Chapter Twelve
Becoming Adults
A/N – It might be hard to believe but I had a friend that was kicked by a horse and I have to say from his perspective, it hurts. We will follow Wyatt's remaining recovery and the continuing love story between him and Lyndy. As I have said, they will be a major focus, as expected, with my goal to develop their relationship and life moving forward. JT is a rock star and I expect events he will be experiencing, one which will be good and the other a challenge, will continue to show you how exceptional he is. The twins will continue to excel and I am really excited to go to the Olympics this summer with you. Maddie will be heavily focused on the Special Needs Rodeo along with her second year of high school. She has accomplished so much and the hits will keep coming. The business will also continue to prosper and a big opportunity may be coming the Equine Center's way. And not to be shorted, Amy and Ty will continue to excel in what they do as the Equine and Rehoming Centers continue to grow in scope and notoriety. I know they get a lot of gruff but deep down everyone looks forward to their romantic interactions and cuddling. Some other characters will have some things happening to them as well. I expect to use several chapters to get us to Spring Break where a family trip may be forthcoming. Lots to do and read. Don't stop telling me how I am doing as I appreciate your involvement with my story. THANKS! Mature Content – Enjoy!
Reader's Warning - This chapter has implications of bullying, inappropriate teasing and physical abuse. I will handle it with respect but will not deter from the impact this type of attack can have on someone.

As the weeks passed, Wyatt continued to improve and Lyndy could finally rest and relax. He was about to accomplish three things, get back to school, get back to work and stop needing the pain meds. This was very important to him and although at times he was hurting, he pushed through and fought the pain. He still had moments he needed them but they were becoming less and less of an issue. Lyndy gave him space but still helped him, to which he was grateful. He loved her so much as she loved him and together they were becoming a force in the family. Once he was feeling up to it, he took her out for dinner and a movie and they had an amazing time, enjoying good food and not really watching the movie too much. They had moved back upstairs and were so happy to be back in their bed. The night of their date they laid together talking quietly, so much in love. He rolled over and kissed her deeply, even though it stung a little. She smiled and decided that tonight, she would do all the work. She rolled him on his back and straddled him slowly taking off her PJ's and helping him out of his. Their lovemaking was amazing as she made sure he was comfortable and not in pain. As they reached their mutual climax he moaned her name and as was tradition, she put her hands on his mouth to muffle his ecstasy. As they caught their breath he smiled and looked into her beautiful eyes, "Thank you for standing by my side while I recovered, and not being too overbearing. You, Lyndy Borden are a keeper and I can't wait to marry you." She smiled, "So when are we going to set a date lover boy." He smiled, "Well we probably need to graduate first and then, maybe the fall or at Christmas like your mom and dad?" She shook her head, "Well we have time, but maybe it would be cool to announce it at our grad party, if mom and dad are good with it." He smiled and looked into her eyes again. She blushed knowing where this was going, "Seems your back is feeling pretty good tonight." She looked down and giggled, "And your front too." He groaned as she checked for sure. Their time away from intimacy was a struggle for each of them, so tonight they were going to catch up. The rest of the family was settling in as well as they were a couple of months from spring break and the hinted family trip to somewhere warm. Amy and Ty were tightlipped but did offer that they would be going somewhere for sure, since it was such a big year. Annie and Addie had already started lobbying for Desi and Jeremy to go. Maddie and JT were also promoting the idea of bringing friends too and their parents were considering it. Secretly, they had been talking to their friend's parents and making arrangement for them all to go. Amy and Ty had worked with a high end client that was so happy that they had offered their place in Cabo San Lucas that was big enough for at least 16 people and they had accepted. Even though they offered it for free, Amy and Ty were insistent to pay something, but it met deaf ears. All of the friend's parents had all offered to handle airfare cost, even offering to pay part of the cost of the condo, but Amy and Ty told them they got a great deal. The plan was to announce it to everyone at a Sunday dinner where the kids could unknowingly invite their traveling partners. Amy and Ty were definitely playing it cool but were excited. Between this and the trip to the Olympics, it was going to be an epic year.
