AN: I originally planned for Helena to return to the Wizarding World with a few of the friends she made in the original, but for the remake, I tweak a few things when the time comes; such as the arrival of Hermione and Sirius. Remus will stay behind this time but will join them later on.
Ch 17 Helena's First Battle
"Welcome, welcome and good tighten my friends." Wattson greeted the group of trainers he met a few months back. "I hope you enjoyed my new improved visitor ride. It was a trial and error project until I figure out the bug!" He laughs.
"Same old Wattson, always filled with excitement." Roxanne chuckled at their friend.
Brawly grins, never a dull moment with the middle-aged Gym Leader. "You always somehow find the best things to invent Wattson!" the young Surfer stated.
Wattson laughs, glad to see Brawly's energetic personality. "Indeed I do, Brawly. My mind is filled with so many ideas that I need to invent." He looks at the trainers he'd seen before when they visited his Gym not long ago.
The middle-aged man's eyes caught the aspiring Champion assisting a new face to the group. "Take it easy, you'll get dizzy if you stand quickly." Steven kindly spoke to the rookie.
"I got it," Helena smiles, grateful for Steven's assistance. "Thank you, Steven," She thanked him as he leads her off the platform.
The two walk a bit further on the Battlefield standing with their friends. Wattson got a good look at the new trainer in their group. "Seems like you have a new face in your little group," The Electric-type Gym Leader smiles at the new trainer.
Steven lets go of Helena, feeling like she can stand on her own. He still watches Helena carefully if she might be still dizzy from the ride.
Helena walks up to the founder of Mauville City politely, "Hello, my name's Helena Potter, I'm a new trainer that just started on a journey with everyone a few months back." She introduced herself to the middle-aged man.
"Well a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Potter." Wattson greeted the new trainer, "I can tell that you've learned a lot from the Trainer School if you're traveling with this group." The middle-aged man commented,
"Yes, everyone helped me a lot to get accustomed to becoming a Pokemon trainer" Helena responded, looking at the friends that helped her.
Wallace looks at Helena, placing his hand on her shoulders. "Yep, our little Ellie. She is becoming one hell of a veteran trainer," He smiles like a big brother. "Am I right, Ellie?" He coos at her.
Helena gave the teal-haired boy a blank stare for giving her praises. "Yes, but do you really need to say it out loud?" She asked the Champion, feeling embarrassed by his words.
"Well, you are picking up everything that the Trainer School really fast." The Champion stated, smiling at how far she's gone just in a few months. "That said, you never make a big deal out of it. I even heard some teachers rave about you on your progress."
Everyone agreed, hearing the teachers talking from time to time in the halls. "You got that right, take some bit of pride Helena!" Roxanne was proud of her friend.
"Own it, girl!" Flannery laughs, both hands on her sides.
Helena's face blushed, pushing aside a strand of her hair. "Guys, come on." She can't help but giggle. "Not in front of the Gym Leader. I was simply doing my part as a student."
Wattson chuckled, seeing the new girl has some potential from what he's hearing. "You're modest, I like it! It makes me want to have a Battle," That idea popped into his head like a lightbulb. "Say, Ms. Potter, have you ever been in a Pokemon Battle yet?"
"Just a few times, like when I used Headmaster Keith's Corsola to battle my Kirlia and when my Kirlia save my Dratini from poachers." The former Witch explained to the Gym Leader. "Other than some simulated battles from school…no, I haven't." Helena stated.
"Then please allow me to endorse you to a Pokemon Battle." The middle-aged man requested,
Helena and the others blink, hearing the odd request from the Wattson. "I-I'm sorry, but a battle here and now?" She asked once more. "I-I'm sorry, but I feel like I'm not ready for it yet."
"Come now, didn't you beat your Kirlia which is rare to battle despite being a beginner." Wattson reasons with the interesting trainer in his eyes. "And didn't you say that Dratini, a rare Dragon-type Pokemon by normal standards is rare to have? In my view, you are capable of battling; you just need to trust yourself."
Helena looks at her friends who were confident in her abilities. "W-Wait, you guys too!?"
"I mean you did train both your Pokemon during those simulations," Roxanne points out, remembering the many times she saw her training Dratini and Kirlia. "You are quite strong with that training,"
The former Witch blinks, "You think I can do it?"
Steven gave Helena a confident smile towards her, having faith in her skills as a trainer. "We'll never know as long as you try."
"Go for it, dudette!" Brawly gave a thumbs up, supporting her through this Battle. Flannery and Wallace nodded, agreeing with the group.
