No-One But You (The Star Child's Eclipse)

Chapter 39: Strange Talk (Part 9)

Some members of the Stalker Council lost track of where the infamous Wade Wilson went after some time slipped right on by… but rest assured he was just out in the hallway.

Ezekiel left him there all on his lonesome, cuz he had to chat with his shrink, remember?

Deadpool didn't have a moment to fully take in and process some recent events, because he felt the barrel of a gun against his back as soon as Ezekiel's cute lil face stepped out of sight.

Someone shoved a gun against his back, and told Wade to keep his hands up and away from his weapons.

Whoa.

Wade chuckled a little when he heard that shit, cuz the voice was definitely ringing a bell.

The merc almost reached for one of his swords as he glanced behind him.

It could have been an ambush, or something, but that thought subsided as soon as Wade saw who it was.

Emily Preston had finally arrived at the scene, and her instructions from Charles Xavier were very clear.

She was there to distract the infamous Deadpool, and Emily was told that she needed to keep him from pacing around the office door.

She had an update for him, if he was interested and ready to hear it, and Charles thought it was a perfect distraction.

"What the fuck are you doing here, Wade?"

"I could ask you the same thing. HEY, and when did you start shoving your dick around like that? My back might have a bruise…"

Hah. Emily Preston was an older woman, and she didn't take any shit from the likes of Wade Wilson at all…

She smiled at him, then she glanced over at the task at hand. The office door was closed, so the former mercenary got to work on her distraction.

"That's your line of work Wade, not mine. Wanna walk with me a little? I have an update on Ellie for you, if you're ready…"

Emily just walked anyway. Her mind was compelled to lure Deadpool out of that hallway, so she walked.

The mercenary skipped along after her, but of course he gave that office door another look.

Walking away from Ezekiel's location was beginning to feel very odd. Wade hella noticed that as he followed along after his former co-worker.

Uhh, heads up… Emily Preston legally adopted a little girl named Eleanor, who just so happened to be Wade's daughter.

Emily was married, she had a son of her own, and in some circles… her life was pretty solid, stable, and normal.

Oh, and anything relatively close to normal was just fine and dandy with Wade. And, deep down he knew that his daughter was better off without him.

He wasn't sure if he wanted an update, cuz, it had been a long time… and the merc was terrified on the down-low.

"Ellie's doing well in school, and she's getting along with her brother and her friends. We got her a dog the other day, so she gets a sense of responsibility…"

Emily put her handgun away as she walked, and Wade caught a glimpse of Eleanor on her cellphone.

She wanted to show him a picture of her, and she started looking for clues within Wade's reaction.

He wasn't… avoiding her, but yeah, well… he totally was. It broke his heart to see her, actually, because the mercenary felt like a fucking failure.

Wade also had his fair share of enemies, and those psycho fucks were the reason why Ellie's mother died in the first place.

Yikes.

Some old war wounds were back to haunt the merc's broken soul, and the PTSD was back to the fucking max.

"What kind of dog did you get her?"

"An English Boxer. It seemed fitting, for some reason."

Oh?

Wade made himself a mental note to look into what type of dog that was, because he actually didn't know jack shit about dogs…

Uhh, he was just going with the flow of stuff. Making small talk, but his heart kept glancing back.

He hadn't spent a ton of time away from Ezekiel since he was brought "back to life," or whatever.

They actually hadn't left each other's side since his big return, so Wade's nerves started going berserk again.

"Wanna know what she named him?"

The dog. Uhh. Wade slowly swallowed down his initial thought, because it was naturally sarcastic and crude.

He wasn't thinking as straight as he'd like, because he kinda wanted to head back in the other direction.

Protecting Ezekiel was also his thing too… remember he offered up his services to Ezekiel a long time ago, and then some.

"She calls him powwow, but I don't know if that's considered offensive today… or some shit. Either way, that's what she picked."

Emily Preston was super chill. Wade always liked her vibe, and he thought about how responsible she always was when they worked together as a "team."

Wade's team assembling skills always kinda sucked, but he got one thing right in that regard.

Oh, right. Powwow was totalllllyyy considered offensive nowadays, but Ellie was just a kid… so who the fuck cares…
