MUGEN Universe: Tournament of Champions.

With the plans of Yggdrasil to reset reality crumbling thanks to the efforts of Earth's greatest warriors, the gods sent a psychic signal to overpower Ikari Shinji's mind as he as sent to crush Akira at the Ice Cold Sphere.

"Prepare for launch," NERV's Commander Ikari Gendou said coldly, standing at the command bridge with his subordinates. "Shinji, are you ready?"

Gendou's only son, a young and scrawny boy with short black hair, sat inside the sleek, gigantic biomechanical machine, the first Evangelion Unit, wearing his plugsuit. He nodded slowly, his eyes dull. "Yes, Father..."

But as Evangelion 01 went up, it stopped, and Shinji took his hands to his head and yelled, "AAAAHHHHH!"

"Shinji, what happens!?" asked Katsuragi Misato's voice.

"There's been a psychic interference!" Ibuki Maya said. "The link between the pilot and the unit is being severed! Something else is taking over!"

Unit 01 swerves back down and starts destroying the very installations that created it. A blasphemous behemoth turned against its own masters to ensure the destruction of the human world.

Ikari Shinji in Evangelion Unit 01.

Origin: Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Ikari Shinji, the son of Ikari Gendou and his wife Yui, a top researcher who died in mysterious circumstances when Shinji was still only a child. Shinji was abandoned by his father shortly after Yui's demise, and sent to live with a negligent uncle.

Growing up depressed and unloved, Shinji was called back to Tokyo-3 by Gendou after hitting his 14th birthday, only to find himself forced to pilot Evangelion Unit 01, NERV's most powerful creation, in a fight against a kaiju NERV called 'an Angel'.

The stress of the responsabilities placed on him further wrecked Shinji's mind. He struck an uneasy friendship with fellow pilots Ayanami Rei and Soryu Asuka Langley, but they were relationships that still did little to stabilize him.

As the battles to defend Earth from the 'Angels' continued, Shinji was ignorant of the designs NERV and Gendou had for him and the other pilots...

Stage: NERV's Geofront, the Evangelion is going down a narrow vertical passage to reach Lilith, nailed to its cross, and the fighter must stop Unit 01 before it reaches it. The fight takes place in a long descent, a clock ticking away as you and the EVA go down together and you must attack its key bits.

Opening Poses and Lines:

The fighter is sent into the sublevels of NERV's Geofront, where they are drawn by the intense noise of Unit 01 on its rampage.

They reach the passageway Unit 01 is climbing down through, and a woman's voice calls out frantically from the speakers of the building.

"Quick! You must stop it before it goes all the way down! Or else the world is doomed!"

A voice is heard from inside the giant robot, crying over and over, desperately:

"I cannot run away, I cannot run away, I cannot run away!"

Heavy Moves:

Progressive Knife: Unit 01 pulls out a big knife, fitting the size of the Evangelion itself, and pierces ahead with it.

Grab and Squeeze: Unit 01 puts his hand around the adversary and squeezes strongly, trying to pulverize it. The move is a homage of what Shinji had to do to Nagisa Kaworu, also known as Tabris the final Angel, towards the end of the Shin Seiki Evangelion television series, an event that all but destroyed Shinji psychologically.

Berserker Bite: Unit 01 grabs the opponent and lowers its head towards them. Then it bites down on their head and neck. If successful, the attack takes 65% of a full energy bar.

High Toss: Unit 01 tosses the enemy upwards and, while they are falling back, it punches them smashing them vertically with its fist.

Push and Crush: Unit 01 shoves the enemy against one of the walls of its stage and squashes them against it with its hand.

Overhead Stabbing Attack: Unit 01 uses the Progressive Knife to hit upwards in a wide arc. This is an extremely effective anti aerial move.

Super Moves:

AT Field Neutralization:

Unit 01 uses both hands to break any defense set up by the enemy, even forcefields. It also neutralizes slow moving projectiles.

The Beast:

Unit 01 goes into an insane frenzy, clawing maniacally with both hands and trying to rip the adversary apart. It can be blocked or otherwise neutralized with an effective enough Armor Mode.

Dance Like you Wish to Win!:

Unit 01 kicks up, its knee looking to smash the opponent up towards its mouth. If the opponent performs a kick or punch on its way up, it falls back down, but it may be kneed up again if they aren't careful. The best counter is to attack the mecha's body while this is happening, so to stop the chain of knee shots.

The End of Evangelion:

Unit 01 briefly taps into the powers of the Dimensional Tide sent by Yggdrasil and taking over its programs. The whole screen glows a sickly orange and disturbing music plays. Fountains of LCL liquid sprout like geysers and steal energy away from the opponent if they hit them. This energy is added to that Unit 01 might have lost during the match, healing it in a level comparable to the damage suffered by the adversary.

Victory Poses and Lines:

With his adversary destroyed, Shinji falls unconscioous within Unit 01, comatose, and the mech goes all the rest of the way down on its own.

It reaches Lilith's chamber, stepping on all of the soldiers shooting at it, and plunges an arm into the chest of the white masked being. Somewhere, Misato screams "SHINJI!"

The planet is quickly covered on red LCL. Pillars of light erupt from every continent, shooting up towards outer space.

Naked and ghostly luminous Ayanami Reis appear all over Earth, touching humans everywhere and assimilating them.

This is a Third Impact, but one controlled by Yggdrasil. All humans merge into a single consciousness which flies up into the sky and is absorbed into the World Tree for rebooting.

In the command centre of Yggdrasil, Belldandy falls to her knees, puts her face in her hands, and weeps. Skuld and Urd approach her and console her as best as possible.

GAME OVER.
