Kanto Gets Loud

Chapter 44: The Battle Chateau

Before we get into this chapter, I would like to announce that the winner for the most recent poll is Treecko. Thank you all who voted on the poll. Anyhow, between this chapter and the next one, Lincoln will battle with his Pokemon as much as possible to level them up to between Levels 25-35. However, some Pokemon, such as Golbat, Riolu, Aizami and Raph, will not evolve for I have something else mind for them.

Later that evening, on Route 11,

"Finally, back near Vermillion City!" Lincoln exclaimed, as he and the others exited the Diglett Tunnel on Route 11.

"We need to get back. Mikan and the others will wonder where we've been," Rito said.

"And we should get back to the Pokemon Center. I need to heal up Pikachu and Mesmer," Lincoln replied, as they all walked together to Vermillion City. Soon, they made it to the Pokemon Center, "Surge should be back tomorrow, so I'll have my rematch with him then," he said.

"We'll let the others know," Lala replied, as they went off on their own. With that, Lincoln and friends entered the Pokemon Center.

"Well, I was wondering where you all had disappeared to," Nurse Joy said.

"We did some exploring on Route 11 and in the Diglett Tunnel, eventually finding our way back to Viridian City and Pewter City," Lincoln replied.

"But believe me, my love, there is no distance too great that I would travel just to be by your side!" Brock proclaimed.

"Oh, really?" Nurse Joy asked nervously.

"Alright, then I'll just have to make sure there's enough distance to give the lady her breathing room!" Misty said, pulling on Brock's ear, dragging him away. Lincoln and the others merely chuckled at that.

"Well, I hope you managed to get in plenty of training. I just got word that Lt. Surge is on his way back to Vermillion City. He'll be here tomorrow afternoon," Nurse Joy replied.

"Great! Which means I've still got some time to squeeze in some more training before then," Lincoln commented, before he remembered something, "Which reminds me, could you heal up my Pokemon, please?" he asked, pulling out his Pokeballs.

"OURS TOO?" Brock, Misty, Raigo and Leaf asked, pulling out their Pokeballs as well.

"Certainly. I'll have them all healed up in no time," Nurse Joy replied, as she took all of the Pokeballs, and placed them into the machine, while Pikachu was taken into the back, "Oh, by the way Lincoln, you have a couple of messages. And you have a message too, Miss Leaf."

"Messages? From who?" Lincoln asked.

"One's from Professor Oak, and the other seems to have come from the Galar Region," Nurse Joy said, handing Lincoln a slip of paper with two different phone numbers.

"Hmm, I wonder what Professor Oak could want?" Leaf wondered.

"Well, only one way to find out," Leaf replied, as she and Lincoln made their way over to the Video Phones.

Meanwhile, back at Professor Oak's Laboratory,

Professor Oak was busy packing his bags for the long trip back to Royal Woods to collect Lincoln's friends, as well as his trip to Vermillion City, "Oh, tomorrow is going to be a long day," he commented with a sigh. Just then, a knocking was heard from his door, "Come in!" he called out. The door opened, revealing one of his assistants.

"Professor, a call is coming in from Vermillion City," he said. Professor Oak perked up a bit.

"Ah, good. Lincoln and Leaf must've gotten my message. I'll right in," Professor Oak said, as he exited his office, and made his way to the video phone, where Lincoln and Leaf were on the line, "Ah, hello Mr. Loud, Miss. Rose. I trust things are alright in Vermillion City?" he asked.

"They are Professor. We just got back from exploring the Diglett Tunnel that led us all the way back to Viridian City, where we had a… less than pleasant time at Pokemon Tech," Lincoln replied. Professor Oak frowned upon hearing the name of that school.

"Ah yes, I've heard my fair share of stories about that particular school and their treatment of the students. I won't ask about what happened. The less said about that place, the better," he said.

"Thanks Professor. Anyhow, we're staying Vermillion City so we can go on the St. Anne," Leaf chimed in.

"Ah, that will most certainly be an entertaining trip," Professor Oak replied.

"I agree. By the way, is there something you needed to talk to us about?" Lincoln asked.

"Ah, yes, that's right! I recently acquired a set of new Pokedex models from Bill that feature a Pokemon Box Link. With this, you'll be able to exchange Pokemon in your parties with ones in storage without the need for a PC," Professor Oak explained. Both Lincoln and Leaf were very intrigued.

"That could make training different Pokemon a lot easier," Leaf commented.

"Especially with the last bit of training I want to do before my rematch with Surge. I want to see what the Battle Chateau is like," Lincoln replied.

"Ah, yes, the Battle Chateau. An excellent place for trainers to help raise the levels of all their Pokemon more quickly. That would do your Pokemon a lot of good," Professor Oak replied.

"Especially with Pokemon like Clefable and Cleffa, who haven't really gotten much action since I caught them," Lincoln replied, scratching the back of his head.

"So, what do we need to do, Professor?" Leaf asked.

"Well, it just so happens that I already had the AI in both Gary and Red's Pokedexes transferred over into the new models. If you send over yours, I can do the same. And tomorrow, I can see how well you two are adjusting to the newer models in person," Professor Oak replied.

"Wait, you're coming all the way to Vermillion City, Professor?" Leaf asked.

"Yes. You see, several of my colleagues from the other regions are coming to Vermillion City as well to sponsor a large group of promising new trainers from Lincoln's hometown," Professor Oak replied.

"Really? So Clyde, Ronnie Anne, Zach, and the others got permission from their parents?" Lincoln asked.

"Yes, they have. And they're going to be joined by quite a few others as well, including three teenagers to act as chaperones. And I think you might be surprised by one of them in particular, Lincoln," Professor Oak replied.

"Huh. Well, I can't wait to see them all again," Lincoln replied.

