Match Made In Corporate Heaven

Chapter 8

Bliss

Eliza and William were married a month later in Scotland. They had secured the running of the business to Arabella. Since her husband was the corporation's banker it was the logical choice. Arabella gave William a farewell kiss and said "It was fun while it lasted. I hope she is everything you wanted."

As William was standing beside Eliza when this exchange happened, Eliza stepped forward. She looked up at William who looked back at her and knew what she was going to tell her.

"Don't you worry, Arabella. William will be well cared for. As for you, this is your chance to prove you have more brains than body when it comes to the corporate world. Good luck." Eliza did not expect a 'thank you' to herself or William for this opportunity, so the hurt and haughty look from Arabella was about all the thank you William and Eliza knew could expect.

As for Eliza's division, she left the company in some very capable hands with her former fiancé, Patrick Nash. Upon learning of her intended nuptials with William Wellington, Nash shook William's hand and said, "It looks like the best man won."

As Eliza was standing next to William upon hearing that statement, Eliza stepped forward and kissed Patrick on the cheek saying: "If you let my company go bankrupt, I will travel back from Scotland and personally shoot you."

"Eliza!" William exclaimed. "That's a little drastic, don't you think?"

Patrick laughed and said, "I would expect no less from our corporate queen."

They flew to Edinburgh a few days later after shooting off texts and emailed invitations to their immediate friends and loved ones. Neither had siblings nor their parents were living, so the list of invitees was rather intimate. The small list of individuals they flew in were Ivy (Eliza's surrogate mother) with her husband Barnabas, Hattie and her polish husband, Oliver Fitzroy (William's friend and indispensable corporate assistant) and his girlfriend, Clara. William had invited a few other friends.

"I have a decidedly lack of male friends, don't I?" William asked Eliza when they were totaling the final tally for the wedding and reception.

Eliza looked at his side of the list and smiled.

"That's because you have been more attractive to the ladies than the men, my love," Eliza said placing a hand over his.

Then looking at the list again her eyes became wide as she noticed a missing person.

"William, you forgot to invite Moses."

William slapped his forehead with his palm.

"I knew I was forgetting someone. Moses! How could I forget him?"

"I don't know, but do you know how to get in touch with him. Was he not in Paris the last time you talked?"

"Yes, but that was over a year ago. I will just have to email him since I am rather certain that his phone number has been changed since last year."

Eliza and he were sitting the in the kitchen of an apartment they were temporarily renting until they could decide where they wanted to live. William had promised a real honeymoon in the highlands including hiking through the hills and dales. It was twofold because William really wanted to see any feasibility in opening up a hotel or building an Air BnB so others could enjoy the beautiful landscape of Scotland and still have some accessibility to civilization.

Days before the wedding were spent with nary a care of their former corporate lives. Eliza was committed to the promise she made to William during that night at the Jersey shore that she would do her best to eschew the corporate life. He did say that she was allowed to stay in touch with Patrick just to be sure that everything was running smoothly.

William trusted Arabella because she was too selfish and too smart to allow the conglomerate to fall into the wrong hands. As Eliza had told her this was her chance to prove herself. Frankly, William did not care. The whole thing could go by the wayside, and he would still not care. The only item he worried about was the customers and the employees themselves. He had, from the background, improved the conglomerate by instituting better policies and making the right decisions. However, he had worked with Arabella long enough to know she was very smart and loved the whole mechanical and technical workings of the corporations. He did have confidence there was no danger of his shareholder checks drying up. However, as William had told Eliza one night, "if the money dries up, the money dries up and we survive." Eliza had kissed him and told him she admired his attitude.

All William wanted was to be married to Eliza, the woman of his dreams, open his own little business and raise a couple of children. He just hoped that after the year was up, he would not lose his wife to the corporate commute. He would keep his part of the bargain. He did not see himself as becoming dissatisfied as long as Eliza still loved him and was happy with him.

The wedding was a small wildly happy affair. The intimate reception was held at a local restaurant where all the waiters wore the 'kilt'. Eliza loved William's wedding outfit as she walked down the aisle alone for William was clad in full Scots bridegroom regalia: Tartan (Clan plaid), Kilt, Sporran, and socks. She was also touched to see Williams' eyes were a bit misty when he watched her descend the aisle in her white form fitting gown and veiled pill box hat sitting pertly on her head.

"You should show off your legs more often," Eliza teased William when he took her hand and kissed it. "I am a lucky woman."

William blushed, unusual for him. "I was just going to say how beautiful you look. Tease me like that again and I will punish you for it."

"Sign me up," Eliza teased.

They both smiled into each other's eyes as the gravity of the situation overcame their banter.

The wedding vows were taken ending with rings and a kiss.

At the reception, Moses, a tall, large dark skinned Jamaican who was responsible for helping William in a bad situation many years ago stood up tapping his champagne glass as he wanted to make a speech.

"Many years ago, a man around my age, came to Jamaica and got himself in a bit of trouble with some people he should not have been talking to. I saved his life, but in all the years since, William Wellington saved my life by giving me a unique position and paying me well. As you begin your new life with beautiful Eliza, if there is anything you need or if there is anything I can do for you, you only need to ask. Here's to the bride and groom."

William and Eliza applauded and then they smiled at him and held their glasses up to him.

They then drank another wedding toast and another wedding toast.

Eventually Eliza and William were on their way to a honeymoon hotel suite when Eliza asked, "What was it that Moses did to save your life, anyway?"

William chuckled and smirked to himself.

"Ah Eliza I promise I will tell you someday."

"But…"

"Someday."

TWO YEARS LATER

A small blonde hair child ran giggling to her daddy, he swung her up in the air, tickled her belly with his nose and did circles with her in his arms. It was a beautiful day in June in the Scottish Highlands. The little girl's plaid pattern matched the plaid on her daddy's kilt. She was a miniature of his wife.

Elspeth Lavinia Wellington was born exactly one year after Eliza and William married. When Eliza discovered she was pregnant, she knew William would be more than ecstatic. It was a shock to her, but she had been so happy and considered handing the reins of her now independent corporation permanently to Patrick who with his skill had enlarged the corporation and they became more profitable than ever.

After the year she promised William, Eliza found herself in a precarious position. She loved running her company, but she loved her husband and her new daughter. She discussed back and forth with William regarding what would be best.

"You know you can do both, Eliza. I'm not going anywhere. The conglomerate is doing better than ever, and our little Air BNB is thriving. We now have our child. Are you happy?"

Eliza came to him and put her arms around him and laid her head on his chest. "I'm happier than I ever imagined."

"Then I think you've made your decision."

Eliza handed the day-to-day running to Patrick and Eliza remained in Scotland only traveling to the London if it was absolutely necessary. She checked in as she was supposed to and gave guidance if there were any questions. It was not the way it used to be when she thrived on shareholders' meetings, corporate takeovers, and endless nights of strategic thinking.

Now her days and nights were filled with her husband and she taking turns cooking meals, feeding their daughter, kissing her goodnight, reading her fairytales. Also there were those times where she and William could just sit and enjoy each other's company. Many times those evenings ended in passionate lovemaking with her husband.

As for William, he was still so deeply in love with his wife and loved being a father to little Elsie (her nickname) that he woke up everyday and thanked God that Eliza came back to him because now he had the life that he ever really wanted.
