(A/N: I wrote this one-shot, mainly because I was bored and slowly regaining a little TMNT vibe. This is sort of set in the Point Grey universe, because I feel like maybe the turtles should get their own version of Klunk, so I'm wondering if they'll ever have a Klunk in the sequel, at least)
January, the middle of winter and just halfway through the month of the new year.
It had only been a week since school had resumed after Christmas break and everyone was slowly getting back into their usual schedules. Michelangelo had just finished up with the improv comedy team and was currently heading to Khatri's Foodmart to grab a soda. Along the way, Mikey slowly shivered from being cold blooded, despite the dark brown coat, grey sweatshirt, red sports pants, black boots, sandy brown gloves, orange scarf and beige beanie he had on. "Just need to grab that drink and head home." He muttered to himself. Beeping was then heard as Mikey took out his hand from his right pocket to show it was a message from his dad, Splinter.
'You on your way home?' That was the text.
Briefly putting the phone back in his pocket, Mikey took off his gloves, reclaimed the phone and started to text back. "'Heading to Ms Khatri's for a soda.'" Mikey muttered as he texted before sending it.
After a few seconds, another message appeared reading, 'Grab some cheese while you're there.'
Exhaling in compliance, Mikey had almost reached the store when he got another message. This time from Leo. 'And bacon.'
Then another, from Raph. 'And eggs.'
Then another, from Donnie. 'And bread.'
"Okay, bacon, egg, cheese and some bread. Got it." By now, he had reached Khatri's Foodmart and went inside.
Upon entering the foodmart, Mikey took off his beanie out of relief and unzipped his coat as the foodmart was a little warm inside. He then looked ahead to see the owner, Anamika Khatri or her pet cat, Mr. Whiskers, were nowhere to be seen. "Here, Mr. Whiskers." Anamika's voice made Mikey snap out of his confusion and turned to his right to see Anamika herself looking through the shelves of the animal food. "Mr. Whiskers?"
A little curious, Mikey approached her. "Uh, Ms Khatri?"
Surprised, Anamika turned to her left before sighing out of relief. "Oh, hi, Michelangelo."
"Are you alright?"
"Mr. Whiskers is gone and I haven't seen him all day."
"Think he could be outside?"
"Naw, he knows better than to be out in the cold."
"Still worth checking it out. I'll go look for you."
"Thank you." Sighing out of disappointment, Mikey went towards the entrance while putting his beanie and gloves back on, as well as zipping his coat up and exits the store.
Upon exiting the store to check behind the alleyway, Mikey started to shiver from the cold before making his way down it. "Mr. Whiskers? Mr. Whiskers?" Weak meowing was heard, followed by a tiny clunk, making Mikey turn to his left to a dumpster slightly pulled out and began making his way towards it. Reaching the back of it, Mikey became surprised to see a familiar cat. "Mr. Whiskers! There you are!" He kneels down to him, only for Mr. Whiskers to hiss at him before moving back. Mikey then noticed something ahead where Mr. Whiskers was going. What laid in a cardboard box was a grey cat that looks up at Mikey, softly meowing. "Aw, hello there." He turns to Mr. Whiskers. "Did you sneak out to see a friend?" Mr. Whiskers simply hissed before Mikey looked back at the grey cat before becoming surprised.
Within seconds, Mikey was back in Khatri's Foodmart holding the box with Mr. Whiskers beside him as Anamika came over. "You found Mr. Whiskers?"
"Yep. He wasn't alone, either."
Anamika looks in the box to see the grey cat before clicking her tongue and turns to Mr. Whiskers. "Aw, so that's who you were with."
Mikey becomes confused. "Wait, you know about this cat?"
"Yes. Unfortunately, I don't know her name, because she must be a stray. She likes to come around here and I would give her some leftover kibble."
"That's not the only thing he was with."
Confused, Anamika looked closer and became surprised. "Kittens!" Mikey smiled as he and Anamika look closely at five calico kittens that were in the box, feeding on their grey stray cat mother.
"Congratulations, Mr. Whiskers." Mikey kneels down, hoping to pet him, but Mr. Whiskers simply hisses at him.
"Guess I have to look after more than I thought."
Mikey then stands up. "I'd be glad to help out, Ms Khatri."
"You don't have to, Michelangelo."
"No, it's fine. After all, I think Snow would appreciate it too."
Anamika becomes confused. "Snow?"
"What I think she should be called. I did find her in the snow, after all."
Anamika smiles. "Snow it is."
3 Months Later
The time since Snow had given birth to Mr. Whisker's kittens felt like a blur to Mikey. True to his word, he often came to the foodmart, bringing small supplies for the kittens as well as helping out at the store. His brothers were a little suspicious, but one by one, they, as well as April, the Mutanimals and some of his friends in the comedy team, even Hun, saw how much he was helping Anamika raise the kittens. Splinter had been a little objective, especially expressing his ranting in Vermin, also going as far as trying to forbid Mikey if he were to bring a kitten home, but would have to train himself into getting use to having a pet around if it came to it.
Sometime later, Mikey came over to Khatri's Foodmart, eager to see the kittens again before spotting Mr. Whiskers and Snow were with their kittens as Anamika had just put up a small sign reading 'Kittens, $25.' "Aw, you're giving the little kittens away?"
"They're old enough to be fed normally. I know it's a little cruel, but I think they should have their own lives and see the world as they see fit."
"Well, I hope they do find good homes."
"Thank you, Michelangelo."
Mikey then looked over to Mr. Whiskers and Snow. "Sorry you have to give away your little ones." He raises a hand to pet Snow before moving to pet Mr. Whiskers, who amazingly complied with the action. "Aw, that's how it's done." He then moved his hand away before heading further into the store. "Okay, now to grab the bacon, egg and cheese." After a few seconds, as well as heading to the register to pay for them as Mikey did have a job and would have to pay. Suddenly, one of the kittens stood up and makes his way over to the mutant turtle and started to rub its head on his arm, surprising Mikey, who looks down at it as Anamika noticed. "Aw, I think she likes me."
"Would you like to take that one home with you?"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, consider her a gift for helping take care of the kittens."
"Thanks, Ms Khatri." Mikey carefully picks the kitten up and looks at her. "You really are a cutie. I think I'll call you Klunk." The kitten meows in agreement. "Your mama made a clunking sound when I found her, so I think you're the one that should have it." The newly named Klunk meowed as Mikey looked up at Anamika. "Well, better take Klunk home and talk things over with my dad." He soon left the store with the groceries, and a new resident.
"I cannot believe you even thought about bringing that monster home!" Splinter's reaction to Mikey upon seeing him with Klunk when he saw the kitten for the first time.
"She's not a monster, dad. Besides, she's still a little baby."
"But what if she goes nuts and attacks me? She could feed off my body for months!"
"I'll teach her to respect you, and I'm sure she'll make a great pet for you as well, dad. I can't just take her back to Ms Khatri." At that moment, Splinter starts to rant in Vermin. "Dad, it's not going to be a problem." Splinter continues ranting. "The others are sure to like her. Well, Pete might be a little scared, but she's harmless."
"Right now she is, but-"
"No buts, dad. I was given Klunk and I intend to keep her."
Splinter soon sighed. "Fine. But you're responsible for her."
Mikey wasted no time in hugging Splinter. "Thanks, dad."
