Kakashi panted as he wiped the blood from his eye. Everything had gotten off the rails as the battle of Konoha raged all around him. His ears rang and every sound was as if in the distance. After fighting his way out of the arena with his gennin in tow alongside Guy and other ninja of leaf he had been ambushed and had to be taken to the medical tent for treatment along side Sasuke who had taken a blow to the head. The last Uchia was blissfully unaware of the situation having been placed in a medical coma by the overworking staff to save the boy's life.
All around them nurses and doctors worked as hard as they could with what they had. A few gennin or medically trained civilians had been recruited to help with more basic task or injures to help save manpower for more critical wounded. Sakura was running around bring bandages and water for the wounded and it was clear that the girl was tired. Yet she pushed on. Kakashi was sure that he would have to get her some training in the medical arts after this as she had some talent after a doctor gave her a thumbs up after she had taken charge of a patient's wounds. Part of him was upset he never fostered the girl in more basic healing jutsu, but perhaps after this...
As he recovered his strength the man wondered why he couldn't just take out the blade himself. It wasn't like he hadn't done it before during missions. The longer he was stuck here, the more restless he got. People were dying, his comrades and friends, was it so wrong to just get it over with? With trembling fingers, Kakashi reached towards his left leg. Clenching his jaw he pulled out the blade imbedded into the muscles. With a pull and a squeezed of his eyes to the pain was the blade was pulled out of his leg.
With a silent scream the blade came out sending him jolting to the ground, blood dripping from between his fingers. But he wasn't done. With tears in his eyes he reached inside and felt around. Finding what he knew what was he was looking fore he pulled out a broken bit of metal. Panting he took out this sewing kit that thankfully was still in his pouch. With blood still on his fingers he began to sew the wound close. It would leave a scar but what was one more other than a sign he lived to fight another day?
"Kakashi-sensei!" Kakashi looked over to see Sakura moving towards him with a broken bowl of water and a more or less clean towel. A scowl was on her face as she made her way through the bodies and rubble. "What do you think you are doing!?"
Kakashi's mind raced as he gave his student one of his famous eye smiles. "My job?"
Apparently that was the wrong answer as a figure of an Oni appeared behind his student as her face seemed to darkened as she gave him a sweet smile. "What did the field nurse say about moving the broken sword blade from your leg?"
Snickers came from all around as the recovering wounded watched Kakashi shrink in fear of his student. "But Sakura-chan- AAAAAAAAH!"
Kakshi screamed as Sakura poured medical acid on the wound with a smile she hand snatched from behind the bowl. "Oops. Silly me. I was supposed to apply thise to the towel to clean it but I'm sure it'll clean that up nicely. Ka. Ka. Shi. Sensei."
Kakashi's eye widen in horror as the bowl of water tipped towards the wound. A shriek of pain rang from the medical center making the collection of Konoha ninja nearby laugh. They needed the laugh as if they did not laugh the situation would weaken their morale. Thankfully the makeshift stitched had held but Kakashi cursed his impatience.
"Seems like Kakashi pissed off another Nurse." Asuma grunted as he tossed another explosive tag at a group of enemies hiding in the building in front of him. He blocked out the screams as he prepared form the next phase of the conflict. Kurenai's hands flashed into several hand signals before nodding her head. Leaping forward he and the rest of the hag-tag group stormed the building. While a part of him hated it, the gennin were doing well in finishing off the more weakened foes while the jonin took care of the more experienced enemies. Once more the young were fighting in battles created by the actions of the older generations. He fought in the last great war as a gennin and hoped he would never have to do so again, that was why he went and protected the leader of the land of fire before coming back home. He needed time to avoid the memories of the war.
Yet it seemed that the bloody battlefields weren't done with him. "How are you all holding up?"
"Ok." Asuma frowned as Ino answered with a dull tone in her voice. Looking at the group of gennin he knew their minds were in shock still. Towering over all of Konoha was the one tailed beast in one direction while the dammed barrier trapped his father with his traitorous student who was leading this attack. Kiba was missing and their defense was slowly being overrun as pockets appearing do to the dammed Biju's use of jutsu. Thankfully it also took out a bit of the assaulting forces in it's appearance in that sector.
Kurenai's hand placed itself on the girl's shoulder. "Your holding up well Ino. Don't worry, we can still make it though the battle."
