Action: One year old Sawyer is sleeping in the backseat. She is unaware of Peyton's suffering.
Peyton (in pain, she moans): Ouch..

Scene 3: The Doctor's office
Situation: Ultrasound test
Doctor (examining the baby's position): The baby is slowly dying. You won't be able to carry the baby to full term.
Peyton (heartbroken): Why?!
Doctor: There have been a lot of complications with this pregnancy. Its just a matter of time before your body rejects the baby.
(Speechless, Peyton just cries. Her crying awakens a sleeping Sawyer. Lucas' heart breaks for both his wife and daughter)
Scene 4: Lucas and Peyton's house
Action: Crying, Peyton runs upstairs to her bedroom. Lucas joins her in the bedroom after he puts Sawyer to bed. Meanwhile, Peyton collapses
on the bed and just let the tears flow. Lucas looks through a scrapbook that she has made for Lucky.
Lucas (looking through the scrapbook): I love the scrapbook that you have made for Lucky
Peyton (sobbing): I give you permission to throw the scrapbook away. We are going to lose Lucky. I remember I miscarried our son Luke at
six weeks.
Lucas (taken aback): Luke
Peyton (tears the scrapbook apart piece by piece): This thing was a waste of time

Doctor (reading the lab test results): The baby died. I am sorry for your loss.
(Heartbroken, Lucas collapses into his chair. The doctor moves on to a new patient. A concerned Mia rushes to Lucas' aid.)

Peyton (rubbing her stomach): These labor pains or whatever have been ocurring off and on all day.
Lucas (still holding Sawyer): I apologize for giving you hell. Stress is not good for you or the baby.
Peyton: I forgive you, but you are not at fault here. Maybe this is my body's way to say take it easy.
Lucas (esorting Peyton upstairs to their bedroom): You should rest. I will take care of Sawyer.
Peyton (laying down on the bed): Thanks, Luke
Lucas (choked up): You are welcome

Situation: Lucas and Peyton (seven months pregnant) went their separate ways after having a heated argument about the baby (Lucky) at home. Peyton and Sawyer discover Lucas at Tric. Poetry night is taking place at Tric.
Peyton (grasping for breath as she holds Sawyer): Lucas..
Lucas (helping Peyton in a chair at the table): Please do sit down
Peyton: I tried calling you, but your cellphone was on silent. I looked for you all over town. I didn't find you at River Court. Tric was the final stop. I wanted to apologize for what happened earlier.

Peyton (feeling much better again): Lucas, it was a false alarm. I am not in labor.

Scenario: An Ultrasound test
Lucas (annoyed): My wife and I visited you three days ago
The Doctor: I wanted to see how the baby was doing again
Peyton(anxious): Do you have any more important news for us?
Doctor (examining the baby): All is well for now
Lucas: For now?!
Doctor: The baby has a slight chance for survival. There are a lot of health issues associated with Down Syndrome. Surgery or a medicated abortion, which one will be best for you?
Lucas (appalled): Are you really discussing abortion right now? Is abortion necessary or legal at this stage of the pregnancy?
Doctor: I am just keeping you informed
Peyton: I want to have a medicated abortion
Lucas (livid, he yells): PEYTON!
Peyton (shouting): Its my body. It's my choice.
(Frustrated, Lucas leaves the room. He slams the door right behind him. He never wanted to terminate the pregnancy. Peyton joins Lucas for a long silent ride back home. She notices a March of Dimes event day sale happening at Clothes Over Bros. Lucas drops her off here without making amends first).

Action: With a heavy heart, Peyton enters the store. One hug from Brooke turns her frown into a smile.
Brooke (looking Peyton up and down): You are surely blossoming
Peyton (excited): I am pregnant
Brooke: Thanks for coming to Clothes Over Bros. I have maternity clothes for you.
Peyton: I love March of Dimes. A friend of mine is expecting a baby that has Down Syndrome.

Scenario: Peyton is considering a medicated abortion

The doctor has given Lucky a death sentence. She is not expected to survive inside nor outside
the womb. Unlike me, Peyton has lost all hope. She is just only seven months pregnant. She has
considered having a medicated abortion. I wonder if abortion is illegal at this stage? Without
Peyton's permission, I consulted with my mother about our situation. Mom suggested I support
Peyton no matter what. Peyton decided not to go through the abortion in the end.

The Doctor (reading test results): The baby has Down Syndrome along with a possible heart defect. You will lose the baby. It's just a matter of time.

Peyton (sobbing): She will never be normal. What if the doctor is right?

Peyton (rubbing her stomach): I will wait and see

(Afterwards, Lucas and Peyton visit a local special needs school where anything is possible)

Peyton (desperate): I must prove the doctor wrong. I can carry the baby to full term.
Lucas: First, there was down syndrome. Now this, a possible premature birth.

