Recap...
Which earned him a swift punch into the back of his head in retaliation. Sakura couldn't help but laugh softly at the scene, her lips pursing.
Around them, people began to move the other crew back into their ship, piling them up along with their captain. Fixing the sails and letting them detach from the Moby.
Sakura continued to chat idly with the group around her. Content for the time being, her mind drifting away from Konoha and her friends. Unable to help but almost feel at home... here- with this odd bunch of pirates.
Ace hadn't waken up in two days. Which was typically normal for someone with a head injury or received one. So Sakura wasn't too worried. Nor did Marco or Whitney seem upset either. Which calmed her nerves just slightly.
In those two days, nothing out of the ordinary happened. She kept away from Teach, after all, the guy creeped her out. Sakura hung out with Thatch occasionally. But never in the kitchen. It was well known in Konoha how Sakura couldn't cook. She didn't want to embarrass herself and try here- either.
Marco and Whitney had mentioned talking with Oyaji and the commanders about accepting her in the first division as a doctor. Which made Sakura giddy. She hadn't healed somebody in two days! Which was a lot. Seeing as she was usually so swapped in the hospital.
But they hadn't received a confirmation yet. So Sakura assumes it was still under discussion.
Sighing to herself, she idly watched Ace's unconscious form. The kid was either a deep sleeper, or stubborn. Whitney had stuck her on "watch duty" as she put it. Waiting for the teen to wake up. Then once that happened, she'd howler for Marco.
Placing her chin in the palm of her hand, Sakura blinked back some drowsiness.
Eyes fluttering, she almost missed the minuscule twitch from the boys body. Opening her eyes, she watched quietly.
Another twitch. And then another. Until the teen groaned, moving his stiff muscles. Finally waking up. Standing from her chair, she used the small amount of time before he fully woke up, to move towards the door and peek her head out. Telling one of the nurses to grab Marco.
Sakura made her way back towards the bed. Sitting back down in her chair. Sagging as she watched.
Ace groaned quietly, and sat up. Or at least tried to, Sakura mused. Smiling when the teen faltered and fell back to the bed with a huff. Laying there still for three days about, did a lot to your muscles. Adding the sea stone cuffs in the beginning probably didn't help either.
Before Sakura to gain the teens attention. The door behind her opened, and she tilted her head back.
Marco and Thatch both entered. Thatch carrying a plate of food and some water. Grinning at her as she made eye contact.
"He's finally waking up, huh -yoi?" Marco murmured amused, walking to stand beside her along with Thatch.
Sakura nodded, and the three fell silent. Content on waiting for the boy to notice them first.
Which he did. Eventually. Eyes widening as he stared between the three of them. Then darting around to the room. "What the fuck." Ace cursed, and Sakura rose a brow.
"Portgas D. Ace, I'm Marco- this is Thatch." Marco spoke up first, grinning down at the younger man.
Thatch waved. Sakura cleared her throat, gaining their attention. "Sakura Haruno. But we've met briefly." She murmured.
Ace narrowed his eyes at her, glaring at the three of them. "Yeah, you said you weren't affiliated with the Whitebeards though. Yet ya see affiliated." Ace sneered, before setting his eyes on Marco and Thatch.
"Where's my crew?" Ace asked, his tone too aggressive despite his calm appearance. But Sakura noted the tense shoulders, the small twitch to his mouth. He was clearly worried.
"They're safe." Marco answered. Moving to the side of the bed. Ace scooted away, if that was even possible. And Sakura had to repress a snort at Marco's irritated face.
"I brought some food, figured you'd be hungry after not eating for... three days?" Thatch offered before Marco said something too mean.
Ace lifted his nose up to him. "No. Absolutely not. You probably poisoned it." He uttered. Like that made sense.
Sakura cocked her head, meeting Marco's exasperated expression.
If they had wanted to kill him. Either Edward would have done so in the beginning. Or she could have simply stopped his heart with a small ounce of her chakra. Sakura thought to herself. Before shaking her head. No use of telling the teen that. Unless the wished to make him more aggressive.
Which surprisingly, he was rather calm. For someone who woke up on an enemy ship
"We didn't- I would never poison someone with my food." Thatch said, looking appalled.
Ace scoffed, crossing his arms. "Unlikely."
Thatch opened his mouth, but Marco lifted his hand up. Silencing the chef. "That doesn't matter. But you need to eat eventually. Malnutrition isn't healthy nor safe. And I won't let something as stupid as that kill someone in my medical bay." Marco told the teen.
Ace merely rolled his eyes, keen on staying stubborn. Sakura tilted her head, eyeing the boy. Before huffing out annoyed.
"I can paralyze him. Ya know, so you can feed him." Sakura offered after a beat of silence.
Marco and Thatch both snapped their heads in her direction. Marco looked shocked, and Thatch's mouth was too the floor. Ace choked somewhere in the back.
