The Firstborn
Elena smirked as she walked into the Mikaelson mansion the night of the ball. She had big plans for tonight, plans beyond anything her friends thought her capable of. The truth was, they didn't know her as well as they thought they did. She hid a lot of secrets from them, secrets that would most likely be coming out tonight. With what she had planned, there was very little chance she'd be able to hide them any longer.
Elena hadn't originally intended to have her secrets revealed. In fact, no one was ever supposed to learn them. That was a promise she made to her mother years earlier. Unfortunately, it was one that she was being forced to break thanks to the idiocy of the Salvatore brothers and Bonnie. When they brought Esther back, they forced her hand.
Elena hated Esther with everything in her. There was no one she hated more. Well, that wasn't entirely true. Her hatred for Esther was probably on par with her hatred for Esther's sister. They were both awful, and Elena was not sure which one she hated more. She wanted Esther to pay for the things she'd done, and she planned to make her pay. She also knew that Esther's intensions in this town were not as pure as she'd like everyone to believe. The loving mother routine was a croc. Esther was a horrible mother. Whatever she was doing, Elena had no doubt that it was sinister. Once Elena ascertained exactly what she was doing, she'd make her suffer.
It wasn't long before the Salvatore brothers found Elena. Neither were very happy about her presence, especially Damon. Not that Elena cared. She let them believe that they had some sort of control over her, but it was an act. They got away with the things they did because she let them, because it was necessary to keep her secrets. Again, that would be coming to an end by the end of the night.
Elena enjoyed the ball for a while until it was time for her to meet with Esther. She then got Stefan to help her deal with Damon, so that she could get away from him long enough to meet with Esther. She could've done it herself, but she wasn't quite ready to reveal herself to the Salvatore's yet, and Stefan was so blind with rage that he'd do whatever it took at the prospect of hurting Klaus. It was too bad for him that Elena had no intention of hurting Klaus. No, Esther was the only one on her hitlist. Now, if anyone got in her way, that was another matter, but she would deal with that if and when it happened.
After a brief encounter with Elijah, where Elena promised to inform him of what happened, a promise she had ever intention of keeping, she went off to find Esther. Finn let her in before being sent away. After that, Esther explained that she planned to use Elena's blood to somehow kill Klaus.
Elena gave the old witch her blood. Again, she had no intention of hurting Klaus, but she didn't want Esther knowing that yet. It wouldn't matter. Whatever Esther wanted to do, Elena would stop momentarily. First, however, she wanted more information. She wanted to know what Esther planned to do to stop Klaus.
Esther was all too happy to explain herself to the young doppelganger. Apparently, she was under the impression that Elena was on her side, and that she couldn't stop her even if she weren't. She would soon find out she was wrong.
"So, your plan is to murder your own kids. Destroying one child wasn't enough?" Elena asked coldly.
Esther slowly turned and looked at Elena in shock. "Excuse me?"
Elena's only response was to slowly raise her hand make a tight fist, causing Esther to suddenly double over.
Esther fell to the floor and screamed out in pain. She felt as though her entire body was being squeezed to the point where her internal organs would soon burst.
Elena smirked at the old witch. "You stupid old hag. You should've stayed dead. Although, I have to say that a part of me is glad you didn't. I haven't felt this happy in four years, since the day my mother put me in the body of doppelganger to protect me from the curse you put on us!"
Esther could barely understand what was happening, but she understood enough of what this girl told her to know that she wasn't the true doppelganger. Her body might be, but the girl occupying it was someone else entirely. She was a witch that was much more powerful than her. "You're not Elena Gilbert."
"Yes and no. She's here. She's apart of me. Our personalities have merged, I suppose you could say. We're a part of each other. However, I'm also someone else entirely, someone who wants nothing more than to see you dead in the most torturous way possible," Elena told her.
Esther used what little strength she had to extinguish the sage she'd been burning. "Finn!"
Elena laughed loudly. "Is that supposed to save you? Is it supposed to intimidate me? Your son isn't going to save you. I doubt he'll even want to when he hears what I have to say." She was certain that she could get most, if not all of the Mikaelson siblings on her side. It shouldn't even take much. Hell, it might only take the fact that Esther wanted them dead, but Elena had more than that at her disposal.
Finn burst in moments later and looked shocked at what he was seeing. His mother was being held at the mercy of the young doppelganger, and she wasn't even touching her. He had not known that the doppelganger was a witch. "Hey!"
Before Finn could take more than a few steps towards her, Elena used her free hand to give Finn an aneurysm.
Finn screamed and hit the floor, grabbing his head in agony.
"I don't want to hurt you, Finn. My mother loved you very much. She spoke of you a lot. I don't want to hurt any of, except for her," Elena said before giving Esther a scathing look.
"What?" Finn asked through the pain.