"That Royal Woods place you came from must be something else, Lincoln, if more trainers are coming all this way," Leaf commented.

"Well, Royal Woods isn't the most glamourous city in the U.S. I mean, sure, we have a lot of landmarks, including a theme park and whatnot, but all in all, it's just another average city," Lincoln replied.

"Well, if you say so. We'll send over our Pokedexes right away Professor," Leaf said, as she and Lincoln inserted their Pokedexes into the Video Phone. Professor Oak then held up the two devices in question.

"Thank you both. Now, this won't take more than a few minutes," Professor Oak said, as he took both Pokedexes over to a machine, where two other devices that looked like more futuristic models of the Pokedex were waiting and hooked them all up. He then punched in a few keys on the machine, which began to feed in the program into the new models. A few minutes passed, and the process was completed. Professor Oak retrieved the new Pokedexes, and brought them back over to the Video Phone, "And we're back. The program is fully installed, so now you both can exchange your Pokemon on the go."

"Thanks Professor. This means a lot to us," Lincoln said.

"You're most welcome, Mr. Loud. Well, that's really all I needed. If you two have anything to ask, don't hesitate to contact me," Professor Oak replied.

"We will Professor. And thanks again," Leaf said, as they hung up.

"Glad that's all out of the way. Now, to go continue packing my things" Professor Oak said, as he went back to his office.

Back in the Vermillion City Pokemon Center,

"Well, that will definitely help us out a lot!" Leaf exclaimed, happy at the thought of being able to exchange Pokemon without a PC.

"Without question. How do you feel in there, Dexter?" Lincoln asked.

"Quite comfortable, actually. This new model is a lot roomier than the old one," Dexter replied.

"The same goes for me," a female voice came from Leaf's Pokedex.

"That's good to hear, Dee," Leaf said, as she and Lincoln put away their new Pokedexes, "It's still a bit early. I'm going to go get some dinner then turn in," she commented.

"Yeah, I'm a little hungry myself. I can call the other number after dinner," Lincoln replied, as they both got up from the Video Phone, and made their way to the restaurant. There, they saw Brock, Misty, and Raigo all sitting at a booth.

"Hey guys, got what you needed done?" Raigo asked.

"The call with Professor Oak, yes. But I'll still need to call the Galar Region, but that can wait until after dinner," Lincoln replied, as he and Leaf took their seats.

"So, what did Professor Oak want to talk to the two of you about?" Brock asked.

"Well, first off, he went ahead and upgraded our Pokedexes. Now we can exchange Pokemon from our Storages without a PC," Leaf replied.

"No way! That'll be really handy to have, especially before a big battle!" Misty commented.

"Without question. And in addition to that, he also informed us that my friends from Royal Woods are coming to start their journeys as trainers," Lincoln added.

"Well, that certainly will be quite the reunion," Raigo commented.

"And one I'm looking forward to," Lincoln replied.

Meanwhile, in Royal Woods, in the middle of the day,

Leni had her bag packed and ready to go, as she was waiting on her mother to drive her to the airport. Rita then came into the room, along with the rest of the Louds, save for Lori and Lynn, "Well, I guess this is it, you guys," Leni commented.

"Yeah. We'll at least come with you to see you off," Luna replied.

"I just can't believe it. Now one of my daughters is leaving for Kanto!" Lynn Sr. sobbed uncontrollably.

"Hey, don't worry, Dad, I'll come back eventually, and I'm sure Lincoln will too," Leni replied.

"We'd love that, very much, Leni," Rita replied, as they all exited the house, "Wait, where's Lori?"

"Still holed up in her room. She's barely budged since yesterday," Luan replied.

"Well, she's going to have to come out eventually. Maybe once we get back, we can get to the bottom of whatever is troubling her," Rita replied, as she and the rest of the family piled into Vanzilla, and they took off for the airport.

A little later, at the Airport,

It was a long, quiet ride to the Detroit Airport, where Lincoln's friends, as well as Albert and Myrtle, were waiting around, "Hey there!" Leni called out. Needless to say, Bobby, Carlota, and the others were surprised to see Leni with her bags packed.

"Leni? What brings you here?" Bobby asked.

"I volunteered to help out with chaperoning Lincoln's friends," Leni replied.

"Can we trust her?" Tabby whispered to Liam, sounding unsure.

"Don't worry. Leni's one of the few sisters that Lincoln's already mended fences with," Liam replied.

"Wait, the four of you are joining them as well?" Luna asked, seeing Tabby, Haiku, Giggles, Polly Pain, and Margo among the group.

"Well, based on how Zach and the others described Lincoln's adventures, we wanted a little taste of the action as well," Giggles replied.

"Wow. Well, I'd love to be able to hear from you guys as well," Luna replied.

"So, where's the Professor guy?" Polly's Dad asked.

"Well, given the time zone differences, it's more than likely he's en route to our location as we speak," Rita replied.

"Speaking of which, Leni, now would be a good time for you to pass out the study guides," Lisa advised.

"Ok," Leni replied, as she pulled out each copy of the study guide, and began to distribute them.

"What are those?" Tabby's Mother asked.

"They are the study guides they'll need to go over while in transit to the Kanto Region. Remember what the Professor said; they'll need to pass a Trainer Qualification Exam before being issued their own starter Pokemon and Pokedex," Lisa explained, pulling out a jar of gummies, "Which reminds me… each of you should eat one of these," she said, distributing a gummy to each individual.

"Uh, not that were ungrateful for the candy, but, why the nice gesture?" Rusty asked.

"They're infused with a special formula I concocted that can help an individual retain and process information more easily. And before you say anything, yes, I did thoroughly test it. There shouldn't be any negative side effects," Lisa replied. The group still looked unsure, but if Lisa said there shouldn't be any side effects, then they went ahead and ate the gummies.