After the Olympic Qualifier win, Annie had become an instant celebrity on campus, as everyone heard the news of her accomplishment. The University asked to use her Olympic conquest as a recruiting tool, as well. She graciously accepted the offer even though it meant her picture being plastered all over the place and in several brochures. She was invited to speak to several classes and the Town of Hudson had a day just for their hometown hero with an assembly at City Hall. She was sitting at dinner one night and was overwhelmed. The Webers and Foster's had joined them so after they were done, all of the women sat down to talk about it. Georgie led the chat, "Annie, the attention you are going to get will be overwhelming, especially when you win the gold." They all chuckled at Georgie's assumption. "What, she will win and the focus will even be more intense. But I am going to give you a secret on how to handle it. When you become the focus of attention for basically everyone, you need to remember one thing. Everything you need right here at home and you don't need anything else." Addie laughed, "Yeah superstar, you are just plain old Annie to us." Everyone laughed as Amy continued looking a little somber, "When I went to Europe, I had an amazing experience, but I lost track of what was really important to me. When I came back I was unbearable asking for the world including changes to Heartland for my new high end client base. I was a mess." She hesitated catching her breath, "I almost lost your dad and treated him horribly. It wasn't until Pike River that I realized that I was not in a good place and luckily your dad had the patience to wait for me. Honey, don't ever forget how important this group is to you. Like the females of our family meant when they came up with the name Heartland reminding everyone that home is where the heart is." Annie smiled and hugged her mom and Georgie tightly, "Thanks, I am excited about competing and feel better about the rest." She looked around at everyone, "I am going to need all of you, so in advance, thank you." They were interrupted when Jack walked in looking a little concerned, "What the heck is going on in here. Don't worry, the men have everything covered while you guys party." The all laughed as Katie spoke up, "GG we are just talking about how amazing and wonderful you are and how much we all love you." He smirked, "Whatever." The dinner ended and everyone went home as the Borden's settled in. Even though their friends weren't there, Amy and Ty thought it would be a good time to talk about the trip so the kids could start getting ready for being out of the country for 6 days. They sat in the lounge when Ty got everyone's attention. "Well, mom and I have an announcement." JT smiled, "Am I getting a new little brother?" Lyndy poked him, No I told you about the fact that can't happen." They all laughed as JT frowned a little. Addie poked him, "Don't worry buddy, you will have a little niece or nephew soon I bet." Now it was time for Lyndy and Ty's eyes to get big as he mumbled, "I hope not too soon." Again they all laughed as Amy gathered them in again. "So, we wanted to tell you about our spring break trip. I know some of you would like to go somewhere with your friends, but we hope that we can have a family and possibly friends trip before these two graduate and get hitched." She grabbed Ty's hand, "So do you remember the Ramones from California who brought their horse here for us to help." Annie smiled, "Yeah, his name was Rusty Nail, a champion dressage horse who was not able to focus anymore." Addie giggled, "And the really, really cute son came with them, he was really hot." The girls giggled in agreement as Wyatt smacked his fiancé, "Really." She laughed, "Hey it's free to look, but he is not even close to being as hot as you." Amy calmed them again. "Anyway they were so pleased, that they offered us their large condo in Cabo San Lucas, right on the ocean anytime we wanted it. So we talked to them and will be heading there over Spring Break for 6 days of sun and fun." The kids were excited as Ty continued, "Yep, they have a couple of boats and toys as well as their own pool and the place comfortably sleeps 16." Maddie started looking around, "That's kind of big for us isn't it?" Amy and Ty looked at each other and smiled. "Well, we talked to Jeremy, Desi, Ricky and Gwen's parents and they are coming too. And JT, Mallory is good with Trent and Shawna coming too. That's if it's Ok with you guys. That will make 14 people in total, so we will have plenty of room." The kids sat motionless for a second and then burst out in screams of delight. A cool vacation with boyfriends and friends, nothing could be better.
