Ch 27 The Hoenn Grand Festival Opening

The day has finally arrived, the day of the Opening of the Hoenn Grand Festival. The people of Sootoplis were heading to the amphitheater, excited about the anticipated event. The works have placed a machine dome over the top of the ancient structure to add effects for their performers.

Helena was with her friends, standing before the entrance. "This crowd is bigger than the one at the Sootoplis Museum," The black-haired trainer stated,

"Well, Pokemon Contests are one of the most well-known events around the World," Wallace stated, holding onto a bag filled with the items he needs. For his Performance. "It's an exciting event filled with art and surprises,"

"Is that why you have a bag with you?" Flannery asked, looking at the rather large bag the teal-haired Champion has on him.

Brawly was curious why he has a bag that large on him. "Quick question, Wally. Why do you have a big bag on you in the first place?" The sky-blue-haired trainer asked his friend.

The Champion smiles, adjusting his bag on his back. "My Mother gave me new clothes for this day," Wallace explains to his friends, "After all, what's a Pokemon Contest without the Coordinator dressing themselves up,"

"That's nice Wallace, speaking of parents. Is your family going to be in the audience?" Roxanne asked the first-time Coordinator.

Wallace nodded, "Yes, they're going to be there. I'm sure they are very proud of me for doing this, (Among other things…)" He chuckles, remembering when he won the title of Champion, and told them.

"What was that?" Steven asked, hearing the last part of his sentence under his breath.

The teal-haired Champion spun around, facing the amphitheater. "Oh nothing, just some random nonsense I'm just spewing." Wallace started to walk away before anyone could ask him another question. "Welp, I need to get ready. Wish me luck everyone!"

"Um, yeah. Good luck Wally." Helena wished the Champion luck on his first Contest. She turns back to her friends, wondering what to do for the next thirty minutes. However when she was about to say something she noticed a certain teal-haired girl rushing toward them.

"Ah,"

"Steven!" The girl tackled Steven from behind,

Steven grunted, feeling Wallace's Sister's weight on him. "Gah, Maya." His Steel-blue eyes looked at the young schoolgirl hugging him tightly.

Maya looks at Steven, giggling that she got him in her thrall. "Hello, Steven. Are you here to see my Brother's performance?" She asked.

"Y-Yeah, we're here to support Wallace," Steven motions to his friends standing behind him.

Flannery waves at Wallace's Sister, having an annoyed expression on her face. "Yo,"

The teal-haired girl gave a blank expression at Steven's friends. She turns back to Steven, grabbing his arm. "Hey, Stevie, why don't you sit with me during the Contest?" Maya offered, wanting him to be with her and only her.

"Sorry, Maya but we already got reserve seats for the five of us," Helena informed the young schoolgirl. "I'm sure you and your family have some seats reserved just for you guys." She smiles, receiving a scornful look from her.

"Mmm…Stevie, what do you think of it?" Maya looks at Steven, fluttering her eyes.

Steven felt uncomfortable, he turns to Helena and his friends whom he already decided. "Um, Maya, I appreciate your offer, but I already have a seat."

Maya frowns, seeing that Steven refused her offer. "Stevie, ple-"

"Maya, there you are." A young woman similar to Maya but older.

She has a lighter shade of teal hair; she wore simple jeans and a blouse. In her arms was a toddler girl with teal hair. "We were looking all over for you," The young woman turned to Helena and the others,

"Ah, Steven, everyone, it's so nice to see you again." The woman greeted his little Brother's friends.

"Cristina, the last time we saw each other was a few months ago." Roxanne greeted Wallace's Older Sister.

Cristina chuckles, seeing Wallace's friends hasn't changed in the few months they'd seen each other. " Yes, it has been a while, oh…there, there Lisia." She comforts her Daughter's fussing.

Helena was in awe of the Toddler around Four, finding her adorable. The former Witch paused, seeing Cristina smiling at her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"

The teal-haired woman chuckled, "No worries, I completely understand how you feel." Cristina adjusts her Daughter on her waists. "Lisia is a cute one, she got it from me." She smiles.

Lisia blinks, looking at her Uncle's friends before nuzzling into her Mother. "Mmm..."

"Do mind her, she's quite talkative to the people she knows but shy around those she doesn't." Cristina apologizes for her Daughter's shyness.

Maya sighs, getting closer to Steven. "Babies are so cute, someday I want to have one…" she looks at the Steel-blue haired boy.

Steven slips his hands from Maya's clutches. He gave a nervous chuckle at Maya's comment. "Y-Yeah, one day." He looks at Helena, obviously not getting what he means.