"Apple flavored?" Girl Jordan asked.

"Well of course I kept the fruit flavorings. I'm not a barbarian," Lisa replied.

"Hello there!" a familiar voice called out, as Professor Oak was seen approaching the group.

"Ah, Samuel. So nice to see you again," Albert said.

"Likewise, Albert," Professor Oak said, shaking hands with Albert. He then noticed the large group of kids, "Ah, so these are the potential new trainers that'll be traveling to Kanto?"

"Indeed. As sad as we are to see them go, we know that we can't shelter them here forever. They need to be able to get out and see the world for themselves, even if it's an obscure part of the world," Girl Jordan's Father replied.

"And besides, they're all plenty responsible, and I'm sure they'll have a great time adventuring just like their friend," Rusty's Dad said.

"I don't doubt it. After all, Lincoln did put in a good word for them when I asked about them," Professor Oak replied.

"And I'm sure that each and every one of them can back up what he told about them," Harold replied.

"Indeed. Well, I'll let you all say your goodbyes, then we can head out," Professor Oak said, as he went to stand off to the side, chatting with Albert, Myrtle, Rita, and Lynn Sr.

"Well kids, this is it. We won't be seeing much of you for a while. But please, be sure to call often, and be careful," Maria said to her son and daughter. All the other parents were exchanging their goodbyes with their children as well.

"We will, Mom. And we'll make you and the rest of the family proud," Ronnie Anne replied.

"I know you will. But I have one more thing to say that I'm sure the rest of the parents here can agree with me on," Maria said, catching the attention of everyone there, "Even though you may be emancipated after getting your Trainer Licenses or whatever it's called, I just want you to know… that an entire ocean will NOT stop me from raining down la chancla on both of you if you do alcohol, drugs, or anything of the sort!" she said in an all too serious tone. Both of her kids flinched upon hearing the threat, as did the others.

"That goes for you too, Clyde. Even if you are legally recognized as an adult over in Japan, that doesn't mean you should go about doing any of the typical stuff adults do," Howard said to Clyde.

"I understand, Dad," Clyde replied. The other parents and kids exchanged similar sentiments.

"Well Leni, I guess this is goodbye until you and Lincoln do eventually come home," Rita said sadly, as she embraced her second born daughter.

"Don't worry. I'm sure once the Pokemon League is done in Kanto, Lincoln will come back home, and I'll be there with him every step of the way," Leni replied.

"That's all we ask of you, precious," Myrtle replied.

"And do be careful. Pokemon Training is a fulfilling profession, but it can potentially be dangerous, so try to keep your wits about you," Albert said, as both he and Myrtle embraced Leni.

"And please call us when you arrive safe and sound," Rita requested.

"I will, Mom," Leni replied, as they broke off the embrace. Now, it was her sister's turn to say their goodbyes.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye, Leni," Luna commented.

"We're really gonna miss you," Luan added.

"And I'll miss all of you as well," Leni replied.

"It's not fair that you and Lincoln get to go and catch all kinds of cool monsters. I want in on that too," Lana complained, wanting to explore Kanto as well.

"I know you want to explore a Pokemon Region, Lana, but you're just too young to do that," Luna replied, trying to console the older twin.

"Well, if there's any consolation, Lincoln could potentially send over some more Pokemon once he's won his rematch at the Vermillion Gym," Lisa added. This seemed to cheer up Lana a little bit.

"Well, I think there might be a solution for that," Professor Oak chimed in, catch the sister's attention, "There's a special program called the 'Junior Trainers Program' where children younger than the required age to be a trainer CAN be a trainer."

"There is?" Lana asked, sounding intrigued. Lucy, Lisa, and even Lola looked equally interested.

"Indeed. Think of it like how a squire would serve a knight. A younger trainer would be trained under an official one to help learn the ways of Pokemon Training, and would allow you to take part in some events that only official trainers can take part in, such as battles. Of course, a portion of your winnings will go to the trainer you're training under, but it's the experience from learning about training that's most important," Professor Oak explained.

"But we'll discuss that another time, Lana. For now, it'll just be Leni who'll be a trainer like Lincoln," Rita said. Lana didn't like hearing that she couldn't take part in the program, but understood where her mother was coming from. With that, all the parents shared one last embrace with their kids, as they left with the Professor, "I must say, you and Howard are taking this very well, Harold."

"We aren't exactly thrilled about sending Clyde away, but we know that this is what he wants to do, so we'll just grin and bear it," Harold replied, trying to comfort a whimpering Howard.

"Well, this is a good opportunity for the kids to do some growing up," Lynn Sr. commented, only to get anger fueled glares from all of the parents, causing him to "EEP!" in fear.

"Which reminds me… Rita, Lynn, I have something I want to talk to both of you two about in private," Maria said.

"What about?" Rita asked.

"We can talk more at your house," Maria replied, as she got in her car, along with the rest of her family. Rita had a feeling what the Santiago Matriarch wanted to talk about.

Meanwhile, on the Airport Runway,

"Well, here we are," Professor Oak said, as he and the kids were all standing before a jet plane with Pokeball coloring.

"Whoa, talk about flying in style," Rusty commented.

"Indeed. And we'll be in the Kanto Region in only a few short hours," Professor Oak replied, as they began to board. Inside the jet was just what you'd except from a private jet. Two rows of seats, a snack bar, and interior lighting, "All of you should take your seats now. We'll be taking off momentarily," he advised, which the kids did just as he said. Professor Oak then made his way to the cockpit, "Our passengers are ready," he told the pilot.

"Righto," the pilot replied, as he turned on the engines, "This is your pilot speaking. We are taking flight for Vermillion City in the Kanto region in just a moment. Please fasten your seat belts, and keep your trays up. Once we're reached flight altitude, you'll be free to move about the cabin as you see fit," the pilot said, as he moved the jet plane to the runway in preparation for take off.