As the weeks carried on the kids tried to stay focused on school and work, even though the excitement of the spring break trip was constantly on their minds. Even though the older girls were away a lot they really stayed in touch with Maddie and JT and of course their parents as much as they could. JT still didn't have a phone but had a watch thing that allowed him to text only to his family and more importantly let his mom and dad know where he was. Wyatt and JT continued to stay close through text and sometimes phone calls. As promised JT also called Max at least once a week and of course he remained very close to his mom and dad. His communication with Jack, Max and Wyatt was very important to him as it allowed him to have a guy to talk to. He love his sisters but somethings were not easy to talk to them about. One night kind of late, Ty's phone rang and he picked up a little worried seeing a familiar name from Colorado. "Max is everything Ok?" Max smiled into the phone, "Actually everything is great here, so much going on with the kids and their families. I spend a lot of time at athletic and dance events, you know Grandpa stuff. Is Amy close?" Now even more alarmed, he called her over to the bed and put the phone on speaker. "So I wanted to let you know the last few times I spoke to JT he seemed to be bothered by something. I don't know what exactly but he was asking me questions that aren't the typical things we talk about. And Wyatt called me and said he had heard the same thing in his voice when they chat, like a concern or even confusion." He took a breath as Amy talked shakily, "Do you think he is having issues sleeping again? I know he has told us he is worried because he hasn't heard from his visitors lately, especially Lilly. Do you think that is on his mind?" Max chuckled, "Well I know that is true, but I don't think it is affecting his sleep, he just really wants to talk to her, Marion and GG Lyndy. I do think that is bothering him but I think it is something else that is on his mind." Again Max took a moment, then continued. "He talks about all of you but lately he has been talking more about Shawna and Trent, especially Trent. He has asked me why I thought he has become more anti-social and reserved lately. He thinks something is wrong but doesn't know what to do. The poor guy is so perceptive and caring sometimes he really gets wrapped up in stuff. I have to be honest, the last time we talked I was ready to hop on a plane and head up to see him." Amy and Ty took a moment to gather their thoughts as Amy spoke up, "Actually Mallory and I had this same discussion a week ago. Some of his teachers called, voicing the same concern. Trent is such a happy and content kid and his bond with JT is pretty amazing. It's funny when you watch the three of them together, it's like they are always there for each other." Ty spoke up, "So do we ask him. He has always been pretty straightforward. He has never had a problem saying what he thinks." They all laughed in agreement about the strait shooting young boy. After a moment, Amy decided, "Well I think we should and maybe we get grandpa in the loop. His bond with the two of you is pretty amazing so maybe we bring you two in on the discussion." Max pondered the plan and interceded. "I understand but maybe you guys and maybe Wyatt can help. He is really close to him and I think he may be more open with him there. Then maybe after we determine what is up, Jack and I can step in." Ty smiled, "Sounds like a plan. We will talk to Wyatt and keep an eye on our little man. Thanks Max for being his friend, we are so happy he has you." They ended the call with a plan in place but sleep would be hard to come to all three of them.
It was the middle of the week and Annie, Addie and Jeremy were in the apartment, quizzing each other for some tests on the way. Jeremy refereed as the girls bickered back and forth, as their majors were so different. Annie would comment, "Who cares about the correct combustion ratio for a diesel engine," and Addie would complain back, "Oh wow from the girl who worries about debits and credits like they are important." Jeremy would laugh at them, "You two are crazy, Desi and I must be crazy for being with you." As two sets of bright eyes glared at him preparing to attack his comment the door opened with a smiling Desi carrying a couple of pizzas. "Hey guys are you hungry?" Noticing the tense room he stepped back, "Ok, what is up, do I need to drop the pizzas and run?" Addie demeanor changed immediately as she went and jumped in his arms for a kiss after he luckily set the pizza down first. Annie calmed as well as the four of them took a break from studying and sat at the table eating pizza talking about their day. The four of them were close and were excited about their future. But the talk also was about the family trip to Mexico. Desi laughed, "My mom and dad were surprised when your parents called but agreed to it immediately. My mom said I know you all are adults but it was still nice that they called and filled them in on the particulars. My dad joked that he kind of wanted to go too." They laughed as they shared the excitement of having 6 days on the beach. Jeremy spoke softly, "Annie, I can't wait to see you in a bikini." She blushed, "Well seeing you in some trunks and no shirt, I am all for that as well." Addie had a revelation, "Annie we need to go shopping." She laughed, "Mom is all over it, a week from Saturday, the girls are going shopping. Let the beach ware be bought along with few bikinis. She promised that dad would not be involved." They laughed again and continued to eat. They resumed the studying and now with Desi there, who was a bit more calm, they finished everything and headed off to bed. As the young couples laid in bed that night their thoughts were on bikinis and shirtless boyfriends. Although still early Maddie had her mind on the special Kids Rodeo coming in early summer. As her friends would tell you, her mind was always active going a mile a minute. She had a meeting set up with the local Autism Speaks foundation who got wind of the rodeo from their friends at Good Morning Calgary who also were a sponsor and promoter of the event. Lou would be going with her as the Chairman of the Board of the family company to support her niece and help with any questions about their proposed involvement. This was quite the opportunity, and along with the Albertan Down's Syndrome Association would give them the two top support groups in Alberta. The plan was for Lou to pick her up from school a little early so Maddie had dressed up a little for the meeting in Calgary and several of