AN: I decided that Unova will be a bit longer than originally planned which follows the game. Consider this as a new Arc or Season 2 within the story. I want Helena and N to develop a relationship even if they don't know they are siblings (That will be when Hermione and Sirius come).
Ch 49 Abilities Users
Glimwood Tangle
"Are you sure we're not lost, Sonia?" Helena asked the orange-haired trainer, walking on the grassy path of Glimwood Tangle. "This looks exactly the same path we've taken."
Glimwood Tangle is a unique environment with a highly dense forest. The forest itself is like something ripped from a fairytale book. Lare neon-colored mushrooms everywhere you look, tree roots uprooting the ground, and a light fog covering the ground.
However the most noticeable was the abundance of Fairy and Psychic-type Pokemon living in the area.
Sonia turned around as her red Rotom Phone floated next to her head. "I'm sure, Helena. My Rotom Phone's directory is never wrong." She said confidently.
Nessa frowns, looking at her friend. "Are you sure? The last time we trusted we were looking for the Budew Drop Inn only to have our circle back to Motostoke Station." The dark-haired trainer commented.
"How about you don't tell our new friend about that, Ness." Sonia glared at her friend for reminding her of their little mishap back then.
Helena giggled, seeing these two have a good friendship with each other. "This takes me back to when I was traveling with my friends in Hoenn." She commented, happy to be reminded of that time.
Nessa smiles at Helena, listening to her statement. "Then you must be familiar with the struggle of getting lost." She jokes with the black-haired trainer.
"You have no idea," Helena said, knowing what Nessa means. "Though it's nothing like walking in a dense forest. It's a valley for Steel-type Pokemon." She explains to the two girls.
"Yeesh, Steel-type Pokemon are very territorial," Nessa commented, having knowledge of them. "You're lucky that you were able to make your way out of there,"
Helena shook her hand from side to side, "Eh…more or less, Nessa."
Sonia turns around, walking backward as the Rotom Phone floated forward. "Then you don't need to worry about getting lost, Ellie! Cause we're heading to the right-eh?" The orange-haired girl turns back around, seeing the same boulder with tree roots growing on top of it and the same glowing pink mushrooms beside it.
Nessa and Helena gave Sonia a black stare. "So…what were you saying about heading in the right direction…Sonia?" The Water-type trainer asked her friend, knowing the 'Eh' means.
"U-Um, not to worry…heh," Sonia grabs her Rotom Phone and quickly recalibrates the navigation app. "Hey, don't act up on me this time you stupid app!" She hissed at the device.
Helena looks over to the dark-haired trainer, "Is this a common thing for Sonia's Rotom Phone?" She asked Nessa, "If so, I think she needs to update the software. So that's what my friend told me…"
Sonia turns to Helena, catching what she said. "IT DOESN'T NEED A SOFTWARE UPDATE! IT WAS WORKING JUST FINE A MOMENT AGO!" She whines, returning back to fixing the problem on her device.
The dark-haired girl sighed, shaking her head. "Even if Sonia's software is updated, I believe it's just Rotom playing his usual tricks again," Nessa explains, hearing Sonia cry in front of them.
Helena smiles before flinching at the sounds rustling from the bushes coming from beside them. "Um, did you girls hear that?"
"Hear-" Nessa jumped, hearing the rustling too. "Yeah, I definitely heard that." She commented. "It sounds like something is coming towards us."
The two girls huddled around Sonia, unsure of what was coming. Soon a pink blur hops out from the brush, shaking off the leaves from her fur.
The blur was a Pokemon, a white Unicorn with a small horn and pale pink and mint cotton candy color mane. She blinks at the trainers, curious about the three.
"I-it's just a Ponyta," Sonia commented, sighing in relief.
Nessa coos over the Psychic-type Pokemon before them. "Awe, it's so adorable. I'd always wanted to meet a Ponyta in person since I was young." The Water-type trainer said to the two.
Helena approached the Galarian Pokemon, finding it fascinating that there are two versions of this Pokemon. "I can't believe that there are variants of Pokemon living in different Regions." She brought out her Rotom Phone, putting it in front of Ponyta.
The Rotom Phone opened the Pokedex App, giving information about Ponyta.
-ZZZ- Ponyta, Galarian Form. The Unique Horn Pokemon, a Psychic-type. -ZZZ- The Pokedex App informed the girls.
-ZZZ- Its small horn hides a healing power. With a few rubs from this Pokémon's horn, any slight wound you have will be healed. -ZZZ-
"So the horn has some healing abilities," Helena commented, smiling at the Unicorn-like Pokemon.
Ponyta blinks at Helena before approaching the former Witch. She lets out a gleeful cry as she nuzzles against her legs.
Sonia smiles, chuckling at the sight. "Wow, I heard that Ponytas only come up to trainers when they sense their hearts are good." The orange-haired trainer commented on what the Psychic-type Pokemon was doing.