"Well guys, this is it," Ronnie Anne commented.

"I've got so many butterflies in my stomach, it ain't even funny," Polly commented.

"I know what you mean. Being able to experience what Lincoln's been up to for the past month or so is kind of nerve wracking," Zach replied.

"In the meantime, we should start studying. More than likely, we'll be given the test as soon as we land," Girl Jordan suggested, pulling out her study guide. The others did as well, as the jet was picking up speed, as it began to take off.

Meanwhile, back at the Loud House, Lynn and Lucy's Room,

While her family was leaving to take Leni to the Detroit Airport, Lynn was laying on her bed, absolutely bored out of her mind, "Ugh, this is so NOT fair! Since that witch of an ex-mother of mine took away all my sports stuff, and with all the sports channels being blocked, there's nothing to do! Why did they even give me those?" she asked to no one in particular, looking at a stack of books on her nightstand, "I have to prove that Stinkcoln is bad luck and that I was right! But how?"

"The better question is 'why are you so fixated on this grudge against Lincoln?'" Lynn sat up in her bed, and saw a doppelgänger of herself, standing in the corner of the room, smirking mockingly at her.

"Oh crap, are you a doppelganger?! That's all I need right now!" Lynn groaned, knowing the story of doppelgangers and what they bring.

"No, stupid. I'm what you could call the part of you that you're idiotically choosing to deny. The part of you that knows that your brother had nothing to do with your loss against the Lions that day," the other Lynn said.

"Yeah right, I know for a fact that he and his bad luck was solely responsible for my loss that day, and for getting myself and my team banned from softball for the next few years," Lynn stated.

"And how exactly can you prove that, hmm? Do you have any actual, physical evidence that proves your claim? Or are you just like what everyone says you are? A spoiled, self-centered sore looser that's afraid to take responsibility for a loss? Because looking into that pitiful mind of yours, that game against the Lions wasn't the first time you lost," the other Lynn stated. Lynn really didn't like this other Lynn's tone.

"What are you talking about? I'm the best athlete in Royal Woods! I don't have a single loss to my name before that game."

"What about that volleyball match back in the third grade? Your team lost 3 to 2, and you weren't complaining about bad luck then, so what makes softball so much more important that volleyball?" the other Lynn questioned. Lynn froze up in disbelief.

"Who or what are you? Hardly anyone knows about the only other time I lost legitimately," Lynn questioned.

"As I said, I'm the part of you that you're foolishly choosing to deny; the part of you that knows that bad luck had nothing to do with your loss that day. And my job here is to beat a little something called 'common sense' into that overly dense skull of yours," the other Lynn replied.

"Ok, first of all, bad luck had EVERYTHING to do with my loss against the Lions. Secondly, I'll have you know that I do have common sense."

"Oh sure, because threatening to bash in your brother's skull if he didn't come to the very game you forced him to go to in the first place requires a lot of common sense," the other Lynn sarcastically remarked.

"That's because Stinkcoln HAS to come to all of OUR events! Or at least he had to before he was bad luck," Lynn countered.

"And what about some of the events he had lined up?"

"Oh, those? We don't have to go to any of his events since we outnumber him," Lynn shrugged.

"And what makes you and your sisters so special to snub his events at your leisure, but you have to force him to go to your events?"

"Because he's the only boy in the house. Dad doesn't count as a boy, since he is an actual man, something Stinkcoln will never be. Not with his dumb obsession with comics or video games or those stupid models of his," Lynn replied. The other Lynn could only shake her head in disappointment, that is, if she had any more disappointment to feel.

"You really don't get what family is about, do you? Have you at least thought about putting yourself in Lincoln's shoes?"

"Hell no! Those things are tainted with his bad luck! And I don't need any more of that in my life!" Lynn snapped. The other Lynn groaned loudly in exasperation.

"That was a metaphor, you idiot! I was saying try to think about how Lincoln felt! How would you feel if he and the others locked you out and barred you from activities you would've liked to go if you were the only brother or sister in the house?"

"Well, if Stinkcoln did do that, I would've ripped him a new one, regardless if he was a girl like the rest of us and if I was a boy. Though, that's not too hard to believe. The point is, he has even less rights and authority in this house than Lily, and she's a baby!"

"And who are you to decide that? After all, you and the rest of your sisters aren't this house's owners. That privilege belongs to your parents. And I must commend your mother for doing what she and that wimp of a husband of hers should've done a long time ago."

"And what, pray tell, could that witch possibly be doing?"

"Enforcing discipline against you and the rest. Which has nothing to do with the string of bad luck you and the others have been experiencing. And I have to agree with that brainy sister of yours. It only started turning really sour AFTER you thought gloating about selling your brother's furniture in his face was a good idea. That was low, and believe me, I've seen low."

"The whole point of sending him to Kanto was to punish him for ruining everything in the house with his bad luck! I was well within my rights to do that! So, in my book, I actually did the right thing!"

"So, what you're saying is that you really, truly hate Lincoln that much that you have to hurt his feelings like that?" the other Lynn asked in disgust.

"He's a boy! He's not supposed to have feelings!"

"That is NOT up to you or anyone else to decide. After all, you're just one person! The whole world doesn't revolve around you!"

"And why shouldn't it? The way I see it, the world has nothing better to do than to revolve around me, the greatest athlete in the history of the world, and maybe even the universe!" Lynn boasted.

"Well, you'd better watch what you say. After all, 'be careful what you wish for'," the other Lynn said, before disappearing.

"Pfft, whatever. Who does that… thing think she is?" Lynn grumbled, as she laid back down in bed. Unbeknownst to her, a small part of her mind was starting to take what the other Lynn had said to heart.