her friends noticed. She had lunch with Ricky and he couldn't keep his eyes off of her. The talked quietly about the meeting and the spring break trip. "He laughed, "I am so excited about our trip and seeing you for six days straight. And if this is an example of a dressed up Maddie, I bet your swimsuit will be amazing." Maddie blushed, which for her was rare, except when he was around. The kissed quickly and he wished her good luck as they headed off to class. Maddie headed out to meet Lou and they made the ride into Calgary. Both of them were dressed sharply as Maddie marveled at the professional presence that Lou always portrayed. She always not only thought of her as an aunt but as a mentor and hope to emulate her as she moved forward in school and her career. They pulled into the underground lot of the building where they were located and found a spot. They gathered all of their materials and headed up the elevator, anxious and excited about this meeting. Bringing this organization on board would make the event even bigger than it was already, so they smiled as the doors opened to the floor they needed to go to. They were greeted by the receptionist and told it would just be a minute. Maddie was a little nervous since a farm girl wasn't use to the corporate world. Lou smiled, "Mads, you look great and are going to do well. Remember these folks asked to see us so we have the edge. In business that is everything and trust me after you go through the materiel we have for them they will be on board." She smiled continuing, "I know people make fun of us for being a little alike, but you are a confident and intelligent young women and will be successful in whatever you do. Oh and there is the beautiful thing too." They giggled and hugged as someone came out ushering them into a meeting room. The game was on.
After things settled after Wyatt's injury and Annie's successful Olympic tryout, Amy and Ty returned to their day to day, which was as busy as ever. After successfully organizing their Spring Break trip they now were being inundated with new clients that heard of a place that has a highly regarded vet team, one of Canada's most famous horse healing teams, not one but now two Olympic competitors and a company that that was highly sought after for help. Amy, Ty and the rest of the team always adjusted and adapted to the needs of their customers. Their goal was to never turn anyone away and were normally successful even when some people had to wait. All of the extra work also kept them busy as both of them still were committed to hold occasional programs at the University and Amy did her best to keep up with clinic request, although they were more and more of a challenge. The company's philanthropic endeavors also took some time away from work but in the end their value to them community outweigh the extra work. They had made a few trips to Europe as an organization really wanted to set up a Marion Fleming Equine Center there but they had told the investors that they would need a year or two before they could consider it. The troubled youth and clinical programs were running well as both provided much needed learning and guidance for the participants as well as a lot of help with the increase in their workload. Cass and Ellie continued to do an amazing job with the students and they had a lot of interest from other Universities that visited. The youth program was still overseen by Clint's team although he had been promoted and wasn't in the everyday any more. Clay, Rusty and Wyatt oversaw the group but they could be found all over the company and cycled through every 6 months. Over the year participants from the program had come on board as team members and some of the university students did a stint as techs as well before they became DVMs. Through all of the chaos, Amy and Ty never lost sight of their love for each other. After a really busy day of challenges for both of them Amy was late coming to bed. She checked on JT and Maddie and went up slowly, figuring that Ty was most likely asleep. As the approach she notice the light from the room was dim, but when she opened the door her eyes opened wide. The room was adorned with candles and soft music was playing. Ty stood there with a single rose smiling. She walked over to him, looking kind of hot in his pajama shorts and a night shirt, took the rose and hugged him tightly. She began to speak when Ty put his finger on her lips. He whispered, "No words my love, tonight is just for you. He helped her out of her jacket and slowly walked her to the bathroom where he had drawn a hot lavender bath. He gently helped her out of her clothes and guided he into the tub. Without any words he joined her as she laid back onto his body and his strength. He knew that she had been really stressed lately, trying to help everyone she could, which was why he loved her so much. Amy sighed deeply and looked up into his eyes, "Ty this is perfect, thank you." He smiled and kissed her as she turned around to face him, "Anything for my horsey girl." She went on the offensive and kissed him deeper than ever moving her hand below the water to show him how much this meant to her. He moaned as she moved her hand gracefully in the water. Ty was not going to miss his chance and move his hands all over her body caressing her bringing moans from her as well. The pleasured each other in the tub releasing together in the hands of their lover. As they settled, they got up, toweled each other off and headed to the bed. Ty had some water and chocolates to them to recharge with. As they laid next to each other they kissed with a passion only meant for them. Their foreplay grew in intensity as they joined as one. Amy laid back as he entered her gently and with care for her needs. Amy marveled at how he was so attentive to her needs and tonight she needed him in every sense of the word. She welcomed his movements and joined him in their rhythm of love and passion. They moved together until each realized that their partner was ready and together they reach a climax of complete and satisfying love. As usual Ty carried on a few extra minutes until both of them fell back, sweating and breathing heavily, but with smiles on their faces. She gathered herself, "Well done Dr. Borden, you are amazing and I have never loved you more." He chuckled, "Well you aren't too bad yourself Miracle Girl." She kissed him as they rolled to face each other and kiss deeply. He pulled back and she laid her head into his chest. He spoke quietly, "Well I guess we need to blow all these candles out. She rolled over on top of him, "Why, we still need a little light for round two."