"Oh poo, you're lucky Helena. I guess Ponyta must sense you're a kind person." Nessa added, a bit jealous that Ponyta had taken a liking to their new friend.
"Really?" The black-haired trainer gently placed her hand on Ponyta's head and pets her. "Do you like me, Ponyta?" Helena asked the Psychic-type Pokemon before her.
The Unique Horn Pokemon cries cheerfully, prancing around the former Witch.
Nessa and Sonia smile at Ponyta prancing around their black-haired friend as she gave a joyful cry. "Ponyta is taking a liking to you Helena," The dark-haired girl commented, never seeing a Pokemon take a liking to someone like this before. "You know, you can capture her if you want."
"Wait, I don't want to take Ponyta away from her home. It doesn't feel right." Helena responded, trying to move away from Ponyta only to have her follow her.
"I don't know about that, Helena. Galarian Poyntas work much differently that the Kantonian ones." Sonia commented, seeing how prescient the Psychic-type is. "Once they found a trainer they like, it's hard to get rid of them."
Helena sighs, looking at Ponyta who was staring at her back with big eyes. Then a thought came to pass in her head, "Ponyta, do you really want to come with me?" She asked the Unique Horn Pokemon.
Ponyta gleefully answers, hopping in place.
"Before I capture you, do you mind if you can show us the way to Ballonlea Town?" Helena asked the Psychic-type Pokemon. "You see, my friends and I are lost trying to find the Town and we keep finding ourselves in the same place."
The Unique Horn Pokemon tilts her head, listening to the former Witch's plea. "If you could, that would be appreciated," Helena said kindly.
Ponyta nodded, prancing past both Nessa and Sonia. "Woah," Sonia steps back, almost tripping over her. She turned her head around and let out a cry.
"I think she said yes," Nessa said, seeing the Galarian Pokemon motioning to the path they just took a while ago. The dark-haired trainer looks over to Helena, curious about how she was able to convince Ponyta to help. "Hey, how were you able to get Ponyta to help like that?" She asked.
"Oh, I didn't mention this before?" Helena questions, feeling like she has told them. "Well, in any case, I'm in a way a Psychic and can somewhat talk to certain Pokemon. The reason why I'm heading to Ballonlea is that Opal has taken an interest in my abilities."
Sonia crossed her arms, hearing about these people. "That's impressive, I only heard about Psychics able to speak with Pokemon but I never met one before you." The orange-haired girl commented with a smile. "You're just full of surprises,"
"You can second that, Sonia." Nessa smiled before hearing the Galarian Ponyta crying for them to follow.
"Ponyta is calling for us, we better hurry." Helena and the two girls quickly followed where Ponyta's voice was coming from.
The three followed the Unique Horn Pokemon through the thick brush of Glimwood Tangle. They pass by many Pokemon living in the Forest, and after a while of following Ponyta through the brush, they arrive at a little town deep within Glimwood Forest.
Ponyta stops galloping, turning her head to the three trainers she was leading. She gave a small cry, telling them that they arrived.
Nessa walks forward, looking up at the wooden signpost. "Ah, we've made it!" She informed her friends behind her.
"Helena, I welcome you to the Town of Fairies," Sonia looks over to the former Witch,
Helena steps forward, her eyes gazing upwards at the town just a step away.
(Insert Ballonlea - Pokémon Sword and Shield OST)
The Town was literally what you describe what a Fairytale Town would look like in reality. The neon mushrooms that grew around the Forest grew alongside the Medieval-style buildings, creating a Wizarding World feeling.
However, what makes it different from the Wizarding World was the fact that the Pokemon Center is posted near the Town's entrance and the large purple-pink football stadium at the back of the Town with working electricity. "Ballonlea Town,"
"Here you can Challenge the Gym Leader Opal at the Ballonlea Gym for the Fairy Badge." Sonia motions to the Stadium with a pink and black butterfly image above the entrance.
"Wow, it's like stepping into a fairytale book," Helena commented as the group walked inside the Town.
Nessa nodded, taking a look around the little Town. "I know, I feel like we're in a Fairytale World." She commented before spotting a small boutique filled with the latest fashion trends. "Oh! There's a little boutique, I'm heading there for a moment girls." She dashed forward to the window, checking out the clothing. "Just go on without me to the Gym!"
"W-Wait, Nessa!" Sonia sighs, shaking her head at how easily the dark-haired girl gets distracted by clothing. She looks at Helena, seeing it will be only her and Ponyta who was heading to the Ballonlea Gym. "Sorry about Ness, she can be distracted with clothes."
"I kinda had a feeling this might happen," Helena commented. "Anyways, shall we head to the Gym, Sonia?" She asked her new trainer friend.
