Today was the big day. A day that may change the lives of both father and son for the rest of their lives. Rad has waited for so long to confess his true feelings to Frisky. Even though it has been somewhere between six months to a year bonding with her, it feels like it has taken a long time to get to know her best. Even Lyon has appreciated having her in their lives, hoping this is his chance to have a maternal figure in his life. The words from his father stating he was ready to marry her were golden to his ears. But will things go smoothly for the duo?
The late afternoon, Lyon was getting ready for a sleepover at Mackenzie's house for his birthday; Mackenzie has invited a few of his closest friends from school, including his best friend Lyon. Lyon was packing his stuff in his book bag: blanket, stuffed moose, a couple of books, and his surprise present to Mackenzie. The present appears to be wrapped in a black wrapper with grey triangle and a dark blue ribbon wrapped meticulously on top. The wolf dog rushes to his father's bedroom. Meanwhile, Radley was preparing for the special evening to propose to Frisky. And yet, he cannot feel a sense of anxiety, wondering what her reaction will be once he shows her the rings. After taking a long shower, and applying almond milk shampoo twice to his hair, he was blow drying with his hair dryer to fluff up his mullet like hairstyle, ensuring he looks his best. "Hey, dad, we got to go now," said Lyon.
"In a minute sport. I just want to make sure I look my best for tonight. Gotta make this work," he added, while stroking his hair with a comb. Afterwards, he sprayed some cologne around his torso, and sprayed some deodorant in his arms. Lyon stepped back and covered his nose to avoid the strong scent of his father's cosmetics. He always knew men's cologne and deodorant has a strong sensation to his nose. "I didn't think you were so nervous," said Lyon.
"What? Me, of course not. I just want things to be perfect," lied Rad. "Okay…then why are you overdoing with the spray," pointed Lyon, noticing Rad's overpreparation. Rad chuckled nervously when his perceptive son notices his jitters. "It's okay dad. I'm sure Frisky will say yes. At least I hope so!" Lyon wagged his tail to reassure his father that things will work out. "You really think so, mate," asked Radley. "Yes! You don't need to do anything extra for tonight. Just be yourself." The words of encouragement from his son meant everything for Rad. He smiled, and patted his son's shoulders. "Thanks, Lyon. Well then, I guess we're good to go," said Rad. He put on his best black bow tie around his neck, and grabs the ring box. Furthermore, he has a bouquet of roses ready to hand to her once they arrive at the reserved place just for them.
Lyon jumps downstairs, who was not only excited for the sleepover, but hoping things will work out for his father. Once they were on the road, they converse with each other about their nights. "I'm so excited to give Mackenzie's gift. He's going to be so excited to when he unwraps it," says Lyon. "And we're going to stay up late to play games, tell stories, play in his water slide, and eat pizza!"
"That sounds like a lot of fun. I think he will like it too. You couldn't stop talking about it all week," chuckled Rad.
"Well, it was something he exactly wanted," said Lyon. "What about your night? What will you and Frisky do?"
"I reserved us a horse carriage ride on our way to Mount Coot-Tha. It's a lookout point in town, and your aunt has told me it's one of Frisky's favorite place. I was able to get a spot for just the two of us."
"Oh, a special night out with just you two," said Lyon impressed. "I really hope she says yes. I want her to be a part of our family."
"Yeah, mate. Me as well," agreed Rad. "But it'll depend on if she's wanting to say yes so let's not get too excited." While Rad was feeling confident, at the same time he's trying to be realistic too. There's no telling if Frisky is hesitating about entering the next stage after romantic partners. With the situation with her last affair with Bosco, there's the possibility she may put off marriage for a while.
Once they arrived at Mackenzie's house, Lyon saw his best friend waving hello at him. The wolf dog got off from his seat with his backpack. "Alright mate, you have a good time with the sleepover. Have fun, but try not to stay up too late," added Rad. "No worries dad. You have a great dinner with Frisky. Good luck," said Lyon. As father and son departed, Lyon saw him driving away from a distance. He waves weakly, thinking about the end results of the proposal night. "Good luck," he mutters softly.
