No-One But You (The Star Child's Eclipse)
Chapter 38: Strange Talk (Part 8)
…
Wade Wilson's persistent noise and non-stop fidgeting might have forced the Surveillant Council to take an extended break… but Tony Stark was far from done.
…
Stark's demeanor seemed sharper than normal, so Victor Von Doom gave him another look before he stood up from his seat and left the deliberation room.
In Doom's "expert" opinion, that pretentious little spoon-fed snob was up to something… or behaving as if he uncovered something of worth.
The man really had nothing to say in regards to the underhanded ruler of the Ten Rings, and he said all he felt like saying about the Scarlet Witch and Ezekiel Stane…
…
Tony's eyes were locked on Doom too as he passed by. He watched the ruler of Latveria venture his way out of the deliberation room, then turn left.
Stark went back to digging around on his screen as a conversation started circulating amongst the rest of the Surveillant Council.
They didn't mind taking a break, actually, and they all understood Wade's energy spikes like you wouldn't believe.
…
Doom's insight on "Vision" had approximately half of Tony's interest, and he started looking into what the synthezoid was doing right there in that moment.
Hmm… everything in Tony's body started telling him that Victor Von Doom was setting up a smoke screen, or possibly using the "Vision" he created with Ezekiel Stane to distract him from where he was really digging.
Tony never really went against his gut instinct, so he made a mental note to increase the way he was monitoring Vision, and he planned to backtrack on his movements later…
…
Those details are bringing us way out in the weeds tho, so Tony got rid of those screens until his eyes happened upon someone's crisp clean shirt.
Steve Rogers moved his seat in a half-step closer, and he started looking over all of Tony's business that he had up on a dozen or so screens.
…
"He's not off the hook yet. I've barely scratched the surface…"
…
"I know. Are you hungry?"
…
Hungry? Tony smiled. He glanced over at that powder blue shirt a couple times too, then his mind started wandering off for a sec.
He was hungry for a little more of what Steve was doing early that morning, before his routine run all around the friggen state.
Tony kept that thought to himself, but Steve could tell he was thinking about something other than food.
They both moved in all close, and Steve almost said something about what they both witnessed… with Wade and Ezekiel.
Seeing those two interact like that simply warmed Steve's big ol' heart, especially because it contradicted the overly-professional vibe and tone of the meeting.
…
Oh. Right. Details matter, so Steve and Tony's eyes locked onto Charles Xavier as he excused himself from the room.
That "conversation" was about to be facilitated elsewhere, so Tony's eyes started hunting around for Wade.
He took off as fast as he could, ran for the hills, and who the fuck knows where the goofy mercenary went.
…
"Thank EFFING GAWD Charles is dealing with that random hot mess, and yes… I could eat something."
…
Tony playfully smiled again, then his eyes started migrating over toward the section of the table that was dominated by two members of the Strange family.
Sofia was currently in a "consultation" with her parents, so she was doing some of that meditative floaty stuff.
She was telling Clea and Stephen what she learned, as if they didn't know. Tony figured they had eyes and ears in the room the entire time, and statistically speaking… the brunette was sure that Stephen was already hot on the trail of the Scarlet Witch.
If she was fucking with Clea, then oooohhh… boy, shit was gunna get mega ugly for sure.
…
Oh look, another war was brewing just outside the room. Tony's attention migrated back toward the door, and he snagged a glimpse of Ezekiel Stane.
Obadiah's baby boy was quietly following Xavier's lead, heading left, so that means Wade Wilson was… where?
That portion of the meeting was WAYYY out of Tony's hands, and the feisty inventor was beyond grateful for that…
