"In the flesh," Kate replied.
"She's Bishop's daughter-," Danny started
"And I want to help," Kate said, finishing the speedster's sentence.
Wanda glared at Danny, which he didn't notice, and decided to speak up about her concerns.
"How-"
"I'm not working with my dad," Kate said, cutting Wanda off and replying to her question before she asked it
"I wasn't gonna-"
"Yes you were, I could see it on your face,"
"Excuse me Newyorkers," Ava said, appearing in her golden holographic form on the table and attracting everyone's attention.
"I have completed Shuri's simulation," She added
"What's the outcome," Shuri asked, jumping over the head of the couch and leaning on the table.
"You guys called yourselves the Newyorkers?" Kate commented to Danny to which he didn't respond
"After analysing data from the Chitauri tech confiscated by Shield, it would be possible to recreate a less advanced but functional version of the sonic destabilisers used in Wakanda, but it would require a large enclosed area and many hours of constant usage."
"Surprisingly, Bishop being able to re-activate the vibranium is the least of our worries. I think- I think he's going to sell it to Hydra," Danny revealed, surprising everyone. Especially Kate.
"Are- are you sure," Wanda asked
"I don't have any definitive evidence, but I've got this feeling in my gut. Hydras up to something,"
"No- My dad wouldn't go that low,"
"I don't think he is, he's most likely being blackmailed," Wanda suggested
"The most incriminating thing my dad has done is forget my tooth fairy money when I was 5, what could Hydra be using against him?" Kate asked but it was more directed towards herself.
"Isn't it obvious?" Wanda said, catching everyone's attention
"You," Wanda announced matter of factly
"You're his only child, there's no better leverage than that," Shuri added
"Wanda might be onto something, I mean you said it yourself your dad has an entire squadron stationed outside your house cause he's out of town for a few days," Danny added.
"And Bishop security started upgrading our school just before you joined," Shuri finished.
Kate stood silently and expressionless, processing everything that had just been said.
"Okay, this is a pretty bad situation and there's a lot at stake so we're gonna need to act quickly," Peter announced, grabbing everyone's attention and changing the subject.
"But we also can't go out unprepared. Last time we tried the ambush tactic, we got caught off guard but we can't let that happen again,"
"Kate, do you have any idea what kind of security your dad might have in place?" Peter asked.
"Yeah," The archer replied, clearing her throat.
"He's definitely gonna have the Rhino there," She added
"Your dads leaving a Rhino to guard Vibranium?' Shuri questioned.
"Not an actual rhino," Kate corrected "That mech suit you guys fought,"
"Try and list all that you can, anyone and anything that you think might be there," Peter commanded
"Danny, I know this is a touchy subject for you, but see if you can do the same for Hydra. We need to know what they're capable of," Peter said, and Danny lowered his head at the mention of his former allegiance.
"Yeah, I'll see what I can remember," He said, turning his head away from the group.
Whilst Kate took out her laptop from her bag, Danny tapped into a suppressed part of his memory. He didn't know much about Hydra's presence outside of that facility before he left, he just knew it wasn't anything he should have been proud of. However, he had managed to get glimpses of information during his time there, everything straining from mere blueprints of armours and weapons to full-on constructed and battle-ready tech. He'd seen quite a lot, and thanks to the super soldier serum in his blood, he remembered all of it almost perfectly. He grabbed a pen and an A4 sheet of paper and wrote down all of the intel he had burned into his brain, and sketched out all the completed tech he had seen.
Whilst he was doing that, Kate was working on accessing information through her father's encrypted accounts, a process which had become normal for her since her move to New York
"If you're not working with your dad, then how do you have access to his stuff," Wanda asked, watching Kate work from behind the couch and biting off a piece of the red twizzler in her hand.
"Well, for someone who owns a security company, my dad's pretty easy to hack when you know enough about him," Kate said, typing in a long mixture of her and her late mother's names and birthdays, gaining access to her father's information.
She had already seen a lot of his work, but something new caught her eye, it was a blueprint for a mech suit, similar to the one the 'Rhino' had used previously. Except it had been upgraded, now emp-proofed and was sporting an appropriate horn on the forehead area. On top of that, it now possessed an alarming number of chitauri weapons, all of which were absent in the original due to it being a prototype. The blueprints also stated that the new armour was meant to be made from some Vibranium and chitauri metal alloy.