"Hey, Lyon," called out Mackenzie as he sprints towards his best mate. "Mackenize," greeted Lyon. They did their special handshake by closing their fists, and wave their hands towards each other. "Happy birthday! I have your present in my bookbag," he said pulling it out, and handing to his friend. "Aw, thanks! I can't wait to open this once we do gift wrapping. We were waiting for you to start the waterslide in my backyard." The two boys rushed inside." Both Mackenzie's parents were making the dinner pizza along with other appetizers and cake in the kitchen. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Border Collies," said Lyon as he greeted to Scott and Charlotte. "Hello, Lyon. How have you've been," said Charlotte.
"I'm very well thanks. Thanks for inviting me to Mackenzie's sleepover."
"It's the least we can do for Mackenzie's closet friends. How's your dad by the way," asked Scott.
"He's doing great too. Having a nice dinner evening ," added Lyon. Scott was aware of Radley's proposal night with Frisky as well. "Ah, that's very good. Hope he has a great evening. The waterslide is waiting for you kids out there. Rusty, Jack, and Snickers are having a blast."
"Oh, yeah, dad rented a neat water slide out there. Come on!" Mackenzie grabs Lyon by the arm as they laughed their way to the water slide. Lyon's eyes couldn't believe how gigantic the water slide was. It appears to be a bounce house like hybrid water slide. There was a rock wall like ladder made out of balloon rubber connected to the very top of the waterslide. The waterslide was an elongated green and yellow slide with sprinklers. Below the slide is a small pool area with water.
Jack and Rusty were splashing themselves in the shallow pool area of the slide while Snickers was rolling down from the slide. "Oh man, this is going to be great," said Lyon, itching to ride from the slide. "You're dad is amazing!"
"Yeah, I mean I wouldn't say that amazing, but he found the best water slide for the party," said Mackenze somewhat blushing. The boys greeted with the other party members, who were enjoying themselves on this fine late afternoon. "Lyon, you got to try the slide. It's so much fun," said Jack. "Don't mind if I do," said Lyon as he climbs on the ladder.
"It's more fun when you role on your side. Since I'm a sausage dog," said Snickers. Lyon laid on his side, and rolled his way down to the slide with the sprinklers spraying his face. He chuckled as he descended to the water pool area. "Again," he said excitingly.
The boys were enjoying themselves as they kept on getting wet, and splashing at each other.
Just as Lyon's night was going well, somewhere in downtown Brisbane, Rad parked his ute in the parking lot. He mentioned to Frisky they will meet in the center where Rad will escort her to the horse carriage. He got off with flowers and ring box in his hands. They were going to meet in the same fountain center nearby Frisky's friend flower shop where they first bought there for Audrey' birthday, where they both had to make up for forgetting her birthday, much to Lyon's dismay. It almost felt like a while ago since then, Lyon resented Frisky for wanting to hang out with Rad instead of paying respects.
"Okay, Rad boy. You've got this," he muttered to himself. He approaches to Frisky, who had her bag with her as she waited patiently for her boyfriend. The sun sets with a scarlet color on the horizon with clouds half covering it. The streetlights soon turned on as it was already late afternoon. It was truly a magnificent evening.
Frisky saw Rad as he slowly approaches her. Rad hid the ring box behind him, and only had the bouquet of roses on his right hand. "Hey, Radley," said Frisky cheerfully. She had a soften smile to see Rad. "Evening, Frisky. How are you?"
"I've been doing amazingly well. And you?"
"Fine, never better," said Radley, though not entirely true. "Well then, shall we be off milady?" The heeler opens his arm with his eyes half closed. Frisky grinned, and wrapped her arm around Rad as they strolled their way to the horse carriage. Unknown to Frisky, she was wondering where they were heading. "So, what is this surprise?"
"Just close your eyes, and I'll let you know when we arrive."
"Why?"
"Just trust me. I promise you'll love it." Despite her confusion, she did as she was told. "So, how are things at work," asked Radley.
"Oh, they're so so. I apparently have to take a few double shifts due to someone calling in sick for two weeks. Never a dull moment at the hospital."
"Can tell you seem a bit stress," said Rad.
"Yeah, a little. But I'm fine," said Frisky with a grin while keeping her eyes closed. "I take your job has been demanding as well."
"I'm used to oil field work. Though if I'm being honest, there can be it's downs too. The new boss at our location doesn't seem to like me for some reason. I just try to brush it off, and do my job. I just hope I don't have to hear another one of his small reprimands," sighed Rad. Lately when the previous boss left for another oil field station, the new one has been giving Rad some hard moments such as nasty looks, unrealistic expectations, and always pointing out to every detail of his duties on what needs to be done properly. To be frank, it has been bothering Rad.