Helena nodded, gaining a boost of confidence from their words. "Alright, I can do this." She turns to Wattson who's waiting for her answer. "Wattson, I accept your challenge."
"Excellent! You'll find that I'm no pushover during a Pokemon Battle." Wattson laughs, walking to the other side of the Battlefield.
Helena made her way over to the other end of the Battlefield while the others heads for the stands. "You can do it, Helena!" Flannery cheered while going up the stairs.
"Just keep cool and do what you believe is right!" Wallace cheered as well, believing in his friend.
Helena waves at her friends, thanking them for their support. She took a deep breath and faced the Gym Leader. "I'm ready,"
Wattson nodded as his Assistant took the referee's stand. "I'll be the referee residing this Battle," He raised both flags, red for the Challenger and green for the Gym Leader. "This will be a two-on-two match, either side may switch. Once one side's Pokemon cannot battle, the victor will be decided."
Wattson nodded, agreeing with the terms of the battle. "Do you agree with the terms, Helena?" He asked the young trainer.
"Yes, Mr. Wattson. I'm ready to battle," Helena agreed, taking out her Pokeball.
"Will both Challengers please bring out your Pokemon!" The Referee announced.
Wattson took out his Pokeball, "Alright, Magnemite let's send some sparks!" He tosses his Pokeball onto the field, releasing a metallic eye with two magnets on his sides.
"Magnemite," The Electric/Steel-type Pokemon cried,
Helena blinks, seeing the Duel-type Pokemon on the field. "Magnemite, a Duel-type Pokemon." She commented, looking at her Pokeball. 'If Mr. Weasley was here, he will go mad when he lay eyes on a living Magnet that generates Electricity.' She smiles, reeling in her arm,
"Alright, Dratini the lights are on you!" Helena tosses her Pokeball, releasing the Dragon-type Pokemon.
Dratini appeared on the Battlefield, she cries and was ready to battle.
Wattson lets out a laugh, seeing the Dragon Pokemon. "My, what an adorable Pokemon! But can it stand against my friend?"
"There's only one way to find out," Helena smirks in response.
The Referee raises his flags, "Battle Begin!"

Helena/ Dratini vs Wattson/ Magnemite
Helena held out her hand, going in for the first move. "Alright, Dratini let's start with a Dragon Tail!" She ordered, going on the offensive.
"Going straight in, an interesting move she made," Wallace observes her orders.
Dratini's tail glowed a green hue and dashed over to the opponent's Pokemon.
Wattson smiles, "Iron Defense, let's go!" He ordered his Partner.
"Magnemite," Magnemite's body turned into a metallic color, taking in the damage from Dragon Tail.
Dratini landed, and both she and Helena saw the little damage they did on the Duel-type. "Not even enough damage," Helena ponders out loud. "Alright, go in with another Dragon Tail! This time, a strong one like we practice!" She wanted to test the waters on how much damage she can make.
Dratini cried once more, her tail glowed a green hue, and leaps forward.
"Magnemite, Iron Defense!" Wattson order, like before the Duel-type's body took on a metallic coat.
Dratini's Dragon Tail came from above, slamming Magnemite to the ground. "Magnemite!"
The Duel-type's body made a crater on the ground but also took little damage from it.
Steven frowns, seeing Wattson's Magnemite. "Not even a scratch," Flannery commented.
"Iron Defense is a Steel-type move that increases defense within two stages," Steven said, seeing that it was a bulky move. "Helena's Dratini needs to have a powerful move to even land a scratch."
Brawly shivers, "Yikes, that's very impressive."
"Magnemite, Discharge!" Wattson cried.
The Magnets on Magnemite's sides began to spark electricity before spinning around to generate more. "Magne…mite!" Soon it releases his Discharge at Dratini.
Helena swipes her arm to the side, "Dratini, use Dragon Dance!" She ordered.
Dratini jumps up, spinning in the air as her body began to release a red and purple aura. The Discharge hits her, but it was dispelled with Dragon Dance still active.
Brawly stood on his seat, seeing a creative move. "What an awesome play!" He cheered,
"That's Ellie for you, creative with any moves." Roxanne smiles, remembering how she battles Kirlia with Corsola.
"AHAHAHAHA! Now that's interesting, you're sure creative!" Wattson chuckled, liking this girl's fire.
Helena smiles, "Dratini's a natural dancer, why not use that in a battle." She said confidently. 'Now with her speed and attack raised, Dratini's faster to dodge attacks.' The former Witch thought.
"Alright Magnemite, let's show her how we do it in this Gym," Wattson shouted, feeling pumped up. "Use Zap Cannon!"