Meanwhile, in the Vermillion City Pokemon Center, morning,

Lincoln had just finished getting ready for the busy day he had ahead for him, while thinking back to the call he made to the Galar Region.

Flashback, the night before, after dinner,

"Man, that was some meal," Raigo commented, as he and the others left the restaurant.

"Well, we should go and turn in. You coming, Lincoln?" Misty asked.

"You guys go on ahead. I have one more call to make," Lincoln replied, making his way over to the video phones. He took out the slip of paper with the Galar Region phone number on it, "Alright, now lets see who was calling me," he commented, punching in the phone number. The phone rang for a few seconds before picking up, revealing none other than… "Gramps!"

"Hey there, Lincoln! How ya doing?" Leonard asked, happy to see his grandson.

"I've been great, Gramps! What about you?" Lincoln asked.

"Pretty good. You can imagine my surprise when I received a Paras from you in a Wonder Trade," Leonard replied.

"Yeah. The Bounsweet I got from you is doing great. She even managed to evolve into a Steenee," Lincoln replied.

"*Whistles* Now that's something to be proud of. That being said, what are you doing in the Kanto region all by yourself?" Leonard asked. Lincoln tensed up a bit.

"Well, let's just say… Lynn and I kind of had a fight, which was HER fault, and the family decided on sending me here to give her some space away from me," Lincoln replied. Leonard could only sigh in annoyance.

"Of course. That girl's going to be in for a rude awakening one of these days," Leonard replied.

"From what Mom told me, she and some of the others have been experiencing severe backlash for their actions," Lincoln replied.

"Like I always say, karma will always find a way to get you," Leonard replied, before he decided to move onto a more uplifting topic, "So, what all have you been up to in Kanto?"

"A lot, actually. I've managed to earn two Gym Badges, and I'm getting ready for a rematch at the third gym," Lincoln replied, showing his badge case.

"Nice work, kiddo! You're bound to have all eight badges before too long," Leonard commented.

"And I'm hoping to make it all the way to the Pokemon League," Lincoln replied.

"So, apart from that Paras I got from you and Steenee, what other kinds of Pokemon have you managed to catch?" Leonard asked.

"Well, my first one was a Pikachu, who's my trusted partner in battling. After I left Pallet Town, I managed to catch a Fearow, Poliwag, a Shiny Weedle, a Pidgeotto, another Weedle and a Caterpie for a Wonder Trade, which gave me a Riolu and a Shiny Ralts, a Sandshrew, a Zubat, the entire Celfairy line, including a Shiny Clefable, with one of the Cleffa and Clefairy I caught being used to Wonder Trade for a Goomy and Trapinch, along with a Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, an Alolan and Galarian Meowth, a regular Meowth, and some Pokemon I plan on using for my next bout of Wonder Trading, including a Spearow and a Drowzee," Lincoln explained.

"Man, having so many shiny Pokemon in such a short amount of time, AND two Regional Variants on top of that? You must feel pretty lucky to have that kind of accomplishment under your belt," Leonard commented.

"I do. Which reminds me. The day before I set out, I had an encounter with the Legendary Pokemon, Ho-Oh, who gave me this Rainbow Wing," Lincoln added, showing his Rainbow Wing.

"I don't believe it! That's not just something you can just get anywhere!" Leonard exclaimed, sounding very impressed.

"And there's more to it, according to Professor Oak. He theorizes that this Rainbow Wing gives me the ability to understand what Pokemon are saying," Lincoln replied.

"Hmm, I have heard about some instances where humans are, in fact, able to understand Pokemon speech. But since they're so few in numbers, I thought it seemed unlikely," Leonard replied.

"True, but it has helped me to get closer to the Pokemon I've been catching. Well, apart from my Squirtle and Kantonian Meowth, but I'm hoping that they'll come around eventually," Lincoln replied.

"These kinds of things take time. You just need to show your Squirtle and Meowth that you care about them, and I'm sure you'll earn their respect," Leonard replied.

"I hope so. But enough about me, what have you been up to in Galar?" Lincoln asked.

"Well, I've been adventuring all over the region, taking in all the sights and sounds that this region has to offer. I even managed to find my way to two remote areas of the region called 'The Isle of Armor' and the 'Crown Tundra.' And believe me, there is a lot of history scattered throughout the region, including these two areas," Leonard replied.

"Sounds awesome! Maybe I should make the Galar Region one of the many regions I head to after Kanto," Lincoln mused.

"You should. There's a lot to gain from travelling to the many different regions. After all, I've been to almost all of them myself," Leonard replied.

"That's great to hear," Lincoln replied.

"Indeed it is. Well, it's must be late over where you are, so I'll go ahead and let you off," Leonard said.

"Ok, Gramps. And one thing before we do hang up; The ones in my family that I have managed to forgive are Mom, Leni, Luna, Lucy, and Lisa. Lily too for obvious reasons," Lincoln said.

"Well, even so, I'm still going to give them an earful," Leonard replied.

"Very well. Here's hoping we'll talk again soon," Lincoln replied.

"Likewise. Goodbye," Leonard replied, as he hung up. Lincoln then got up, and made his way to the room he was sharing with the others.

End of flashback,

"I'm glad to see that Gramps is doing well for himself," Lincoln said to no one in particular.

"Y'know, I was wondering what was taking you so long last night," Pikachu commented.

"Yeah, sorry about that. I was talking to my Gramps. The one who I got Queeny from," Lincoln replied.

"Really? So, what's he up to?" Pikachu asked.

"He's exploring the Galar Region. And based on how he made it sound, I kind of want to check it out for myself someday," Lincoln replied.

"Sounds like it could be one hell of an adventure," Pikachu remarked.

"Indeed. But for now, we should focus on our current adventure; Making it into the Kanto League," Lincoln replied.