"Oh, sorry to hear that. Hopefully he'll come good. It takes time getting used to new people at work," said Frisky.
"Yeah, sure hope things don't escalate at work. I don't like getting into work drama," said Rad. "Are oil rigs always that hectic."
"Sometimes, normally because we try to be a big family, but often times, we have our struggles too. I've done this line of work for years." The two were nearing towards the horse carriage. "So, has Lyon been doing well lately?"
"He has, I think. I hardly recognize him anymore. He used to be so reserved and withdrawn, but it's like he's a completely new person. Sure he might have a few of his faults, but I can tell he's improved a lot," explained Radley. "I think I have to thank you for being there for him too."
"Oh, it was nothing. Besides, spending time with him has been a joy," added Frisky. "I try to act like a big sister figure for him, but for some reason he sees me more of a mum than a big sister. I can't help but feel a bit embarrassed."
"There's no reason to be embarrassed. Besides, I think you're doing great. You two get along just fine," praised Rad. "Oh, hang on, we're almost there. You can open your eyes now." Frisky opens her eyes, and notices a white horse carriage with lavender and pink roses around the horse carriage. The two horses were white steeds with smooth manes. The carriage rider was a Dalmatian with a beard and school boy's cap. The seats appear to be comfy as well. "Oh my goodness. Rad this is," said Frisky.
"Yeah, just for the two of us. Instead of driving to our destination, I thought I made things more peaceful with a nice horse ride to our dinner," said Rad. Frisky's mouth could not stop gapping, but she thought Rad has put a lot of thought into their special transportation. She beams delightfully at the ride. "I don't know what to say," she mentions. Rad opens the carriage to his soon to be fiancée. Frisky slowly steps up into the carriage, and sat down on the driver's side. Rad hops into the carriage as well. "Take up to the location I mentioned," he said to the driver. The driver nods, and he voice commands his horses while moving the reins, letting them know it's time to move out.
On their peaceful way to the reserved spot, Frisky couldn't help but admire the peaceful ride to their dinner. The sun has set down even more, with only a tip of it hiding beneath the sky. The color went from scarlet to a darker shade with only a part of the sun with it's sunset colors on the horizon. Frisky notices a bag that had a large champagne bottle and some glass cups. "Oh, are these for our dinner?"
"Yup, they were given to be as part of this ride."
"This is a good brand," added Frisky, noticing the label and name as it appears to be an expensive drink. "Oh, almost forgot, these are for you," said Rad, handing the flowers to Frisky.
"You are too kind. I am almost overwhelmed by all this. What's the occasion," asked Frisky, somewhat suspicious of Rad's efforts into making this night special.
"Well, I thought I make it a nice evening. Besides, the best is yet to come so don't get too suspicious," said Radley, reassuring Frisky. She decided to have faith as she knows Rad is aware of his actions. "Tell me, what is Lyon up to?"
"He's spending time at a friend's sleepover party. It's for a birthday as well."
"That must be fun. I take he's enjoying his time as much as we are?"
Rad nodded yes and places his hand to Frisky's hand. She blushes as he felt the intimacy between her and him.
Back at the party, once the boys were finished from the water slide, they shake off their wet furs. Mackenzie's mother brought some towels as well to dry the boys off from their fun in the waterslide. "So, what else are we doing," asked Rusty. "Pizza will be done in thirty minutes. Until then, why don't you start unwrapping your presents Mackenzie. I bet you're dying to see what you got," said Charlotte. "Okay, mum! Come on, guys. Let's go to the living room!" The four boys rush into the living room, where the coffee table had all the gifts stacked together. Lyon's gift was on the top of the stack. Lyon was amazed how many gifts he received, assuming some were from his parents.
"Okay, is the birthday boy ready for his gifts," asked Scott. Mackenzie wagged his tail as he was ready to see what he got. "Okay, the first one. Looks like this one is from Rusty," said the father, handing Mackenzie the orange bag with white tissue paper. Mackenize opens the bag, and takes out the tissue paper, pulling out the mystery item. It appears to be a superaction figure. "Aw, yeah! It's the Super Mega Dog action figure," he said recognizing the metallic armor and helmet of the cartoon character. "I figured since you like the show, I get you the action figure," said Rusty.