"Magnemite!" The Magnet Pokemon began to generate electricity once again, in a quick response it releases a yellow beam.
Helena looks at Dratini, nodding for her to take over.
Dratini swiftly dodges the Zap Cannon coming at her. "WHAT!?" Wattson was shocked, seeing the Dragon-type dodge the attack without Helena's command.
"Magnemite!?" The Duel-type was shocked as well, seeing how much speed the opponent has.
"Alright now's our chance! Breaking Swipe!" Helena ordered.
Dratini cried, using her speed to get in close, her tail glowed a purple hue and slammed Magnemite back. "MAGNEMITE!" The Magnet Pokemon cried,
"HA! Helena broke through Iron Defense!" Flannery cheered, getting up with excitement.
Wattson steps forward, seeing the damage his Partner took. "Magnemite, are you alright?" He asked.
"M-Magnemite," Magnemite nodded, not giving in just yet.
"That's my Magnemite, alright let's give them a shock of their lives," Wattson raised his hands, "Make the sky roar, Thunderbolt!" He ordered.
Magnemite generated more electricity than before, it points its Magnets at Dratini. "Magnemite!" A bolt of electricity hurls over to Dratini.
Dratini tried to dodge the attack but wasn't fast enough. She cried, feeling the electric shock. "Dratini!" Helena cried, seeing her Pokemon getting electrocuted. The attack ceased, and Dratini was hanging on by a thread.
"This is bad, one hit by one attack would finish Dratini off," Roxanne said, seeing the condition of the Dragon Pokemon.
Steven leans forward, seeing that Helena's unsure what to do. "Come on Helena, you can do it."
Helena gritted her teeth, unsure how to counter it. A small feeling came to her, unsure what it was.
Dratini looks back at her Partner, nodding for her to go with her gut. "Alright," Helena held out her hand, "Dratini, use Dragon Pulse!"
The Dragon Pokemon raised her head, building up the attack. "We're not going to let you finish! Magnemite, Thunderbolt once more!" Wattson ordered.
Magnemite began to charge the attack, electricity began to build up.
Both Pokemon charged their attacks, ready to release them. "Go!" Both trainers cried.
The Duel-type released its Thunderbolt and Dratini released her Dragon Pulse.
The two attacks collide, neither wavering from the other. "Keep going, Dratini! I know you can do it!" Dratini cried, releasing more of her power.
"Keep at it Magnemite! Show who's boss!" Wattson cried, excitement filled his very core.
"Magnemite." The Magnet Pokemon cried, giving it all.
Soon the Dragon Pulse began to change color, instead of a multicolored attack it turned white before both exploded.
Helena and Wattson covered their eyes from the smoke generated by the two. On the field were their Pokemon, fainted after that attack. "Dratini, no!" The former Witch exclaims,
"Magnemite!" Wattson exclaims, seeing his Partner down for the count.
The Referee raises both of his flags, "Both Pokemon are unable to battle, the first round is a tie!" He announces.
Flannery and Brawly sat back down, seeing the outcome of the first round. "Bummer, it's a tie." The sky-blue-haired trainer sighs,
"Helena and Dratini did their best in that Battle." Flannery smiles sadly, "I was so certain she could win," The heir to the Lavaridge Gym commented.
"The two have one Pokemon left, but I have to admit that Dragon Pulse was strong. " Roxanne said, impressed by the powerful move from the Dragon Pokemon. "Could Dratini do that?"
Wallace nodded, "Whatever that Dragon Pulse was, it looks like it's unperfected but strong if trained enough." The Champion stated,
The steel-blue-haired boy nodded, seeing the odd Dragon Pulse. He looks at Helena who took out Dratini's Pokeball. "Helena's about to send in Kirlia, Wattson won't back down even if the other battle was a draw." Steven smiles, having faith Helena can prevail.
"That's one impressive Dragon Pulse, Helena! In all my life I've never seen such a powerful move." The Mauville City Gym Leader compliments on how powerful Helena's Dratini is. "You must've trained her well, Magnemite return." A red beam heads over to the feinted Magnet Pokemon, returning to it's Pokeball.
Helena smiles, "Dratini, return." She calls back her Partner to her Pokeball. She looks down at it, grateful for taking her this far. "Thank you for your hard work, Dratini. Rest up,"
The former Witch looks at Wattson, hearing his compliments to her and her Pokemon. "Thank you, Wattson. Both me and my Pokemon trained hard to be on par with everyone else."
"That's something I like to hear," Wattson took out his second Pokeball and toss it in the air. "Alright, send sparks flying, Electrike!"
