A/N In the episode, Maria, the teacher does convince her student to put down the knife, but he runs out and the ghost kills her a few minutes later. We never hear anything more about the boy. In later episodes we see Daryl mentoring a former drug addict trying to turn her life around and Henry, Paige's husband, was a parole officer who believed being a parole officer meant helping his charges turn their lives around, not just fulfill the terms of their parole, Paige referred to it as looking after his parolees. I figure Andy would be the kind of guy to be willing to do that too.

"You called them cowards?" Leo asked incredulously after Xander told them what happened with the ghosts.
"They were, Leo or at least the older one was. I think the younger one was just used to following big brother's lead and believed whatever he told him. The older one stabbed Cordelia literally in the back while she was holding baby Cole. Does that sound like someone who has the slightest concept of what courage and honor actually are? I've never known you to hesitate to run towards danger, you earned being a whitelighter, because you tried to help people. They decided all their pain was your fault because you did your job, which by the way, included helping Nathan. You didn't abandon them, you've never abandoned anyone."
"I gave up being a whitelighter."
"But you didn't give up helping people, you just chose a different way of doing it. And you were chosen to be a whitelighter for a reason, because you did good things, are still doing good things."
"Than why do I feel like I abandoned them?"
"It's called survivor's guilt, Leo. You lived and they didn't and you don't understand why you lived and they didn't. You think I don't know what that feels like? Vampires took my best friend, a guy who might as well have been my brother. Why is he dead and I'm not? Simple, he was in the wrong place when a vampire was hungry, I wasn't. They were in the path of artillery fired by a soldier on the other side who did his job better than they did."
"The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his. Patton." Leo murmured.
"Exactly, you get it, they didn't. Granted Patton said that after they died, but the sentiment holds true. Once they were your friends, Leo. They stopped being the people you knew a long time ago, if they ever were. It's time to forgive yourself for surviving. If it helps you feel better, you survived for a reason."
"What do you think that reason is?"
"There might be more then one, go to the reunion, see if there's any reasons there."
"I think I will, thanks for trying to help, Xander."
"Helping matters to me too."
The Guadalcanal reunion involved a lot of old men in uniforms, WWII uniforms and younger people in suits and pretty dresses, mingling and talking. People who'd served together once, long ago, who hadn't seen each other in years, but never forgot each other either.
"Come on. You belong here." Piper urged Leo.
"I don't know, I still don't think it's a good idea." Leo protested. "I don't know what reasons I might find here to explain why I survived and they didn't."
"Don't you?" Piper raised her eyebrow. "We'll see."
"Hey, you. Dear, god. I'm looking at a ghost." An old man exclaimed.
"Do you know him?" Piper murmured.
"Yes." Leo looked uncomfortable.
"You're related to Leo Wyatt, aren't you?" The old man asked.
"Yes, this is his grandson, Leo Wyatt the third." Piper fudged.
"Billy, Frank." The old man called two middie age men over to him. "I want you to meet the grandson of the man who made it possible for you to be born. His grandfather died, saving my life. You wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for that man."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Wyatt." One of the men shook his hand. "My dad's been telling stories about your grandpa since I was a boy. I'd like you to meet my family. Hey, guys, come here." He motioned a woman and children over to him.
"Franklin, Harry..." The old man called two other men his age over. "He's kin to Leo Wyatt. He saved your butts too." Before long Leo's hand was being shaken by other people. "And what are you doing with your life, young man?" One of them asked.
"Working toward being a doctor, it's been a dream as long as I can remember."
"And your grandfather was a medic, your inspiration?"
"You could say that, he just wanted to help, so do I."
"And the pretty lady that came in with you?"
"My wife, who never stops believing in me, even when I don't believe in myself."
Back at Xander and Cordelia's, the two were cuddling on the couch and Xander noticed Cordelia was smiling.
"What?" He asked her.
"You told Leo to go to the reunion, that he might find reasons for why he'd survived."
"Yes and I didn't mention you had a premonition about it, like you asked."
"He had to see it for himself, he's seeing the reasons in living color."
"Good, maybe it'll help him get passed his survivor's guilt."