"Oh, my gift's next," said Jack as he was grabbing a red gift box with a red bow tie. He hands the gift to Mackenzie. He unwraps it, and sees a remote toy robot with the word 'Hamboard'.
"What's this? I've haven't heard of this toy before."
"It's the latest version of the toy robot. I have one like this at home. You can control it, it can speak, and can do all sorts of tricks." All kids were amazed by the toy robot. "Thanks, Jack," added Mackenize. Jack shows a grin to the Jack Russell Terrier. "My gift is next. Happy birthday, Mackenzie," said Snickers. The sassuage dog gave the Border Collie an elongated white wrapped gift with a green bow tie. The curious Mackenzie also unwraps it, and saw a toy that appears to be a tall garage with several toy cars to let go, and descend down to the end. "Oh man, it's the Tough Wheels Garage set. I've always wanted this one. Thanks, Snickers!"
"No problem, Mackenzie," said Snickers. "I guess it's my turn now," said Lyon, as he grabs his gift. He hands his gift to Mackenzie; the Border Collie smiles at his best friend, hoping the gift was grand. As he unwraps it, Mackenzie saws a radio caller set. This appears to be an advanced radio set where the callers can communicate from a considerable distance. "Wow, radios. So we can talk whenever we want. Thanks, Lyon," said Mackenzie. "No problem. I always wanted to try this out. I actually have my own radio set at home so you can keep the extra radio as a spare," explained Lyon.
"That leaves our gifts, and Aunt Ivy's gift. She had it sent to us priority mail from New Zealand," said Charlotte. Mackenize opens his parents gift, which appears to be a green gift bag. It appears to be a skateboard set with a helmet, and kneepads. "Wow! Thanks mum and dad! I always wanted to learn how to skateboard."
"It was the least we can do. You've grown up so fast kiddo," said Scott, patting his son. Parents and child wagged their tails. "Oh, don't forget Aunt Ivy's gift," said Charlotte, handing a purple gift box. Mackenize unboxes the gift excitingly. As he goes through the tissue box, he saw a knitted sweater, though the design appears to be a green, orange, and yellow pattern knitted sweater with many geometric triangles. "Oh…a jumper," said Mackenize, somewhat sounding unimpressed by the knit sweater. The boys couldn't help but were shocked to see the bold colors of the sweater. "Ah, well…your aunt has exquisite tastes. Though, I suppose she does have the tendency to be color blind," said Charlotte, admitting her older sister's fault in color blindness. "Well, I think it's interesting. It has a lot of character," said Scott, trying to cheer up Mackenzie.
The boys couldn't help but chuckle at the last gift. Mackenzie, despite his reluctance, decides to only wear it when his aunt visits, and not on a daily basis. "Well, it's nice, thanks," said Makenize as he places the knitted sweater back in the box.
"I guess that's all the gifts. I think the pizza should be ready everyone. I'll get it out, and prepare the cake's candles," said Charlotte. "Horary," said all boys. They race to the kitchen; Mackenzie's parents are setting up the table with plenty of appetizers, fruit desserts, and the main entrée. Mackenzie's mother pulled out tinned spaghetti pizza from the oven while Mackenzie's father was preparing the cake's candles.
All four boys surrounded the pizza at the table as they wagged their tails. The smell of the seasoning, pepperoni, capsicum peppers, and melting cheese tempted their tongues. "And now for the birthday boy to make his wish," said Scott as he places the cake in front of Mackenzie. All four boys were on the side of the table and his parents beside him. "Let me get the camera," said Charlotte. She grabs her phone, and records her son for his birthday. Everyone sang for the seven year old Mackenize. He felt both happy and overwhelmed by the positivity. Mackenize blows his candles from his chocolate fudge cake.
"Happy birthday, Mackenzie," shouted all his friends. "Thanks guys. This is an awesome birthday," he said. "And thanks mum and dad for letting me have the sleepover."
"No worries," said both parents. Lyon was proud that his friend made it to his seventh birthday; he could not ask for a better best friend; recalling his very first day at Glasshouse, he was so timid, he couldn't make a single friend. However, thanks to Calypso's encouragement, it was that fated day both boys were fast friends.
Flashback:
"Oh, hi. Sorry, I didn't mean to stare," apologized Lyon.
"No, it's fine. You're the new kid today, aren't you," said the kid in a New Zealand accent.
"Yes, that's correct. I am Lyon."
