Author's Note from Mat49324: After thirty-seven one-shots, is anybody up for another one? I sure hope so because I thought of something pretty nice! If you saw my last one-shot, it dealt with the spies celebrating the 4th of July at the beach. You already know that all three of the spy girls have their own boyfriends in our series, but this is something I couldn't pass up. I've been thinking about how many times the spies were caught in the rain, and well... you get the idea. Anyway, for now, here's The Blue Time Ranger if he's got something he'd like to say.

Author's Note from The Blue Time Ranger:I wonder if Mat could predict weather or something, because the same day I started helping him with this oneshot, we get the first substantial rainfall in a while in my neck of the woods, literally as I started writing. How the heck does that work? Well, let's not worry about weird weather patterns and get to this thing we're doing? ROLL IT!

Title: Somewhere in the Rain

Summary: Can getting caught in the rain be romantic or a nightmare?

Rating: K

Story Created: 10/11/24

1:02 P.M. – The Spies' Beach House

It was an overcast day at the spies' beach house. The spies were all relaxing indoors... save for Nick and Alex.

"I keep thinking the rain's going to come sooner or later," Mat told the others.

"You aren't alone, Mat," Sam replied, coming to the window with him.

"At least we aren't caught in the rain this time," Clover commented.

"Or outside, for that matter," Britney chuckled.

"That'll be a nightmare in itself," Blaine stated.

"Totally," Clover replied, remembering back when she and Alex were walking home in the rain and were splashed by a car passing through a puddle. (A/N: Remember S1's Evil Boyfriend?)

"I just see rain as a nightmare with only one exception," Mat commented.

"A swimsuit on?" Sam guessed.

"Exactly," Mat replied. "It makes sense, right?"

"Well, I can't disagree," Blaine commented.

"Pretty much," Clover quipped. "After all, you're gonna get wet in a swimsuit regardless, right?"

"...hey, yeah, I never really saw it that way," Britney admitted.

"Even so, I probably wouldn't do it," Mat admitted.

"But rainy weather can be memorable... no two ways about that," Britney added.

"Totally, Brit," Clover quipped.

That was when Mat looked around and saw Nick and Alex were not present at all; simultaneously, that heavy rain started to fall at the same time.

"Did anybody see Nick and Alex anywhere?" Mat wondered.

Blaine looked out one of the other windows.

"I think your mind was read, Mat," Blaine replied.

The others got a look themselves, and they all saw Nick and Alex doing their best to rush through the rain, though Nick didn't seem to have his umbrella, and there was somebody else behind them.

Britney quickly jumped to her feet so she could unlock the front door and allow a thoroughly soaked Nick and Alex to rush into the house, with an equally-soaked May right behind them.

"Holy jeez, you guys okay?" Clover gasped.

"Yeah, wet as heck, but we're okay," Alex quipped.

"What happened? I mean, besides the obvious," Blaine wondered.

"We tried to book it for home when we noticed the rain was about to start falling, but we got caught in it anyway, and there weren't really any cabs around," Nick stated. "And it got really windy for just a bit. ...my poor umbrella did not survive the trip."

"Ouch, that's gotta stink," Britney replied. "That happened to me a few times, too."

"So, what's your story, May?" Sam asked.

"About the same, really," May sighed. "I was just coming home from that little Smash game with my friends, and suddenly it starts raining cats and anvils, so I try to run as fast as I can without slipping. Thank goodness I ran into Nick and Alex on my way and they said I could hang here until the rain blows through."

"Now we just need to get out of these wet rags and into something dry before I turn into a popsicle!" Alex sputtered, to which everyone had a good laugh.

With that, the three of them headed upstairs to change into some dry clothes while May called her parents to let her know that she'd be staying here until the rain let up.

While the rest of the spies discussed what to do now, Nick noticed that Alex was looking outside at the rain.

"Everything okay, Alex?" Nick wondered.

"It kinda feels like someone's sad," Alex stated. "I remember when I was a kid, I always used to think that the weather was reflective of somebody's emotions."

"We all have interesting ideas when we were kids," Nick quipped.

"Oh, tell me about it," May chuckled.

"Well, rainy weather CAN be memorable..." Nick commented.

"No doubt it can," May replied.

Alex overheard that, despite she was away from Nick and May, and she only had a towel on before she could come out. Despite discarding her wet clothing, she knew this had to be a chance that was too good to pass up.

Would he want to...? Alex thought.

Her extra thoughts got interrupted when she heard knocks.

"Alex, May and I have to change, too," Nick stated from outside.

"...coming," Alex stuttered.

Seeing no way out of things, Alex unlocked the door.

"Actually, Nick, can I... ask you something quickly?" Alex requested.

"Uh... sure," Nick stuttered.