A few nights later everyone was home for the weekend and in their rooms sleeping soundly. Maddie, was startled when she felt someone looking at her and after she rubbed her eyes, she realized it was JT, who seemed a little frazzled. She waved him into her bed and whispered, "Hey buddy having trouble sleeping?" He calmly answered her, "I talked to Grandma Lilly." She sat quietly giving him a moment and spoke softly, "How is she?" He looked over to her, "She is Ok, she is just getting use to things, but I could tell she was a little sad. I think she misses everyone. Grandma Marion and GG Lyndy were with her and she was riding a horse, it looked kind of funny." Maddie laughed, "That is funny, she rarely was on a horse for sure." They both laid there for a second just thinking. Finally, JT spoke up. "I was happy to see her but it made me sadder than I thought it would. She seems a little off. I am just being weird, I know she is fine, we talked about it before she died." Maddie pondered his comments, overwhelmed with his control and composure. They heard a soft tap on the door as Annie and Addie had heard them talking and within a minute Lyndy showed up too. JT laughed, "I am overrun with sisters." They all hopped in the bed giggling and tickling each other. JT told his story to the others and they listened without speaking a word. As he finished they assured him that everything would be OK. As he finished, Amy popped her head in the door, "So, is there a party I am missing?" They all laughed softly. Lyndy filled her in that JT had talked to Grandma Lilly. Amy smiled noticing he was a little stressed about it, "Honey, that is great, but we need to get some sleep. Maddie, can TJ stay with you?" She smiled in agreement as Amy continued, "Tomorrow is going to be a family day. Maybe we will even invite dad and Wyatt who are sleeping still. We will all do our vacation shopping and have lunch and maybe comeback for a ride." They girls eyes were wide as she laughed, "Don't worry, we will send the boys off while we are getting our swimsuits." Relieved they all headed off to bed but Amy stayed for a second to hold her boy. "Honey, I am happy that you finally got to talk to her, but I think we need to talk more about it tomorrow, Ok." He laughed, "Ok, but mom, it was weird, grandma was on a horse." They all laughed and Amy headed back to bed. Amy climbed back into bed and Ty moved over to her, "Where have you been, I almost sent a posse out to find you." She giggled, "Well all of the girls were in Maddie's room with JT, he finally spoke to Lilly and he seems a little out of sorts. I think we needed to talk more but he was dozing off. I told the girls we all will go shopping tomorrow, have lunch and maybe, if the weather cooperates go for a family ride. But you boys are not allowed to be with us when we buy our swimsuits." Ty frowned with puppy dog eyes, "I can't see the bikinis you all buy? I bet you will look hot." She smiled blushing a little, "I will give you a private showing before we go." He smiled brightly, thinking about how beautiful she would look." They held each other looking forward to the family day but also a little concerned about JT. They fell asleep in each other's arms happy and content.