"Absolutely not. No paralyzing- what- how?" Marco uttered confused, shaking his head.
"Shinobi thing. It's something Tsunande did to my friend when he refused to eat. I mean... it works?" Sakura explained. Shrugging her shoulders.
"Don't think I'll sit here and let you fucking paralyze me!" Ace exclaimed loudly, pointing a finger in Sakura's direction. Like a cat with its back raised defensively.
Slowly, Sakura raised her hands up in surrender. "It was a suggestion. I won't do it if asked not to." She says.
Ace eyes her suspiciously, more tense than before. Perhaps saying that with him in the premises wasn't the best idea. Oh well, she thought.
"Well, since he's awake, I'm going to go inform Oyaji. Do what you will." Marco grumbled, shaking his head at Thatch and her. Before turning around and leaving.
Thatch placed the plate of food down, by the bed. Mentioned something before bidding Sakura goodbye and heading back to the kitchen. Probably to prepare for dinner. Which should be soon.
Sakura pursed her lips, looking towards the door- then back towards Ace. Standing their awkwardly. Hands on her hips.
Ace was quiet, eyeing her as well. Before sneering when they made eye contact. "What the hell are you standing there for?" He growled.
"Cause." Sakura answered automatically.
Ace's eyebrows furrowed at the weird answer. And Sakura wanted to hit herself over the head. It was like she was turning into Naruto. Which scared her more than Kaguya.
"Then leave!?" Ace yelled at her.
Sakura hummed throughtfully, contemplating her options. "Fine. But I want to see you eat first." Sakura concludes.
Ace's mouth fell open, speechless for a moment. Before his face filled with anger and disbelief. "No! I'm not eating whatever that man made." Ace argued.
"Thatch, is his name. And his food is amazing. Plus, I know how worried he'll be if you don't eat." Sakura mused, shrugging her shoulders.
Ace huffed, shaking his head. Sakura narrowed her eyes, pointing to him than to the food.
"I'm not eating it." Ace states again, more firmly than before. Sakura crosses her arms.
"What are you? A child?" She asks, sounding amused. Sakura watches disbelief wash over the teens face, before it contorts to anger.
"I'm not a fucking child!" He growls, and shifts forward offensively. Sakura's eyes the small flames flickering on the kids shoulders. Unsure whether or not she should stop goading him or not.
"Yet you won't eat a simple meal? Shall I test each and every piece of food in that plate to show you it's safe?" Sakura asks, looking down at the food.
Despite her trying to be genuine. Even if the food did have poison, she wouldn't die. Being immune to most poisons thanks to Tsunande's training. Ace seems to consider her offer quietly, before nodding quickly.
Sakura rolls her eyes, and moves to sit beside his bed. Grabbing the plates fork and silently trying a small piece of each on the plate. Grinning at Ace, Sakura places the fork down. "See? I'm not dead." She says.
Ace crosses her arms over his chest, eyeing her- than the food. Before looking off to the side. Clearly done speaking.
Sakura's eye twitches. "I tried the food, now you're going to eat damn it." Sakura grits out, trying to keep her calm.
'The nerve of this kid!' She thinks angrily.
"No." Ace says firmly. Stubbornly.
'A small hit wouldn't hurt right? Right..?! Ugh!' Sakura fumes, standing up and staring down at the teen in the bed.
Taking in a breath, Sakura closes her eyes. Trying to calm herself. Thinking of Tsunade, Ino, even Sasuke. Before opening her eyes and smiling.
"When I come back, the plate better be empty kid. Or I'll go through with my threat and paralyze you." Sakura states.
Ace raises his brows, shifting around anxiously. Face pinched as he assess's her. "Isn't that unethical.. for doctors." Ace murmurs.
Sakura's grin only grows wider, her scary grin as Naruto would put it. "I'll use any means necessary to make sure my patients are healthy. Ethical's don't matter." She answers.
Before giving him a glare and turning around. Walking from the room. Ace mutters something, but it's much too quiet for her to make out.
"He's getting on my nerves and he just woke up." Sakura grumbles when she exits.
A laugh sounds from the side, and Sakura lifts her head up to meet Whitney's gaze.
"Oyaji wants to speak with you. I'll take care of that rookie." Whitney says, nodding.
Sakura huffs a laugh. "Good luck." She mutters bitterly. Which earns her a pat on the back as she passes the taller woman.
"I've dealt with stubborn rookies before. Let's say I'm a pro." Whitney jokes. Before walking towards the med bay. Sakura rolls her eyes at the joke, before heading towards the top of the deck. Wondering what Edward wished to speak about.
Hopefully it would be about her occupation as a doctor. And her joining under the first division. Oh how sSakura longed to start healing again. Hands and chakra itching to be used.