May decided to change near the spies' mirror since the wait was becoming a lot longer than she anticipated.

"What's going on, Alex?" Nick wondered as he kept his towel around his neck to prevent a cold from coming on.

"I know this... might sound a little bit silly, but..." Alex started before composing herself. "May said something that got me thinking, and, well..."

"Don't keep me in suspense, silly, what did you wanna do?" Nick asked.

"When May said that rainy weather can be memorable sometimes, it put a bit of a funny idea in my head," Alex admitted. "And I kinda wanted to see if... you'd like to indulge in my silly little idea..."

"Hey, I'm willing to try anything at least once," Nick chuckled. "So lay it on me."

Luckily, May had a change of clothes with her and used them before returning to the rest of the spies.

"So, how'd it go, May?" Clover wondered.

"Oh, I was kicking Souji's keester in this time," May chuckled. "He got way too cocky this time after how he dominated our last little Smash meetup, so Mira and I pretty much put him in his place."

Clover then looked for Alex and Nick, and they still didn't return.

"What happened with you guys?" May asked back.

"Well, we didn't do much since Mat had a feeling the rain was going to come sooner or later," Britney stated.

"Next thing you know, Mat's talking about rainy weather being a nightmare unless you have a swimsuit on," Blaine chuckled.

"Hey, it can be interesting in the right circumstances," May quipped.

"Clover, what are you looking outside at now?" Mat wondered, noticing Clover.

"...I'm not sure if you'd believe me," Clover admitted.

That got everyone's attention, so they all piled up closer to the window so they could see what Clover was seeing. And all six of them couldn't believe their eyes.

Both Nick and Alex were out there, in the rain, having a merry little chase, in their swimwear. And from the looks of things, they were having the time of their lives.

"...is she actually doing what I think she is?" Sam gasped.

"I think she is," Clover quipped.

"Look at that little ham bone," Britney giggled. "She's clearly having fun."

"Hey, Nick can be just as much of a ham as anybody," May chuckled. "Trust me, I can relate."

The six of them just continued to watch Nick and Alex have their fun for a bit, just hoping they wouldn't catch a cold from this.

When Nick and Alex finally came back inside, both of them laughing, they couldn't help but grin at the rest of the group's confused look.

"Is there something on our faces?" Nick wondered.

"Well, probably because we're wondering just what the heck got into you two," Blaine teased.

"I dunno, the idea just came to me," Alex admitted.

"And you know me, I'm just a sucker for anything that could make a humdrum day like this that much more enjoyable," Nick quipped.

"Well, he's definitely got a point there," Mat chuckled.

Thankfully, it looked like the rain was starting to let up, if ever so slowly.

"You wouldn't believe the irony in what you were just doing..." Mat sighed. "What you were doing was what I made a comment about..."

"You mean... running in the rain in... these?" Alex stuttered.

The spies nodded with some quizzical looks on their faces.

"I think everybody's tapping into my thought process," Mat sighed with a bit of a cringe.

"You wanna tell us how that felt?" Sam chuckled.

Nick and Alex looked around to see May and Britney with towels for them.

"You want these?" May teased.

"Like Sam said... tell us how that felt," Britney giggled.

"We will if you give them to us," Nick remarked.

Britney and May took their word and threw them the towels. True to their word, Nick and Alex began their statements.

"At first, I thought it was a little weird that the idea came into my head," Alex explained. "So I wanted to run it by Nick and see what he'd think."

"And hey, I'm willing to try silly things sometimes," Nick quipped. "It's just how I am."

"So, did you two have fun out there?" May chuckled.

"Oh, did we ever," Alex laughed. "Once we got into it, it's like all my worries about the idea just melted away with the rain."

"And to be fair, we did make sure to not stay out there too long, just in case," Nick stated. "I definitely wouldn't want to catch a cold just because we wanted to have some fun."

"Either way, that was something I wouldn't try, to be honest," Mat stated.

"It might be fun, depending on the circumstances," Sam quipped.

"A little late for that now," Clover pointed out. "Rain's just about gone."

"It's fine," Mat replied, Sam respecting his choice regardless.

"And now, here comes the sun," Alex giggled once the sun started to peek through the clouds.

"Right on time," Nick chuckled as he and Alex sat down on the couch together, now that they'd dried off. "That was fun."

"We gotta do it again sometime," Alex quipped.

"No, Souji, I am not rematching you today," May proclaimed, having been called by Souji when the rain had started letting up. "I promised mom that I'd be back home when the rain stopped and... I'm sorry, you did not just call me a chicken, did you?!"

"Is Souji really that salty that he's giving May lip because he lost?" Britney wondered.

"...and Mira just dragged him off," May chuckled. "Gotta say, Souji, you deserved that."

Everyone had a good laugh at that.