Elijah ran into the room moments later, having heard the screams of his mother and then his brother. The scene that greeted him was shocking. Both his mother and brother were on the floor in agony, both being held there at the power of Elena Gilbert. "Elena?"
"Hello, Elijah. I'm sure you have a lot of questions, but I think it would only be fair to wait for the others. I'm sure they're on their way," Elena said.
As if on cue, Klaus burst into the room with Caroline next to him. He took in the scene and then raised his eyebrows at the doppelganger. "Well, this is certainly interesting."
"Elena, what's going on?" Caroline asked in shock. Her friend was doing magic right in front of her, and she was using it in a more impressive way than Bonnie ever had.
"Sorry, Caroline. I'm afraid I lied to you. It was a matter of survival. I hope you can understand that," Elena said genuinely. Caroline was her friend. She didn't like lying to her, but she had to. It was the only way to keep herself safe, and to fulfill the promise she made to her mother.
Kol and Rebekah made it into the room next. "Bloody hell," Kol said as he gaped in shock at what he was saying.
Rebekah looked completely shocked for a few moments, but then she glared bloody murder at Elena. "Let them go, you bitch!"
"Rebekah, no!" Kol exclaiming before pulling his sister behind him when she went to advance on the young witch. He'd seen a lot of power in his time, and this girl was one of most powerful he'd seen. "She's holding Mother and Finn on the ground in agony without breaking a sweat. You don't want to do anything stupid.
Elena smirked in response. She didn't play to hurt them, but she liked the fact that Kol respected her power.
Stefan and Damon also made their way into the room eventually. They were probably the most shocked out of everyone to see what was happening. "What the hell?"
"Hey, guys. As you can see, I never needed your protection," Elena said before turning to Finn, who was still holding his head in pain. "Are you going to behave? Like I said, I don't want to hurt you."
"Yes!" Finn said loudly, willing to say anything to make the pain stop.
Elena dropped the hand that was causing his aneurysm.
Finn slowly let go of his head and picked himself up off the floor.
"Elena, will you let my mother go please?" Elijah asked in a careful tone. He was almost certain they could make her let her go. Elena was clearly strong, but he didn't think she could take them all down. However, he didn't want to resort to such tactics just yet. He didn't understand what was happening or how Elena was doing what she was doing, but she was a very compassionate young woman. She had to be doing it for a reason. She even let Finn go, claiming not want to hurt him.
"No. Your mother deserves what she's getting," Elena said before looking down at Esther. She tightened her fist, causing the old witch to scream even further.
"Let her go, Doppelganger," Klaus said in a threatening tone.
Elena laughed. "I'm not afraid of you, Niklaus. I never have been. Besides, I'm doing you a favor. She wanted you dead. She wanted you all dead. She asked me here for my blood. She planned to use it to link you all. That way she would only have to kill one of you. Oh, speaking of that," she said before flicking her free wrist towards the mixture that contained her blood. The glass holding it shattered in moments.
Klaus looked at her as though she'd grown another head. He wasn't sure what shocked him more, the use of his full name or the fact that this young girl clearly had no fear of him whatsoever. He would almost say that this wasn't Elena Gilbert, but if that were the case, he didn't know who she could be. She definitely wasn't Katerina. Katerina was a coward, and this girl was definitely not that. Ironically, the fact that his mother never truly forgave him and actually wanted them all dead was the furthest thing from his mind at the moment.
"Alright, that's it. I don't know what's going on, but we're getting the hell out of here. Let's go," Damon said to Elena.
Elena laughed once more. "it's really cute that you think your controlling nature is going to work on me, Damon. I've let you get away with it this long because it benefited me. That's no longer the case though. You can feel free to leave though. After all, this is a family matter."
Everyone in the room became even more shocked, if that was at all possible. "What do you mean by that, Elena?" Elijah asked.
"Let's ask Esther," Elena said before smiling sadistically at the matriarch of the family. "Have you figured it out yet? Probably not. You probably think my mother's dead. After all, it has been more than a thousand years. She should be dead, but your vile sister never would've let that happen, not without at least another firstborn Mikaelson to take her place. I guess that would be me."
Esther gasped, momentarily forgetting her pain. "Freya. Y…You're Freya's daughter."
"That's right. And to protect me, she had to put me into the body of another. I was twelve when she did that. It was the scariest moment of my life," Elena said with a shudder. She had been twelve-years-old, and it was almost four years ago. She was a bit younger than people thought. Her body was that of an eighteen-year-old, but she was technically just shy of sixteen. Having her whole world disappear and change at the age of twelve was truly terrifying.
Elijah was completely dumbfounded, and there was much he didn't understand, but he had begun to put some of the pieces together based on what Elena had said thus far. "Freya? As in…"
Elena turned to him and smiled. "As in Freya Mikaelson, your older sister. I'm your niece."