"And for that, we need to defeat Lt. Surge and his Raichu," Pikachu added.

"Yep. Which is why we're going to be spending most of the day at the Battle Chateau training up not only you but all of my other Pokemon as well. I want to raise each of your levels as much as possible before we check out the St. Anne," Lincoln replied.

"Sounds like a plan. But what about Selena and Raphael? I doubt either of those two will be willing to work with the rest of us," Pikachu asked.

"Hmm, you have a point. Raphael still seems to have quite a bit of contempt from being caught, and Selena is a bit spoiled to do things on her own accord. I'll figure something out with Selena later, but I want to try something with Raph before heading to the Battle Chateau," Lincoln replied.

"This ought to be interesting," Pikachu mused.

"Perhaps, but for now, we should go and get some breakfast, because, I don't know about you, but I'm hungry," Lincoln replied, as the two of them left the room. They made their way into the lobby, where the others were hanging out.

"Well, there he is! You ready for your rematch?" Misty asked.

"I believe so, but I'm going to the Battle Chateau to do some more training," Lincoln replied.

"Well, you can be sure we'll all be there to see your battle," Leaf replied.

"Thanks you guys. But before anything else, breakfast time," Lincoln commented.

"We were just waiting on you before we went to get ourselves some food," Brock remarked, as they made their way to the restaurant. After ordering food, the five trainers got onto the main topic of discussion; Lincoln's rematch.

"Alright, so do you know your gameplan?" Raigo asked.

"Yes. I need to utilize Pikachu's smaller body to outmaneuver Surge's Raichu. We'll be making use of moves like Double Team, Dig, and Protect. I'll also give Pikachu a Sitrus Berry before the match, so if things get a little rough, Pikachu can heal itself during the match," Lincoln explained.

"That's fine and all, but one thing you need to know about the move, Protect, and that it has an increased chance of failing the more times you use it, so try to use it sparingly," Brock replied.

"And I plan on doing so. And we can also bank on Pikachu's Static Ability to paralyze Raichu," Lincoln replied.

"Maybe so, but keep in mind, Raichu also has the Static Ability, so try not to attack directly too much," Leaf responded.

"I know. But since it won't be until later this afternoon, I plan on training up all of my Pokemon at the Battle Chateau," Lincoln replied, just as their food arrived.

"Well, looks like you've got it all figured out," Misty commented.

"Yep. That's why back home, I was always called the 'man with the plan'," Lincoln replied, as they began eating their breakfast, "Oh yeah, and last night, when I was talking to Professor Oak with Leaf, he told me that my friends from Royal Woods were coming here to Vermillion City."

"Really, now? Well, that's something to look forward to," Misty commented.

"It is," Lincoln replied. After they finished their breakfast, they all exited the Pokemon Center, "Alright, when should we meet back up at?"

"How about noon?" Brock suggested.

"That should be more than enough time to get in some training," Lincoln replied.

"Alright, so we'll all meet back here at noon," Raigo commented, as they all dispersed to go do their own thing.

"The Battle Chateau was back on Route 6, so we'll have to do some backtracking. But first," Lincoln commented, as he and Pikachu made their way towards the beach. Once there, he used the Pokemon Box Link, which displayed a holographic slot, "Ok, maybe I just have to put the Pokeball in here," Lincoln mused, as swapped out Buzzerker's Pokeball for Raphael's Pokeballs, "Wow, that was easy! No more PC for this guy," Lincoln laughed, as he took the Pokeball, and tossed into the air, sending out Raphael, who glared bitterly at his trainer.

"Oh great. What do you want?" Raphael asked.

"To put it bluntly, I want you to be part of my team, as in, actually working together with the others," Lincoln replied. Raphael only laughed in a mocking manner.

"Me? Work WITH you? Yeah right! Why would I want to do that?"

"Well, for one thing, you can grow a lot stronger if you work with the rest of us," Lincoln replied.

"I call bull on that! I'm already plenty strong on my own! I don't need any deadweight holding me back!" Pikachu had had enough of Raphael's attitude.

"Listen here, you little…" Pikachu was stopped by Lincoln.

"Hold on Pikachu, I think I have an idea. Raphael, what will it take for you to cooperate with us?" he asked.

"A rematch against that Bulbasaur! If I win, you let me go! If he wins, then I'll play nice and start working with you guys. In addition, you cannot give him any commands!" Raphael declared. Lincoln was surprised to hear such a request.

"And you're giving me your word that you'll start helping us out?"

"Of course. Not that that little weed of yours has a chance against me. I was ill prepared last time, but now, I'm ready!" Raphael replied.

"And you realize that if I go through with this, there's no turning back for either of us, right?" Lincoln asked.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Just bring out that weed so I can get back my freedom!"

"As you wish. But before I do, I recently acquired a TM for a move that I was planning to teach you. Do you want to learn it?" Lincoln offered.

"Hell no! I'm strong enough without YOUR help! I don't need to learn any new moves! Now, get that overgrown weed out here so I can get my freedom again!" Raphael demanded. Lincoln said nothing, as he booted up the Box Link again, and swapped Mesmer out for Aizami, who he then released.

"Ah, I was wondering when you'd bring me back to the field," Aizami commented.

"I was a little busy. But I have a favor to ask of you," Lincoln replied. Aizami looked up at his trainer.

"And that is?"

"Raphael wants a rematch with you for his freedom. But if you win, he'll start cooperating with us," Lincoln replied.

"Well, to be honest, I honestly see no problem with him getting the boot, but if you want him to cooperate, then I'll do my best," Aizami replied, as he took his position opposite of Raphael.

"Oh man, this is going to be sweet!" Raphael grinned vindictively, as he started out with Aqua Jet.

"Same tricks as last time, same outcome," Aizami murmured, as he dodged Aqua Jet, before launching Vine Whip, smacking down Raphael.