The Pokeball releases a green canine-like Pokemon, he has a large crest with a lightning bolt on both sides. "Elec!" Electrike cried,
Helena was now excited; the other Battle was fun but going into the next phase has something to it. "Kirlia, lights are on you!" She tosses her Partner's Pokeball, releasing her onto the field.
Kirlia spun around before taking her battle stance. "Kirlia!" She cried, ready to do her part.
Helena/ Kirlia vs Wattson/ Electrike
Helena held her hand out, "Kirlia, let's start off with a Future Sight!" She ordered her Partner.
"Kir…" Kirlia glowed white before releasing three blue orbs in the air. A portal appeared in the air, letting the orbs through before disappearing. "IA!"
Helena nodded, seeing their preparation was complete. "Great, now we stall."
The Duel-type nodded behind her, "Kirlia,"
Wattson smiles, knowing that move. "Future Sight, eh. Smart move, but will it hit in time?" He swipes his hand out, "Electrike let's end this battle quick, use Thunder Fang!"
The Lightning Pokemon isn't one to trifle with, the name has meaning. Electrike was fast like a bolt of lightning. "Electrike!" Electrike open's his mouth, his fangs began to spark as they elongated into yellow sparking fangs.
"Kirlia," Helena called out, in turn, Kirlia knew what she was trying to say.
Electrike came in, trying to bite the Emotion Pokemon. However, Kirlia was able to dodge his attack, "Kirl, Kirl, Kirl," Kirlia was keeping pace with Electrike's speed.
"Speedy, Kirlia was fast before but not this fast," Wallace stated, seeing the Duel-type like there was a multiple of them. "And Helena's command,"
"She didn't even say anything, just saying her name, and Kirlia instantly knew what she was thinking," Flannery added, smiling at the bond between the two. She stands up again, cheering on Helena. "GO FOR IT, HELENA!" She cheered.
Brawly stood up as well, feeling pumped up again. "SHOW WATTSON WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF!" He cheered.
Wattson grins, only faced this kind of speed once. He looks at Steven, smiling at this young girl. "We're not going to back down, Electrike! Iron tail, let's go!" He ordered.
Electrike's small tail took on a metallic color as he dashed over to Kirlia. "Elec!"
Helena smiles, "Kirlia, let's throw him off his path. Disarming Voice!" She held out her hand.
"Kir…ILA!" A pink soundwave with hearts echoes from Kirlia's mouth. The cry shook the Electric-type off-balanced from his pursuit.
"Electrike, no!" The middle-aged man was stunned by the use of Disarming Voice. He chuckled at the creative strategy Helena was showing, he saw his Partner land on the ground.
Electrike was disoriented by the use of Disarming Voice, however, he shook it off. "Electrike!" He roars, still able to fight.
Wattson steps forward, "You're not tired? Then great, use Thunderbolt to finish this off!"
Helena smiles, seeing it's time. "Now we're finished,"
"Elec-" Suddenly two portals open above Electrike. Both Wattson and Electrike were startled by the appearance of Future Sight. Then the orbs just released moments ago were released at Electrike.
"ELECTRIKE!" The Electric-type Pokemon was bombarded by the orbs, taking on massive damage.
"It's the Future Sight!" Roxanne gasps, seeing the move again.
"Helena must be stalling for the moment Future Sight's been activated!" Steven exclaims, impressed by the strategy Helena made.
Wattson's mouth gaped open, he saw that his Partner took immense damage. "Now that's one strong Future Sight,"
"E-Electrike," Electrike struggles to get up, leaving him open for one last attack.
Helena smirks, seeing the opening. "Kirlia, finish Electric off with Psyshock!"
Kirlia opens her arms, tiny purple stones floating around her. "Kirlia!" She released the stones at the Lightning Pokemon, a dust cloud formed where he stood.
Wattson and Electrike didn't have enough time to react. From the Future Sight then the quick Psyshock, things are looking bleak for the Gym Leader. The dust cloud disappeared, revealing his fainted Pokemon.
"Elec…trike…." (End song)
The referee raised the green flag at Helena, "Electrike is unable to battle, the victor goes to Kirlia and Helena!" He announces,
Helena smiles brightly, jumping at her first victory outside from the simulations at school. "We did it! Our first victory in an actual Pokemon Battle, Kirlia!" She gleefully cheered.
Wattson smiles, walking over to his Electrike and petting him. Electrike got up and looked at his trainer and apologizes for failing. "You've done well my friend. There's no shame in losing like I always say." He petted him some more.
