One sunny, cloud-free day, a large, jagged hole menacingly dotted the sky. A strange, blue, male-looking entity emerged, sending strange golden waves across the earth under him. Even stranger hand-shaped entities emerged, heniously grasping innocent civilians with a malolevent purpose, corrupting them into things far beyond recognition. Their skin turned purple; their eyes glowed with a strange golden light; their nails became sharp and jagged; their teeth sharpened enough to cut through the thickest of meat.
They were dubbed 'The Darkened'.
The Darkened attacked any poor, nearby, defenseless soul, turning them into one of their own. Those who could not handle the new, harsh, world committed suicide but returned as one of The Darkened soon after. The only way to truly kill a Darkened was to destroy their brain.
This strange, cataclysmic event was dubbed, 'The Madness'.
The Madness lasted for only eight hundred days. Whatever living beings remained on the earth helped rebuild their torn home, as those who were lost lived on in their loved ones' hearts and memories.

A corkboard sat on the side of the road, many pictures and flyers attached, their corners flapping haphazardly like flags in the day. Near the left corner of the board was a picture of a fox standing at a club, holding a drink high up in the air as he smiled proudly like there was no tomorrow. FOX. The second picture was a serious-looking, determined, brown-haired man aiming a rifle at an off-page target. SNAKE. Attached to its left bottom corner was a picture of a yellow Shih Tzu sitting at her desk, happily smiling as she waved vigorously at the camera. ISABELLE. The third picture showed a blue-haired young man wearing a black graduation cap, black gown, and a golden stole, smiling at the camera as if he had won a war. MARTH. The fourth picture showed a brown, spiky-haired teenager smiling as he lay on a black blanket on a beach in a tropical paradise. SORA. The final picture showed a blonde, smiling young man kneeling beside a blonde, pigtailed girl holding onto a large trout in her hand. LINK + ARYLL.
A pale hand reached and grabbed Fox's picture first…