"Lucky shot, bastard! Let's see how you handle this!" Raphael said, firing off a Bubble attack, which seemed to do some damage, but not a whole lot.

"What is this, a bubble bath? Let me show you a real attack," Aizami said, as he fired of Razor Leaf.

"Don't think so!" Raphael said, as he used Withdraw to hide in his shell to raise his defenses. It still did nothing to stop the damage, however, "Now, eat this!" Raphael then began using Rapid Spin, slamming into Aizami.

"Ok, that attack did hurt a bit more. But I have a solution to it," Aizami said, as he fired off Poison Powder, which was able to end up poisoning Raphael.

"Ugh, not this again!" Raphael grumbled, as he felt the poison draining his strength.

"And there's more!" Aizami said, as he fired a seed from the bulb on his back. When it landed on Raphael, vines quickly sprouted and wrapped all around Raphael, who then felt more of his strength fading.

"What move was that?" Lincoln wondered.

"Information: Leech Seed: A Grass Type move that gradually drains the energy of the opposing Pokemon that's hit by it," Dexter explained.

"Whoa, when did you learn that move?" Lincoln asked, sounding impressed.

"I picked it up while training with the others, as well as another move that I think I inherited from one of my parents," Aizami replied.

"An Egg Move, perhaps?" Lincoln asked.

"More than likely. I'm going to use it right here and now!" Aizami said, as he summoned a flurry of leaves, and fired them at Raphael, who was unable to tank the attack and fell down to defeat.

"Whoa, what move was that? It didn't look like Razor Leaf!" Lincoln asked.

"Information: Leaf Storm: A powerful Grass Type Move that uses a storm of leaves to attack the opponent. The move harshly lowers the user's Special Attack power, however," Dexter explained.

"Whoa, that's so awesome! Though we should save that move for a dire situation," Lincoln commented.

"Oh most definitely," Aizami said, as a bright light erupted from him.

"Aizami! You're evolving!" Lincoln exclaimed, as Aizami grew a little larger, and the bulb on his back opened up into a flower, "Awesome! What did you evolve into?"

"Ivysaur, the Seed Pokemon, a Grass and Poison Type, and the evolved form of Bulbasaur. Exposure to sunlight increases its strength. Sunlight also makes the bud on it's back grow larger," Dexter explained.

"Nice! How do you feel?" Lincoln asked.

"A bit stronger, to say the least. And since I won, I guess that means he's staying on the team?" Aizami asked.

"A deal's a deal. But we'll have to patch him up first. Fortunately, I found these the other day," Lincoln said, pulling out what appeared to be small, beige colored crystals.

"What are those?" Pikachu asked.

"Revives. From what Brock and the others told me, they restore half of a Pokemon's maximum strength if they've fainted," Lincoln replied, as he went over, and placed one of the Revives on Raphael's forehead. In an instant, it melded into the Tiny Turtle's forehead, and most of the wounds on his body were healed. He began coming to.

"Oh man, what happened?" Raphael questioned, rubbing his head.

"You want the long version or the short version? Basically, Aizami here kicked your ass, and now you're a full-fledged member of the team," Pikachu said bluntly. Raphael then saw the newly evolved Aizami, and was shocked to say the least.

"No… no, this can't be happening!" Raphael exclaimed.

"But it is. And remember, you gave me your word that you'd start cooperating if you lost, right?" Lincoln asked. Raphael snorted grumpily.

"Oh, alright! I'll play nice and be part of your team!" he said, crossing his arms, before his curiosity peaked, "I'm probably going to kick myself for this later, but what was that move you wanted to teach me?"

"It's a move called 'Frustration.' From what I was told, it's a move that gets stronger the less a Pokemon likes its trainer. And since you pretty much hate my guts, I figured I could teach it to you so you'd have at least a fair shot of leaving," Lincoln explained. Raphael's jaw dropped upon hearing the name of the move. Pikachu and Aizami burst out laughing.

"Oh man, this is too rich! You literally had a golden ticket to leave the team just handed to you, and you passed it up! Pidgeotto is going to laugh so hard when she hears this!" Pikachu cackled.

"Shut the hell up!" Raphael ordered, clearly embarrassed by his own folly.

"Well, now that that's settled, I want to do some training with the three of you and the others over at the Battle Chateau. But before we do go, I'll take you two to get healed up," Lincoln said, recalling his two Pokemon.

"Well, that's one problem Pokemon taken care of," Pikachu commented.

"Yes, though I doubt highly that Selena will be as easy to convince," Lincoln replied, as he made his way back to the Pokemon Center.

20 Minutes later, on Route 6,

After healing up Aizami and Raphael at the Pokemon Center, Lincoln found himself standing before what appeared to be a Japanese style castle, "Whoa, so this is the Battle Chateau," he mused.

"No matter what, I'm ready to get myself into shape for my rematch with Raichu," Pikachu stated.

"As am I to earn that Thunder Badge," Lincoln replied, as he entered the building. Inside, he was greeted by a man and woman, dressed in traditional kimonos.

"Hello. Are you here to join the Battle Chateau nobility?" the man asked.

"Yes sir, I am. My name is Lincoln Loud," Lincoln greeted.

"Good show, young man. I am Duke Archibald, and this is Duchess Winnifred," the man said, introducing himself and the woman.

"Please to meet you, young master Lincoln," Winnifred said.

"Likewise. So, is there like any sort of paperwork I need to sign or what?" Lincoln asked.

"Just a few forms," Archibald replied, handing Lincoln a clipboard with some forms attached to it, "Just fill out all the required spots, and we'll set you up with the noble title of Baron."

"Ok, that I can do," Lincoln replied, as he filled out the forms, and returned them to Archibald.