Ino's head nodded as she slowly sank to the floor, tired. Shino joined her, sipping some water he had found. Akamaru waddled over to the two and rubbed his head against her thighs. The puppy was low in spirits after becoming separated from Kiba and had found comfort with the duo. Ino's hand slowly came down and gave the dog a few scratches on the head.
"Anyone nearby Hinata?" Asuma asked as the girl came in from behind the group. Right now her and her clan were acting as messengers between pockets of the Konoha forces. With their eyes being able to see one another's hand signals the commander was able to restore at least some order after the sudden shift of the battle away from their favor. So far from what she reported last the enemy had tried to take the sewers but were repulsed after Danzo lead his forces through. Asuma did not trust the man, but his actions helped protect their flanks and the bunkers where the non combatants were hiding.
Hinata's eyes bulged as she used her bloodline with a shaking breath. Do to the use her chakra was getting low but she still was able to do her job. "No one other than us."
Asuma relaxed slightly. "That's good. At least the new field hospital can take in more wounded now without the enemy launching attacks from here. You did well, all of you."
His words of praise did little to boost the gennin's spirits. Shikamaru took a deep breath in as Choji wrapped a bandage around his friend's head. Looking up towards the distance his eyes widened.
"KIBA!?"
His shout sent all eyes towards the opening. There, in the distance was Kiba's Tsuga spiraling down at a spec on the biju's head.
"Is he insane?!" Choji yelled as he watched what seemed to be a slow fall.
Hianta took a look before her bloodline sputtered out to to chakra exhaustion. "There's someone on the forehead that he's heading towards."
'Of course.' Asuma thought as he looked towards the biju. 'The one tail is sealed into that Garaa kid. If what information we had on him was correct the one tail comes out when the boy falls asleep. If Kiba hits him and wakes him up we might be able to win this.'
The ninja of Konoha watched with abated breath, letting out cheers as Kiba landed the blow. Their spirts rose as without the monster rampaging the now could focus their attention on the Sound and Sand-
"No! No no noooo... NO WAY DID YOU REALLY THINK THAT WAS GOING TO WORK!"
The mocking voice filled the air like the tolls of a death bell. Hinata cried out in horror as Kiba was smacked out of the air, disappearing from view. Asuma had to physically restrain Kurena who was ready to run to the aid of her student.
"Get a hold of yourself!" He barked at her. "We're in a warzone! Shikamaru! Bind her here!"
"Dam you Asuma!" Kurenai yelled at him as his student's shadow snaked forward and trapped her in place. Her face made his heart ache but going on a suicide mission to avenged her student was not going to keep her other two alive. But this was war.
Turning his back to the monster he looked at each of his team. "Listen up. We are to keep to the plan. Under the cellar should be an old tunnel from the early days of Konoha. It runs only a few dozen feet before ended at the old border before the first Hokage placed the wall that surrounds the village into place. When we move we must be as quiet as possible. We'll likely pop up at the well in the square. Shino, are your insects ready yet to do their part?"
Shino pushed up his glasses and nodded, conserving his energy.
"Ino?"
The girl groaned as she was looked at. "Yeah I know. Do you think I like doing this plan?"
The plan was simple. Shino would use his insects to manipulate a wire around the feet of the Sand chunin. Once that was done Ino would use her clan's jutsu to tighten the wire to ensnare them. He would then do the rest as he counted the number of senbon he had on him. Eight.
'Dam.' he cursed as he fingered them. If they were lucky eight would be all they needed. If necessary he could kill more than one by using wind chakra, but that was limited. He would have to leave the safely of the well to fight hand to hand if he missed, risking the discovery of the smuggler tunnel and giving the enemy access to bypass the Konoha lines. But the risk was one of the reasons he was made a jonin. "We move in three minutes. Kurenai, are you going to keep it together?"
The woman looked at him with tear stains on her face. But she pulled herself together and nodded. She would stay behind and watch over the tunnel with Shikamaru and Choji. If they failed or if had not returned by a set amount of time they would collapse the tunnel. Even if it meant killing their teammates. Seeing her reaction Shuikamaru undid the jutsu. Asuma watcher her carefully but he did not flee. He even flared his chakra to check to see if this wasn't an illusion or trip but she came clean. Kiba's puppy whined and pawed her making her pick it up and give the young dog a few rubs on the head.
"... Just come back. Please." She whispered as Ausma moved towards the stairs.
"I will."