"Maya, Mom and Dad sent me to find you," Cristina informed her Sister, catching Steven's unpleasant predicament. "They're already inside at our seats." She stated.

"W-What about Stevie, Cristina? His family and ours are close-"

"Steven already got his seat with everyone else," Cristina replied at her Sister's comment. "Now come on, the opening ceremony is about to start," She looks at her younger Brother's friends and smiles,

"You better get going to everyone, the Grand Festival is about to start soon." The teal-haired woman informed the group. She looks down at her Daughter, "Say bye-bye Lisia,"

The toddler looks over at the young trainers and shyly at them. She and her family heads inside the amphitheater to see her Uncle's performance.

Helena looks at Steven as Wallace's Sister walks off to the theater.

Roxanne cleared her throat gaining the two's attention. "Well then, that was something unexpected," The brunette steps in front of everyone. "In any case, let's head inside. I don't want to miss the opening ceremony."

"Same, I've never been to Contest before." Brawly walks forward, turning to his friends. "Especially when our Wally is performing on stage."

Flannery pushes Steven and Helena forward whereas the other two lead them to the amphitheater. "Enough standing around already, we're wasting time as we speak!" The red-haired girl shouted, "By now they already started with the introductions!"

"Alright, alright, Flannery. You don't need to push!" Steven shouted, almost tripping over his feet.

Helena turns her head back to her friend. "We can walk ourselves, Flannery."

The group entered the amphitheater where the sittings were already filled with people. There were only a few sites for reserve people of the Coordinators.

They found their seats and sat down, Brawly sat next to Flannery who sat next to Roxanne. Helena sat next to the brunette and Steven sat next to her.

Steven looks at her, seeing the awe she has in her emerald eyes. "Excited, Helena?"

Helena has seen many Coordinators in-training back at the Trainer School. Each showed their routine to the student body, but it was a simple showcase. Being in an amphitheater like the one they were in, was a different experience.

"Yeah, it's different when it comes to the real contest." Helena then has a thought in her mind, she reaches for her Pokeballs and took one off the latch, "Kirlia,"

Kirlia was released on her lap, looking up at her Partner curiously. "Kirlia?"

Helena smiles at the Duel-type, "Kirlia, let's give Wallace our support."

"Kirlia!" Kirlia agreed, looking forward as the lights dimmed on the dome.

"It's starting," Roxanne informed her friends, a woman with bushy hazel hair wearing a pink dress and a yellow tailcoat.

The spotlight flashed over to the woman, indicating the start of the Sootoplis City Pokemon Contest.

"Greetings people and trainers of all ages. It's the time of year once again to experience a well-known event," Fireworks burst behind the woman and lit the stage she was on. "It's the Hoenn Grand Festival !"

Everyone cheered as the lights from the dome turned on, "We're coming to you live right here in the Sootoplis City Amphitheater for the Grand Opening. Coordinators around the Region and the World gather here to win the Sootoplis City Ribbon." She cheered, "With this Ribbon and four others will have the right to compete in the Grand Festival!"

An image of a golden metal with a teal and white ribbon under it appears on the screen. "Allow me to introduce our judges," The woman held out her hand to the curtain and it slowly opened revealing three people.

A forty-year-old man in a red tuxedo walks forward, waving to the crowd. "Head of the Contest committee and director of the Pokemon Contests, Mr. Contesta!"

"It's a pleasure in welcoming the annual event once again," Mr. Contesta greeted everyone in the audience.

The woman turns to the man standing next to the director. "Next is the head of the Pokemon Fan Club, Mr. Sukizo!"

A plump man with his eyes closed and wearing black tuxedo steps forward. "I'm looking forward to seeing a remarkable performance between Coordinator and Pokemon." He smiles.

"Next is the Gym Leader of the Sootoplis Gym and retired Coordinator, Juan!" The woman introduced Juan next.

Juan steps forward, smiling at the audience. "I am honored to be a part of every young Coordinator who will be taking part in this momentous event." The Gym Leader stated, waving at the audience.

The hazel-haired woman steps forward once again, holding the mic in her hand. "Now, it seems I didn't introduce myself." She placed her hand on her chest proudly, "I am your hostess and guide to Pokemon Contests and master of ceremonies, Vivian!"

The crowd cheered, welcoming the hostess and judges.

"This is exciting," Helena smiles, getting pumped up from just the introduction.

"Kirlia!" Kirlia agreed with her trainer,

"I know what you mean, Ellie," Roxanne added, always enjoying these types of competitions.