Sonia nodded, stepping forward before the black-haired girl. "It's this way, the Ballonlea Gym." She points to the Stadium with flashing lights that shine in the dark Forest.
The three went made their way to Ballonlea Gym, ready to meet with Opal. They approached the Gym where the doors slid open for a trainer leaving the Gym.
Just as the trainer walks past the three, his eyes darted over to the orange-haired girl.
"Hmm? Hello, Sonia, been a minute." Sonia and Helena look at the trainer who greeted them. The trainer wore a black hoodie with rubber spikes, a pink, white striped long-sleeved shirt underneath, black boots with spikes, and dark blue jeans with tears on the knees to his thigh.
He has baby blue eyes, a pale complexion, and his hair covers his left eye. It was black and white with little spikes. On his wrist was a white band with blue and red lines on the side and a symbol at the center.
"Piers? Wow, I didn't expect you to be here. I thought you were heading back to Spikemuth after the Pokemon League." Sonia commented, happy to see a familiar face.
The young trainer nodded to Sonia's statement. "Yeah, same here." Piers turns his attention to the black-haired girl standing next to a Galarian Ponyta. "Got yourself a new friend, Sonia?" He asked.
Sonia smiles, stepping to the side and introducing her new friend to her other one. "Piers, this is Helena Potter, she's the Apprentice of one of my Grandma's colleagues." She introduced her to the Dark-type trainer. "She's visiting Galar for a while,"
"Helena, this is Piers. He was a Gym Challenger I met during my journey to the Pokemon League." Sonia turns to the black-haired trainer. "He was this close to becoming Champion only to be defeated by Leon, (our new Champion) in the last match of the Qualifying Rounds."
"It's nice to meet you, Piers." Helena greeted the Dark-type trainer before her. "It's impressive that you were able to make it to the last rounds in the Qualifying Rounds."
Piers scoffs, looking away from the former Witch's gaze. "Well, I didn't do that great." He stated to Helena. "If I was seconds away to defeat his Charizard, then I would've been in the Preliminary Rounds."'
Helena could tell that the black and white-haired trainer regretted his action in the Pokemon League. She approached Piers, attempting to make him feel better, "Hey, don't be down on yourself, Piers." She said, gaining his attention. "Even if you didn't make it to the Qualifying Rounds, you did have fun participating in it right?"
"Yeah, what of it?" Piers asked Helena, curious about where she was heading.
"As long as both you and your Pokemon had fun, then it doesn't matter if you become Champion or not," Helena commented, smiling at him. "The real reward is the friends you made."
The young trainer blinks, hearing what Helena said to him. Piers looks down at his Pokeballs with his Partners inside of them, remembering the good times they had on his Journey,
Ponyta cried happily, seeing the pure-hearted nature of the trainer.
"Wow, that's actually good advice, Helena," Sonia commented, placing her hand on her chin. "Maybe I should use that sometimes…you don't mind if I take it, right?" She asked.
Helena shook her head, "Go for it, Sonia."
Piers lets out a small chuckle, looking at the black-haired trainer. "Gotta say, you're the most interesting trainer I've met, Helena." He commented before closing his eyes.
He opens them, smiling at Helena for giving him that advice. "I think you just made me feel a bit better." Piers walks forward, waving his hand at the girls. "You have my thanks, see you around."
"Oh, right you too!" Helena turns around, bidding Piers farewell as he leaves Ballonlea. (End Song)
The two continued their way inside the Ballonlea Gym where a lively lobby, fit for a sports center, greeted them.
Trainers were gathered in the Lobby talking to their Pokemon or other trainers, much like the Gyms in the Hoenn Region.
"Wow, talk about a crowd," Helena commented on the crowded Lobby of the Ballonlea Gym. "I have never seen a Gym this crowded. The only place that was crowded like this was the Hoenn League." The former Witch added, looking around.
"You should see Wyndon Stadium during the Championship," Sonia commented, waving her hand at Helena. "It's like the entire population of Wyndon fit inside of the Stadium."
"Wyndon? That's the capital of Galar right?" Helena asked, taking note
Helena nodded, getting what Sonia was saying. "Say, are you going to catch Ponyta?" Sonia asked the former Witch.
"Oh, right." Helena kneels down to the Galarian Pokemon as she turns and faces her. "Ponyta, I'm going to ask again. Do you really want to come with me on my Journey?" She asked once more to the Unique Horn Pokemon.
Ponyta smiles, jumping in place in the form of an answer.
Sonia chuckles, seeing how determined Ponyta was to come with Helena. "Well, Ponyta's answer is still the same no matter how you ask her." She commented.
The black-haired trainer took out a Pokeball from her pocket. She offers it to Ponyta to welcome her to the team. "Then welcome to my team, Ponyta." Helena smiles.
Ponyta approached the Pokeball, gently pressing the button. A red beam went towards her and opened up then captured her.