"You're also Bluey's new cousin. She's been talking about that to us last week." Lyon nodded yes, letting the collie kid know who he was.
"I'm Mackenzie by the way."
"What are you up to," asked the wolf dog.
"I'm playing barky boats. I picked some bark this morning, and pretended these bark pieces are boats."
Lyon observed how the bark pieces flowing down the fountains look the alike river. He slowly approached and kneeled to the ground. "Want to give it a go," asked Mackenzie holding a piece of bark. "You don't mind," he questioned. "No, why wouldn't I," chuckled Mackenzie. Lyon, despite his hesitation, accepts Mackenzie's bark and places it on top of the fountain. The bark soon rushes down the rest of the fountain's river. "Yeah, just like that," exclaimed Mackenzie.
The two boys to the forest's trees to grab some more bark. They were conversing as they collected bark in the forest.
Present:
Lyon opened his eyes after recalling the eventful day. He grins at his best friend, wishing his birthday will bring his everlasting joy. He was wondering how Rad was faring with the proposal.
During the horse carriage ride, the couple were nearing their destination. Frisky noticed where they were heading. Rad was hoping to see a positive reaction from his girlfriend. "Looks like we've arrived."
"Hey, this is Mount Coot-Tha. You mean we're having our dinner up there?"
"Yup. I got it reserved for the both of us tonight. I hired a chef to make us our dinner. Just the two of us in the gazebo."
"Oh, Radley. This is amazing," said Frisky. The heeler hopped off, and lends his hand to the Cocker Spaniel to descend from the carriage. Frisky carried the bag with the champagne and cups. Radley took Frisky by hand as they walked up to the stairs of the location. "How did you know I like coming here," asked Frisky. "Chilli said you two used to hang out here a lot," explained Rad. "Thinking about all the locations, I thought we can have the place to ourselves just for tonight so I requested the owners to have us have our night out here."
"I hope she didn't mention our times where we did our thinking. Because it was just embarrassing teen stuff we did back then," admitted Frisky, recalling her shenanigans with her best friend by going out here in late nights having booze. "What," asked Rad. "No, it's nothing," said Frisky sheepishly. Rad didn't think Frisky had so much rebellion as a teenager, but he decided it's not his place to question what she did as a teenager back then. After all, he two had his moments when he was a teenager as well.
As the two made it to the top. There was a chef Beagle who was the couple's meal prepper for tonight. He had a table with the entrée, appetizers, and dessert for the finisher. The meal appears to be seared scallops with remoulade, along with grilled asparagus sandwiches in melted cheese. The dessert was chocolate strawberry shortcake with dipped strawberries centering the cake. The path was laid down with a few lit fire torches with a flower pathway to the gazebo.
"My, you went your way through all this for me," said Frisky, feeling overwhelmed by the gesture. "Yeah, I know these are your favorite dishes so I wanted to make it great for the two of us. Shall we sit down?" Frisky nodded without hesitation, though she still wonders why make things super special? Radley pulls a chair for the Cocker Spaniel, and she sat down. He takes his seat on the other side of the round table. Both couple saw the lovely view of the site where they saw the entire Queensland neighborhood lit up.
Frisky saw the place in awe as she admired the late evening. She recalled how this place was beautiful in the evening. She was grateful that Rad choose this place for the two of them. They were served the scallops as the main course. Rad poured some of the champagne to their glass cups. It appears to be a pink liquid, and the two toasted their drinks to each other.
"I just love scallops," said Frisky. "Do you like them?"
"Well, I prefer battered fish, but these are good too," said Radley. The two converse on so many topics from work to personal stuff in their lives. They even made several jokes about their embarrassing moments in their teens.
"Oh man. You did not just crash your dad's truck into the ditch that time did you," said Frisky chuckling at Rad."
"It wasn't a crash. Besides, I was learning how to back up back then. Geez," said Rad, embarrassed. "My brothers did not hear the end of it. I was grounded for a month." Rad knew he wasn't perfect, but he was learning how to drive back then around the age of sixteen. They moved on to the appetizers where they ate the mini grilled cheese asparagus sandwiches.
During the sleepover, the boys were setting up their sleeping bags in the living room. Lyon and Mackenize were making a pillow fort from the couch's cushions and pillows. "Okay guys, I've decided to play Pass the Parcel. One person is going to get the grand prize tonight."
"Are we playing by Lucky Dad's rules," asked Rusty.