Doctor (bearing medication for Peyton): This medication should stop the pain

Situation: Post The Dinner Visit- Karen pays a visit to Lucas and Peyton
(The door bell rings and Lucas answers the door)

(All of a sudden, Peyton is overcome with pain and she collapses in Lucas' arms. Unsure of what to do, Lucas takes Peyton to the hospital)
Scene 2: Heavy hearted, A very emotional Peyton and Lucas return home from the hospital with a very difficult decision to make. They spend their time arguing in the nursery
Peyton: You saw its ten little toes and fingers.
Lucas: Please stop it
Peyton: You saw its ten little toes and fingers, the baby does have a life.
Lucas: The doctor said you and the baby could die. I can't afford to losing you because I need a wife and Sawyer needs a mother.
Peyton: I have wanted this baby for so long that I have fallen in love with her. I am having this baby no matter what.
Lucas: The baby has down's syndrome and now this happens, a possible placenta abruption.
Peyton: I can't do this alone, I need you to support me

(Action: Larry ushers Lucas, Peyton and Sawyer into the house. He has a little chat with Lucas and Sawyer before talking to Peyton.)

Peyton: I am currently seven months pregnant. The baby is due on February fourteenth.
Larry: We were estranged until today. I am glad that you were able to find me. What is the purpose for your visit?

Peyton (feeling a sharp pain in her stomach): Ouch..
Lucas (concerned): Peyton, what is your problem?
Peyton (clutching her stomach): The baby kicked
Lucas (feeling the baby move within Peyton): Lucky is surely one restless soul, may God bless her heart.
Peyton (emotional): Luke, we surely did create a miracle. Our little princess will make her debut in about two months from now. Lucky has Downs Syndrome, but I will still love her anyway.
Lucas (passionately kissing Peyton): I love you

The Doctor: Your pregnancy is considered to be high risked
Peyton (disorientated, she leaves the room): I don't have time for this
Lucas (carrying Sawyer, he follows behind Peyton): Peyton
(Unaware of her present circumstances, Peyton remains in shutdown mode until she arrives home. She becomes vulnerable before Lucas.)
Scene 2: The Scott's house-Peyton and Lucas' bedroom
Peyton (looking through a scrapbook that she has made for the baby): The doctor knows nothing. Our baby will overcome every hurdle.
Lucas (putting Sawyer down to sleep in her crib): You are long overdue for a breakdown.
Peyton: Stress is not good for the baby or me. I must stay strong for us.
Lucas: What if hope makes you blind to the truth?
Peyton (choked up): Special needs, who knew we would befall this?
Lucas (doing research on his computer): I found a special needs school online that we can visit. The name of the school is called "Special Gifts".
Peyton: I want to go there asap

Situation: Karen babysits Sawyer while Lucas and Peyton visit "Special Gifts". Special Gifts is a school and home for kids with special needs.
Lucas: Are you sure you want to send Lucky away?
Peyton: Yes
Lucas: What factors influenced your decision?
Peyton (choked up): Lucky's down syndrome and deafness
Lucas: I understand
Peyton: I wouldn't be angry if you disagreed with me. What are your thoughts concerning the situation?

Place: Special Gifts-The parking lot
Lucas (helping Peyton out of the car): We're here, honey
Peyton (clinging onto Lucas): Please protect me

Action: A group of girls with down syndrome play jump rope on the front lawn. Peyton gets a glimpse into Lucky's future. Lucas and Peyton enter the building where a school administrator greets them. Her name is Rosemary.
Rosemary: I am Rosemary. You must be Mr. and Mrs. Scott
Lucas and Peyton: Yes
Rosemary: I am going to show you the nursery
Scene: The nursery
Action: Several nurses are taking care of newborn babies
Rosemary: This is the nursery. All of the newborn babies come here first when they arrive at special gifts. We pick up the babies right after birth.
Lucas: Cool
Peyton: I love the way the nurses care for the babies.
Rosemary: The nurses love the babies as if they were their own children. Its such a shame that these babies were abandoned by their parents.
Peyton: Hopefully, my baby will get the love that I can't get give it here
Rosemary: When is your baby due? What is his or her name?
Peyton: I am seven months pregnant. My daughter, Lucky is due on February 14. She has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome and deafness
Rosemary: Are you sure you want to send Lucky here, Special Gifts?
Peyton: Yes
Rosemary: I am going to give you more time to think. You might change your mind closer to the birth.
Lucas: Maybe
(Doubtful, Peyton and Lucas leave the facility still uncertain about Lucky's future. During the long drive home, Peyton receives a phone call from the doctor. The Doctor tells her a retest has shown that Lucky will not be born deaf. This news brings so much relief to Lucas and Peyton that they decide to keep Lucky.)

Scene: Doctor's office-Ultrasound test
Situation: Peyton (still seven months pregnant) and Lucas discover that Lucky has a hole in her heart
Doctor (placing a fetal heart monitor on Peyton's stomach): Let us listen to the heartbeat
Peyton (concerned): Lucky's heartbeat doesn't sound normal. Something is wrong with his heart.
Doctor: There is a hole in Lucky's heart. She could possibly die if the hole enlarges.
Peyton (crying): OH MY GOD
Lucas (emotional, he escorts Peyton out of the office): Come on, it is time for us to go
Scene: The Hospital-Church- Sanctuary
Peyton (clutching rosary beads, she prays): Please heal my baby, Lord
Lucas (taking Peyton's hand in his hand): I know you are feeling overwhelmed at the moment. The baby has Down Syndrome and now this happens, there is a hole in her heart. The big man upstairs won't allow our baby to die. Lucky will have a future.
Peyton (breathing heavily, she touches her heart): I am having a heart attack
Lucas (worried, he gathers Peyton up in his arms): You need a doctor asap
(Action: Peyton's condition is so bad that she has to stay at the hospital overnight. Lucas is kind enough to celebrate the New Year with her there.)