At breakfast, the next morning JT seemed more settled as he detailed his discussion with the three women that meant so much to him and the family. He laughed about the horse again but did say that Marion held Lilly's hand the entire time for support. He smiled, "It was like she was there for her and the transition she was going through. GG Lyndy didn't say much but I could tell how proud she was of Grandma Marion and her caring heart." Everyone smiled and Wyatt spoke up, "Hey buddy later today or tomorrow let's call GG and Grandpa Max and tell them, I bet they will be excited." He smiled but got serious, "Actually that would be great but I will need some time alone with Grandpa Max, Lilly asked me to tell him a few things that are private." Again everyone marveled in his level of maturity and control as Wyatt smiled and gave him a thumbs up. They piled into two vehicles and headed to the big mall in Calgary. The girls would head their way and the boys had their plans ready as well. The goal was to meet at the restaurant around 1:00pm. The weather was not cooperating so the ride was scrubbed so they were going to do a little more shopping and have a family pizza night. Amy texted Jack and Max about the call which they would do after dinner. After quick goodbyes and hugs, the ladies headed to the stores they had already decided to go. At the first store they immediately went to the swim suits and giggling began looking them over. A sales lady noticed the group of five women mulling around and offered to help. Amy laughed, "You may want to get away, these girls are crazy. We are going to Mexico over Spring break as a family. We are even letting the girls bring their boyfriends and my oldest, her fiancé." The woman's eyes opened wide, "Wait these are your daughters?" Maddie ran over, "I know isn't she beautiful and hot. She also has a son but the boys are not allowed with us, especially my dad." The sales person smiled in awe, "Well you have some beautiful daughters and I would be excited to help you guys." Over the next hour or so, the girls tried on bikinis and some one piece suits along with some shorts and nice soft tops. Amy smiled but commented that a lot of skin was showing. She knew the girls were comfortable with their bodies but also realized that their boyfriends would be there and eventually Ty would see them. Addie spoke up, "Mom, we need to get our tans on, it's not about the boys." She smiled as the salesperson consoled her as they watched the fashion show. A few other women staff watched and were awestruck at the four beautiful young women. They made some decisions and then the girls grabbed their mom and picked out some stuff for her. Tentatively, she tried a few things on and modeled for her daughters. There were several very nice one piece suits and a couple of bikinis. Annie spoke as she walked out in her first bikini, "Oh my god mom, you are so hot. You look amazing." Amy blushed, "I don't know, it is kind of small and shows a lot of skin." The saleslady helping them smiled, "Mrs. Borden, you have nothing to be shy about, you look stunning." Lyndy laughed, "Well you guys, dad already can't keep his hands off her, when he sees this he may pass out." They finished up and made their purchases as they had one more store to go to. The plan was to get some sandals, sunglasses and beach hats for the fair skinned Canadians. The five of them laughed so much it hurt and Amy's smiles were warm and happy. She loved her daughters and shopping with them as adults was perfect. She looked at them checking out misty eyed when she felt a tug at her pants. She looked over as a smiling JT looked up at her, "The two other chickens made me come to get you for lunch. They are hungry." She pulled him into a hug and smiled, "Well we are done so we will meet you there in 15 minutes." They had selected a place in the mall that had a great lunch menu and atmosphere. As the girls walked out they found that Ty, Wyatt and JT were waiting and walked with them. Lyndy held her bags and Wyatt's hand. He tried to sneak a look inside the bag and she slapped him, whispering in his ear, "Later lover boy." Their lunch was a lot of fun and the waiter that took care of them was overwhelmed with the group. He was cute, so Addie, Annie and Maddie swooned a little until JT reminded them they had boyfriends. During lunch Amy and Ty sat close whispering to each other and Annie joked with the table. "Look at those two, and in public. Wait until dad sees mom's bikini." Ty raised his eyebrows, "Oh really, I hope everything you all bought is tasteful." Lyndy laughed, "That's one way to put it." The table erupted and Ty sulked until Amy kissed his cheek, "Don't worry dad, just another burden of having such beautiful daughters." JT smiled and spoke out, "And a beautiful wife." The table erupted again as Wyatt high fived his little buddy.
