Elena was sitting on a bench in the cemetery writing in her journal. She still wrote in her journal, and she still did a lot of it in the cemetery. Somehow it made her feel closer to her parents to write there, even when she was hundreds of miles away from Mystic Falls.

Nowadays, Elena tended to write letters in her journal. She wrote to Jeremy and her friends. It helped her deal with not being able to see or speak to them. She told them about her life with her siblings and how much she missed them. There was still a large chance they'd never get a chance to read what she'd written or hear it from her, but it still helped to write to them, even though she couldn't send the letters.

Elena soon heard a rustle in the trees. It left her a bit on edge. She was a bit paranoid. Anyone would be when they lived the life she did. Every noise she heard, she feared was Esther or Mikael, no matter how unlikely it was that it was them. More than likely, what she was hearing was the wind.

Elena tried to ignore it and continue writing, but soon she heard a twig snap. She put her journal back in her bag and got up. "Alright, I guess paranoia wins out."

"Paranoia can be a good thing," a voice called out.

Elena froze. She knew that voice. She'd only met the man once that she could remember, but she never forgot his voice. Maybe it was because some subconscious part of her remembered him from the night he'd murdered her.

"Paranoia can keep you alive. It makes you strong. But I wouldn't expect an abomination like you to know that. I imagine you're just as weak as that little runt you call a brother," Mikael said.

Elena took a deep breath before turning around. She schooled her features so that not even an ounce of fear was detectable. She was terrified, but she refused to let him see it, although her heartbeat probably gave her away.

Mikael took a step closer to the girl. "Elena Gilbert, the doppelganger. It's quite ironic that my wife's abomination would be the one thing that could break her other abomination's curse."

Elena said nothing in response. She just stared at him stoically.

"Nothing to say? You're not even going to deny what you are? Well, at least you have an understanding that you shouldn't exist," Mikael said.

"No, I just don't feel the need to defend myself to a baby killer. Why should I care what you think?" Elena asked. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of defending herself. If she did, he would get what he wanted. She wouldn't give it to him. His opinion meant nothing to her.

Mikael chuckled. "Some beings shouldn't exist. They need to be put down as soon as they draw breath. If I had known about you when we met in Mystic Falls, I would've killed you on the spot."

Elena opened her arms up as if to invite him to do it, which was a little stupid, but she figured it he was there to kill her, he would've by now. Someone like Mikael wouldn't spend this much time talking about it. "Well, I'm right here. What's stopping you?"

"In due time," Mikael said with a smirk.

"You can't kill me. Esther won't let you. You're afraid of her, aren't you?" Elena asked. Killing her when she was an infant was one thing. Esther was too weak to stop him, and he probably didn't think of what she could do to him later, but it was different now. He knew that Esther could end him, and since he was a vampire, she'd have no qualms about it.

"Watch your tongue, girl," Mikael warned angrily.

It was Elena's turn to smirk. "I see I've hit a nerve. I always wondered something. You abused your children, but you never laid a hand on Esther. Most abusers start with the wife. Not you. I realize why now. You're afraid of her. You know she could beat you if she chose to. That's typical of an abuser like you. There's a word for it. Coward."

Mikael lunged towards her. "You little bi… Ahhh!"

Elena watched Mikael grab his head in agony from the aneurism she'd just given him. Without missing a single beat, she then began chanting a boundary spell that Freya had recently taught her. She had Mikael subdued for now, but she didn't know how long she could hold him. Plus, if he was here, Esther probably wasn't far.

As if on cue, Esther walked by just moments later. She looked down at Mikael in irritation. "I told you not to approach until I arrived."

"You didn't tell me she could do magic," Mikael said through gritted teeth.

"Yes, well, I figured if you were stupid enough to ignore my instructions, you deserved whatever you got," Esther said. She then turned to her daughter and stepped towards her. "Hello, Elena. It's time to come home now."

Elena took out her phone to send a group text to her siblings. They needed to know what was going on. At the very least, she needed Freya here.

"Sending a message to your siblings? Good. It's time to end this charade. You will all be coming with us," Esther said before she continued to advance on her daughter. However, she was soon abruptly stopped by an invisible barrier. "A boundary spell. Very impressive."

