The morning sun shined brightly though the window, warming the room and casting its rays of light on a nearby hammock, where a small pink frog slept peacefully.

Sprig slowly opened his eyes as the light hit them, and let out a big yawn. Welp, time to start the day. He thought optimistically as he jumped out of bed and got dressed, before heading downstairs.

Entering the kitchen he was immediately greeted by the tantalizing scent of spider egg omelettes. Hop Pop was cooking them while his younger sister Polly was already sitting at the table waiting. Sprig took his seat next to the young froglet as their grandfather served them both up steaming hot plates of the delicious food.

Sprig and Polly immediately began to dig in as Hop Pop sat down across from them with his own omelet. He began cutting into it with his knife and fork as he spoke. "You kids better eat up, we've got a big day of chores ahead of us."

The two kids groaned.

"Aw, really?" Polly complained.

"Yes, really." Hop Pop replied. "And the first thing I'm gonna need yer help with is cleanin' the stable. Bessie and Microangelo have gotten it pretty filthy and I don't want it gettin' any worse."

"But Hop Pop-" Sprig began, but the old frog held up his finger to cut him off, saying. "No "buts"! Now finish eatin' so we can get to work."

The two siblings sighed resignedly and resumed eating the rest of their omelettes. Once they had all finished the three of them started to head outside.

"Sprig, why don't you head down to the basement and grab some masks and gloves, I have a feelin' we're gonna need 'em." Hop Pop said.

"Sure thing, Hop Pop." Sprig replied. He walked over to the hatch that lead down into the basement and opened it, then hopped down the steps. Once he had reached the floor he started to make his way over to where the gloves and masks were kept, but stopped and found himself staring at a particular corner of the room.

In this corner was a bed. A plain, empty bed that at one time had a poster and pictures hanging on the wall next to it, as well as clothes and teen magazines and other miscellaneous items strung out on the white mattress and the floor surrounding it...but now, all that was gone...and so was she.

It had been a little over a year now since Anne had left, and that day had been without a doubt the hardest day of Sprig's life. First, he had thought his best friend in the whole world had died, and that had absolutely devastated him...but then by some miracle she came back to life...only for the two of them to say their final goodbyes the next morning before she and her friends left through the last remaining portal to Earth.

Needless to say, he'd be lying if he said he hadn't cried himself to sleep that night. Losing Anne hurt almost as much as losing his parents, but at least he knew she was safe and alive back in her own world. It had gotten easier as time went on, but that didn't change the fact that he missed her...a lot.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the phone Anne had given to him. Opening the photos app, he swiped through some of the pics and selfies that she had taken of the two of them, including during some of their wild adventures.

A smile crept along his face as the memories of their time together flooded his mind, but with it also arose a familiar dull pain in his chest. Having the phone did help, but it wasn't the same as her being there with him. He missed their wild adventures and crazy hyjinx, fun dance parties and goofing around, and even just hanging out together and talking.

He missed the fact that he could talk to her about anything, the fact that she always had his back no matter what. He missed her fearless yet kind hearted spirit. The way she always knew how to cheer him up when he was feeling down...Anne was the closest friend he'd ever had, and the truth was she had become more than just his best friend, she had become like a sister to him.

For a moment, he found himself staring at a picture of the two of them high-fiving each other, though Anne had to bend down on one knee in order for him to reach her hand.

Sprig sighed. "I sure miss you Anne, I wish you were still here..."

But, he knew that was a selfish wish, Anne was probably happy living her life on Earth. But still...life here just wasn't the same without her.

Suddenly remembering why he had come down there in the first place, he turned off the phone and put it back in his pocket, then grabbed up the masks and gloves they would need and headed back up the stairs.

Later that day and several chores later, Sprig was out in field pulling weeds. It was a boring and tedious job, especially doing it alone, but Hop Pop and Polly were busy handling their own chores and this was what Hop Pop had instructed him to do.

He briefly considered taking a break and going to see Ivy, maybe she would even come back with him and help out. But he also figured Hop Pop wouldn't be too happy if he came out to check on him and found that he wasn't there, but instead had ditched his chores to hang out with his girlfriend.

So with a sigh he grabbed another weed and yanked it out of the ground. If he were being honest, at that moment it didn't seem like this day could get any more boring.

That is, until something happened. A light suddenly flashed overhead! Sprig immediately looked up and saw what at first appeared to be flashes of light or electricity forming just a few feet above him. He immediately jumped to his feet and took a few steps back, staring wide eyed at the strange phenomenon.

Then out of it formed what looked to be some type of portal! As incredible and strange as it was, it didn't take him long to realize that he was being pulled towards this thing, and not knowing what it was or where it came from he wasn't so sure he wanted to be sucked into it.

He quickly grabbed hold of the nearest plant and held onto it as tightly as he could, but the portal's suction grew stronger and stronger, until the plant's stem started to break!

Sprig's eyes widened as he realized what was about to happen, and could do nothing but brace himself as the stem snapped and he was sucked into the unknown…