The call with Max and Jack went well. His mom and dad along with Maddie sat with him as he talked through the talk he had with Lilly while the others tended to the family horses. He told them he was happy to see that Marion and Lyndy were by her side for support as it seemed she was a little stressed getting use to afterlife but was happy that she finally got a chance to talk to him. He smiled on the video, "Grandpa Max, she looked good and as we talked she seemed to calm more and more. Grandma Marion had her arm around her after they got off their horses and sat on a bench, like one behind the Day Care Center. That's was where we sat and talked as I sat on the grass in front of them. And she was on a horse when they came up to me. It was funny seeing Grandma Lilly on a horse but she seemed to be doing Ok. GG Lyndy laughed and told me she had given her a quick lesson." He hesitated as Jack spoke up, "Well JT your GG Lyndy was quite the horsewoman so she had a good teacher." Amy interjected, "Well she definitely doesn't have much of a choice in this family, we kind of like horses." JT got a serious look, "She really misses us, especially you Grandpa Max but she is happy and I think talking to me gave her some relief from not being with us." He smiled, "I told her anytime she wanted to, she should visit me and I can let everyone know she is Ok." Before they ended the call, JT asked to talk to Max privately, so the group left and Jack said goodbye. After about 15 minutes, JT came out content that he got to talk to him. He also had to tell his dad a few things but shared them with everyone. Over the next few days the family kept an eye on their special son and brother. Generally these experiences were taxing on him but he seemed Ok after talking with Lilly. With his permission, Amy called the team at the University, who still met with him regularly and as a group without him. Amy detailed the entire event, including the calls to Max and Jack. They were interested as it seemed this interaction had a lot more detail so they asked if they could talk to him. Again with his permission they came to his school and met with him along with Amy, Ty, Wyatt and his sisters. They all made sure they were there to support him. To be honest, they also wanted to be here to protect him as sometimes members of the team were a little aggressive and at times it upset him. They all understood the gift he had and were all committed to make sure he was safe from any extra stress. The meeting went well and the college kids agreed to a family dinner at Maggie's. JT asked if Trent and Shawna could come and they came home with them as well. The family enjoyed a happy and talkative dinner. As they sat, Wyatt and Lyndy noticed that Trent was quiet and on several occasions, JT would lean over and talk to him quietly. Lyndy whispered in his ear, "Something is up with Trent, look at JT's face. They both really look upset." Lyndy looked over to her mom as she had just noticed it too. As dinner finished, Lyndy and Wyatt offered to take JT, Trent and Shawna to get some ice cream and then home. Annie and Addie had come straight from school. Lyndy grabbed her mom as they walked out, "Hey we are going to take them to get ice cream. Something is wrong with Trent, so can you get with Mallory and Doug. We will take them to their house and I hope they open up. Can you guys kind of prep them before we show up. I think Annie and Addie are going back to school and I am sure Maddie can come with you guys. As Lyndy and Wyatt got their riders seated and took off. Amy and Ty talked to the girls and told Annie and Addie to call Maddie later for an update. At this point, all of them had noticed the situation with Trent and how worried JT and Shawna seemed. They all headed on their way with concerns for their brother and his best friends.
On the ride, Amy called Mallory to let her know what they had observed. She was at the Rehoming Center going over some things with Ellory and became very upset. Ellory noticed it and took the phone, telling them she would drive her home and someone would follow her to take her back. She said she would stay until they arrived. Amy's next call was to Doug as Mallory couldn't do it. When he answered she spoke calmly, "Doug, it's Amy. First off, I have already talked to Mallory and Ellory is taking her to your house. Trent and Shawna came with us to dinner at Maggie's after school and we noticed that he seemed to be upset and JT along with Shawna were trying to calm him. Lyndy and Wyatt took the three of them to get ice cream and we are heading to your house." She took a breath as Doug spoke quietly, "Well I am not surprised. We think something is happening at school but he and Shawna won't talk about it. He has really seemed withdrawn lately and always stays in his room. We had found him talking to JT and her whispering several times over the last week. I will be home in 15 minutes." Amy and Ty pulled up to the house as Mallory and Ellory were getting out of the car. Mallory ran to Amy and Ty in tears, "Did you talk to Doug, we knew something was wrong. He has been so sad lately and won't talk to me. Amy what is wrong with him." She collapsed into Amy and Ty's arms just as Doug pulled up. He jumped out of the car going to hug his wife, as Ellory and her ride said goodbye, "Let's go inside to talk, I don't think they need to see us outside waiting for them." Amy added, "Lyndy just texted me and said they would be here in a half hour. She said Trent is talking a little, and it seems something has been going on at school." Maddie spoke up, "I will go get Lexi at the Day care and hang out with Katie, Clay and the kids. Let me know when you want me to bring her home." Amy smiled and gave her the keys as they would ride home with Wyatt and Lyndy. The four of them went into the house as Amy stayed with Mallory. Ty and Doug talked softly and Ty proposed that he was likely being bullied. His personal experience told him that was why Trent had been so different. Lyndy texted that they were 5 minutes away and they waited patiently for the group to get home. As they door opened, Trent and Shawna were surprised that JT's parents were there, since their car was gone. As soon as she saw him, Mallory ran to her son scooping him up in her arms. He immediately knew something was wrong and joined her in a torrent of tears. Shawna was overwhelmed and ran to her dad and JT went to his mom as well. It took a few minutes but everyone finally settled. Trent was the first to speak, "Mommy, what's wrong, why are you so upset?" Mallory couldn't speak so JT grabbed Shawna's hand and spoke up, "Trent, everyone saw that you were upset at dinner. We can't hide what is happening any longer." He was having trouble catching his breath as Shawna continued, "Trent we need to tell mom and dad about those boys at school and what they have been doing to you. Please." JT and Shawna went to hug Trent as he continued to cry. Wyatt looked at Lyndy and whispered, "maybe we should leave." Trent looked at them, "No, can you stay and you guys too," looking at Amy and Ty. "I want to tell you all what is going on."