"We've got a problem," Kate announced, and everyone looked over at her.
"Ava, project the feed from Kate's laptop," Wanda ordered. A golden beam light scanned Kate's laptop, and the feed from Kate's laptop replaced Ava's holographic form.
"Why does it look like the Rhino got a sci-fi update," Peter questioned.
"Because he did, and he's emp proof, so the trick from last time isn't going to work," Kate explained
"Let's just hope they haven't built it already," Danny said, handing Peter the piece of paper he had been working on, which had both of its sides covered. "That's all of the hydra tech I can remember," He added.
Peter skimmed through, and it wasn't looking too good. Peter looked through the list one more time, looked up at the blue printings projected from the table, and took a deep breath.
"This is bad," Wanda exclaimed, breaking the ice that had formed in the room
"I'll go call Monica," Danny suggested.
"No, you remember what happened last time. Shield has too many protocols and regulations in place, and we don't know how much time we have. We've gotta move fast and quietly, so we can't afford to spend a day in a briefing room voting on what to do next. We've got to do this ourselves," Peter expressed.
"We should start with recon, there's no point planning on how to get the vibranium back if we don't know where it is," Shuri suggested
"I think I can narrow down the search," Kate said, grabbing her laptop.
"My dad wouldn't store stolen vibranium anywhere that's directly listed under his name but, there are a bunch of sub-companies he's connected to and each of them owns large storage areas," Kate explained and wrote down 15 addresses.
The 15 addresses were placed all in different parts of New York. Even with Danny's speed, it wasn't sure that they could cover all of this in the few remaining hours of the night.
"Okay, we can do this. Everyone pick one. Danny, Wanda and Shuri try and cover as much ground as you can," Peter said
"I guess It suit up time" Wanda said walking towards the armoury, followed by Peter, and Kate, who had taken her 'suit' out of her bag. Danny was about to follow his teammates but was stopped by Shuri.
"Wait Danny, I've got something for you before you go," Shuri said, and took out a black box from under the couch.
"What's this?" Danny asked as she handed him the box.
"Well, I promised I'd make you a new suit," Shuri replied, and Danny opened the box.
Indeed, there was a new suit for him. It was a similar design to his first one but with a new colour palette. The torse was based off of one of S.W.O.R.D's standard issue t-shirts. The top half of the arms were black and formed a black upside-down triangle on the torso with a blue lightning bolt logo on the tip instead of the sword logo. The bottom half of the arms and most of the rest of the torso were coloured a midnight blue colour. The same colour palette was applied to the Adidas forum highs and the pants, which had various black sections, details and straps. The cherry on top, however, was the silver lines outlining the entire suit and all the details that went perfectly with his new midnight blue eye mask with a silver line that traced through the centre around the shape
"I still have to make the gauntlets, but I figure you could field test it whilst we're out,"
"It's amazing Shuri," Danny said, before super speeding into the armoury.
Shuri activated her necklace, and just as the nanites of her armour had finished surrounding her body, the four other heroes walked out of the armoury, but Wanda had a few modifications to her suit. Usually, she preferred not to wear anything on her face, but since they were going out in public she had to. She now had a red M-shaped crown around her face with a black visor on the inside of it that covered her face. Kate was wearing a combat suit with a purple torso and black legs. It also had many black straps along the torso, a quiver on her back, a pink headband and a pair of purple sunglasses that did a surprisingly good job of hiding her identity. She also grabbed her bow and quiver from her bag and her rocket board.
"Ava, open the garage door," Wanda ordered, and the four stepped onto the vehicle loading bay.
"Here, take this," Shuri said, removing one of her kimono beads from her wrist, which shifted form into an earring, and giving it to Kate as she was mounting her board.
"It's a wireless transmitter, so you can keep in contact with us," Shuri explained, and Kate clipped it onto her right ear.
"Garage door opened," A.V.A. said, and the four blasted through the tunnel and out onto the streets in the dead of the night.
