Shame we never got to see these scenes as we know Constance must have been in a state for Amelia to hurry back. Based on Worthless by milbroom!

Nothing To Fear My Little Birdie

Constance opened another book to start marking, when there was suddenly the sound of someone appearing from no-where. Knowing there was only one person it would be, Constance jumped so aggressively in shock, she knocked the books she was marking off the table, and knocked over her ink which spilled all over her wooden desk.

"You seem a bit jumpy today Constance" the cold voice of Broomhead commented. Constance froze, her fears suddenly coming in full force as she realised she was alone with Broomhead in a room at night.

"I see you still don't sleep, good, you know how much time it wastes" Broomhead told her.

"I...just needed to finish my marking Mistress Broomhead" Constance replied in a shaky voice. Constance was so paralysed by fear at that moment, she didn't even realise the spilled ink was slowly dripping onto the floor, and her pyjamas.

Hearing the footsteps of Broomhead getting closer, Constance's breaths started to get faster.

"I just wanted to say…." Broomhead said standing inches from her desk. "I am ashamed of you Constance, ending up working here, with that soft touch headmistress" Broomhead said.

"She's not!" Constance shouted looking at her old tutor. Seeing the daggers in her cold eyes, Constance closed her eyes, preparing for punishment for answering back.

"Have you gone soft? You have learned to care about someone? That is the ultimate weakness" Broomhead told her.

"She has never giving me a reason not to" Constance replied. Broomhead laughed evilly. The sound was one that often still kept Constance up at night.

"She hasn't? Where is your precious headmistress now then Constance? She doesn't care about you or she wouldn't have left" Broomhead replied, knowing exactly what she was doing.

"Her aunt is sick" Constance replied.

"Yes, family is everything to her, you are the bottom of the barrel, and she only tolerates you, just like everyone else in your pathetic life ever has" Broomhead sneered. Constance could feel tears pricking at the back of her eyes, but forced herself not to cry in front of her.

"Well now that you know what, have a pleasant night Constance" Broomhead said disappearing.

Constance suddenly realised her lap felt wet and only then noticed the spilled ink. Something inside her that she had been trying to keep inside for days snapped at that moment and she burst into tears.

She cried for a few minutes wondering what to do. She knew she had grown to care too much for Amelia, and Broomhead was correct, she came last when it came to Amelia's family, but somehow despite that, she had to talk to her, even if it wasn't the outcome she wanted. She was on the verge of running and never returning.

She quickly stood up and pulled the emergency phone of the receiver before she could change her mind, dialling the number Amelia had given her.

It rang a few times and Constance's fear intensified that she wouldn't answer, but then, there was a crackle and a soft sweet voice saying 'Hello Amelia Cackle, who is calling please?" Amelia asked.

"Amelia…" Constance got out so quietly it was almost a whisper.

"Constance dear? Are you having trouble sleeping again?" Amelia asked her.

"I...I...I can't do it anymore Amelia" Constance said wiping her streaming eyes.

"Do what dear?" Amelia said.

"Broomhead...she's back...she's temporary headmistress, and even being in the same building as her...I am sorry Amelia...I need to run...I can't do it anymore" Constance said by this point sobbing.

Amelia didn't respond straight away as if taking it all in as she tried to think what to say.

"Oh poor thing, I had no idea!" Amelia said.

"I...am ….scared….she is going to hurt me again...make me question everything...I can't be in this world anymore if she is here" Constance said, her breathing getting erratic. She tried to catch her breathe and was horrified to realise she couldn't.

"Constance? Connie, breathe for me sweetheart" Amelia yelled down the phone, panicking.

"I...can't…" Constance replied.

"You are having a panic attack, you need to calm down, in through your mouth, out through your nose, can you sit down? I'm here my love just please calm yourself" Amelia said.

Constance rushed to her chair and fell into it, following Amelia's orders and focusing on her breathing until it was normal.

"Don't do anything stupid, I am coming back in the morning, just a few more hours Constance, please just keep calm for that long" Amelia said, wanting to leave right there but knowing flying across the country in the pitch black when it was raining wasn't wise.

"Thank you" Constance sobbed out as she hanged up, still not able to convince herself she would come back.

The next morning, as Amelia came into view, Constance felt her breathing getting fast again. She couldn't believe she was actually there. Amelia landed and walked to her until she was stood a few inches in front of her.

Constance opened her mouth to speak, but was overcome by the fact Amelia had come back for her, no-one had ever come back for her before. Amelia stared at her deputy for a few moments. In the mere days she had been gone, she looked like she did when they first met, pale and sick. She knew she had made the right decision coming back. She said nothing, knowing words wouldn't help and instead gently pulled the younger witches body into her arms, enveloping her into a hug.

Constance was shocked by the action. She had improved a lot over the years but Amelia knew she still wasn't a fan of physical affection, but then she took in the familiar smell of Amelia's perfume, which Constance always complained smelled far to sickly sweet, but that day that familiar smell made her lose her composure.

She melted into the hug and sobbed hard, leaning her head on her bosses shoulder and holding onto her arm for dear life, as if she would disappear if she didn't hold her hard enough.

"Shh it's okay sweetheart I am here" Amelia said rubbing her back, feeling her trembling through absolute fear.

Constance was aware of the fact someone could see them, but for once she didn't care. Her safety net had returned and she was not going to let her go again anytime soon.

"That's it lovely, get it all out" Amelia said closing her eyes as she spoke gently to her.

Constance found it hard to stop but she eventually stopped crying after a while but she still didn't let go, she wasn't quite ready to pull away yet. Instead she spoke softly into her shoulder.

"You came back…" Constance said still unable to believe it.

"Of course Connie, you needed me, and my aunt isn't as sick as we thought" Amelia replied rubbing her arm gently.

"Thank you Amelia, I love you" Constance said without a hint of hesitation. If Broomhead overheard her now she would never let her forget her weakness at feeling love, but Constance was knew she felt it.

"And you know I love you too, and there is nothing to fear anymore, I will always find a way to come back to you my little birdie" Amelia told her, meaning every word.