They settled around the dining room table as an almost relieved Trent spoke up. "First mom and dad I have to tell you something. JT kind figured it out a while ago but over the last year or so, I have come to realize that I am a little different. I know, I just only turned 11 but these feelings have been bothering me for a while. Don't get mad but I have been talking to Bella, Lyndy's friend because I am gay. I have never had feelings about girls and until a short while ago I realized why. Bella never told me what to do, she just answered my questions. She told me she realized she was a lesbian before she turned 10 and luckily had someone to talk to as well. I hope I have not disappointed you but I can't change how I feel. JT and Shawna have been amazing friends through all of this." He hesitated and saw the deflated look on his mom. "Mom, this is not your fault and we made sure we kept things quiet." Mallory smiled meekly, "Trent, I love you and am proud that you understand who you are. I think Bella and Maya are amazing and I am so happy you had someone to talk to." She grabbed Doug's hand, "We love you two and you little sister so much but we need to know what happened at school." Trent looked at JT for help as he struggled talking about it. JT smiled and took his friends hand, "There are three boys who have been harassing him for almost three months. Somehow the assumed that Trent was gay and confronted him several times, calling him a fagot and gay boy." JT took a breath as Shawna grabbed his other hand. The adults were overwhelmed with how mature they were handling this and how close they were. Shawna spoke up, "Trent, show them." Trent pulled up his t-shirt sowing them multiple bruises and spoke quietly, "The last few times they cornered me and hit me, but never in my face. They said that would be seen and threatened me it I told anyone. The one boy said they were going to beat the gay out of me so I became normal. I couldn't get away from them as they are all pretty big. Shawna found out first when I grimaced picking something up. She told JT and I told them a few weeks ago. I am so sorry I hid it from you mom and dad." The six adults sat silently trying to absorb what he had told them. Doug and Ty looked at each other with thoughts of teaching those boys a lesson. Amy was holding on to Mallory, who was in shock. Lyndy had pulled Shawna into her lap as she cried into her grasp. Wyatt went over to Trent and JT and hugged them both tightly and spoke to them, "Trent, you are a very brave young man and JT, you are an amazing friend." He looked over to Shawna, "And you little lady are an amazing sister. So Trent, what can we do to help you. These boys need to be dealt with. I know it is scary because I was bullied since I didn't have parents. But we can't let them do this to you or anyone else." Amy, Ty, Mallory, Doug and Lyndy smiled in agreement. Mallory spoke up, "Sweetie, what can we do to help." Trent smiled and hugged his mom and dad, who had settled down a lot. "Well I guess we should go talk to the principal and my counselor. I know there are others that these boys pick on and they have gotten in trouble before." The generally sweet Shawna interrupted, "Yeah but they have hit you Trent, those losers need to pay for that. They need to go down" Everyone laughed a little as the brash comments and she giggled. "Sorry, but this makes me mad." Doug hugged her, "I think it makes all of us mad sweetie and we all need to be strong for Trent and get passed this." They talked for a while longer and agreed that since there was only one day of school that the three of would not go. JT was spending the night, so Amy called Maddie and asked her to pick up some clothes for him before she brought Lexi back. Trent and Shawna wanted their little sister home with them. The three youngsters went to Trent's room to calm a bit. The adults sat and talked about a plan. Mallory was angry, not just at the boys who did this but the fact that she never knew what was happening. Lyndy smiled, "Mallory, this is not your fault, although I have seen and heard that you are always the one in the know. Trent is strong and I bet if he went to Bella, she was good for him. We will all get through this together." Amy and Ty smiled as Amy spoke up, "Mallory let us know what we can do, anything you need." Mallory smiled at all of them, "I love you all so much and we will need you. I will call the school first thing in the morning and set the meeting up" Ty spoke up, "Well tomorrow it is. Just let us know what you need." The group hugged as Maddie showed up with a happy Lexi, who ran to her mom for a hug. JT came and got his bag and Maddie was quiet expecting she would hear later. JT went to hug his mom and Lyndy as they told him to behave. He hugged his dad and then Wyatt realizing how amazing his family was.