"Yes. To make the game more interesting," said Mackenize. Mackenzie's father brings the heavily wrapped parcel with him along with the mini speaker and his phone to play the music. "Alright boys, here's the parcel. Whenever you're ready, I'll play the music," said Scott. All boys were keen on getting started with the game. "Start the music dad," said Mackenzie. Mackenize's father plays a rock song from his phone as the boys started passing the parcel to each other. Lyon made sure to pass the parcel with haste, hoping he might win the prize.
"Okay, stop," said Scott, pushing the button on his screen. The parcel landed on Jack. He unwraps the first wrap, and there was nothing in the first wrap. "Lucky's dad rules," said all boys. Scott presses the button again, and the boys pass the parcel again, ensuring the next one is unwrapped by someone else. "Stop," said Scott. The gift is in the hands of Snickers. The sausage dog unwraps the gift with zeal. Though, it's not even close to the grand prize. The music is played again as each kid passes the gift. "Stop," said Scott the third time. The gift lands at Rusty. "I bet it's inside," said Rusty. Yet, no grand prize yet. "I'm sure this is the last one," said Scott. He pushes the button again, and once again the parcel is passed in a timely manner. Lyon was feeling anxious and excited, wondering if he might win. As he receives the parcel from Mackenize, Scott stops the music the final time. "Oh, could it be," said Lyon. He unwraps the parcel, and sees the gift was flying orb ball toy that glows, and floats as one throws it to a person. "Wowie, an orb ball," said Lyon.
"Congrats, Lyon! That's some nifty prize," said Scott. "Yay, Lyon," cheered the boys. Lyon's tail wagged as he was the winner. "Good game, Lyon," said Mackenzie. "Thanks, Mackenize. This is a cool prize," said the wolf dog. "Alright boys, now that the game is done, you get to stay up late for a few hours, but not pass 11, got it," said Scott. All boys agreed they can do some night activities before winding down. "Yes dad, we got it," said Mackenzie.
"Alright, good night everyone," said Scott as he said goodbye, and head to his bedroom. "Let's play the racing game on my console," said Mackenzie. The five boys agreed, and Mackenzie went to his black Barktendo Switch, where he inserted the game cartridge in the slot. He passes on three of his controllers to Snickers, Jack, and Rusty while he uses the main console's joy cons. There wasn't enough for all boys. "Oh, there's none controllers left," said Lyon, rubbing his arm.
Mackenzie noticed how left out his friend was. "Don't worry, Lyon. You can try out the first round. Consider it as a second prize for winning Pass the Parcel," said Mackenzie, being kind. "Are you sure? It's your birthday. I wouldn't want to hog your controller."
"Nah, I'm fine. Besides, I can always take turns with you. We're a team," said Mackenize. Lyon smiled at his friend who wanted to be on a duo team against the other boys. They decided to set in a hard stage where there were more traps in the course, and each of them were competitive in getting first place.
"Come on, Lyon, you've got this," cheered on Mackenzie. The wolf dog was concentrated on beating Rusty, who was currently in the lead of the race, with Jack tailgating behind him, and Snickers in last. He squinted hard at the screen, ensuring his victory was absolute. At the nick of time, Lyon has beaten Rusty. "Oh, so close," said Rusty. "Good one, you almost had me," said Lyon, reaching his hand to shake Rusty's hand for sportsmanship. "Yeah, good game," said Rusty. "Here Mackenize, you can have the next course," said Lyon, handing the controller to his friend. "Thanks Lyon," expressed Mackenzie with gratitude. As the next course starts, Lyon watched Mackenize on the sidelines, rooting for him to win the next race. At the same time, he wonders how his father's night is going. "I wonder how things are going with him," he muttered silently to himself.
Back at night dinner, both couples were finishing their desserts, along with sipping champagne. The rich, citrus flavor of the drink was mouthwatering to Frisky along with the dessert. She was genuinely enjoying her time with her boyfriend, who was still waiting for the surprise. "This has been a lovely night. I can't believe you've gone through all this trouble just for me," said Frisky.
"I just thought I did this to your liking," said Rad.
"Though, you did went a bit above and beyond, so I have a feeling there is more to tonight. Which leaves me wondering, why go through of all this?"