"Alright then. While I go and process this paperwork, Winnifred here can explain how the Noble Ranking works," Archibald said, as he took the forms and went into a nearby office.

"Right. Well then, Mister Loud, the way the Noble Ranking system works is simple. Each noble member of the Battle Chateau is identified by different colors of robes. To advance from one Noble Title to another, you must win a certain number of battles. For instance, as a Baron, you will need to win at least 10 battles to advance to Viscount. After you ascend to Viscount, you will need 20 wins to advance to Earl, then 30 wins to become a Marquis, followed by the rank of Duke, which requires you to have won at least 40 battles after becoming a Marquis. Then, to go from Duke to Grand Duke, you must win 50 battles. What's more, the number of Pokemon you're allowed to use during each battle will increase by one with certain ranks. For example, upon reaching the Earl rank, you'll be allowed to use two Pokemon, and upon reaching Duke, you can use three," Winnifred explained.

"Sounds like a long road ahead of me for this," Lincoln mused.

"As it is for all members of the Battle Chateau. But with enough patience and diligence, you can find yourself ascending ranks much at a quick rate," Winnifred explained, as Archibald came back.

"Alright then, Mr. Loud, you are now a proud member of the Battle Chateau Nobility, with the starting rank of Baron," he explained, handing Lincoln a small charm, similar to the one he got from the Battle Club in Pewter City, "That key has all of your information stored on it, as well as your current ranking, and how many wins you have at your current rank. You can use it at any Battle Chateau around the world."

"Thank you, Duke Archibald," Lincoln replied.

"You're most welcome. Now then, shall we see about getting you into your first set of battles?" Archibald asked.

"Yes sir! I'd like to train up all of my Pokemon, mainly my Pikachu here, for a rematch at the Vermillion Gym," Lincoln replied.

"Ah, now that's something to work for," Archibald replied, as he and Winnifred led Lincoln through the halls, eventually arriving at what appeared to be a large, outdoor battlefield, surrounding by sever pagodas, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce the arrival of the new Baron Lincoln Loud of Royal Woods. Please help in training him in our ways," he announced, catching the attention of everyone there. Lincoln then stepped forward.

"I would like to issue a challenge to any Barons that may be present," Lincoln said in a respectful manner. Just then, a young woman stepped forth.

"I'll be more than happy to take your challenge. I am Baroness Isabelle from Verdanturf Town in the Hoenn Region," the woman introduced herself, as she and Lincoln took their spots on the battlefield.

"The battle between Baron Lincoln and Baroness Isabelle shall now begin. The rule is only one Pokemon each. The battle shall be over when either side's Pokemon can no longer battle. If the trainers are in agreement with these rules, then please, send out your Pokemon," a referee declared.

"My choice shall be Nuzleaf!" Isabelle said, as she released her Pokemon. From her Pokeball emerged a small, brown and grey Pokemon with a pointy nose and a single leaf stalk on it's head.

"What's a Nuzleaf?" Lincoln wondered, pulling out his Pokedex.

"Nuzleaf, the Wily Pokemon, a Grass and Dark Type, and the evolved form of Seedot. Nuzleaf live deep in forests. The sound of their grass whistles fill listeners with dread," Dexter explained.

"Hmm, a Dark Type. Don't think I've battled any of those since I caught my Alolan Meowth. But no matter. You ready, Pikachu?" Lincoln asked.

"Whenever you are!" Pikachu replied, dashing out onto the battlefield.

"Nuzleaf VS Pikachu! Battle begin!" the referee declared.

"Nuzleaf, lets start off with Razor Leaf!" Isabelle ordered. Nuzleaf flicked the leaf on it's head, which summoned several leaves and hurled them at Pikachu.

"Alright, time to practice your evasiveness! Use Double Team!" Lincoln instructed.

"On it!" Pikachu replied, as he began to split into several afterimages of himself, thus dodging the Razor Leaf.

"Quite speedy. Nuzleaf, use Low Sweep!" Isabelle ordered. Nuzleaf then began to deliver low kicks to all of the after images of Pikachu, never once hitting the genuine article.

"Alright Pikachu, give them a taste of Iron Tail!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu came at Nuzleaf from behind, and smacking the Wily Pokemon away with Iron Tail.

"Keep calm, Nuzleaf. Use Razor Wind!" Isabelle ordered. Nuzleaf then began to swirl up a whirlwind.

"What's Razor Wind?" Lincoln wondered.

"Information: Razor Wind: A two-turn, Special Normal Type Attack, in which the user attacks by whipping around wind like a blade. Critical Hits land more easily," Dexter explained.

"Alright Pikachu, use Dig to dodge!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu then burrowed underground, just as Nuzleaf fired off Razor Wind, missing the Mouse Pokemon.

"Be careful, Nuzleaf! Pikachu can come up at any moment!" Isabelle warned. Nuzleaf watched the battlefield closely, only for Pikachu to erupt from the ground directly beneath Nuzleaf, striking the Wily Pokemon.

"Alright Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu then fired off Thunderbolt at pointblank range, sending Nuzleaf down to defeat.

"Nuzleaf is unable to battle, the winner is Pikachu! And so, victory goes to Baron Lincoln Loud!" the referee declared.

"Nice one, Pikachu!" Lincoln commended.

"If we keep this up, we'll be in great shape for our rematch!" Pikachu replied, as Isabelle recalled Nuzleaf, and approached Lincoln.

"Well fought, Lincoln. If you keep this up, you should be able to increase your ranking much more quickly," she said.

"Yes, that is what I hope for," Lincoln replied, as Isabelle returned to her seat.

"If you're up for it, I'll take you on next! I'm Diego from Undella Town in the Unova Region!" another trainer volunteered, stepping up to the plate.

"Sure, I accept your challenge!" Lincoln declared, as he continued to battle.
