Train the Dog
Chapter 1: Sewer Surprise
Ladybug and Flairmidable were down in the sewers, on opposite sides of a dividing wall. They needed to feed their kwamis after using their powers.
Ladybug said, "Spots off!"
Flairmidable said, "Lay down!"
Marinette gave Tikki a macaron. Barkk flew over to Marinette, got one also, and flew back to Félix to eat.
"Thanks again, Adrien," said Marinette. "I'll take you back to the train."
"I don't wanna get back on that train," said Félix. "I wanna stay and fight with you."
"What about your trip? Are you going to stand up to your father?"
"Yes. You've given me the courage I need, Ladybug. I feel like from now on, nothing can stop me."
Marinette was delighted to hear this. This was exactly what she hoped for when she was going to take Adrien off the train, when she was under the influence of Risk.
"Hold on," Marinette thought. "What was I thinking, under the influence of Risk? I made a public, cringy attempt to get Adrien not to go. The public will get the idea that Ladybug is in love with Adrien – and that's dangerous! Shadow Moth could go after him, and use him as a hostage against me."
She thought: "What about that other plan, of teleporting to the train, taking Adrien off, and going together to his father? Even more stupid, even more risk that Shadow Moth would find out! Even if nobody else talked, Lila would."
Marinette said aloud, "Adrien, I would love to add you to the team, but we can do that next time, once you get your trip canceled. I need to protect your secret identity, and that means getting you back on the train with Nathalie and Lila as quickly as possible. I'll take you back using Kaalki. You haven't been gone from your seat that long. With luck they haven't missed you yet."
"Please, Ladybug. I really want to join the team now! If I don't, I may lose the courage to speak to my father," said Félix.
"I'm sure you can do it," said Marinette. "Just remember how well you did with our mission."
"I can't afford to wait," Félix said in a whisper to himself.
"Ladybug, watch out!" said Barkk, as Félix came running around the corner.
"No Adrien! You can't see my face!" said Marinette, covering her face with her arms.
Félix kept coming. Tikki wasn't through eating, but maybe it was enough.
"Tikki, spots - uugh!"
Félix tackled her to the ground, knocking the wind out of her. He knelt on top of her, pinning her arms down.
"Marinette, huh? That figures," said Félix in a harsh voice she had never heard from Adrien.
"Adrien, stop it! This isn't like you!"
"Maybe you don't know me as well as you think," said Félix, taking her earrings.
(As she had found out once with Dark Owl, they were attached by magic and they could be grabbed off without hurting her ears.)
"No! What are you doing? Did Shadow Moth akumatize you?" cried Marinette.
She struggled, and her upper body strength from lifting heavy bags of flour was almost enough to throw him off.
Félix put on the earrings and addressed the kwamis. "Finish eating quickly, both of you."
Since he was in possession of their Miraculous, they had to obey, but they glared at him as they ate.
With a surge of desperate strength, Marinette kicked herself to one side and got a hand free to fight back.
"Tikki, spots on!" said Félix, remembering the kwami's name from when Marinette said it a moment ago.
In flash he was super-humanly strong and agile. He leaped back and flung the yo-yo, which wound around Marinette and made her fall to the ground a second time.
"I guess that wasn't completely clever. I'm going to have to leave that on you while I escape."
Barkk flew up to him. "You won't get away with this, Adrien!"
"Barkk, I renounce you."
The collar remained on him, but the kwami had gone inside it.
"Adrien!" Marinette called. "Resist him!"
"I'm not akumatized. I'm doing this of my own free will."
The bug villain bounded away as Marinette yelled for help.
The hero team was waiting on the roof of City Hall when Chat Noir arrived. Ryuko, Rena Furtive, Carapace, Purple Tigress, Polymouse, Rooster Bold, Vesperia, and Minotaurox all looked at him.
"Where is Ladybug?" asked Rena.
"I don't know," said Chat. "She had a temporary Dog Holder. Maybe she had to let him de-transform and she took him home."
"She didn't say anything about expecting a delay," said Ryuko. "Something could be wrong."
"I can call her on my baton," said Chat.
He tried, but nobody picked up.
Her voicemail said, "Hi! It's Ladybug, leave a message!"
"Ladybug, we're all here waiting for your plan against Strikeback," said Chat. "What's happened?"
They waited a while longer, but there was no return call.
"We have tracking apps that trace each other's weapons," said Chat. "Let me see..."
He found the location, a point he recognized as being near a sewer manhole. They had sometimes used it as a recharge point.
"I'm going to go to her," Chat announced.
"We should come, too," said Polymouse.
"Let me check it out first," said Chat. "I'll call you by earpiece if I need you."
Chat found Marinette bound by the yo-yo.
"Marinette, what happened to you?"
"Don't untie me, open the portal on the yo-yo and grab out every Miraculous you can before he thinks to detransform and retransform."
"Who did this to you?"
"Adrien. He's not who I thought he was. He's evil."
"It can't be..."
"Don't stop to argue. Get the Miraculous out!"
Chat found the yo-yo near her feet and grabbed it. Just as he did, the yo-yo vanished!
"No, he got them all!" said Marinette with a sob.
"Not the ones the team is using," said Chat.
Marinette was in tears. No longer tied, she stood up shakily.
"I've lost. I'm the worst Guardian ever."
"Ladybug?" asked Chat.