Rad can tell the Cocker Spaniel was still getting more suspicious. He thought of an idea to make the proposal more romantic. "Here, take my hand," said Rad, reaching his hand out to Frisky. Clueless, Frisky decides to grabs his hand, and he takes her to see the wide view of Brisbane. The ethereal night with the town's lights, and clear dark sky makes it a sight to behold as both couples marveled the view. Frisky was in awe; she almost forgot how this site was her favorite as she got lovely view of town.
Rad was pleased that she was enjoying herself so far. He too is enjoying this evening. He thought now would be the time to present the rings. With the box hiding behind his back, he was sure this was the right moment. "Nice evening," said Rad.
"Yeah, it's lovely. Reminds me when me and Chilli used to sneak out in the evening," said Frisky. Rad cleared his throat as he was about to bring up the rings to the Cocker Spaniel. "You're probably wondering why I brought you here tonight. I have a very important thing to announce," he said boldly. Frisky turned to his side, listening to him. "Yeah, go on," she said. The red blue Heeler took her two hands as they faced each other. "You and I have enjoyed each other so well. For the past several months. I always thought we were good friends, but I feel as if though we have a lot more in common. Do you agree," asked Radley. Frisky looked at his eyes intently. "Yes, I think we do. For some time, I always thought we were good friends, but strangely, I think…we could have something more. You know, something more than friends," agreed Frisky. "And I'm not just saying this because we hang out a lot." She blushed as if she was at a loss for words.
"Frisky, you know we have enjoyed our time together. Even my son appreciates you around," said Radley. "Which is why I have something to bring up. Frisky… as your boyfriend who will never leave your side, will you accept this as a symbol of my request to take your hand by marriage?" Rad revealed the box as he held the box in Frisky's hand. She didn't know what he hid as he held her hands was a ring box. He kneels down, opens the box slowly, and reveals the two rings: the platinum ring with the gold trim he bought from the store, and the silver ring with the sapphire gemstone which used to belong to Lyon's mother, which he has kept it as a personal keepsake. Though his sacrifice by replacing the lost ring from before was a noble act from Rad's son.
Frisky's mouth dropped by the rings; she didn't know what to say at all by the sudden shift in topic. "I….I…," she said, repetitively. "Look, you know how much I want this. I love you. So much. I know it's not something you expected, but you once said if we had something more between us….and well, I thought this could convince you how I truly feel towards you. So, please, would you marry me," asked Rad. He too was blushing uncontrollably.
"Rad…are you sure…you want to be with me," asked Frisky. "I don't know if I can do this. I mean, what if I am not the perfect person in your life you deserve. I just…," said Frisky, struggling to keep up with her sentence. "Worried about like last time? Look, I'm not Bosco, and I would never disregard you like he did to you before. Didn't you once said people have to give things a shot if they never done it before? Otherwise, they will never know where their decisions will lead to them or are stuck in a bad experience," explained Rad in a serious, yet heartwarming tone.
"I know. It's not the whole Bosco situation I'm worried about. I'm also worried about being a mother too. You know, for Lyon. I wonder if I would be the right person to be a motherly figure if we were to wed," explained Frisky.
"Lyon is aware of the whole thing, and after talking it out with him, he's more than willing for you to join the family. I think you would make a great mother. And who knows? We could have more children in the future if that is what you want? I just want what's best for us all, and if you think this is too much, I understand," said Rad. He also must realize there's a chance Frisky may not be committed to this major decision that could change their lives forever.
The Cocker Spaniel was blushing uncontrollably. She had a nervous smile, but knew what Rad said was right. He really is serious. Oh, Radley, sometimes you're full of surprises, she thought. "Hang on, let me compose myself. Or pinch myself at the very least if it's not a dream," said Frisky. She turned away, counted down to one from ten, and pinched her arm, hoping if it's not a dream. She let out a smile at her soon to be fiancé. "Yes, yes! I want to be with you! Now, and forever!" She tackles the Heeler to the ground. Rad grunts by the fall as he lost his balance when Frisky pounces on him. He closed his eyes and let out a small sigh from the impact to the ground. The Cocker Spaniel hugged her soon to be husband, hoping this union will be a permanent one. She wags her tail so fast, and nearly bursts into tears. The red blue Heeler pats her head for comfort. "Alright, alright. You're good. I'm just glad you decided to say yes," said Rad.