Vivian looks at the audience as the judges leave the stage for the judges' table. "Now that introductions are out of the way, allow me to welcome a special guest with us today!" The Host announced,

Steven paused, "Does she mean-"

"The winner of the Hoenn Grand Festival in three years in a row, please welcome…Lydia Stone doing the opening ceremony!" Vivian steps out off the stage, allowing the lights to shine towards the curtains.

The curtains opened, revealing Lydia with her white hair tied in a ponytail and wearing a light blue dress and a silver tiara on her hair.

The audience cheered for the returning Coordinator,

Lydia looks up at the audience and smiles, she has two Capsuled Pokeballs in her hand ready to release her Partners. "Roserade! Mawile! The stage is yours!"

She tosses the Pokeballs in the air, releasing a combination of floral and pink ribbons. The ribbons gathered all the variety of flowers before disbursing in beautiful fireworks of flowers and ribbons.

Two Pokemon appeared in the center of the display, a green Pokemon with one red rose and one blue rose on each hand. "Roserade!" He cried out. The Grass/Poison-type has a feather around his head and a bow around his neck.

The next was a petite Pokemon with a large mouth-like ponytail. "Mawile!" The Steel/Fairy-type wore a flower crown on the stem of the mouth and a pink vest over her.

"What a simple and yet beautiful entrance! Nothing less than Hoenn's three-year Top Coordinator!" Vivian announced,

Both Pokemon landed gracefully before their trainer.

Lydia smiles, spinning on her heel, "Alright, Roserade, Mawile, let's show another spectacular performance to everyone!" She announced, and her Pokemon agreed.

"Now, Mawile; Fairy Wind!" Lydia cried out.

"Maw!" Mawile leaps in the air, spinning around to generate a pink gust around her.

The white-haired woman held her hand towards her Roserade, "Now, use Petal Blizzard!"

Roserade smiles twirling over to the center and raising his hands. "Rose…rade!" He continued spinning as a tornado of red and blue flowers burst from the center.

Both moves clashed with each other, creating a whirlwind of Magical wind and color petals. The combination of the moves dazzled the entire audience. Their eyes were drawn by the moves.

Roserade and Mawile leap out of their moves, smiling at the crowd. "Rose!"

"Mawile!"

"What a mystical opening move by the legend!" Vivian announced,

Mr. Contesta nodded, agreeing with the master of ceremonies. "Yes, a combination of nature and a fairytale; truly a beautiful sight."

"Remarkable," Mr. Sukizo commented with a smile.

"Such vibrance and an eyecatcher, nothing less from a top Coordinator." Juan smiles at his long-time friend.

Lydia held her arms up dramatically, "Roserade Sunny Day and Mawile, Dark Pulse!" She ordered.

Roserade landed near the judges' table before rushing back in. "Roserade!" He spun in mid-air before landing on the other end of the stage.

Mawile landed near Vivian and turned her back, the mouth opened wide and builds up "Maw…ile!" Mawile released the dark Pulse, hurling toward the center of the stage.

"Rose…rade!" Roserade pushes out his arms, releasing a bright beam toward the center of the stage.

The two met and collided with each other causing a chain reaction. The Sunny Day became multiple stars as the Dark Pulse rings orbited around them.

The crowd was even more impressed than the opening. Vivian smiles, holding the mic to her mouth. "Another beautiful display, it's like a planetarium has entered the amphitheater!"

"Let's go out with a bang! Mawile use Brutal Swing on Roserade!" Lydia cried,

"What an unexpected play!" Vivian cried, watching as the Duel-type's mouth began to take a blackish-red hue.

Roserade rushed forward, leaping over to his friend,

Mawile turned around allowing the Bouquet Pokemon to land in her mouth. "Mawile!" The Deceiver Pokemon began to spin her mouth causing Roserade to hold his balance.

"Now!" Mawile launched Roserade in the air, doing some backflips. "Roserade, Dazzling Gleam!"

Roserade changed his position and twirled in the air. His body began before disbursing a radiant light that showed the colors of a rainbow. The Dazzling Gleam spun along with Roserade creating a spiraling spiral with him in the center. The previous combo merges with the new one, creating a spiraling galaxy.

"Amazing, it's like a spiraling galaxy with Roserade as the sun!" Vivian announced, amazed by the performance.

The Bouquet Pokemon ceased his move, allowing the Dazzling Gleam and the other combo to disburse. He landed next to Mawile with a smile.

Lydia appeared suddenly behind her Pokemon and spread out her arms. Her face had a charming expression causing the crow to go wild.