Helena ran up to Kirlia, picking her up and hugging her. "Kirlia! Kirlia!" The Emotion Pokemon cheered, filling up with pride.
"You and Dratini did great. I'm proud of both of you!" Helena said, before turning around were her friends joined up with her.
"Great job, Helena. I have to say, your Battle was spectacular!" Wallace walked over to her with everyone.
Flannery ran up to her, hugging her tight. "THAT WAS AN AWESOME BATTLE! I NEVER KNEW YOU CAN BATTLE LIKE THAT!" She exclaims, impressed by her Battle style.
Brawly grins widely, still all riled up from witnessing an exciting match. "Helena, that was a gnarly Battle! If you were a part of the Gym Challenge, then you could easily wipe out each Gym!" He compliments her on her victory.
Helena giggled, seeing that everyone was impressed with her match. "Thank you, but you should give the credit to my Pokemon." She looks down at her Partner and her other Partner's Pokeball. "They were the ones who battle for me."
Roxanne nodded, "Of course, those two worked hard out there." She said,
"Seems all that training in the simulations paid off." Steven smiles, happy that she was able to use the training she's been practicing at school.
"Supporting each other is the best thing you can do for a friend," The Mauville City Gym Leader said, walking over to the group of friends. "In order to accomplish our goals, we need to support and work as one. That's how the entire World spins, through friendship."
"Another inspirational word from our dear friend, Wattson." Wallace smiles, appreciating his wisdom for them. "Thank you," He dramatically bows to him.
Wattson laughs, not getting enough of the teal-haired Champion's personality. "Never change, Wallace!" He chuckled before looking at Helena, the victor of his Challenge. "Helena, I've battled so many trainers in my time as a Gym Leader and you must be one of the unique ones. Like a certain one who beat me a few months back." He smiles at Steven.
Steven scratches the back of his head, "Well, both me and my Pokemon put a lot of effort into our Battle then." He modestly said.
"And yet you won with the Type Advantage, Steven." Flannery placed her hand on her side, "To me, that was an easy match,"
The steel-haired boy shrugs, accepting what Flannery said. "Eh, Wattson is strong in his own way," Steven stated,
"Speaking of matches, please take out your Rotom Phone Helena." Wattson took out his yellow Rotom Phone and hold it out with a smile.
Helena blinks, putting down Kirlia to the floor and taking out her pink Rotom Phone. "Alright," She obliges to his request.
Wattson smiles, opening an app shaped as a floppy disk. "Tap on the app shaped like a floppy disk." He instructed her, watching her do so. "I'll share with you TM24 from my Rotom Phone as a reward for your victory."
"TM…24?" Helena blinks, unfamiliar with the term.
"It's a Technical Machine that contains Thunderbolt, usually I award trainers with a Gym Badge." The middle-aged man trails off, getting a good look at her. "But I got a feeling that you're not going to challenge the Pokemon League," Wattson assumes,
Helena nodded, "That's right, my goal is to learn more about Pokemon. Maybe further down I might travel to other Regions to learn the Pokemon over there." The black-haired trainer commented as Wattson shared the TM with her.
"Now that's some goal you got there, Helena." The Mauville City Gym Leader said, having faith that she would achieve her goals. "Know that I'll be rooting for your goals to be achieved. Each of your goals,"
Roxanne smiles, seeing the middle-aged man giving his support to the group. "Thank you, Wattson for your support."
"Well, we old people like me do support young people's dreams." Wattson smiles, seeing the young trainers full of potential in the future. "We pave the way for you all, to be prepared and pass down what you learn to the next generation."
Everyone nodded, and soon Flannery's Rotom Phone rang indicating the time. "Oh! The train, it'll be leaving soon!" The red-haired girl informed the group of the time.
"GAH! REALLY?' Wallace panicked,
"We better get going before we miss the train! I'm going to heal my Pokemon on the train." Helena exclaims, also in a panic,
"If we're going to make it, Helena," Brawly commented.
She looked at Kirlia and took out her Pokeball. "Sorry Kirlia, I need you to be in your Pokeball if we're going to catch the train."
"Kirlia," Kirlia understands, allowing her Partner to return her back to the Pokeball.
Steven looks at Wattson, giving an apologetic look. "Sorry to make it short, but we have a train to catch." The steel-blue-haired boy apologizes to the Gym Leader.
Wattson waved his hand, "No worries, go and catch that train." He ushers them to leave before they miss the train to Lavaridge Town.
"Thank you, Wattson," Everyone rushed out of the Gym and headed to the train station, where they made it in time.