"No wonder you went through all of this trouble for me. I am just filled with joy that words cannot amount how much I feel," said Frisky. "I know. You know I will love you forever, love. I promise to be a good husband," said Radley. The two looked at each other for a brief moment. Without hesitation, they kissed each other, feeling the strong sensation of intimacy. After the kiss, they looked at each other, feeling somewhat flustered, and unaware that the chef was looking at their tender moment. Radley coughed awkwardly, and Frisky stroked her hair, looking away from her fiancé.
"Well, this is awkward," said Rad. "Yeah," admitted Frisky. Even so, it is clear that both couples do love each other so much, and want to share the rest of their lives together. Building a family, and seeing what the future has in store for them. I know things will turn out right. I just know it, thought Rad. The two were sitting on the ground, viewing the night sky. For that moment, they decided to just chat about all sorts of things such things.
Back at the slumber party, it was nearly 11 PM. Most of the boys were already feeling tired from staying up. Jack and Snickers were already fast asleep with only Lyon, Mackenize, and Rusty, trying to stay up past 11 PM. The three were mostly reading comic books with the torch lit up.
"Say Lyon, you seem so happy," said Mackenize, noticing his friend's chipper mood. "Oh, really? I'm just enjoying myself," said Lyon. "Why's that," asked Rusty. Lyon simply looked down, with his eyes half closed. For some reason, he feels a warm sensation in him. It's as if something good has happened. "Dunno. But I think something good has happened," said Lyon. "I'm not even tired either. I'm just feeling excited to go to sleep." Lyon waved his feet while lying down on his tummy.
"Well, I'm kind of sleepy so I'm going to call it a night," said Rusty. "Here, Mackenzie. You can keep the torch lit," he said handing the torch light to the Border Collie. The Red Kelpie crawls to his sleeping bag, and closes his eyes from the long slumber party. The only two left awake are Mackenize and Lyon. "What other comic do you want to keep reading," asked Lyon.
"I've got some other Bathound stories. How about the one where he and The Clowndog face a showdown at the factory," suggested Mackenize. "Good idea," agreed Lyon. The two best friends share the book as they huddled together reading the rest of the images and dialogue in the comic book.
Back at the date, both Frisky and Radley were escorted back where they came from by the horse carriage dog. After Radley gave the driver a tip, the two were walking towards the center fountain of town. "I really had a great time, Rad. You don't know how much this means to me," said Frisky. "I did what I thought could make a great evening for the both of us," said Rad boastfully. "With that settled, we have to share to everyone that the wedding is underway."
"Including mines as well," said Frisky. "Oh, so much to do, and very little time. We have to decide the right venue to take place, not to mention think about other things such as the cake, music, who to invite, and so on. I'm starting to feel overwhelmed already," admitted Frisky.
"Hey, it's okay. There's plenty of time. I promise we'll make this count," said Rad, comforting the Cocker Spaniel. "I can talk with my brothers and see where we can get the ceremony done. They can help out along with Trixe and Chilli. Most likely it would invite our closet families and friends during the ceremony. We might have to find someone who is willing to be our officiant as well. I'm sure all of this will work out just fine."
"Yeah, okay," said Frisky calmly. "And I'm sure the girls, and Lyon would like to help out with the entrance such as throwing flowers, and Lyon being the ring bearer."
"Oh, Lyon has been practicing a lot lately," chuckled Rad. "He said he's practicing so he can be the best ring boy. I told you he was serious about us being a couple."
"Well, that is reassuring," said Frisky. "I should head back now, but we should discuss more in the morning."
"Right-o. Be safe on your way back home," said Rad. He gave his fiancée a kiss in the cheek. Frisky grinned by Rad's goodbye kiss, and they both went on their separate ways. On his way back to his truck, Rad checked his messages. He realized he had his phone on Do Not Disturb mode to give his undivided attention during the proposal. He then saw an unread message from his job. "Oh," he said curiously. He saw his boss messaged him.
Tomorrow morning in office. I have something important to discuss to you.
"Uh oh, this doesn't sound like good news," he muttered to himself. Despite the positive outcome at tonight's dinner, it doesn't sound like good news was waiting for him at work. But for now, he should remain focused and wait what his boss says to him. Hopefully nothing too serious would be the case, but only time will tell.
Well, it is official. Rad and Frisky are going to be wed, and I'm so stoked on writing the events of the Sign with Lyon involved. Next chapter will involve the episode Ghostbasket, and a side story of what is expected on Rad's end on his message from his boss. Let's hope things will work out for the Heelers and Lyon.