"Another spectacular performance from one of the Top Coordinator," The hazel-haired woman stated, impressed by the performance. "Let's hear what the judges have to say about that?"

Mr. Contesta smiles, as usual, finding the whole performance wonderful. "Such majesty and wonder. You can see the dedication both the trainer and Pokemon put into their performance."

Mr. Sukizo agreed with his fellow judge, "Mrs. Stone's performance is of course, remarkable." He smiled.

Juan stood up, amazed by yet another performance from his friend. "Outstanding, absolutely outstanding," He placed his hand over his chest and smiled, "Each move has shown the aspects of both your Pokemon's abilities and their personality. An outstanding performance indeed."

Lydia smiles at the judges, happy to impress them. "I'm glad I was able to impress you once more,"

"Roserade," Roserade nodded, looking at the Duel-type next to him.

Mawile smiles, accepting the judges' praises to them. "Maw…" (End song)

Back in the audience Helena and the others were awestruck by Steven's Mother's performance. That was the first time they'd seen a real professional Coordinator performing with intricate moves,

"Woah, your Mother is really rad, Steven!" Brawly commented, impressed by her.

"Gotta admit, it felt like we were watching a Sy-fi movie at the finale there," Flannery smirks, leaning back in her chair. "Can't wait for what Wally's going to dish out,"

Roxanne giggles, curious as well. "Knowing Wallace, he won't let the other performances get to him." The brunette commented,

Helena smiles, holding Kirlia in her lap. "That was fun to see, I can't wait for what the others will bring." She looks at her Partner, agreeing with that statement.

"Kirlia, Kirl!" The Emotions Pokemon commented, looking up at the black-haired girl.

"For someone who put Contest Performance on hold, your Mother didn't lose her touch, Steven." Helena looks over to the young trainer next to her.

Steven appreciates Helena's kind words to his Mother. "Mother had a lot on her plate by the time she had me. She didn't really have much time participating in them with being a Mother." He smiles softly while looking at her waving at the stage with her Pokemon. "Father tried his best to convince her to return to being a Coordinator. But she said 'If I return to performing, then who will be the one who supports you two? You two are more important than my performance.''" He resaid what he heard from his Mother to his Father when he was five.

"Mother always takes her duties as Wife and Mother seriously," Steven explains, "I'm glad she has gotten the time to enjoy what she loves when she was younger." He smiles.

Helena smiles at how loving Steven is to his parents. She was about to comment when Vivian came back on the speaker.

"What an honor it is to have one of Hoenn's Top Coordinator returning once again for the Opening Ceremony," The hazel-haired Hostess announced, she look back at the audience as Lydia and her Pokemon left the stage to the judges' table. "And it's another honor to have her join us in judging the performances," Vivian announced as Lydia waved while heading to the table next to Juan.

"Now allow me to explain how this Contest works for newcomers." The Hostess stated, "Each Coordinator for the first two Contests will use only one Pokemon each, in both the appealing round and the battle round. Only eight out of the many Coordinators will be able to move on to the second round."

In the dressing room; many Coordinators were getting ready to go on stage. Some were dressed, while others were assisting their Pokemon with their clothes,

A man wearing a black t-shirt and a headset entered the room. "Number One, please head to the stage." He called for the first Coordinator.

"Hai!" A brunette and her Squirtle rushed out of the door.

At the other end of the dressing room, Wallace was wearing white pants, shoes, and a blue shirt with four-star decorations hanging down the sleeves and silver shoulder plating on each shoulder.

He adjust his hat in the mirror and was ready to head on stage. "I'm ready," Wallace looks down at his Marshtomp, adjusting the collar of his vest. "Marshtomp, let me help you there,"

"Marsh," Marshtomp allowed his Parter to assist him, fixing his collar.

The teal-haired Champion finished by adjusting his Partner's collar. "There, how's that, Marshtomp?" Wallace asked the Mud Fish Pokemon.

Marshtomp spun around joyfully, appreciating his Partner's help. "Marshtomp!"

"Hey," Wallace turned around, hearing someone calling him. There was another Coordinator with violet hair and violet eyes.

The young trainer wore a purple shirt and a black trench coat. He has dark grey pants and black boots with violet laces. "Yes?" Wallace asked the trainer.

"Aren't you the Champion of the Hoenn Region?" The violet-haired trainer asked,

Wallace's eyes widen, hearing that this trainer recognized him easily. He stood up calmly and faced him. "What of it?"

The trainer smirks before walking off from Wallace,

The Champion continued staring at the trainer, unsure of what just happened.