Elena didn't respond. She just sent her message and waited for a response. It didn't take long. Moments later, she received a message from Freya saying that she was on her way.

"I'm not sure whether or not I should be proud that you've come so far or disappointed that you have chosen to use your magic to keep me away. However, it won't keep me out for long. No matter how strong you think you are, I'm stronger," Esther told her.

Elena was aware of that. That was why she'd called in the cavalry. She knew she had no chance of besting Esther, but Freya did.

"Take it down, Elena, and let Mikael go. It will go much easier for you than if I have to fight my way past it," Esther told her.

Elena continued to remain silent as she waited for her siblings.

"Do not ignore me, Elena. I am your mother. When I am speaking to you, you will respond," Esther said firmly.

Elena glared at her and spoke to her for the first time. "My mother is dead. You're just the person I'm unfortunate enough to share DNA with."

"That's hurtful, dear. I thought we'd gotten past all of this. Although, that was a lie, wasn't it?" Esther asked.

"Obviously. As if I could get past you locking me up and controlling my every move for months. I said what I had to say to make my life less horrible under your roof," Elena said.

"Don't be dramatic, darling. All you had to do was obey the rules and everything would've been fine. Every parent has rules they expect to be followed," Esther said.

"I am not a child! Even if I were, normal parents don't act the way you did. They don't keep their kids under lock and key for having a justifiable reaction to shocking news. They don't have their older kid listening to every word their daughter says. You were not a parent. You were a dictator," Elena said in disgust.

"My method's may have been unorthodox, but I had my reasons, and it was for your own good. We will discuss this later. Take the boundary spell down," Esther ordered.

"No," Elena said simply.

Esther sighed. "You're only delaying the inevitable. I will get through and you will be coming with me, and your punishment will be that much more severe. Do yourself a favor and take it down now. This is your last chance."

Elena shook her head and got herself ready to start fighting. She knew she wouldn't win, but she didn't have to. She only had to last until her siblings arrived, which would hopefully be any minute now. She had to drop the aneurism she was giving Mikael. She couldn't take Esther on while continuing it, and she needed all her strength to hold Esther off.

"Very well," Esther said as she began chanting. She had barely gotten though the first few words of the spell before she was propelled backwards.

Elena turned to see Freya walking towards her. Eliijah came though with vampire speed moments later. "You two have excellent timing."

"I'm sorry, little one. It took me a minute to get your message," Elijah said.

"It's okay. You're both here now," Elena said.

"You can remove the spell now, Elena. They're not going to touch you," Freya assured her before directing her attention to both of her parents.

Esther pulled herself to her feet. "Who are you? How dare you interfere with me and my daughter?"

Freya smirked. "I wish I could say it surprised me that you don't already know the answer to that."

Elena removed the boundary spell, allowing Elijah to walk over and put a protective arm around her.

Esther smiled smugly at the blond woman in front of her. "You're out of your league, dear. I suggest you walk away."

"Mother, I believe you're the one out of her league," Elijah said as he held his sister close. "Let me put it into perspective for you. We knew you would find us eventually. We chose to stay and fight you."

"Then you're a fool. No doubt something that has rubbed off on you from one of your mother's abominations," Mikael snarled as he was finally able to stand again.

Freya felt sick listening to her father talk. She knew what a monster he was, but it became all too real as she listened to him talk so awfully about her brother and sister. "The only abominations here are the two of you."

Mikael glared at the woman before stepping towards her menacingly. "Who do you think you are, girl? I could rip your throat out in minutes."

Elena laughed before she turned to Freya. "May I, please? You have no idea the satisfaction I will take from this."

Freya chuckled. "Yeah, go ahead. He murdered you; she terrorized you. I think you've earned this."

Elena smirked and turned to Mikeal. "Mikael, say hello to your daughter."

"You are nothing to me, you little whelp!" Mikael snarled.

"Yeah, it's the little things like that that I'm grateful for. I wasn't talking about me, moron," Elena said.

"No one said he was the brightest. I think it's going to take a little more for him to get it," Freya said.

"Yeah, you're probably right… Freya," Elena said. She then turned to Esther and Mikael, both of whom looked completely flabbergasted.