The Pokeball shook in Helena's hand before the stars were released. Helena stood up, smiling that she had Ponyta join her team.
Hands clap behind them, "Well, that's one unique way to catch a Pokemon." Both Sonia and Helena look at whoever said those words.
Standing behind the girls was none other than the Gym Leader, Opal.
"Ms. McGonagall!" Sonia exclaims upon seeing the elderly Gym Leader, "It's good to see you again,"'
"My, my if it isn't Elizabeth's Granddaughter. How are you, Child?" Opal asked the orange-haired trainer next to Helena. "And how many times do I need to remind you? Call me Opal."
Sonia smiles at the Gym Leader appearing out of nowhere. "I'm doing good, Ms-I means Opal." She responded.
Opal looks around, noticing that someone was missing. "If memory serves me, then you have a friend with you." The Fairy-type Gym Leader commented, "The one who uses Water-types and has a fabulous style of clothing. Nessa, am I correct?"
"That's right Opal, um, she said she's going to meet us here later," Sonia informed the elderly woman of her friend's plan.
"She was checking some boutiques we've passed by," Helena added, "I'm guessing she'll be there for a while."
Opal smiles softly, hearing the trainer she faced before turning her attention back to the black-haired girl. "Helena, it's lovely to see you again." She greeted a Witch from her old World. "I'm happy you could make it, I do apologize if you had something to do with Professor Ceder."
Helena shook her head, "It's not a problem, Opal. Professor Ceder came to the Galar because he was called to assist with the energy Research from Chairman Rose."
"I see, I'm glad to hear that." Opal turns around, heading straight to the stadium. "Come, walk with me Helena and Sonia, dear? You can come too; we need a Referee." The old Gym Leader stated,
"Referee? For what?" Sonia asked the old Gym Leader as they headed to the Battlefield.
Opal grins at the girls, "This is a Pokemon Gym, what do you expect?" The old Gym Leader asked the orange-haired girl. "We're going to have a Pokemon Battle!"
"Eh?"
Helena stood on an enormous Battlefield with pink spotlights shining above them on the rims of the skyline. The Battlefield itself has two different shades of pink and a mint and purple circle at the center.
The Battlefield has a similar format as the ones in Hoenn, however, the skyline was large to accommodate the Dynamax Pokemon.
Both Helena and Opal entered the Battlefield, however, Sonia decided to wait for Nessa before entering herself.
"Helena," Helena turns to face Opal, hearing her call her name. "Our kind is different from the regular Psychics in the Pokemon World. By now you may realize that upon entering this World, you may not have your Wand." She said, walking beside her.
"That's right, I believe I dropped it when I fell through the hole to the ruins," Helena explains how she got here.
Opal chuckles, "Oh yes, the hole…I swear to Arceus whoever made that design is a real idiot." She cleared her throat, getting a bit off-topic. "In any case, even if you came with your Wand through the mirror, you can't use it due to the materials. Trust me, I tried."
"However our Magic Core still remains." The former Witch stated, stamping her umbrella on the ground. "By living in the Pokemon World long enough, your Magic Core evolves to accommodate the living arrangement we found ourselves in."
"The moment you enter the Pokemon World, our Magic Core starts to change."
Helena was surprised to hear that little tidbit from the old Gym Leader. "Really? Does that mean we can use Wandless Magic?" She asked, getting curious about the Witches in this World.
Opal nods, "Of course; each Magic Core evolves differently depending on the person. We call them Ability Users." She explains. "For me, I can either lower or power up a Pokemon status in Battle in simple questions for the opponent to answer."
"Wow,"
"Other examples are talking to Pokemon or developing Aura abilities stronger than the ones from here. Developing some Psychic Abilities or sensing where an Evolution Stone or Key and Mega Stones are in your case. Even some have multiple Abilities."
Opal explains further what the people from their World can do. "The common thing with these abilities is the same, it all depends on what the person's heart that your Abilities will show."
"I see, that's amazing"
"And you know what's amazing? The Children that were born from the Witches and Wizards. They vary and are different from the Parent, developing stronger Abilities than them." Opal continues with the explanation. "A fine example is the Gym Leader Sabrina in Kanto. I know for a fact that her Father was a Wizard who developed Psychic Abilities. Sabrina is a powerful Psychic and can communicate telepathically."
Helena was surprised how the Pokemon World could easily affect a Wizard and Witch's Magic Core to better fit their World. Even their Children can benefit from their change.
She looks at Opal who was making her way to the other side of the Battlefield. "Um, Opal why are we Battling?" Helena asked the Ability User.
Opal smiles, facing the young Ability User. "As a young Ability User, you have only touched the surface of what you can do." The old Gym Leader stated, prostrating her umbrella. "I'm here to help to discover what you can do, Helena Potter!"
